Introduce your business and what you do there.

We provided booking, POS, and accounting systems to establishments within the youth tourism sector in South Africa. Our company also offers a B2C app for travelers that allowed them to find these hostels and pay their bills. I’m the CEO of the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with RDFlex?

We needed backend development help on our Odoo CRM platform. Initially, I asked for their help on one quick task. When I saw their level of commitment to our systems, I realized that they had a great understanding of how these systems work. So, that one task turned into 100 tasks with them.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They were handling several tasks within our Odoo CRM system. That included dashboard creations, reporting, and integration. Additionally, they also worked on our React Native website, which contains the actual booking portal for our services. They helped with the payment portal integration that enabled our customers to make reservations through our site. 

What is the team composition?

I’ve noticed that there are several different teams working on the projects as the company has grown. However, an account manager is consistently sitting in on our Skype calls to ensure that we’re getting all the information we need. He will then pass off work to specialists within his team. 

How did you come to work with RDFlex?

I found them through a referral from another company. Before I found them, I spoke with about 10 companies. The other companies weren’t up to our standards, so we were happy to find them. Several companies were not completely transparent about what they could and couldn’t accomplish. This team was honest and provided us with realistic projections. That was very helpful. 

How much have you invested with them?

For the first three months, their part-time development work cost about $2,500. That’s been pretty much the same throughout the project. They’ve grown quite a bit since we started the engagement, but we’re still being charged legacy rates from when we started out together. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in January 2019, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’m extremely happy with the work that they do. They do high-quality work that makes it possible to develop with them without a technical background. When they came on board, our app had been live for about a year. Their work has been helpful in addressing crises with our POS systems, for example. They pull through, solve problems, and are constantly programming to benefit our business.  

When they write something, I know that it works. We don’t have to go back and fix anything. They’re great at factoring and fixing modules so they work properly. That can be painful work, but it’s extremely valuable. They’ve made POS performance improvements, which really helped us. We’re now able to adjust those systems off-line, and that’s been helpful.

How did RDFlex perform from a project management standpoint?

We mainly communicate through Skype, which was ideal for both of us. I preferred to take more of a project management role because I’m the lead programmer on the project. Since I knew the codebase, my knowledge paired with their organization was successful.

However, I can only speak as someone who has experience with programming. They have really quick response times to our problems, which is quite great. We always hit our deadlines with them. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re experienced in their field and solve problems quickly. Additionally, they’re a kind, polite group to work with. That furthers our relationship. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s such a relief to have them on board, that I don’t have anything constructive for them.

For what projects/services did your company hire RDFlex, and what were your goals?

We hired RDFlex for the manufacturing and inventory module for Odoo ERP solution. Our goal was automation all the warehouse processes.

There used to be Odoo employees and they have solid Odoo experience.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We automated our receiving and delivery process with RDFlex. Now, we're receiving our goods with a mobile device. We're also able to schedule our manufacturing process with a custom module that RDFlex has developed for us. We're doing good with the features of the custom module.

They managed our project with Jira and opened an account for our IT Manager. They developed the modules with Agile methodology. we have received new features every 2 weeks. There were a dedicated project manager who was reporting to me about the development process and releases.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The delivery time was impressive. We've received good features in a short period of time with good code quality.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Since working with an Indian company is cost-efficient but the time difference might affect the development quality. RDFlex was doing a great job eventhough there were 10 hours differences. At the beginning of the project, the time difference was a problem but they resolved it by assigning a dedicated project manager. The project manager was online between our work hours.

SME Business Support Pty Ltd helps small, medium and enterprise business improve their operational systems. our services are based on providing highly capable support to perform many different support based activities. We operate in the software as a service industry, we offer virtual assistance and we also have a heavy materials handling equipment division.

For what projects/services did your company hire RDFlex?

We knew when we began that we would want to work with a software system that could grow with our business, and within our business model, that is to offer our systems and team member support to other growing business owners. We chose to work with Odoo and continue to after some 8 years.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were simple, to create a highly leveraged business that allowed our physical effort to be minimised by maximizing our operational systems capacity. We needed exceptional Odoo development skills that could interpret our at times, wild creative ideas, and turn them into systems that allowed us to operate ever so easily as we continued to grow.

How did you select RDFlex?

RD Flex applied to a position we had advertised and immediately once we started to speak to each other I knew I was talking to a business owner who could not only develop what we wanted, yet could actually see what we wanted within their minds. This was a huge point of difference.

To describe our project in detail would almost be unfair, our project is to create the most simplified and streamlined operating system possible, and it continues to evolve alongside our continual business growth. With our business being in many different verticals we again needed great people along with great systems that could grow with us.

I have been fortunate to continue working with the RD Flex Business Owners at a high level of project management. We have been able to converse and overcome challenges that others had said could not be done.

The best form of showing project success is to continue working with great suppliers.
