This mobile application is designed for inspectors and car estimators. Car owner, after filling out an application upon the web site takes the car to the inspector to get it estimated. Vintera TV

This application is the part of international multiscreen ViNTERA.TV platform. ViNTERA.TV app provides with hundreds of free TV channels from Internet and IPTV networks (Internet TV and Providers TV sections).  Online TV channels in SD, HD and 3D formats. Subscribers of more than 6000 providers and IPTV operators worldwide have access to TV channels of their local networks via ViNTERA.TV service. 

Globaliky

The following application is designed for keeping personal and public accounts. This solution allows transaction accounting and cash-flow management (debit, credit, margin). Management of accounting activities is subdivided into several groups: current and upcoming tasks, events, meetings and personal reminders. The function of budget setting is implemented through creation of non-recurrent and interval debit-credit values, as well as the function of target values management.

The system is for collecting reviews on companies from different business fields: education, medicine, industry, trade, transport. The users have an opportunity to sign in, choose a category, create a topic and leave feedback with attached photo, audio or video files, rate, leave comments and exchange messages. 

Tictate

The application informs users about the upcoming events: concerts, parties that the user can be potentially interested in. The application also gives information on the best ticket prices and helps save both time and money.

Life Button

Mobile application intended for people suffering diabetes and allergy. With a press of a single button, the following application sends urgent information on a person to 911, individual physician or relatives of the person. Geo-locating function, speech-to-text function, and the screen lock emergency button function were implemented to allow the application collecting all the necessary information, and which can be easily accessed in case of anaphylactic shock. A user adjusts his personal application and text messaging settings just once and as soon as the adjustment is done, he is able to call 911 and send a text message using just one button.

Yillio

A location-based application designed to receive information about discounts and promotional events offered by cafes, shops, hotels and gas stations. The application allows users issuing discount coupons and vouchers, and at the same time choosing places and tracking routes to reach them

Retail

The app is for Chelny-bread  retail chain. It provides users with the latest information on special offers and news of the shop. It also allows to manage bonuses (balance and history), look through purchase history, create shopping lists, find Chelny-bread shops in unknown areas and leave feedback on products and services.

The application is designed for smartphone and tablet users. It allows users to:

It was challenging to find good quality resources in our hometown, and we had more work than we could handle ourselves. We were looking for additional development resources, which is where SimbirSoft came into the picture.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started our collaboration with SimbirSoft doing C++ development for 2 additional modules that we had to create for a client product. SimbirSoft has also helped us develop other mainstream applications, web products, and so on. We've used many different resources from SimbirSoft, including their testing department.

We work on a time-and-materials basis and receive monthly bills for the number of hours spent. We do require some kind of estimations in advance, but many of our products function within a changing environment. If a product is developed over the course of a year, its requirements may change significantly, so we can't allow ourselves to be limited to an initial scope. If the change needs to be made, I have to make it immediately, not after 3 months of requirements reviews.

How did you come to work with SimbirSoft?

We reviewed 3-4 companies in Russia which would be able to provide us with the right resources. We interviewed SimbirSoft via Skype and also visited their head offices in Ulyanovsk Oblast. The interview process was very close to what we would have done for hiring a person. We asked SimbirSoft to put us in touch with an actual representative who would be working for us, and we talked to him as if he would be taken on as a part of our team and gave him the same tasks.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Over the course of 6 years, SimbirSoft has done a lot of work for us. The best testament to the quality of work that they're doing is that we're still working with them after all this time. There were some issues over the course of these 6 years, but we've continued to work with SimbirSoft because we could always call their CEO or any of the managers and tell them that there's something we'd like changed. Any issues we've had were always resolved.

How did SimbirSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, we were managing projects completely on our side, and SimbirSoft only handled development. They did have a representative in charge of communication, but he was more of a tech lead rather than a pure project manager. On some cases, this worked well for us, but when we came to bigger projects lasting for up to a year and a half, things started to become too complicated. On most projects, we will handle most of the development work and SimbirSoft will only assist us on a specific module, but in a particular instance, all the work was done on SimbirSoft's side. It was a bit challenging for us to manage it without having someone involved on our side. This convinced us to ask for a pure product manager on SimbirSoft's side, who would be responsible for doing what we needed within areas which had lesser-detailed requirements. The approached worked pretty well.

Some development methodologies require a rational unified process, with true requirements fully outlined. We employ more Agile and scrum methods, with SimbirSoft doing the development and getting immediate feedback and change requests from us.

What did you find most impressive about SimbirSoft?

For me, the best quality that a company can have is being ready to adapt to the needs of a particular customer, like ourselves. Our business is software development and we have very specific work procedures, unlike those of other developers. SimbirSoft had a different approach than ours, but they were able to accommodate the necessary changes in order to have a successful relationship.

Are there any areas SimbirSoft could improve?

We had a few issues when some employees from SimbirSoft left the company and there was a transfer period towards new management, but our company has had the same problem, and it can be a hard process for anyone to take care of. When a tech manager leaves a group, the new person will need time to adapt. For most customers, this won't be a significant issue. Most people order specific products and simply have them developed, instead of having a 5-6-year collaboration.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with SimbirSoft?

