The encouragement is arranged via bonus payments system. The app features two types of accounts with different options for sales and cashier. It also allows all users to check the JTI and tobacco world news and take part in surveys. The app supports Android OS.

Client needed a comprehensive solution that will allow users to search for and work with large amounts of data.  We came up with a scalable failure-resistant and stable SaaS solution able to work on high load to provide multiple accesses for any number of users.

Tower Defense Game

Our client - US Media Agency - had a concept of a potentially successful and popular game in mind. But to minimize the risks of presenting a new product to the market they wanted to create a beta version of the game to assess its monetization possibilities.

We offered to develop a game using JavaScript version of a popular engine Cocosw2D-JS. In fact, game AI and logic development was quite easy for us due to vast expertise. The performance we managed to achieve was close to the one in flash-based games. We also paid special attention to UI and UX delivering that special style which would help the game be not only pleasing and engaging, but memorable as well.

Graffiti App

Our client needed a simple mobile app that would allow the citizens to report about the graffiti on the streets.  This solution did not require any complexity since only 2 functions were necessary - taking pictures and sending reports.

On the contrary simplicity was the main concept behind the project: the app had to be very easy to use, so that reporting would not take too much time and effort. Therefore we developed a 2-screen app with two modules. Camera module enables users to take pictures of the graffiti. While mailing modules allow for sending images to the police department.

Stylist Exchange

The app for beauty salons and stylists enabling users to publish info about job vacancies; share photos, as well as import them from Instagram; make bookmark lists featuring their favorite profiles; search for other stylists based on a variety of  characteristics.

We developed both Android and iOS apps featuring location-based recommendations on the nearest restaurants, social plugins, opportunity to make photos and share them, as well as a variety of bonus and reward programs.

Construction Projects Manager

It’s a comprehensive system uniting web and mobile applications designed to manage projects of a large construction company in USA. This system provides a multi-level support for all the company’s projects due to position-based access rights (to provide only the necessary and allowed info for administrators and managers), the opportunity to manage general project properties, as well as track each phase of a particular project, parametric search, reports and more.

Radiation Meterage App

The app was developed for the U.S. law enforcement agencies to facilitate their work by collecting and analyzing data from radiation detection devices at crime scenes. The received data is generated into various reports featuring such info as type of radioactive isotopes, geographic and time details, detection devices type and other details important for the future investigation. The app supports various files formats and provides utmost security.

We delivered an app featuring global GPS coverage, documents editing opportunities, messaging, alerts and notifications. The Fleet Management App ensures uninterrupted tracking literary anywhere including the most remote regions.

R-Style Lab proved to be extremely proactive, honest, and entrepreneurial in their approach, with engineers who became a part of the client’s team. They were also recognized for their openness, hard work, and commitment to deliver the demo.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a startup company. I am the Chief Executive Officer of the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with R-Style Lab?

We needed to run a quick, experimental prototype which involved complicated algorithms related to machine vision.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

R-Style Lab developed an algorithm which involved a decent chunk of coding. Given that we have a patent pending, any disclosures regarding technology would not work in our favor.

R-Style Lab proved to be extremely proactive and entrepreneurial in their approach, involving their key engineer in the process. Our project was riddled with various hardware failures, but R-Style Lab was proactive in solving those problems and delivering the work.

R-Style Lab had a team of 6-8 people working for us, with different skillsets. Their main contact acted as the CTO for this project.

How did you come to work with R-Style Lab?

My partner recommended looking at companies in Belarus, given that he had worked with a provider there. I read about the IT sector there, and given that I'm Russian, there would be no language or cultural barriers, as opposed to contracting a company from China or India. I liked R-Style Lab's approach; they're extremely honest and open in negotiating. From the very beginning, instead of dealing with sales people, we sat down with engineers and discussed the project. R-Style Lab's team came up with different ideas, which is what entrepreneurs in our position want to see. I visited around 5 companies in Minsk, but R-Style Lab's approach appealed to me most, because of the initial contact with our engineers.

How much have you invested with R-Style Lab?

The total cost of our project with R-Style Lab was above $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our project ran for 10 months. The first phase has been completed, and we're doing fundraising for the next one. Things are open at the moment, but we will continue working with R-Style Lab.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We're still in the early stages, and don't have any clients yet. R-Style Lab has built a lot of expertise on my product, and I plan to keep them involved. I only have positive feedback for the demo version which we've received. It will be essential for our next round of fundraising.

