We hired Unabot to help us with the redesign of our selfcare mobile application. As a telecommunications provider we have a mobile application that helps our customers self-manage their plans, pay monthly bills, edit their personal information etc. Our previous application was outdated and in a desperate need of UI and UX refreshment.

Undabot was responsible for the user testing and exploration part, preparation of new UX and UI guidelines and preparation of the final high-fidelity designs for the new mobile application, along with a simple Figma-made prototype, which was also user-tested again to confirm the suggested changes.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

User tests on the new app showed vast improvement in the UX part, as most users greatly improved task completion times. New UI is liked by more than 2/3 of app's users, based on the initial launch survey. New app look & feel is more inline with our corporate design guidelines and with overall mobile app design guidelines for the present/future.

Every single deadline was met during the project, despite the tight initial schedule. Undabot's team was very responsive and open to communication with our other vendors and was also available to us during the redesign implementatin phase, which was done by another partner. Every our demand was analyzed and precisely estimated in advance.

What business challenge were you trying to address with Undabot?

We worked with Undabot on several projects. For the first project, an application for our innovative flagship streaming service for the German market Cliq (www.cliq.de), the Undabot team helped us define the scope for the mobile MVP and then designed and developed the native iOS and Android versions. 

Another project Undabot worked on was the TV app development for the same platform. We also hired Undabot's dedicated teams to work with us on further developing existing apps, as well as assisting us as technical consultants with specific knowledge in design, frontend, backend, project management, system architecture and business analysis.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Next to developing the Cliq mobile and the Cliq TV app, we work with Undabot on multiple projects, including the ones concerning project organisation, work methodologies and other strategical projects. For the cliq.de mobile and TV app, we hired Undabot to define the scope for mobile MVP, which included specifying the functional scope, project priorities and app features for iOS and Android platforms. 

Once the MVP specification was done, Undabot developed both apps and continued working on other features through the agile model. As for the TV app development, Undabot took over the existing TV app project and continued developing previously defined features in Flutter and Tizen technologies, and later in the native TV app technologies. TV app was developed through the agile model as well.

We mainly worked with a dedicated team engagement model where a specific team of specialists, led by Undabot’s project manager, works with us for a limited time, delivering in an iterative model. Undabot provided a project manager, engagement manager, business analyst, iOS, Android and Tizen developers, PHP and frontend developers, mobile and web tech leads, QA specialists and UX/UI designers. Overall, we had more than 30 specialists from Undabot working with us.

We got to know Undabot through a mutual business partner, who recommended Undabot as trustworthy and highly skilled in various technologies. We went through an extensive process of getting to know each other. During this time, the Undabot team showed consistency, patience, and stability. For this reason, we really wanted to work together and we waited until the right kind of project came along– our flagship streaming service cliq.de.

Our cooperation started in late 2021, and we are still working together, constantly expanding our cooperation scope.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We are happy to say we launched our cliq.de mobile and TV app according to our specifications: fully operational, on time and as per the latest industry standards. Based on the market feedback, our existing users are happy with the interface experience, and we are seeing an increase in new users.

How did Undabot perform from a project management standpoint?

We kicked off our project in the iterative model and later switched to SCRUM. Throughout our cooperation, Ivana, the Project Manager from Undabot, was the motor that kept the whole machinery going.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The Undabot team is highly skilled in various technologies and work methodologies, but what I find fascinating about them is their commitment and genuine care for the project, visible on all levels. They also have timely, clear, and straightforward communication, focused on problem-solving.

I’m the market development manager for Austrian Post Group, a national post carrier company. I focus on our company’s subsidiaries and parcel delivery companies, as well as on the Central European data companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Undabot?

We have different API integrations for our customers in the nine different countries where we’re based, which has created a burden for them because they need to integrate with us separately. Thus, we needed development consulting services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Undabot found a way to help us overcome the challenges we had with our subsidiaries. During the discovery phase, they realized that we wouldn’t be able to unify our APIs, so they proposed to build a converter. After looking into their proposal, we requested them to assess our APIs’ architecture and detail how one converter would be able to integrate all of our services within a single interface.

Ultimately, Undabot delivered documentation with their proposed architecture, which became the basis for a tender process that we started afterward to develop the proposed solution. This 60-page document detailed what the solution would look like and what functionalities would have. During this process and as part of their consulting services, Undabot also provided suggestions to our subsidiaries on how to optimize their domestic architecture.

With this converter, we will offer our customers a single connection point to connect with our various APIs, ensuring the communication between them and our system. The solution will be based on Microsoft Azure per our request.

We worked with approximately six people from Undabot, including their CTO, their CEO, their product management team, and two technical consultants. Additionally, their sales department was involved in the project.

Undabot had already worked with us in Croatia for a bigger development project. On that project, they developed custom software for us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The document that Undabot delivered was exactly what we needed in order to launch our tender process and get a solution built to fit our needs. Additionally, working with them was a very positive experience. They delivered very detailed work, and they delivered it on time, exceeding our expectations. The final product was more than we expected; they truly came up with the best solution possible.

How did Undabot perform from a project management standpoint?

Undabot’s project management was perfect; they delivered on budget and on time. We mainly communicated via email, but we also had Teams meetings and managed the project via Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Undabot’s strength is that they’re very customer-oriented, and they have an impressive track record of developing APIs and custom software solutions for important international companies. Whenever we have a software development project, we can trust them to deliver within our timelines and budgets, and they’re always ready to do it — we know what they’re capable of.