I would advise clients to be open and honest from the very beginning and not wait until it's too late to discuss issues, particular needs, or requirements. If the customer does this, they will have a good relationship with SimbirSoft.

SimbirSoft provided additional resources for our team, including Java and SQL programmers. Upland Software's QA team performed much of our manual testing, although they also worked with Selenium at one point.

The size of our team fluctuated, depending on what we needed. We've used anywhere between 8-12 people from SimbirSoft at any given time.

We had a bidding and interview process, but I wasn't a part of the team assigned to that task. Our company contacted responders from various parts of the world, requesting coding samples.

SimbirSoft delivered great quality on time, and did what they promised to do. I wish that we were still using them. SimbirSoft improved efficiency, and allowed us to do more business. They provided quality resources who knew what they were doing.

SimbirSoft had a project manager working with us. He was fantastic. Depending on the type of item which needed to be discussed, we had daily standup calls with all of our developers, QA people, and engineers. If anything needed to be talked about in-depth, we reached out to our project manager.

We used our own project management software, PowerSteering, for the collaboration. SimbirSoft adopted it for in-house use as well. After we became acquired by our parent company, we started using Jira, as it was the corporate-wide platform.

What did you find most impressive about SimbirSoft?

SimbirSoft was very diligent and efficient. Language was the biggest barrier for them, but compared to other Russian teams we've used, SimbirSoft was better, and improved every day. We were able to speak to them on the phone, and give the team a chance to practice their English. We've worked together with SimbirSoft, and we didn't put an emphasis on putting one team against the other. Some resources may have been better or faster than others, but we always had great respect for SimbirSoft, and treated them as equals.

Are there any areas SimbirSoft could improve?

English skills can always be improved, but our project manager addressed this, translating messages if necessary.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with SimbirSoft?

I'd advise any prospecting client to hire SimbirSoft.

We were very worried about the usability aspect because the tablet was designed for children. However, SimbirSoft performed on the highest level. With the help of several focus groups, the design was very well done; the app was logically built and usable for children. The project manager responded very quickly to any needed changes and requests. SimbirSoft was able to show us the first results after only a couple of weeks of work. The schedule and budget were perfectly followed in spite of the changes and new tasks we asked of them. We were more than satisfied with our collaboration with SimbirSoft.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our primary goal was to develop a mobile app for our platform and enter the mobile POS-terminal market as quickly as possible. We aimed to incorporate a brand-new function into our software: integration with the state system of alcohol turnover control. That was an emerging market, and it was important to enter it from the very beginning.

SimbirSoft was responsible for every stage of the software development process: requirements management, development, quality assurance, and project management. They not only developed the mobile application itself, but also the cloud service, web, and desktop applications.

Load testing was a separate part of their work. By the end of the project, we not only had insight about our solution’s high-load behavior, but also obtained recommendations for its improvement.

Looking back, SimbirSoft pretty much helped us to achieve all these goals.

We selected SimbirSoft from a variety of proposals from a number of IT companies. The basic requirement was experience in working with different technologies and platforms, including cloud-based solutions and web, mobile, and desktop applications. Experience in load testing and high-load behavior analysis was another requirement. Finally, estimated project term and budget were key factors. SimbirSoft met all of our requirements perfectly.

From a financial point of view, this was a fairly modest project.

We started the project in April 2015 and finished up February 18th, 2016, so it was about one year of work total.

We began getting results very soon after our cooperation started. Regular intermediate updates and demonstrations during the whole project helped us to control the resulting product very precisely. As a result, the project was finished on time. The total project cost was even less than we expected. However, the total amount of work done was much better than planned initially. So it was twice perfect. Our users are very happy with the product, which I think, is the best indicator of quality.

Over the last three years we have significantly reorganized our business, switching from print to electronic and online media. The share of online media is currently about 25% of our total revenue, which is one of the best figures in Russia. Since we have a vast network of dealers, we needed to develop a simple and effective system of websites for all of them. What was the scope of their involvement?

We have been working with SimbirSoft for more than five years. During those years of cooperation, we have created dozens of web applications. We are the largest dictation service in the UK healthcare system and the only company in the UK that is able to provide a fully managed transcription service. Dictate IT is currently working with 27 hospital trusts and healthcare organizations across the UK and Ireland. All our clients have different demands for digital dictation, voice recognition, and outsourced transcription services, so we aim to adjust digital dictation and transcription packages to suit those different needs. I am the founder and Chief Executive Officer.

What challenge were you trying to address with SimbirSoft?

The initial challenge was to improve integration with an electronic clinical correspondence service called DOCman. The team successfully performed this task, which was the start of our collaboration.