How did R-Style Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

The project was experimental even beyond a typical R&D [research and development] engagement. I was involved in project management extensively, given that questions were raised all the time, and they needed to be answered by myself. R-Style Lab is very organized, but I had to stay involved from a directional point of view.

Belarus is not an easy country to deal with in terms of shipping hardware. I've visited R-Style Lab at least twice a month, delivering devices myself, in order to ensure that they wouldn't be stuck in customs.

What did you find most impressive about R-Style Lab?

My experience with outsourcing has been quite bad, particularly with UK companies. I would not recommend outsourcing to anyone who really cares about their product. R-Style Lab has been the exception, offering dedicated engineers who got involved to the point of becoming a part of our team.

Are there any areas R-Style Lab could improve?

There are many things which could have been done differently, but R&D is a difficult process. I wouldn't put the blame on R-Style Lab for anything that went wrong. Hardware fails all the time, and doesn't work as described. From a quality point of view, I've seen perfect dedication and commitment from R-Style Lab.

R-Style Lab has finite resources, with only one lead engineer who is split between different projects. From the first moment of meeting that person, I wanted him to be on my payroll, but that wasn't possible, unfortunately.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with R-Style Lab?

Startups are adaptable by nature, but bigger clients will require a bit of flexibility on both sides. A Western company will also have a difference in mentality, and will expect a level of service which is standard in the UK, for example. The most important point is that R-Style Lab can deliver on their promises, and are a hardworking team. They will also allow clients to save money, compared to the rates in the Western world.

The client considers the engagement launched with R-Style Lab a major success. According to the client, R-Style Lab proved instrumental to the development of their business from both a technical and strategic standpoint. R-Style Lab was praised further for their proactive approach to problem solving and for their uncompromising responsiveness throughout the development process. The client highly recommends R-Style Lab.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

Our company offers consultative and support services for the financial community. We specialize in different types of projects ranging from physical network administration to software development. Our main client base is composed of hedge funds, traders, infrastructure vendors, data vendors, and other types of companies, which we help with infrastructure management.

What is your position?

I am the founder and CEO of the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with R-Style Lab?

Our business model involves offering services using our internal staff. We had difficulties in keeping track of how many people are working on specific projects due to the large number of assignments we had operating on a support and development level. We needed to make sure that we had enough resources available in case something went wrong, requiring more of our attention. We couldn't have too many full-time resources at any one time because of the extra cost involved, and we couldn't have too few resources because then we would not be able to offer support for emergency cases in time. There was a need for balance and we needed to know where each person is situated, what they're doing, and what they will be doing within the next day, week, or month. At the end of the day, we had to bill our clients based on this information. This was an ongoing problem that needed to be solved.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement.

We wanted to develop a solution in-house, given that we have the necessary capacity. R-Style Lab came up with a very reasonable plan in terms of budget and were able to pull off our solution. They were a good alternative to spending money in-house, proving to be cheaper, more reliable, more predictable, and giving us what we needed. Actually, their solution turned out to be overkill. We didn't manage to use up all of it. They exceeded our expectations in many respects.

We didn't want to focus on one technology or another. We simply wanted it to work. We settled on a Java solution because it could work within any environment, including Linux, Microsoft, or MySQL servers.

How did you come to work with R-Style Lab?

The only real competitor to R-Style Lab was our own production department. Their company is known within the financial sector. I knew that R-Style Lab had developed systems for banks in Eastern Europe, for example, where they are very popular. I ran into their team on many occasions, including conferences, so I knew some of their staff. I'd had a conversation with their project manager and found out that they were already working on a similar project for another client. It was a sort of time management solution.

We were trying to figure out what would be best for us between developing everything in-house and being done with it, sacrificing a year's worth of resources in the process, or simply having someone else solve that problem for us. It seemed that R-Style Lab was able to offer a meaningful short-term solution without reinventing the wheel. We weren't trying to implement something that was brand new. We just needed a very specific, business-oriented solution for our business problem. An offshore agreement in which we'd have to manage the external team and develop requirements was not something that we had time for. We needed a quick fix, and it seemed that R-Style Lab would be able to help since they had the necessary expertise, resources, and capability.

I didn't want to launch a bidding process because we didn't want to deal with various offshore companies and have to explain every part of our requirements to them, leading to misunderstandings. R-Style Lab offered us a solution, and we accepted it. I liked what they proposed in terms of the business solution and budget, so we went ahead and did it.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work was completed two years ago. We had a one-time project with R-Style Lab, which worked out very well. We're not developing anything else at the moment since our problem was fixed, and we're not a development shop.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

Our business solution improved in terms of visibility, scheduling, and how much time is spent on each client. We wanted to make sure that we would be getting paid according to the work being made.

