What was the scope of their involvement?
In the end, we are developing a product, which is a smart way to evolve. This product does not exist in the US, I believe, because this is very specific to European heating systems. Imagine that in Europe, you have the water flowing through different rooms in the house. Typically here in Europe, people are using radiators. Then you have a specific part of this radiator controlling the heating level. It's like a thermostat like Nest. In Europe, we are using a kind of distributed thermostat in the different rooms, and that's what we developed here for the last two years. It has internet connectivity; you can access it from your iOS device. ThinkMobiles was specifically in charge of developing the app on iOS.
How did you come to work with ThinkMobiles?
We looked around at off-shoring in India. We decided to near-shore the activities to an eastern European country. Based on the research, we ended up collaborating with ThinkMobiles. Initially, we were just comparing skills locally in Belgium. Ideally, we wanted to work with a local company for proximity reasons. When we received quotes, we realized we couldn't afford them.
With India, we had issues with time difference or cultural communication issues. Then, we looked for alternatives in a region closer to Belgium, so we figured that Ukraine would be a good country because it has a skilled local labor force. That's why we decided to focus on scanning for a company in Ukraine. Just based on an internet search, we short-listed five or six companies in the Ukraine. Based on our interviews and casting, we decided to go with ThinkMobiles.
How much have you invested with ThinkMobiles?
It would be around $20,000 for the iOS development and first change request.
What is the status of this engagement?
The app development at 90%, so it’s almost complete. We will continue to collaborate with them for the landing page or commercial website.
