Pearl Academy: Front-lining creative education with a new-age digital identity
For a design institution with a 25-year legacy, the leadership envisioned to set a standard for creative education by repositioning its identity from being perceived as a fashion institute to a pioneering design college. Think Design partnered to create a world-class digital presence of Pearl Academy to enhance the brand perception and give a unique experience for each user in a seamless way.
Industry: Education
Technology: Web/ CMS
Services: UX Strategy, UI UX Design, Website Development
The challenge: The project was initiated to set a standard for creative education by repositioning Pearl’s identity from being perceived as a fashion institute to a pioneering design college, bringing to fore the brand’s key values into reality, as a disruptive, creative, intellectual and futuristic educational leader.
Our Solution: To align and bring to the fore the brand’s key values into reality, a strong visual creative identity of the academy was worked upon to position the brand as disruptive, creative, intellectual and futuristic.
The direction for the design was taken ahead through a stakeholder workshop to understand the business requirements, perceptual mapping, competition audit followed by gaining user perspectives and understanding persona-based needs. These informed the anatomy of the information architecture and in guiding the design strategy and development.
Some design elements incorporated were a magazine-style approach, offering a candid style of imagery for bringing in impact. While contextual usage and placement of action items made navigation simpler for both regular and persona-driven navigation styles.

Manorama Yearbook: Re-imagining digital for Gold standard knowledge bank
The Manorama Yearbook is an unparalleled treasure trove of information, widely referred by one who are preparing for competitive exams. Giving a more holistic experience to the consumers Think Design envisioned a coming-of-age digital product with a great ease of access.
Industry: Education/ EdTech
Technologies: Web and Mobile Technologies
Services: UX Strategy, UI/UX Design, User Research, Web and Mobile Development
The challenge: In order to aid its customers with a comprehensive knowledge compendium the platform needed to be highly customized to ensure its acceptance and ease of use. Aspirants required their time to be well optimized and also high reliability of information at effective costs. With a shift of consumers to count on digital knowledge sources, Manorama needed a metamorphosis to a highly interactive interface, while also translating its own success to that of its aspiring consumer base.
Our Approach: To create the “stickiness” factor that helps retain existing customers and develop strategies to acquire new customers, we informed our product design from insights gathered through user research. These became a cornerstone to deliver content in evolving ways. To fulfill the objective of creating a cohesive experience and building a common design language, faster and easily understood by the users we opted for a unified design system. Highlighting important content for bookmarking helps users save the content to their notes. Providing a sense of personalization a feature like this proved to be a value add to the platform.

IDBI Federal: Transforming a Legacy product
Introduction: IDBI Federal Life Insurance Co. is a three way joint-venture of IDBI Bank, an Indian development and commercial bank; Federal Bank, one of India’s leading private sector banks and Ageas, a multinational insurance giant based out of Europe.
The Challenge: Life insurance is still sold through agents, but people have also started applying online. Which means that we need to design for two kind of users: the ones who complete the entire journey online as well as those who are still adapting to the digital medium. Designing for different customer maturities is one of the key challenges in the insurance industry today.
The Solution: We decided to innovate our way through, guided by User insights. Analyzing user mindset while selecting a policy, we delivered:
- Complete information about the policy in a transparent manner
- View similar products with clear differentiators to help finalize one
- Ability to check eligibility and get a quick quote, with a possibility to customize.
Building in these capabilities brought us close to insurance productization, with policies presented as products with USPs.
Awards: India's Best Design Project 2018.

Reliance Smart Money: Redefining Investment Category
Investment portals are dime a dozen. While most of them are highly transactional in nature allowing users to manage and transact, a few others provide very little value to online users allowing them only to view their portfolios online while managing the whole process offline. Reliance Smart Money was conceptualized as a groundbreaking, innovative and completely online solution that consumerizes complex investment decisions. The primary challenge for our design consulting team was to break free from existing patterns, re-imagine new and align all stakeholders through design manifestations.
Design Solution: On one hand, Reliance Smart Money's E-commerce like approach makes it extremely easy for users to compare and purchase investment products, while on the other, Robo Assist opens up a conversation interface that would guide its users through their digital journey. Our Design principles: "Simplified, Smarter, Valuable" were manifested throughout the User's Experience.

