A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder and president of Trinidad Construction, an industrial general contractor that serves corporate clients throughout the Midwest.
What challenge were you trying to address with Rolff Sign Co.?
We wanted to work on our branding. Our team didn’t want to change our logo, but we wanted some branding assets to celebrate our Hispanic heritage. We needed creative designs that we could use on giveaways and on our company vehicles to get people’s attention. On top of that, the designs should be unique and classy — not cheesy. As a result, we reached out to Justin (Owner) to come up with such designs.
What was the scope of their involvement?
My brother had a separate business, and the two of us had a painting that we wanted to use as the basis of the designs that Rolff created. Specifically, we wanted the designs to be reflective of the piping and sheet metal industry for my brother. Meanwhile, the designs for me should represent carpentry. We told all of these to Rolff, and they got back to us with various design iterations.
From there, the designs evolved as we told them what we wanted to change and what we liked. In the end, we received two separate sets of designs. My brother had a different set of designs from me, but the designs also showed connections between our business.
Moreover, Rolff created designs for our hats, shirts, and sweatshirts, which we sent to people all over the country. When sending these materials to people, we’d ask them to do us a favor by posting or tagging us online with the shirts and hats. That was the purpose of this part of the project.
What is the team composition?
I mainly worked with Justin and another person in his shop.
How did you come to work with Rolff Sign Co.?
My brother had previously worked with Rolff before. I wanted somebody that had the creativity and understanding of the artistic side of things. When we were checking out Rolff’s website, we felt that they’d be able to build upon our idea and turn it into something classy but attention-getting.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent between $10,000–$15,000. The design for each vehicle cost around $1,400.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project was started and finished in September 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The project worked out well, and the designs we received were unique. Other construction companies weren’t bold enough to use the kind of design we used. However, the vehicles on which we put those designs were a big hit. People texted me pictures of our trucks almost on a daily basis. We only had eight trucks, but one would think we had a hundred on the street because people would always notice them.
Moreover, customers and internal staff loved the designs so much that they suggested we put up an online store and sell the materials we had. Overall, the feedback had been positive, and the construction workers around the country had reached out to us to have a similar kind of design.
How did Rolff Sign Co. perform from a project management standpoint?
To communicate, we sent photos and had phone conversations with Rolff. At one point, I went to their shop and sat in front of their computer to pick out the final colors and backgrounds we wanted. In other words, we finalized the design in person. As a result, there were no surprises; before putting the designs on our trucks, we were already 100% confident with our pick.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Rolff understood my out-of-the-box idea and implemented it in a way that turned out better than what I envisioned. At the same time, they didn’t do any drastic changes to what I wanted. In other words, they took my idea and used their experience to come up with something that worked consistently with my idea.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there weren’t any.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Give Rolff the flexibility to do what they do best. Let them know that it’s okay to go beyond what other people are comfortable with so that they can truly get creative with their work.
The designs received positive feedback from people who had seen the designed trucks on the street, proving that the designs were a big hit. Rolff Sign Co.’s project management was also highly streamlined, and they earned the client’s confidence in their work. Overall, the project was successful.