R-Style Lab's solution works. It's quality and scope was actually an overkill for us. It's strictly an internal-use tool, so it's not something that our clients will ever see. It would have been fine if R-Style Lab had delivered something less impressive. It's a professional tool that would have turned out much nastier and less user-friendly had we done it ourselves. It wasn't a strict requirement, but R-Style Lab delivered something that was of much higher quality than we were expecting. We didn't simply receive some code, but also support, usability, and documentation. Chances were we would be getting much more than expected, which happened in our case. I'm glad that it turned out like this because the other way around would have been bad.

They provided us ample documentation as well, including a systems guide. We don't need it, but we received this as a bonus.

How did R-Style Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We don't want to micromanage everybody. Normally, when working in a software development project, there is a daily need to oversee what's going on. What made the difference when it came to working with R-Style Lab was that they knew what we wanted and had already worked on something like this in the past. We didn't have to explain everything to them in great detail, but simply told them what we were trying to fix, the basic objectives. The hours needed to match our invoices. That was our goal, and it needed to be addressed. We didn't want to get involved in designing a database structure, creating application screenshots or anything else. R-Style Lab took our business requirements and figured out all the rest. In this case, it's more like a business solution than a technical one. It was a business improvement project.

What distinguishes R-Style Lab from other providers?

I know from my experience that it's difficult to work on projects of this kind with pure software development vendors. They know how to code, but that's not enough. This is the reason why we didn't contact any competing companies. We were buying something that would get us from point A to point B and wanted it built for us.

Is there anything R-Style Lab could have improved or done differently?

We didn't run into any serious issues. There wasn't a chance for us to encounter consistent problems that would need to be fixed at the management level, so I have no issues in this sense, neither do I have any problems with R-Style Lab technology-wise.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We're an IT [information technology] company combined with a design company. We offer graphic design, print, logos, and stuff like that, and we develop websites and mobile apps for Apple and Android devices. We also work on bigger applications used in hospitals and such. We do both IT and design.

What is your position?

I'm a project manager.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with R-Style Lab?

The original project was to develop a new website for one of our own clients. At this point, we've developed several different websites with them. Our IT guys have been very busy and, as a result, we decided to find a partner to increase our development capacity. It was going to be a better solution than trying to find full-time resources.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in more detail.

We handled the visual design of the websites, and R-Style handled the functional development. All the sites that we built together were built using WordPress. I've only worked with their project manager who then delegates and oversees the developers working on our site.

How did you come to work with R-Style Lab?

My boss took care of that process. I think they contacted us out of the blue. We checked them out, and it looked like they could be a good fit. We tried them for an initial, small project, which went fine, so we just stuck with them.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

I think they've done three websites for us, and they were about $1,500 to $2,000 each.

What is the status of this engagement?

We continue using their services.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

We've had mostly positive feedback from our own clients. We had some trouble with the latest page, but that wasn't really related to their work. It's hard to quantify their efforts and success because they're collaborating on the same project as our own team. There would be no way to tell if the success or improvements came from our work or theirs, exclusively. I can tell you that we haven't had any real issues with defects or delayed work. I think they're very well disciplined when it comes to delivery.

How did R-Style Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

I think they work very well, and the project manager I work with is very talented and reliable. She always keeps me updated, and checks to make sure everything's all right. She's on point and very good. We didn't use any specific project management tools, but she nonetheless kept me updated throughout the process.

Is there anything R-Style Lab could have improved or done differently?

For the latest website, we had trouble because their server went down and they lost the entire page. They had to build it out again in two days, and that did cause some anxiety. That was one thing we thought was a little weird, being a big company and not having a backup. However, it was a big web page that we lost, and they managed to deliver it again in just two days, which was very impressive.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We're a software development and marketing company, founded in 2011 and based in Northern Australia. We work with many large corporations, managing their online and digital marketing strategies.

What is your position?

I'm the project manager

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with R-Style Lab?

We needed to get more hands on deck for a couple of very intense and time-consuming projects. We have used offshore developers in the past with mixed results. We've had good experiences with Belarusian developers, so we gave them a few small projects that worked out well, and that led to larger projects. I guess you'd call this a team augmentation need. That's what we had.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in more detail.

