In 2015, we connected with Whole New Home, a marketplace for home professionals. Despite boasting over 20,000 active listings, they were struggling to monetize on subscriptions and discussed with us an idea to pivot the company to focus on interior designers. What they needed was a captivating brand and product direction.
We worked together to land a new company name — Kabuni — and proceeded to craft the verbal identity of a future brand. Using our positioning framework, we identified the strongest fit between the needs of the audience and Kabuni’s solutions. We zeroed in on a positioning statement, which expanded into vision & mission, brand story, voice and a short pitch-like description of the company:
Kabuni is a community-driven marketplace for home designers, design lovers, and makers, where every purchase makes an impact.
In the end, we had crafted a powerful brand that shook the interior design industry with its strong visual & verbal identity, designed web and mobile apps, set the communication strategy and assisted with the opening of the first Kabuni Design Studio. Although our work for Kabuni is now complete, our partnership remains ongoing.

For decades, wildfires have been fought using a combination of extensive human resources and helicopters. Robert Atwood and Richard Sullivan saw that drones had the potential to ease the reliance on both. So they designed an infrared scanning technology to swiftly and accurately process gigabytes of raw footage filmed by drones. They also envisioned and prototyped a crowdsourced platform where anyone can assist in detecting nascent wildfires, helping to snuff them out before the onset of irreversible damage. The only thing left was to let the world know about their breakthrough.
Any successful brand starts with the why. The vision, the purpose, the reason to be. Going through our process we arrive at the verbal identity, where the company gets a solid foundation to align team members around its core competency and later project this message to public audiences. After discovery and multiple sessions with the Hummingbird Drones’ team we distilled their vision:
“Wildfires contained by the fusion of cutting-edge software and hardware.”
Upon receiving the verbal and visual identity, Hummingbird Drones are ready for rapid growth, but this time with the confidence in their direction and equipped with the right tools to get them there.
Alterna is a premium hair care brand in the USA which uses no harsh ingredients or additives. They have seen considerable success since 1997, and thanks to the beauty of ready-to-go e-commerce templates like Shopify, they were able to sell their products online fairly efficiently.
However, over the years they had built strong relationships with professional hair stylists who chose to use Alterna products for their salons; and Alterna’s e-commerce store was starting to inadvertently provide to be competition.
Strategically, it made sense for Alterna to double-down on the stylist market who acted as powerful distributors and ambassadors for their products. Unfortunately, their existing Shopify site made it difficult to do anything but do what it does best - continue to sell online. That’s when Alterna approached Skyrocket to help - how could they pivot their brand online to appeal to consumers without the e-commerce component?
Speed was important to making the pivot and we needed to get something up and running - fast. Our design team put their heads together and came up with a phased plan which would see the most important pages built first, using the most common design components (or “design blocks”).
Within 6 weeks, we were able to launch a site which looked finished but was only 40% complete in reality. That might sound like a shortcut, but it’s actually practicing agile product development the way it’s supposed to - launch, learn, iterate, and optimize. The users don’t know the site is 40% finished, only we do.
Based in Singapore, budding blockchain client Bluzelle approached us for what we do best: a re-brand combined with a web launch, a few months shy of their Initial Coin Offering (ICO) annoucement.
We hit the ground running by extracting everything we could from the founders and team at Bluzelle. Naturally, we supported and cross-referenced this with secondary research, which built a strong foundation of knowledge to form a plan. The ICO date was looming, and we needed to balance tactics with strategy to keep the ball rolling. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we took the lay of the land by reverse-engineering organic marketing campaigns which had already seen success.
Following agile practices, the refreshed brand and new site were up and running within 6 months - but that didn’t mean we hit the brake pedal while we worked on them. Bluzelle needed to remain highly active in the blockchain community, engaging their audience online and offline to continue the positive conversations surrounding their ICO. Within weeks, Bluzelle were attending conferences and shows with updated banners, brochures, messaging and presentations which reflected evolved brand identities as we worked on them.
It all came together the day of the ICO annoucement, with Bluzelle having secured $19.5 million to develop their decentralized database technology.

Since 2006, YYoga has been supporting people’s commitment to whole health and can be credited for helping make yoga in Canada mainstream. Our relationship began when they realized their rapid growth required them to streamline architecture and design for their web experience.
When it comes to building websites, there are two general approaches. The first is to use a ready-to-go template, which allows anyone - regardless of skill level - to edit imagery, colours and copy to suit their business. Think Squarespace or Wix. The downside? They have very limited functionality, and they look the same as every other website out there.
On the other end of the spectrum is a fully customized website. These are built bespoke to meet the unique goals of a business, and allow the brand to shine through completely custom design. The downside here is upfront cost and time, plus the development skills required to make changes later down the line.
However, there is a third option - a custom website built with reusable design ‘components’ which can then be assembled by anyone like lego to create new content without any development skills. Our preferred method for this case.
The result was an extremely powerful landing page builder which allowed Yyoga to create their own experiences without breaking the integrity of the overall design. This rapid deployment lets Yyoga test and learn at break-neck speed, then react to the market almost instantly.
It may not sound like it, but that’s magic in the world of marketing.

Skyrocket Digital successfully transformed the static website into a dynamic digital space. In addition to modernizing the platform, their stunning web design perfectly captured the brand’s true essence. Their team worked diligently to produce a custom solution for the unique business goals.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
At the time of the project, I was working for a family advisory practice.
What challenge were you trying to address with Skyrocket Digital?
Our outdated website was a poor reflection of our business, so we wanted to find a talented web designer who could revamp the platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Skyrocket Digital was commissioned to create a new web design and integrate their work on our existing platform. We started with a thorough discovery stage, where we explored innovative concepts and discussed our preferences. After refreshing the website, their team updated our marketing collateral with the new design.
What is the team composition?
They assigned an account manager to oversee our project, but we also interacted with their owner and CEO. We also had access to one of their designers if we had questions about the project.
How did you come to work with Skyrocket Digital?
We were introduced to their team at a creative awards ceremony where one of their designers won a prestigious award.
How much have you invested with them?
The project cost us more than $350,000 to complete.
What is the status of this engagement?
They started working on the website in November 2014 and wrapped up in September 2018. Although the platform was nearly finished in 2016, it took a while for our owner to sign off on their work.

Are there any areas they could improve?
Although our owner wanted to use stock photos on the website, using company photos would have added authenticity to the platform.
