3ds Max, Cinema 4D plugin for render farm Image

3ds Max, Cinema 4D plugin for render farm

AnimaPlugins are parts of complex development for online render service Animarender.com. The plugins are utilities that are built into specific 3D modeling software, e.g. 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Blender, etc, allowing to collect all the assets used in the user’s 3D project, prepare it in the proper way and submit for render on the AnimaRender farm in one click. On top of this, the AnimaPlugins can detect errors that can lead to render
failure and either fix it or offer ways of fixing it to the user. The plugins are integrated into AnimaManager app and can be connected to the user’s software by the first launch of AnimaManager and automated detection of all the 3D software packages installed on the computer.

Inside the account, users can top up their
balance with any of 5 payment methods, upload any assets they need to render, select needed software and start render job with all custom settings. The responsive interface would help with setup of one's task, advise when everything is ready or attention is needed. Live technical support is also integrated and available 24/7.

AnimaManager - a desktop application developed for online render service AnimaRender farm. The app interacts with AnimaRender backend. AnimaManager allows to start render directly from user’s modelling software, monitor render jobs and perform all other actions as one can do on the website (calculate the cost of the project, recharge his/her account, read news of the service etc.) The app can serve as a full-scale substitute of
the website with one significant advantage: synchronization. This function allows synchronizing all the results of render jobs in real-time to the specified folder on the user’s computer. The app can be used for submitting render jobs either with built-in plugins for various modeling software or by itself. AnimaManager is available both for Mac OS and Windows.

As a result of Proton Labs’ work, the client was able to get a high-quality solution for an affordable price. The team is ambitious and passionate about their work, and they were always willing to go the extra mile.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the chief sales officer at Animarender, an online rendering services provider.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Proton Labs?

We needed web development support.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our website has opportunities for users to upload and download huge projects. Anyone can use PayPal or credit card to charge the account, upload files, start rendering, and then get results in no time.

They’ve developed our desktop application which allows opportunities of doing all the same operations but without leaving one’s desktop. It works on Windows and Mac. It has plugins that allow the user to connect their software for modeling to the remote render directly.

Currently, we have some minor ongoing projects. They provide some support for the projects we had earlier. We also have minor features upgraded from time to time.

What is the team composition?

The core team is 4-5 people. I interact mostly with the project manager. They have a team lead/senior developer and several middle to junior developers. A year ago, when we had more work, we had 12-15 people helping us.

How did you come to work with Proton Labs?

We heard about them through word of mouth.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2017, and the work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We made the right choice by choosing them. It was a mutually beneficial operation because they are a small, young company. They’re ready to do their best. For us, it was a great cooperation. They’re ready to go the extra mile when we have problems or misunderstandings.

How did Proton Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

All features were delivered on time. We’re not great in developing things and making all the technical requirements and details. It was really great that they understood that.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re really energetic and ambitious. Their pricing is also very affordable. They delivered everything we wanted on time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We have a really big tech stack which makes it a bit complicated if a developer leaves their team. They’re not that big of a company and in some cases, it takes time to change a person. It can be tricky.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be detailed and explain what exactly you expect. Proton Labs is good at listening. They heard us and even offered a better technical solution.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Proton Labs?

We needed development support for our company.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Proton Labs’ programming specialists are doing development based on our tasks. They build and program the solution, and sometimes do work around system administration and server configuration. Their team is using the PHP framework, Django, MySQL, and JavaScript.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two programmers and one project manager. Sometimes, I spoke with a financial specialist.

How did you come to work with Proton Labs?

I chose Proton Labs because they worked with my former company, although I didn’t work directly with them at that time. They did everything well, so I decided to approach them for this project.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve invested between $4,000–$5,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in May 2019, and we’re still developing the project.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Proton Labs does everything well, and I have no issues with them. If there are any issues, they correct them in a short amount of time.

How did Proton Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira for project management. They have their own Jira, and I put tasks on it.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I like working with them because their technical specialists often help me with decisions around choosing a way to solve my tasks.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our internal team wants things to be developed faster, but this isn’t a big problem for them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to keep an eye on the timeline and deadlines.