Linchpin: Enterprise learning, made engaging and fun
Introduction: Linchpin app is a enterprise learning platform that makes the process of learning, engaging and fun. With ability to create, manage, track and administer, Linchpin app is a comprehensive platform for enterprises that want to make learning, a part of their culture.
The Challenge: Most of the enterprises have invested in a host of learning platforms and applications, however, the rate of adoption is very poor. While a few of the employees find them boring, a few other see it as another of several IT initiatives. When we looked at this problem from the point of view of the users, we heard a question very loud and clear: “What is in it that compels me to use it”?
The Solution: In order to gain deeper insight into the problem areas and propose solutions, we gathered for a two-day stakeholder workshop followed by secondary research. This led to insights that had the potential to tap into a few unmet needs:
- Considering the Administrator as a key user; making the workflow of creating course content and managing users, a breeze.
- Gamification and Leaderboard, giving rise to recognition and appreciation of employees’ time spent on learning.
- Delightful interactions, that could lead to enjoyable usage of the application.
- Personalisation.

A' TreasureHunt: An Intelligence Marketplace
Introduction: Analyttica TreasureHunt is a U.S Patented experiential learning system for learning data analytics by solving real life problems. It is a pioneering product in its space; and something to this effect is being attempted for the very first time ever!
Since the platform aims to certify its users for the problems they solve in their courses, there was a clear need to ease user journeys, build in authenticity, demonstrate credibility and make the web based platform very robust.
Design Solution: Data analytics is complex; and for users who come here to learn, it could be overwhelming to see too much information at the very first time. We made progressive revelation thereby making the experience easy on users' minds.
Given that its users pursue this as a part time activity, there are clear indicators of users' journey in a timeline format.
In order to make the marketplace model successful, consolidated efforts went into making a course creator's experience delightful.
Awards: Good Design Award 2018, India's Best Design Project 2018.

Kryptographe: A pioneering Cryptocurrency app
Introduction: KryptoGraphe is the first Crypto Portfolio App that integrates with your crypto exchange accounts and auto-syncs your portfolio, so that you don't have to manually enter all your transaction details. 20 crypto exchanges are integrated with KryptoGraphe already.
The Challenge: Conceptualizing and creating an award winning app from scratch doesn't come easy. When we started, what seemed to be a simple mobile app with API integrations actually ended up becoming visual branding challenge in addition to ui ux design challenge. Firstly, the concept of brand, color and stance needed to be determined appropriately... we wanted to stay away from the approach of making it belong in finance or banking category.
The Solution: We chose unconventional colors and typography for our work and it took a few iterations to convince ourselves and the stakeholders about it. From the ui ux design standpoint, we were looking at key aspects such as navigation, framework, user flow and data visualization. The entire approach was to not only create the first app in category, but also the best one!

Playablo: Learning through Gamification
With the rise in online educational applications, parents and children are constantly in pressure to push their boundaries. While most of the apps provide necessary content through functionally relevant apps, they do not provide the much need fun factor that keeps the students engaged. Most of the current apps also severely fall short of parents’ expectations in terms of tracking their children’s progress using these apps, thereby leaving a huge gap between what they needed and what is.
The Solution
Think Design was instrumental in extracting stakeholder insights and giving shape to those ideas while enriching them. A two day workshop resulted in articulation of the model and positioning of the app; a sweet spot that lies at the intersection of seriousness of curriculum and fun of gamification.

One app: Better UX through Integration
Being one of the largest financial services company in India and with a very strong on-ground personnel to disburse loans and maintain relationships, Bajaj Finserv faced a tricky challenge: Over a period, the company developed and managed 50+ apps that are independent of each other. A front end sales person would normally use 17-20 such apps to carry out his day to day professional tasks. In this context, Think Design was asked to integrate them and pave way for superior user experience.
Through UCD processes, our teams tied each of the offerings/ initiatives to user goals, needs and aspirations to come up with a model that could meaningfully integrate several apps into one and providing additional value on top of it. As a result, a new app was born and it became a platform that integrated 17 related apps that would be commonly used by most of the personnel in their day to day duties.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the senior marketing manager of a life insurance company based in India. I am responsible for digital marketing and corporate website management.
For what projects/services did your company hire Think Design?
We hired Think Design to revamp our entire corporate website.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to move our website from a static, informational site to an e-commerce site since we were introducing new online products and services. We wanted to increase our new product purchases and increase our online renewals.
How did you select this vendor?
We sent out an RFP and invited five design agencies to submit their proposals. We shortlisted two agencies in phase one and then, awarded the project to Think Design based on their previous great design work and experience in our industry.
Describe the project in detail.
Think Design first conducted a discovery phase and a workshop with relevant stakeholders. After understanding our requirements, they presented three design options. We shortlisted one option, and they proceeded to the wireframe stage. We started development and followed an agile development process.
What was the team composition?
We worked with a UI/UX expert for the initial workshop. After that, we worked with one project manager and a team of two UI/UX designers on the rest of the project.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The new website was clean, lively, and fun, in an otherwise dull industry. Our management committee was impressed with the new design, and our team was lauded for our efforts.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Our interactions with them were smooth and easy. Since the agency was based in the same city, they came to our office for face-to-face meetings. We relied on Google Docs and email for our communication.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
They mentioned at the start that design is their strength, and they clearly demonstrated those skills with this project. The team is responsive, flexible, open to new ideas. They always came up with creative solutions.