It was definitely a complex undertaking. We did all the custom web development here in Australia. For the more technical tasks, which involved many audio-visual tools, adjusting audio streams and audio editing, that work was delegated to the guys in Belarus. It was a lot of Laravel PHP development, with quite a bit of JavaScript work for interactive coding in the web browser.

We used a small, tight team. We've only worked with a couple of developers on this project, and we had the use of a project manager on their side. It was a startup project, and the goal was to get it launched as quickly as possible, so we didn't have any testers involved. The project is being done in sequential stages, and we're currently at stage four.

How did you come to work with R-Style Lab?

I had worked with one of their staff members previously at a different company in Belarus. I was happy with her work, so I tracked her down to R-Style and ended up giving them some small bits of work. The success of those minor projects made me more confident with awarding them more complicated project work.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project was completed about two months ago.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

We don't have any documented evidence; however, we had a good experience working with R-Style Lab. Other stakeholders here at my company have been impressed with R-Style Lab and recommend that we continue using their services. We find them extremely reliable and responsive, which are big things when working with an offshore provider.

How did R-Style Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We had a fixed release date, and the guys there worked hard to make sure we hit that date. They definitely went above and beyond to ensure that we hit that deadline. It was great.

What distinguishes R-Style Lab from other providers?

I've worked with other offshore providers, and we seem to have a much better cultural fit with the Russians and the Belarusians. It's been a very fruitful partnership.

Is there anything R-Style Lab could have improved or done differently?

The only thing that I would want is 24-hour, around-the-clock support. It's become a bit hard when the developers aren't available on the weekends. That would be the only area they could improve, but I'm not even sure how realistic that is from their perspective.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

We develop different integrative solutions and also application development.

What is your position?

I am the CEO.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

Could you describe the business challenge that you were trying to address with R-Style Lab?

Basically, it was a lack of time for development and lack of expertise. They have expertise in application development, and they have decent time management. Their projects have been well managed, and they do good quality work.

SOLUTION

Could you describe the scope of their involvement in detail?

It was a fair amount of complex work. They've done custom Web and mobile development for us exclusively. We take care of the design, architecture, configuration, and strategy side of things.

How did you come to choose R-Style Lab?

I've had some common connections with their management, and I heard that they were a good company to work with from other major players in the industry. I visited their website and felt like they could be a good fit. After that, I asked for a contact and reached out to them with our RFP [request for proposal].

Can you provide a general cost estimate for this engagement?

We already invested somewhere between $30,000 and $50,000. It's so much because we started developing relations a long time ago and now we have big projects being estimated.

Do you maintain an ongoing relationship with them?

Of course. I doubt we'll move to another provider in the near future.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics on the project?

For me, success was the fact that our customers were pretty satisfied, so there is no specific metric. We just placed parts of the project with them, and the customers have accepted the work. We rarely receive complaints regarding malfunctions or defects in the system. When there are, it's usually resolved within 48 hours.

Now, we are building solutions with integration between platforms. Usually, our customers are also our partners, but not end users, so we're not communicating with end users directly.

From a project management perspective, are you also satisfied with their performance?

I remain satisfied completely because, for me, it's important to rely on our partners. Our technical specifications and requirements are just sent to their management, and we explain what we need right now. They are usually great at communication, and understanding the project. It's been good to work with such guys, who can understand what we need no matter what.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

I think we should work more together. I find that collaborative approached are more successful in the long run. For now, I am pretty satisfied, so I can't say what they need to improve right now.

What advice would you give a future client of theirs?

Make sure you scope out the work in great detail before you begin building things. It's very important to have a good design and architecture in place before you begin the functional development.

BACKGROUND

Could you describe your organization?

I work for a software development firm here in Belarus. We specialize in developing custom Web and mobile solutions for commercial businesses and other organizations.

What is your position?

I'm the head of sales and key account manager at our Finland branch office.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

Could you describe the business challenges that you were attempting to address when you first approached R-Style Lab?

We were facing some internal resource challenges. We had just won a new client project that was very demanding on the technical side of things. To put it simply, we didn't have the manpower to deliver their custom solution within the given timeframe. So, we decided to search for a technology partner to augment our internal team. At that point, the challenge became identifying the best possible provider to support our needs. The project was very complex and had a lot of moving parts, so we had to be sure that whomever we chose was going to be able to keep up.

SOLUTION

How did you come to choose R-Style Lab as your partner?

