I am the Digital Marketing Manager for Magformers, a magnetic toy company. We manufacture and distribute magnetic construction toys among a few other toy options.
For what projects/services did your company hire Social Motion Films?
We hired Social Motion Films to help us a create a series of 3 films for our company - we've had trouble getting decent and engaging videos in the past and we liked the style of SMF, so we brought them on to create 3 different videos for toy lines of ours.
What were your goals for this project?
Our goals were to have 3 videos created for 3 different toy lines that would be exciting and engaging to watch and that would help make the customer interested in checking out our company and product.
How did you select this vendor?
The reached out to me just prior to Toy Fair 2019 - I met with them and really liked their style of videos that they created, the stop-motion, animation and hand drawn elements to help bring a product to life. I showed to the rest of my team and we loved the style.
Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.
Video #1 was a video for our basic sets - the original sets we were known for. We wanted a video to help show what magformers can do and we wanted to incorporate the hand-drawn elements. An aspect we felt helped bring the toy to life from a child's imagination. Video #2 was a video for another brand we sell - Clicformers. We have new puppy sets this year and we wanted o show the puppy builds come to life. Video #3 was a video to showcase our new Mini-Figure sets for 2019. These are our first sets to include figures and we wanted to showcase the 4 figure-sets you can get.
What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?
We checked in by email each week and they would send us any completed video clips or stills to review. We would email back our video as adjustments were made each week.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We're currently prepping for our mini-figure campaign to start next week and run for 4 weeks, which will include our mini-figure video. The Basic video is currently being run with a YouTube campaign and has over 2 million views.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The workflow between myself and our assigned project manager was fairly easy and quick on the turnaround.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
The quality of video and then the speed at which they could update and get things done once the project got rolling.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Now that we've worked with them and we've been able to create our online campaign using one of their videos, in the future we may have videos created in a different structure so we have less cutting to do afterwards for social media. But that's only known in hindsight. The overall process and end-product we received were excellent.
The videos have received millions of views on YouTube and have significantly increased the company's reach. Social Motions Films' work was very high-quality and their team worked quickly to update and fine-tune the production process. The workflow was seamless and highly effective.