UX Design for Indian Analytics Training & Solutions Company
"The team doesn’t just deliver products, they create value by holding their performance to high internal standards."

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the senior VP and head of the client solutions group at Analyttica Datalab, a U.S.-based company with a subsidiary in Bangalore, India. We do data analytics, machine learning, and AI for different industry verticals.
What challenge were you trying to address with Think Design?
We needed a partner to consult the technology architecture for a solution idea in the data science and analytics domain space. We also wanted a UI/UX partner who could design the entire frontend.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Think Design created the wireframes after we spent time discussing and whiteboarding the solution, a technology-enabled advanced analytics platform that runs on Java and React. We collaborated on the ideations and their team did revisions based on our feedback. Think Design also designed the UI/UX, for which we have a U.S. patent.
The solution had two B2B and B2C segments. The former was for individuals while the latter served companies to scale employees companywide. The platform has a statistical layer and can handshake with Python, among other tools, to statistically align. We then went to market with the flagship offering–which focused on solutions for repeating problems–as an analytics trading solution.
What is the team composition?
My main point of contact was the senior design head, who worked with four designers behind the scenes.
How did you come to work with Think Design?
We evaluated a few companies that could understand the concept, read our minds, and then execute the design. We then reviewed Think Design’s workflows, solution model, and portfolio. They met our needs and seemed to be flexible in approach. The team supplied a proof of concept and we gave them a three-week delivery timeline for it, which they met. We then proceeded with the engagement.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them between March–September 2016. Since September, they've assisted us on an intermittent basis. Think Design is still our UI/UX partner for new requests.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We were delighted with the final results. The design won an Australian award; both the UX and UI were robust and simple. The solution gained 2,400 international B2C registrations in four months. We had a 17% conversion rate – which is about 14.5% higher than the market rate – and 76% of registrants enrolled in a course. Nearly three months after launch, we signed a client that used the solution to upscale 300 associates. We also partnered with a 2,500-member company that will use our product. In total, users represented 40 different countries and intuitively appreciated the product’s value.
How did Think Design perform from a project management standpoint?
The team worked exceptionally hard, often past normal business hours. Think Design exceeded expectations for hiring a passionate design team and managing resources. We worked in-person three times a week because communication tools were ineffective. Think Design used Excel to track progress and PowerPoint for presentations, whiteboarding, flipping, charting for storyboards.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The team doesn’t just deliver products; they create value by holding their performance to high internal standards. Occasionally, the team redid their own work because they weren’t satisfied with the initial results. That attitude was part of the company culture.
Are there any areas they could improve?
While scheduling is always imperfect, they could have done more planning. Think Design could have created a more collaborative environment to make planning more effective.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I recommend them for companies that need UX design. Prospective clients should research Think Design’s past work and request a proof of concept to build a good relationship between teams. Although in-person communication isn’t always needed, it helps the partnership.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I oversee Operations at an IT Services company focused entirely on assisting healthcare companies in the US.
For what reason(s) did your company hire Think Design?
We were designing a Learning Management System that was better suited towards enterprise needs. We wanted something that could help us internally while still being a useful tool for others.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to come up with an app that would be easy to use, easy to add content to, easy to use off the web and on mobile device. It also had to be easy for the HR team to monitor progress on and to create rules that would help auto assign content at set durations for new entrants to the organisation based on seniority and role.
How did you select this vendor?
They were referred by a friend who was running another organisation.
Describe the project in detail.
We hired ThinkDesign to create a complete turnkey solution. They designed a solution and iterated it several times with mock-ups to keep things simple. Finally, they created the visual design and converted it to HTML for us to develop upon further. And also to create the complementary website for us.
What was the team composition?
There were 3 members from ThinkDesign we were interacting with. Mahesh Marath [Head of Design, ThinkDesign] was leading the project.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We had tremendous success with this effort. Not only was the product visually appealing, it was designed well enough for us to internally drive a change with far less resistance than we have had with other such changes.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We had an easy workflow together. Since we were both based in Bangalore, Mahesh and team would visit us often. We would also get on calls to discuss when needed.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
ThinkDesign took ownership of designing a well thought out product for us. They did not make us dictate to them the whole way. They led from the start and kept things going in the right sequence and at an appropriate pace.
Are there any areas for improvement?
They lack industry subject matter experts. So the effort is intensive up front to get them up to speed on the product, the issues at hand, how the workflow is in the particular dept, etc.
