Squarespace Website Dev & Design for Cultural News Journal
“Sunday Roast is exceptional at fulfilling their clients’ vision while working within their budget.”

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the co-creator of SOURCE paper, a digitally based cultural news journal located in Puget Sound, Washington. We’re basically a small, community-driven, submission-based paper.
What challenge were you trying to address with Sunday Roast?
We had a preexisting website that was not functioning as we wanted it. Although my partner and I are very design-savvy, we don’t have the necessary backend development skills. Thus, we hired Sunday Roast to redesign our digital platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
First, we came to Lee (Founder) with our preexisting WordPress website and told him that we no longer wanted it to be on WordPress. We already knew that Sunday Roast specialized in migrating sites into Squarespace, so that was what we wanted to do. We also provided them with some design references and described exactly how we wanted the website to flow and move.
We worked closely with Sunday Roast throughout the project, sending them large InDesign documents and iterating on the website’s UX design. Ultimately, they fleshed out our ideas into a beautiful and functional website.
Per our request, the key feature that our site has is a very clean and minimal design so that people immediately understand our company once they land on our page. It has a very clean landing page that is easily accessible and easy to navigate. Additionally, its overall design sticks to what we wanted: a clearly established look of a news journal.
We expect to continue working with Sunday Roast for maintenance purposes if needed. However, they’ve taught us how to update it and change some aspects of its design ourselves, which is a great benefit we’ve gotten from working with them.
What is the team composition?
We’ve only worked with Lee.
How did you come to work with Sunday Roast?
A friend and another person who had worked with Sunday Roast for many years recommended us to speak with Lee.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $2,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in February 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Sunday Roast developed our website in a very beautiful and sophisticated way, and what they delivered exceeded our expectations — Lee articulated our vision perfectly. We expected that having a site like this would take more time, but they were able to accomplish it in a very short timeline; everything was up and running by the time we released our second issue.
Although our community is very small, the overall feedback from them has been nothing but praises and total admiration for our new site. In contrast, when we launched our first site, we received a lot of feedback regarding its slow loading times and the bad quality of its imagery. Having this great feedback about our new site has been amazing.
How did Sunday Roast perform from a project management standpoint?
Sunday Roast has performed perfectly, and our partnership has been great. Lee is very professional, and he has made the whole process very easy for us. Given that my partner and I are pretty savvy regarding design work for websites, we seem to speak the same language as them, and we understand each other very well. We communicate via email, Google Hangouts, and Zoom calls which we schedule using their site.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Sunday Roast is exceptional at fulfilling their clients’ vision while working within their budget. Additionally, our communication has been very thorough and much better than what I’ve experienced working with other designers. For example, Lee had to leave town at one point, but he gave let us know with plenty of time in advance so that we could address and accomplish all of the bullet points we needed to check before he left. Then, he finished the tasks he promised to finish immediately after getting back in town.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. I can’t think of anything they could improve on.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be very clear in your communication and let them know your experience regarding web development and design. Regardless of your experience, Sunday Roast will show you, step by step, how to manage your site.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of The Chronicle, a real estate company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Sunday Roast?
We needed help in marketing and selling a real estate project.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started the project by conducting several discovery sessions. Sunday Roast then helped us develop our brand identity — they created our logos, color system, iconography, supporting images, and other marketing collateral. Aside from that, they also created a style guide, which gave us guidance on how to use the materials they developed to style our website and social media channels.
Sunday Roast also developed our website using Squarespace. We focused on how we can utilize the site to showcase the history of our project and properly market our products and services.
After launching the website, Sunday Roast continued to provide technical support and guidance to help us understand how to navigate the site and implement changes. I still work with them from time to time for site updates.
What is the team composition?
I only worked with Lee (Founder), who handled everything from discovery to the project’s implementation and rollout.
How did you come to work with Sunday Roast?
Sunday Roast was recommended to me by another designer that I had worked with in the past.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent somewhere between $5,000–$10,000 on this project.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together on this project from June 2021–September 2021.
How did Sunday Roast perform from a project management standpoint?
Sunday Roast performed really well in terms of project management — they were accessible, easy to work with, and quick to answer questions and provide support.
The whole experience was incredibly simple, efficient, and straightforward. Because they were able to quickly understand what we were trying to accomplish, they were able to provide us with on-point ideas and recommendations instead of overwhelming us with too many options.
We primarily communicated through Google Meet, but we also communicated through email and phone calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Sunday Roast was incredibly professional and efficient throughout the engagement. I’m really impressed with how they quickly understood what our goals were and what we needed to do to accomplish those goals. They demonstrated creativity and a keen understanding of branding and everything involved in the process.
I also appreciated how willing they were to provide technical support and address our questions after the website was launched.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Just follow his lead.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re an online fitness brand that caters to anyone looking to improve their health and fitness through dietary change, nutrition, and fitness.
What challenge were you trying to address with Sunday Roast?
I hired them to rebrand my company into the online market after owning a physical space for 10 years. With COVID and lockdowns, I pivoted to being an online lifestyle brand.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Working from scratch, Sunday Roast created a full brand strategy, web design, and logo. They developed the website to have its UX at the forefront. I run an online membership site for fitness content, so Sunday created a membership area with easy access for new clients coming in, as well as existing members to navigate.
What is the team composition?
I’ve worked with two people: Lee (Founder) handled the website development and graphic design, and another resource managed hands-on marketing and UX.
How did you come to work with Sunday Roast?
I searched for graphic design branding agencies on Clutch. I set up five interviews with agencies and chose Sunday Roast based on our interactions. Yes, they had a great portfolio, but when I shop, I look at the personality match — especially with branding. Lee had to understand who I was and he had to be passionate about the work. We connected on a human level in our interaction.
How much have you invested with them?
I’ve spent around $15,000 CAD (approximately $12,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working together since April 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Traffic in our online store has increased roughly 90% with new design. We’ve also seen a 25% revenue increase since launching the brand a few months ago.
How did Sunday Roast perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re excellent. Communication is smooth, easy, and efficient, happening on Zoom, email, and text.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Sunday Roast looks at the passion behind the project and not just the services required. They want to get to know the people they’re working with because if you connect as people then you’ll produce a better service through understanding their intentions. Other agencies I interviewed didn’t have their personal touch.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, nothing off the top of my head could be improved.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Know yourself, what service you’re trying to provide, and what brand you’re trying to create. It will make Sunday Roast’s job a lot easier.