Our goal in working with SimbirSoft was to grow our customer base through the development of unique and high value application features, as well as stabilizing the existing product. We were seeking partners who could provide a high level of technical support and development expertise. The major goals were to increase the number of users, to improve product performance, to design a new web-based product, and to develop an iOS product for iPad distribution. These goals were successfully achieved by the SimbirSoft team.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The engagement commenced in the summer of 2013 on a trial basis to allow the SimbirSoft team to demonstrate their technical expertise. SimbirSoft is a professional R&D [research and development] center that provides high quality product solutions, well-built processes of quality assessment, architectural concepts, data base improvements, and iOS apps updates. So for us, SimbirSoft is a fully dedicated development center that meets our business needs and develops a software product from the preliminary research to implementation and support. They have delivered over 100 project versions and made thousands of improvements and upgrades.

How did you come to work with SimbirSoft?

We were looking for a software development partner to help in developing Dictate IT products. Having analyzed the software development market, we found that SimbirSoft possessed the relevant expertise, has highly qualified product staff, and an effective software development process. That was the reason we chose SimbirSoft for the project.

How much have you invested with SimbirSoft?

We are spending about $50,000 per month at current resourcing levels working with SimbirSoft.

The project is still in progress.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work or the impact of the engagement?

SimbirSoft has delivered over 20 new modules, which allowed us to attract new clients. Our product performance has increased by 25 times, enabling the applications to process four times the volumes as in the past.

How did SimbirSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

SimbirSoft always tends to optimize and automate the process of product development and delivery, which saves us about 10% of our product development budget.

What did you find most impressive about SimbirSoft?

The SimbirSoft team will constantly go the extra mile to support Dictate’s high demands. Their technical and research skills are very good across the board. They always provide creative and innovative approaches to resolving problems. They are flexible, able to adapt in order to support Dictate’s changing requirements, and their use of agile methodologies provides intermediate results for the software under development.

Are there any areas SimbirSoft could improve?

Communication is the key to successfully working with remote development teams, so in hindsight, bringing the teams together at the beginning of the project to build working relationships and processes would have been beneficial.

What challenge were you trying to address with SimbirSoft?

Our challenge was our lack of development skills. We are very good at design, but all our efforts to build our own full stack production team from the ground up were not successful. As the result, our end products were not always as good as we wanted them to be, and budgets and deadlines were rarely met. Naturally, that hurt our business greatly.

So we were looking for a company that would cover all our possible development and project management needs. Moreover, that company would have to cover a wide range of technologies so that we wouldn’t be forced to be on the constant lookout for teams and freelancers with the technologies we needed for a particular project.

Reliability and trust were our major priorities: we had to be sure that the estimates were realistic and that the work was done as scheduled. The idea was to team up our client with the development team and never have to worry about the deliverables. In the outsource world, all that is extremely and fantastically hard to come by.

They actually reached out to us to offer their services. With their staff of over two hundred developers and their excellent portfolio, SimbirSoft met our criteria very nicely.

Yet the thing that really sold us on them was the promise of meeting deadlines and budgets in 80% of all cases, and if exceeded, to go over by no more than 20%. If you work in IT, you know this would be a rare find. Of course, we had doubts but we decided to start off with a small project. The test drive was very satisfactory, so we started pushing more work their way.

We continue to work with SimbirSoft on various projects, usually four or five simultaneously.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work or the impact of the engagement?

We made sure that SimbirSoft knew what we expected of them from the get-go—teaming them up with our clients and never having to worry about the deliverables. I have to say that they have been very diligent at that. So far we have almost always stayed within budget and deadlines. Also, half of the clients we have worked with in this way have come back for more work. Those are probably the most important metrics for us. Of course, there were bumps on the road and no one is perfect, but overall we are very pleased with the results and the process.

What did you find most impressive about SimbirSoft?

A true partnership is demonstrated not when things go smoothly but when they are at their worst. In those situations you have to show compassion, empathy, and a readiness to look for solutions. We had a few critical cases that were bound to happen in any big IT project, and things were handled very smoothly by SimbirSoft. Because of this, we see them not only as a very skilled and experienced tech team but also as a trusted partner.

Are there any areas SimbirSoft could improve?

Yes. Different teams within SimbirSoft have slightly different practices and methodologies, but SimbirSoft is working on standardizing that for us. There were also some minor issues related to the ever expanding size of the company, and SimbirSoft is handling those quite professionally.

It is a charitable program where every payment is evenly spread among all participating funds like WWF, RusFond, Downside Up and etc. It means that you can help children with Down's Syndrome, homeless folks, animals and others in need at once! The new website is based on Magnolia CMS core, the free version. Although this CMS was new for SimbirSoft team, they accomplished the website successfully.

What was the scope of their involvement?

SimbirSoft was responsible for the whole development process, except design. The website they developed had a full-featured administration panel, which was customized according to our needs. The main features we expected and received were a visual template editor with drag and drop technology and a news page with updates about funds.

We were searching for an outsourced development company for the {Vsem website, and SimbirSoft offered their service at that time. The selection criteria were a cost estimation, experience, portfolio, a stack of technologies, flexibility, and transparency in development methodologies.

Project management was organized perfectly for us and according to our request. We had a development process of one-week sprints.
