Feedback summary:

The product delivered by ubykuo fulfilled all expectations, including those of the third party corporations. Their work resulted in an MVP that allows for added functionalities in the future. The team was highly involved throughout the project and all deadlines were met.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I was a product owner at Dothink, an innovation consultancy firm that applies design thinking methodology in the development of its projects.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire ubykuo?

We hired ubykuo to develop a proprietary software product so our clients could apply their design ideas to their project digitally.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to obtain a minimum viable product (MVP) to optimize costs with the highest possible yield. Then, we wanted to develop the functionalities for users to be able to work with the product.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

They were recommended to us by another supplier. They stood out because of their experience and the proposals they delivered in the beginning of development.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

They completed the base architecture, developed the frontend with Angular and the backend with Java. For the database, they used MongoDB. The team performs automatic tests for automatic deployments. The design work was accomplished through Saas.

What was the team composition?

The team consists of a software architect, two fullstack members, a backend developer and a frontend developer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Thanks to ubykuo, we’ve managed to very stable MVP in less than a year. They met the requirements of some of our large third-party corporations had demanded of us. We’re able to offer a digital product that stands out from our competition because of ubykuo’s help.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We use agile frameworks. Though we started with Kanban, we continue the project using Scrum. The team is fully involved and we meet deadlines. The sprints are every two weeks, which allow us to deliver the product within the timeframe.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They show an interest in understanding the business and objectives to develop the most highly optimized product. Although they aren’t local, their commitment is felt as they continuously give us suggestions for improvement.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

Because some of our clients are involved in banking, ubykuo could improve some of their security aspects to meet those requirements.

Feedback summary:

Their ongoing efforts have produced excellent results already, ensuring the coding improved and the websites are mobile-friendly. The team is responsive and dedicated, meeting a tight deadline efficiently, and working hard to identify the necessary issues to fix.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO of a platform for renting construction machines in a collaborative way, and a platform for emerging music producers to collaborate in a way where their rights and income are 100%.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ubykuo?

I suffered the same problem with both startups. The team that carried out the development wasn’t as good as we needed. They weren’t updating to new technologies, didn’t have a work methodology, and didn’t have investigation tasks. This was something I couldn’t accept and decided to search for a new team.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They worked on the existing sites we had, but also on new functionalities. They made the new platform and it was a very successful experience. They were very involved in defining the coding strategy for the new release. We were focused on the frontend new UX. They participated not only in the coding, but also in the design of the new interface.

We continued using PHP, and they’re also working to migrate in a more modern technology, as part of their strategy. On the backend, we’re working with a national supplier for server services and they're helping us to migrate to something more robust to like Amazon Web Services (AWS).

They helped us with a video production integration. We’re starting our mobile apps development with them also. We’re just launching a second phase development focused on the backend engineering for the sites, and we’re continuing work in new feature development.

What is the team composition?

There’s a project manager, front- and backend developer, and a UX person.

How did you come to work with ubykuo?

I knew the CEO and he told me he had a software factory. I knew he was an expert in design thinking and I really liked that his firm continues to better themselves.

How much have you invested with them?

$15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2018 and the work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The response time for the website is a lot faster. It’s a huge improvement from the last version and we’re working with the same service. The coding is better now and we’re able to access our platform on mobile devices.

How did ubykuo perform from a project management standpoint?

We were in a hurry with the work because we had a deadline and they fulfilled it in time. I feel very comfortable with the follow-up of the project. We have meetings every week, as well as weekly sprints and, in the beginning, bi-weekly sprints. We use Google Hangouts, Slack, and Jira. We have meetings in person once a month.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team added value. Valentin (Technical Lead, ubykuo) gave me solutions and ideas, and the development team also shared ideas. The result is due to their design thinking. I felt really comfortable with them, which is why we decided to go on to the second phase.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We have the team set, which works well. However, if I need to grow faster, it may be difficult for them to give additional resources.  I know that this is, in part, caused by the lack of qualified resources available in the market.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open and let them identify the real problem. I shared our information with them and that gave them the possibility to show me possible solutions. If I had been closed with information, I may not receive the extra value they offer.