24sata or 24hours is part of a greater company called Styria Media Group. It’s based in Austria and mainly operates in Austria, Croatia, and Slovenia. The whole group has more than 3,000 employees.

24hours was founded in 2005, and since 2008 it has become one of the leading Croatian newspapers, news portals, and media production companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Undabot?

We were relaunching our digital platforms and wanted to launch an innovative application on the market. We wanted to provide an app with automatic video display, content feedback, support for various formats, user-generated content, and more features for our readers. Additionally, our in-house team didn’t have any mobile app developers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Undabot for both iOS and Android mobile application development. They’ve done all of the work — architecture consulting, project management, requirements analysis, and pure development. They work in line with our in-house team.

Some key goals for the app are personalization, content, and user interaction. They’ve also implemented a purchase model on the app because we launched digital subscriptions a month ago.

At its peak, we had about 15 people working on the project. The team includes project managers, developers technical leaders, business analysts, and SCRUM masters.

They’re well-known in the Croatian market. Some other companies from our group have worked with them in the past. We got really good recommendations from our colleagues, so we decided to work with them as well.

The project started in January 2019. We started six months earlier, but Undabot was occupied. We launched the app in June 2020, and now we’re finishing phase two.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Key metrics are the loading time and percentage of bugs and glitches, which have been really low, so they’ve done a great job about it.

How did Undabot perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve worked with an extremely agile model. After each sprint, we organize the sprint review and talk about what we could do better, what was great, and which were the main issues. It’s been really pleasant to work with Undabot because they’re so well-organized. We've got the sprint planning, grooming, and review, so everything is done in a very structured manner from their part. We’ve learned something about project management from them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve been very reliable. The main thing we get from them is their stability. Also, they have high experience and technical knowledge. If we have to add more features, they’re flexible enough to transfer more people to the project so we can meet the deadline.

I’ve worked on web development for 15 years, and this project has been one of the good ones. We haven’t had any stress, technical issue, or problem with deadlines — everything in the project has been great.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There have been some things that didn’t meet the deadline, but it’s been 1% of the whole project. We couldn’t have predicted them at the time.

If you want to make the most out of your collaboration with Undabot, really follow them in terms of project management; they’re excellent.

Our current mobile App was developed over 5 years ago and has not been updated a lot since then. Therefore we a Setup a Prototyping Contest to evaluate our mobile Application & generate new ideas for future development.

Our current App was built to fullfill the basic needs of an EV-driver. We wanted to generate new ideas, functionalties & value added-services as a basis for future emobility development.

We established an application process with clear scouting criteria based on a defined Emobility-Use Case. As Undabot referenced the usecase very well in their Pitch, we selected them to take part in the contest.

Undabot developed an impressive click prototyp with innovative ideas, great usability & attractive design. As a result they were chosen as the Contest Winner.

We were impressed by the fact that during few days available the company was the only participant able to present a running click-prototype.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Plots are distributed to the partners for R&D purposes. Undabot helped us in better data visualization and it impacted on a better understanding of data.

Project management was arranged by the Waterfall methodology. In the beginning, together with Undabot, we defined our functional requirements and acceptance criteria. After the development phase, in the last phase, we tested according to acceptance criteria defined at the beginning. The whole process was very well structured by the Project Manager. Client Service Manager was in every aspect of the business-commercial part of the project as well as making sure everything was going smoothly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Undabot did a great job, both in successfully fulfilling all defined requirements, as well as in highly professional project management. The communication in all project phases was very fast and seamless. The delivered solutions fit nicely in our products and we are happy to have Undabot as a support for our digital initiatives.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

This project with Undabot helped us to structure our wishes and document our business demands. It’s goal was to help us in achieving the maximum in the next phases - development.

Without this, it’s not guaranteed that in the development phase we would have complete success because it may not hit exactly our goals. This way we know exactly what we need and it will help to make the next phase of this project more efficient and successful.

The project was divided into 2 phases. In the first phase, the general business requirement was led by a Senior Backend Architect and in the second phase, the lead was taken by a Senior Analyst who completed all functional requirements, including wireframes.

What I found most impressive is the level of their interest, engagement in discussion and discovery quality of a Senior Backend Architect. All of that ensured that the project is well set up from the beginning.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The application provides a variety of options for Wiener clients - easy overview of all important information from the list of active and inactive policies in the last year, review of voluntary health insurance cards, receiving promotional messages, policy expiration notifications, it is possible to contract supplementary health or travel health insurance and book an appointment for general medical examinations.

“My Wiener” will improve user experience and enable customers to view all important information in one place.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Project was organized by a waterfall methodology. PM from Undabot side was a single point of contact and responsible person, working closely with a Undabot Technical Lead and Business Analyst.

Defined and approved specification during the Solution Design phase was an input for design, development and delivery. Change request procedure was used in cases of requirements changes or need for new features.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Strong methodological and structured approach to our project, including a deep and precise creation of a System Requirements Document at the beginning of the project.

Also, I was impressed with the flexibility of Undabot’s team, who has consistently demonstrated the ability to adjust their work according to our internal system changes as well as to our new project requirements.
