Bamboo Rewards is a loyalty rewards program. Simpalm worked with Bamboo LLC to create an application used by clients and customers. The project included development of a web app and two ipad apps. The web app is used by store owners for creating promotions to send to loyal customers. The ipad apps are found at gaming cafes and other gaming locations. One ipad app is for customers to check in and see their available rewards. The other ipad app is for location attendants and employees to manage customer profiles. The apps work together to create a seamless process and great experience for business owners to send promotions and for customers to enjoy playing.

Based on 2020 AMA/CPT Code, the user can search by procedure category or E&M with anatomical/procedural descriptions; CPT codes and their descriptions; Medicare National Average Rates including physician fee schedules for facility and non-facility, hospital outpatient, and total RVUs; and coding tips and special instructions to aid the physician/practice in obtaining accurate and timely payments.

Based on CRLMC’s award-winning InterFaith Calendar, the app brings together the dates and descriptions of observances for 17 religious communities and includes descriptions of each religious tradition prepared by believers themselves. InterFaithCal is available at no cost for both Android and iOS. The mobile apps are managed by a backend system with an admin panel where calendar events and descriptions can be entered.

PayDent Web Project
Paydent is a service that eases the way uninsured patients interact with dental care professionals. The platform brings Dentist and Patient together to lower the dental cost and deliver better dental care. The user interface for the patients and dental professionals run on web browsers which allows patients to establish an account with Paydent. The patient makes regular deposits to the account via credit card payments or ACH. Once the balance reaches a sufficient level, the application allows the patient to use the funds in the account for dental care with any participating dental professionals shown in the application.
Paydent has the following features:
- Application allows users to set up a Paydent account.
- Application allows patients to transfer money into their account via credit card or ACH.
- Dental professionals can search their patients transactions by date.
- Patients & Dental professionals can check their patient’s account balance and treatment history through their account.
- Application displays latest price list of procedures from the American Dental Association; this list is searchable.
- Application uses the patient’s location and generates a map showing all participating care providers within a given radius.

Satellite Communication App
Simpalm partnered with a Satellite Communication Company based in Northern Virginia to develop a mobile app user interface for their handheld sat comms device. The app connects with the sat comms device via Bluetooth. The user can control the sat comms device by sending commands triggered from the app. With this functionality users can send and retrieve information. An app was developed for both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.

Rividend Web Project
Rividend is a program that makes traveling an attainable goal for employees. Rividend works as a travel savings platform where employers match the funds employees contribute to their travel savings account. With this matching program, employees can save funds for their travel plans faster. Employers use the platform to keep track of the total funds saved and the total amount matched. Employees can monitor their travel savings account and schedule their travel plans on the same platform.

We have developed the Smart Lights app for Smartbotics Inc, which is based in California. Smart Lights app work on Bluetooth Low Energy technology to manage Robosmart wireless LED bulbs. The apps were one of the first apps to be launched in the market to automatically connect to LED bulbs over Bluetooth.
How to connect Smart Light App with RoboSmart Bulbs
- App will ask user to turn on Bluetooth of their mobile device.

I am the CEO/CTO of PayDent based in Chicago. PayDent is an alternative to dental insurance. It eliminates all of the hassles of dental insurance for docents and their patients. If you think of Uber as passengers looking for drivers with cars, you can think of PayDent as patients looking for dentists with chairs. We needed a HIPAA-compliant, financially secure app that would collect funds from patients, and make ACH payments to dentists.

We interviewed several firms. Simpalm was among the most professional, capable, and affordable. Piyush Jain, the owner, is one of the smartest people I have come across. And I have worked in computer and semiconductor engineering for decades.

First we developed the flow of data and wireframes for the various menus and functions. Simpalm brought the technical and artistic talent required to make the app functional and secure. From a technical perspective, PayDent is a mobile web app that interfaces to an SQL database, which resides on an AWS server. The database is captured in a HIPAA frame so that all of the patient data is protected. The app then calls Stripe to collect money from patients or to make payments to dentists. It captures all of the treatment history and transaction history and maintains it in the protected database. Oracle NetSuite is used to capture all of the transactions and generate our financial statements.

A project manager is assigned to work as our primary contact. We have had some interaction directly with development resources. Piyush, the owner is always available to lend his experience and intelligence as needed.

They were able to effectively walk a person without experience through the development process. I came to them without knowing how to implement an app. Their team provided me with directions that enabled them to perform their work. Instead of expecting me to know everything, they walked me through the whole development process.

They could improve their communication with the developer. Many times, I struggled to find the end product to be what I wanted.
For example, I expected the developer to build a certain feature that was central to my company. I talked about this feature with the CEO during our initial conversation. It wasn’t until the end that I realized the tech lead told the developer to build a different feature. I was shocked because the feature I expected was always on the table.

Be clear on your expectations for their team. In the contract, spell out all of the details for your product to avoid any unexcepted fees.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of ShipBoxx. We’re a non-asset third-party logistics company that provides a modern shipping service.
What challenge were you trying to address with Simpalm?
We needed a development firm to build out our mobile platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
By evaluating the typical shipping process for the average person, I found that driving to the post office, standing in line, and packaging your own item can take 25 minutes to an hour. We wanted to expedite that process by enabling users to ship anything they wanted with just a few taps on our mobile app. The project had to be built from scratch, so I articulated my vision to Simpalm’s project manager.
They were extremely collaborative during the scoping process. We went over the app’s aesthetics and color scheme. Then, we went in-depth on laying out the different functionalities of the app while maintaining usability. They walked me through deciding what actions should occur when specifics buttons are pressed. With that information, they designed the wireframes and started building the platform app from there.
They developed the app for iOS and we launched on the App Store. They continually provide updates and feature improvements. We also plan on developing an Android version with Simpalm in the future. I’m not an app developer, so I can’t speak to the specific technologies they used to the build everything.
What is the team composition?
A four- to six-person development team worked on the app including the project manager.
How did you come to work with Simpalm?
I searched for cost-effective development firms on Upwork because we’re a lean startup. I interviewed three other companies before finding Simpalm. I reached out to their CEO and the relationship grew from there.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2016 and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Customer feedback indicates the app features a clean design and runs without crashes. This speaks to the quality of Simpalm’s work with the UI/UX. We only recently launched the app, so we’re still trying to grow our customer base and don’t have access to a large sample size of analytics. Overall, it’s been a great partnership and I’m grateful I found them.
How did Simpalm perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project manager is available to me whenever I need. Simpalm’s CEO is extremely busy but makes himself available when necessary. We communicate with their team through Basecamp, email, phone calls, and text. We plan to integrate Simpalm with our Microsoft Visual Studio system to organize change requests and prioritize user feedback.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Communication is vital when developing a mobile app and luckily, accessibility is one of their greatest qualities. Furthermore, they don’t pass their mistakes onto the customer. For example, they misquoted the number of hours necessary to complete a certain task but didn’t ask me to pay for the additional time. They value long-term relationships and I find their pricing to be low compared to industry standards. They’re trying to build a brand and help businesses excel.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They didn’t present a lot of development options like multiple API’s or a website that would facilitate scalable growth. They focused primarily on meeting my short-term needs. Working to future-proof customers would better foster long-term relationships. I’ve shared this feedback with them.