Please describe your company and your position there.
Toronto Cat Rescue is a nonprofit that rescue over 2,500 cats and kittens in need Toronto and Kitchener Waterloo area. I am the Volunteer Fundraising and Communications Lead
For what projects/services did your company hire Sunday Roast?
Toronto Cat Rescue wanted tp revitalize our main website. Key outcomes from this revitalization would include, increasing income generated from the website, aligning our look and feel with the most recent brand revitalization and refreshing content highlighting the most relevant and visited pages.
We also wanted to explore ways to improve the digital experience for our volunteers. The old website had seen marginal updates over the last few years leaving it feeling stale and out-of-date. We are were looking for a more engaging, and simplified site that drives donations and adoptions.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We issued a RFP to a few vendors that were sourced online and one of them recommended Lee. We selected him for his competitive price, chemistry with the TCR staff and volunteers he would be working with, the timeline of the build and we liked his approach and design examples.
Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.
After a couple of discovery sessions between us and Lee, he provided a wireframe for the site for approval and from there the two design concepts for us to choose from. We provided the initial copy deck which his team reviewed for best SEO and web writing practices and we also provided a selection of images for use on the site.
The site was then build in Square Space with custom CSS as needed. Additionally the team undertook a SEO review and did keyword research, mapping and targeting recommendations as well as H1 tags and description creation. The process from brief to launch was about 3 months.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We primarily worked with Lee directly on the design and creation but I know that he also has a team member who lead the SEO work and another one do the copy editing.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Engagement and visits to the site have increased since our launch in January of 2021. Donations and the ability to create donation landing pages easier have allowed for an easier donor experience and we have seen an increase in donations online as well. Our potential adopters find that the information online is much easier to fund and engagement with, as well as volunteer opportunities.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We had a great experience with Sunday Roast - the entire project went incredibly smoothly. Communication was clear about what deadlines we needed to meet to stick to our timeline.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
What was great about this project was that it was exactly what we needed it to be and there were no surprise along the way. The design presented addressed what we were trying to communicate and any issues that did arise where swiftly and capably dealt with. We felt valued and heard throughout the project and were thrilled with the results.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Not from our perspective

How did you come to work with Sunday Roast?

So far we’ve spent over $10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our ongoing partnership started in December 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The website has definitely helped onboard a lot of clients, stating the platform’s transparency and helpfulness in answering their questions.
How did Sunday Roast perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re great from a project management perspective, as they’re very open to feedback and the revisions we want to implement. It’s beneficial to me that they have no problem going back to the initial scope and starting the process from scratch.
We typically communicate through Zoom and Google Meet.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What sets them apart from their competitors is their age group and design-motivated approach. They prefer creating unique designs that are more niche, but memorable.

What is the team composition?
I only interfaced with Lee, but he had other team members working on the animation and parallax gradient responses.

What challenge were you trying to address with Sunday Roast?
I needed a web development and branding partner.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Sunday Roast has built two of my company websites from the ground up and designed three of my logos. What is the team composition?

Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the Marketing Manager at Resolved Analytics, PLLC.
For what projects/services did your company hire Sunday Roast?
When we first opened our engineering firm, we built our own website on Squarespace. After a few years and some updates to our branding, we needed to revamp our website so that it reflected who we are as a company. We needed to add our new imaging and reformat all pages on our site. We also wanted to continue using Squarespace to host it so that we could be in control of adding or updating things in the future.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We met with 5 different web designers, and we chose Sunday Roast. They seemed to really understand our vision, they were communicative and easy to work with. They were willing to go back and forth to get things exactly how we wanted. They also showed us how to manage it for the future.
Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.
First, we had an exploratory call where we talked about what we were looking for and heard about what Sunday Roast could offer. Next, we were given a time estimate on when work could start along with a proposal. Once we accepted the proposal, we scheduled a kick off meeting and were give a high level timeline overview of the project.
We met again and sent a follow up presentation of some information we wanted to be considered during the design process. Soon after, we received a creative pitch, which included a wireframe of the website and some example websites to look over and provide feedback.
Based on our feedback, we were given a presentation of slides based around a single concept. We provided feedback, and then we were sent a revised concept.
Once that revised concept was approved, Sunday Roast started working on the site build. During the site build, there was some back and forth. At the end of the site build, we were given a training on how to navigate the site and how to modify anything we might want to add in the future (blog posts, additional images, etc).
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We worked exclusively with one designer for the entirety of the project.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Our website is much more representative of who we are, and we see that in terms of who ends up on our site and who contacts us from our site. This website is set up so that it can grow with us, and so far it has done just that.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The workflow between our teams was very effective. The back and forth was simple, seamless, and efficient. We felt that they were able to understand what we wanted, take feedback, and create a final product that was exactly what we were hoping for.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I was impressed with the clarity of their communication. I was also impressed by their willingness to collaborate with our team and to listen to our ideas and help us achieve the final outcome we wanted.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
No. They were excellent. We plan on using them again when the time comes.