Our company requires us to go through a very formal procurement process when it comes to bringing on new resources. Fortunately, the development community in Belarus is very tight knit, so we already knew of a few companies that we wanted to contact. R-Style Lab was one of those companies. We sent out our project statements, invited each of them in for interviews, and compared their proposals based on a number of important factors. As I mentioned before, the most important thing was finding the most technically capable developer with a good amount of bandwidth. Based on our evaluation, R-Style Lab seemed to be the best fit for our needs.

Could you describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail?

We needed senior developers working on our projects. They worked closely with our internal development team on custom coding and testing. We handled the strategic and creative design aspects, but they were vital to the functional development of the solution.

Could you provide a general cost estimate for this engagement?

We've probably spent just under $200,000 on their services, and we continue to use them.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

In terms of results, could you share any statistics, metrics, or user feedback that would demonstrate the quality of their performance?

Because of the nature of the relationship, we can't really track metrics exclusive to R-Style. They work in collaboration with our own team, so the end solutions are a combination of all parties involved. I can tell you that our end customers and their end users have been very satisfied with the solutions we are delivering to them. We haven't experienced issues with defective code or bugs emerging on a regular basis. R-Style is an extremely reliable technology partner with exception communications skills and creative insights.

When working with R-Style Lab, is there anything that you would consider unique about their strategic approach or development methodology that distinguish them from other vendors?

The one thing that struck me was the accountability that they demonstrated. R-Style Lab takes serious ownership of their work. For them, it's not just about satisfying the technical requirements so much as it is about satisfying the end user's needs. They're always on the lookout for things they can improve, which makes them more of a partner than a vendor. They seem equally invested in the success of the project as our own team, which has been fantastic. That's how we've developed trust.

In retrospect, are there areas in which you think they could improve as a service provider?

Based on our project experience, not really. On a more general level, I would recommend expanding their services more. It's always nice to be able to use a wide range of services, from the more technical to the more strategic and creative. We have different vendor relationships for different service needs, but from a client perspective, it's always nice to have our needs consolidated with one provider.

What advice, if any, would you give to a future client of theirs before approaching them with a project?

Definitely have a well-defined scope and clear objectives going into it. That probably seems very intuitive, but there are a lot of companies out there with little experience developing Web solutions, so they just don't understand what things need to be figured out before hiring a tech partner, let alone actually developing a site or mobile app.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

I work for an international software development firm. We work with commercial, nonprofit, and government entities to build custom Web and mobile solutions.

What is your position?

I’m the head of marketing.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

Could you describe the business challenge that you were attempting to address when you first approached R-Style Lab?

We were contracted by a New York-based reputation management company. They needed a reputation management platform developed from scratch before they could launch their business. Their technology preference was Java and, at the time, my team didn’t have the internal resources to start the project on time as the client had a fairly tight timeline and budget. As a result, we were forced to find a reliable and trustworthy outsourcing vendor. We have a database of offshore providers internally, and we use it for these such cases. We contacted R-Style Lab, and they were ready to jump on the project fairly quickly. We ended up with seven dedicated Java developers for that project.

SOLUTION

Could you describe the scope of their actual involvement?

Initially, they were critical for the back-end development using Java and, later on, we added three more QA [quality assurance] specialists to perform to testing for the entire platform. We then worked on optimization and further customization. They worked closely with our own in-house team to perform all of the custom Java coding, and the design work was done entirely by our in-house team.

How did you select R-Style Lab as your partner?

We already had an internal database of potential vendors for situations like these, and we selected them as a potential supplier of Java resources. There were four different companies under consideration, and we sent an RFP [request for proposal] to each of those companies. R-Style was very competitive in terms of pricing, and they were ready to start almost immediately. That was one of the key selling points and one of the key factors in why we chose them. We didn’t have a lot of time to hand hold because the project was about to begin, so we had to be sure that the developers would be responsive, reliable and exceptional. R-Style Lab fit that bill.

Could you provide a general cost estimate for this particular engagement?

It cost around $250,000.

What was the project duration?

The project took around seven months to complete. I’ve sent a few mobile projects to them for estimates and, right now, we are waiting for approvals from clients. We will probably have another one or two projects in the near future with R-Style.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

In terms of results, could you share any statistics, metrics, or user feedback that would demonstrate the quality of their performance?

Because they worked alongside our own team, it’s hard to make any kind of distinction for the purpose of results. Our project manager and QA [quality assurance] specialist were working on the project as well, and they reported that the quality of the code was fantastic. It definitely saved us efforts on the QA part of the project. End-users rarely if ever find defects in their solutions.

The structure of communication was also very good. It was an agile approach, and we had a dedicated account manager overseeing all of our assignments. We divided the whole development into small iterations or sprints. We had weekly and biweekly meetings. The project was very transparent, and that was extremely important because the timeline was very tight.

