I am the founder and CEO of a mobile app that helps dental professionals network, find available positions in the area and buy and sell equipment. Additionally, it assists dental offices with staff management.

We hired TechNerds to develop our mobile app and redesign our company website. My goals were to create a very user friendly experience and something that people enjoy using and helps ease their lives and creat work-life balance.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I originally found TechNerds online on Upwork and had a phone conversation with the CEO, Imran. He completely understood my vision and had some ideas that I thought would really be beneficial to my company. I was able to sense his enthusiasm in our first few conversations, and it has remained throughout this project. It took me some time to be able to come up with the funds to actually hire a team and move forward with my idea, and he was very understanding, supportive and patient with me. I ultimately chose this company to develop my app since they really understood my vision.

We had a series of phone conversations with the team at TechNerds and my idea and vision was discussed in great detail. I provided pictures of what I had in mind and educated the team on how the dental industry works and what my idea was to help improve the lives of dental professionals. The team at TechNerds then provided me with samples of what the app would look like, in which I reviewed and provided feedback prior to them building out the app.

Once we had agreed on the style and ideal functionality, they had started the coding and provided me a sample iOS app through TestFlight. I continued to provide feedback on the project and was given the opportunity to share this sample with friends to test it out. The next step was to create the android version of the app, in which we are currently reviewing. Once both the iOS and Android are approved, then we will be launching the app for dental professionals to use in the Southern California region, and expanding when the time is right.

My main point of contact was the CEO, in which he was in charge of overlooking the project through and through. I had two other developers that I spoke with quite regularly, that I was able to provide feedback and keep open communication with throughout the entire process, as well.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have not yet launched our app, however the original project completion date was reached before our original goal. It was very exciting to see my vision come to life and work with a team that was just as excited to be a part of this process as I was.

The team was very easy to communicate with. The biggest struggle was being in different time zones, but they always made it work. We communicated through zoom, email, WhatsApp and Skype throughout the duration of the project and I always received timely responses when I reached out with questions. Additionally, the team at TechNerds showed a great deal of patience with me as the tech world is new territory for me.

I am currently in the dental field, working clinically, so I did need extra assistance to complete some tasks that I know would be rather easy for others to do on their own. The management style was organized, and they made their goals very clear, which helped me to stay on track as well. The first portion of our app was completed before the goal date, and so we were able to move forward with the next portion earlier than expected.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I found it very impressive that the team did their research before building the mobile app. I had given them the names of my competitors and my inspiration apps, and they reviewed them on their own to be sure they understood what I had in mind. They also came up with some ideas on their very own that really helped to make this app even better than I had originally planned. Their expertise in mobile and web development has me away.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I am unable to think of anything at the moment.

I’m the owner and operator of Surfside Home Inspections. We provide home inspection services for people trying to purchase homes and acquire insurance.

What challenge were you trying to address with TechNerds Inc.? 

We needed a more efficient mobile app for performing home and insurance inspections.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our mobile app from scratch, devising the UX/UI, color scheme, and more based on the general requirements I gave them. They came up with several design options, and I chose one to move forward with. 

Our main feature requirement is that the app has to be dynamically interactive. We’re filling out insurance forms provided by the state or insurance companies in the apps, and they had to be dynamically interactive, versus just interactive. Interactive means that users can fill out blank spaces and image fields. Dynamically interactive means you can add more image fields as you fill out the form. We also have electrical panel and air conditioning sections in our reports, and we need to be able to add more sections for additional electrical panels and air conditioning systems. 

Another big feature is that the photographs associated with each section needed to live within that section, rather than at the end of the entire report. Most industry reports have 80 photos bunched together at the end of the form, making it much harder for someone to review it. While you’re in the app, there are intuitive features that allow you to take photos and immediately assign them to the correct report. Users can move back and forth between different reports with ease. 

The app is for Android and iOS at the moment and we’ll be moving into development of a web version as our next phase. 

What is the team composition?

We’re working with around 14 people on this project, including one main point of contact; I also have contact with about 2–3 senior developers and designers. The rest of the team is made up of junior resources.

How did you come to work with TechNerds Inc.? 

I found them online through a freelancer platform. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $25,000–$30,000 so far. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since June 2020. The app should be ready to launch in the next couple of weeks. 

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’re very excited about it. We announced the upcoming launch at a conference about two months ago, and the response was extraordinarily positive. I have people calling me every other day asking when the app is coming because they need it so badly. The industry is filled with software that isn’t efficient at performing insurance inspections. 

The app is going to save about 50%–60% of users’ report writing time by auto-filling multiple reports for the same customer if they’re required.  

How did TechNerds Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re excellent. I’m very happy with their team’s responsiveness and problem-solving. If I come to them with a problem, they come up with a solution. 

We communicate mostly through a CRM system, but we also have Zoom and Skype meetings. TechNerds’ whole team sees the communications using these systems, which allows everyone to stay up to date. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Imran’s (Founder & CEO) attitude toward the project stands out. He measures his success solely based on the success of the product that he produces for the customer. This is a unique attitude. 

I found that the managers of a lot of development teams will devalue my feedback and be dismissive, but Imran is not like that. He and his team accommodate my requests regardless of the time associated with them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

QA is the one area that TechNerds Inc. needs a little improvement in. I send markup and feedback to them, and sometimes those points aren’t implemented. Additionally, it sometimes seems that they haven’t gone through and proofread their work. I’ve spoken directly with Imran about this, and he corrected those issues very quickly. He is extremely responsive to any feedback like this, asking me to come to him immediately with any concerns that I have to ensure that the project stays on track. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be engaged and active in the development if the deliverable is anything more complex than a two-page ad. Set aside time to give in-depth feedback. TechNerds enjoys working with me because I’m hands-on in my involvement in the project.

So I spent a lot of time researching web designers and it came down to two and I selected TechNerds. They were great to work with and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing great web work done a reasonable price. They were also very knowledgeable and easy to get along with....no drama.

My advisor was Aqeeq. He was very attentive to my questions and concerns and always made sure I was happy with the design. There were some bumps here and there along the way like most jobs in business relationships.

To me what makes a company stand out above the rest, is how they handle those mistakes. TechNerds, proved they are a trust worthy company and didn't push me aside once they got my money.

They had great follow through and made sure things were corrected and I was a satisfied customer. That is hard to find these days. To me this is one of the most neglected aspects in business.

Communication Throughout the process the team leader stayed in contact with me, giving me progress updates, which was helpful. I am on the other side of the planet, which presents timing challenges but they were responsive to correspondence.

Understanding I had several developers working on my project, so they were able to collaborate and use their individual skill sets to help complete the project. I have several unique features on my website that are challenging to implement properly but they worked through the issues and were able to successfully make the website work as I envisioned.

Meetings When needed, we had Zoom meetings so that the functionality of the website could be explained to me with a visual walkthrough, step by step. This helped me understand what the user would encounter and what I would encounter on the back end of the website and how to manage it. I look forward to working with the team again on future additions to the website and other projects.