When working with R-Style Lab, is there anything that you would consider unique or special about their approach or development methodology that distinguish them from other vendors

I think they’re a trustworthy vendor. That might seem superficial, but it’s really very important. It’s difficult to find an offshore vendor that can deliver on a consistent basis and also handle increasing workloads with such great efficiency. They are in constant communication with us to ensure that our requirements are met. It has taken time, but this relationship has grown into something far more valuable than simple offshoring.

In retrospect, are there any areas in which you think they could improve as a service provider?

I think the English-speaking skills of some developers could be improved, but for us it wasn’t a problem because we had the project manager who was responsible for all communication. As long as there is at least one project lead that can facilitate communication, it should be fine.

What advice, if any, would you give a future client of theirs?

Clearly stating the requirements at the very beginning would be a good option. These guys are very flexible, and they can jump on the project very quickly. If the client knows exactly what he or she wants, R-Style could provide a fairly quick start on the project. But, if you go into the engagement without a clearly defined scope and some material requirements, it could be more difficult to get than planned out before beginning any kind of development.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

We’re a custom Web and mobile application development shop. We handle design, development, launch, and maintenance of new and existing Web and mobile apps.

What is your position?

I’m the founder and chief executive officer.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

Could you describe the business challenge that you were trying to address when you first approached R-Style Lab?

I’ve had a relationship with them for a few years now, and we’ve worked on more than 20 different projects together, so it’s an ongoing string of projects. The challenges are often the same with any outsourcing scenario. We sometimes get huge and complex projects that really strain our own developers, so we use R-Style to augment our team and keep us on track for delivery.

SOLUTION

Could you describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail?

We’ve used them for a number of different development projects, including iOS and Android, PHP, and Java. They also did one .NET project for us. We started off with a simple, small project to get our feet wet, and all the processes dialed in. That was an iOS development project. In time, I’ve definitely given them a lot more responsibility. One example would be, in addition to all the project-based work they do, I have a dedicated team that works full-time for me on whatever I might need. That includes a project manager, and serves as an extension of my in-house team. The rest of the work is project-based, so we ramp up and down as needed. They’re my primary vendor, and they get first dibs on everything. Right now, we’re working on a big, 15-person project that may last months or even years. So, the relationship has matured, and they’ve earned a lot of my trust in delivering quality products.

How did you come to choose R-Style Lab as your partner?

I’ve had a relationship with their director of sales and marketing for several years. She took a job at R-Style and introduced me to them and brought me in. I had worked with her while she was at some other companies, too, so her recommendation held a lot of weight.

Could you provide a general cost estimate for this engagement?

In 2014, we probably spent a few hundred thousand on their development services.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

In terms of results, could you share any statistics, metrics, or user feedback that would demonstrate the quality of their performance?

I gauge quality by the volume of bugs being reported during our internal testing phase before we send it off to the client for review. Things are a lot better now compared to the way they used to be. The high quality of the initial delivery means a lot less work for us before we’re able to deliver the solution to the end client. I don’t have anything quantifiable there, but I can tell you that we have 100 percent success in terms of client satisfaction. We have yet to fail on a project or have one we didn’t get paid for. All of our clients are satisfied.

When we first began working together, each project had its own manager, and it was difficult to manage all the various projects. They’ve now assigned us a dedicated project manager who spends his days managing all of our projects. With his introduction, the management side of things has really been on point in terms of delivery, making sure things are up to spec, and making sure things are well tested. I can’t remember the last delivery date we missed.

When working with R-Style Lab, is there anything that you would consider unique or special about their approach or development methodology that distinguishes them from other vendors?

Their technical leadership is stellar. It’s far and above anything that I’ve worked with in the past, and that trickles down to everyone on their team. They’re really committed to adopting an American style of customer service, which is very high compared to other countries. They’re very responsive to our needs and consistently go above and beyond.

What advice, if any, would you give a future client of theirs?

Make sure you have the technical resources on your end to define the project requirements because you get what you ask for. If you go into the relationship without enough detail, it’ll be very difficult to get to the solution.

In retrospect, are there any areas in which you think they could improve as a service provider?

We tried to use them for design from time to time, but we have yet to figure out the best way to structure that. Design is a very subjective area, and it is particularly challenging to do across the pond. I’m thrilled with their development, but we still don’t use them for design. I would love to, but it just hasn’t worked yet. That would be the only area.
