We are an Indian technology company focusing on the information-as-a-service concept for agriculture. We take data from farmers and sellers, build strong datasets, and run econometric modeling and machine learning algorithms on them in order to predict behaviors and design improved products. We were founded one year and 3 months ago, and we have 10 employees, 50% of them focusing on customer support. We also have one technology expert in-house. 

I am the founder and chief information officer of the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Promatics Technologies?

We are a new company with limited resources, so we needed a technology partner for building our systems.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a relatively new concept and some specific requirements around it. Promatics Technologies worked based on our mockups, figuring out a solution in collaboration with our team.

Because we participate in farming events, we've had set deadlines. Promatics Technologies was able to work additional hours during these periods, even on weekends, which we appreciated.

Promatics Technologies assigned 3 developers (1 of them in charge of PHP work) and 3 testers for our project.

How did you come to work with Promatics Technologies?

We had a couple of options in our list, including Promatics Technologies. We found the company on Upwork and initially gave them a small, 2-3-week project developing an application for farmers. The idea was to test our ability to get work done using Promatics Technologies, and it ended up well. There were some initial trust issues along with the fact that we were working remotely, but as time passed, we developed a strong relationship from a business perspective.

How much have you invested with Promatics Technologies?

The total cost of our project with Promatics Technologies was $110,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Promatics Technologies in November 2015. We have finalized our initial streamline, and the app was launched on the Play Store. We have also completed a second project with Promatics Technologies, and are running a 3rd one currently. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

So far, we have onboarded 198 sellers and 2,500 customers. 7% of customers use our app on a daily basis, and 25% of them use it weekly, which is very good engagement. Promatics Technologies helped us shape our application, allowing our group to gather data from customers.

How did Promatics Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Promatics Technologies was good in this regard, but not exceptional. Timelines were only missed in 5% of the time, and then only by 1-2 days. That usually happened because Promatics Technologies wanted to ensure that testing was done properly. We used Skype to discuss mockups.

What did you find most impressive about Promatics Technologies?

Promatics Technologies was willing to go the extra mile for us whenever we had urgent requests. The team had people available even on holidays, ensuring that we'd have the product ready for the next day.

Are there any areas Promatics Technologies could improve?

Time and project management could be improved somewhat, by using dedicated tools. I do understand that Promatics Technologies needs to run multiple projects simultaneously. They also have a very good price, compared to market standards.

I am very satisfied with Promatics' work. The testing was done mainly by my colleagues and me. There are always things to improve, from design to programming issues, but all our feedback was implemented by Promatics according to our needs. The result was very much how we wanted it.

It's always important to find a way of working together with any new supplier. After working for a few weeks with Promatics, we found what worked best for us, and I'm excited to continue the working relationship.

What did you find most impressive about Promatics Technologies?

I haven't worked on this type of project often, so it would be hard to differentiate Promatics from other developers. All our experiences have been good. Promatics listened to and understood our needs. They did what we wanted, but also shared their opinions.

Are there any areas Promatics Technologies could improve?

Other programmers may be able to find improvements in Promatics' work, but, looking at it from a user perspective, based on our initial requirements, I cannot find anything wrong.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Promatics Technologies?

Through working with developers, I've learned that it's important to be specific with what I ask for. If the requirements are vague, it can lead to many issues. This hasn't happened in Promatics' case, but it is true in general.

The total development cost was around $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The majority of the work has been completed. There are a couple of modules in development still, like the payment one. For the time being, I am not requiring fees from any of my users. The original estimation for the project was eight weeks. It took a little longer than expected to complete.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I have no metrics yet, given that we're still in the process of announcing the site to a wider market. We did a few small advertisements for it last month and people registered with us. They gave us positive feedback about the design of the website and how user-friendly it is.

I am happy with their services. I was able to contact anyone from their team online easily whenever something went wrong.

They are a professional company. They took my requests, itemized everything, and gave a response to each question and issue I had. The process was quick and fully involved on my end. I was not expecting to have such an ample level of communication, but that was a good thing. Promatics provided in-depth data constantly, which took me a long time to get through in order to get a response to them.

What business challenge were you trying to address with Promatics Technologies?

We work primarily with schools. Many of our customers needed the ability to track their students. Our main objective was to develop an app that would allow teachers to see whether the students were staying on task and to encourage them to do what they were supposed to. We used mainly Chromebooks. Google doesn't have an inherent ability for this.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

They worked on the app's development. We haven't used Promatics for any consulting, training, or support yet. I would be open to them doing other things for us, but this was our first conversation and relationship.

How did you come to work with Promatics Technologies?

We had first worked with another team. They were not responsive at all. I did an Internet search looking for alternatives, and sent emails to several different companies. Promatics were the first to respond. Not only that, but their CEO [Arpit Jain] got in touch, which impressed me. As I started to explain our process, his response time and concern were incredible, and we ended up selecting them.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The initial project cost was less than $10,000. We've only reached version 1.0 of the app, so as we continue to build, there will have been several other projects of the same size.

What is the status of this engagement?

Promatics started working with us in November 2015, and we completed the project two days ago [December 2015]. Their response time has been incredible.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I don't have any statistics at this time. It has just been finished. However, we have deployed the app in three different locations for testing purposes, and it tested great. For comparison, we tested the other app together with our previous company, and it broke the student Chromebooks. They couldn't go to certain sites. 

With the new app, we tested the same sites and the same issues, and there were none at all. The first three minimal rollouts have been very positive. Right now, in terms of data, we're looking at the amount of server bandwidth that will be taken up and performance issues. We don't have enough numbers yet, but the three data points we've had, have been positive. We should know more by mid-January [2016].

How did Promatics Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

The project was completed two weeks ahead of time. I can't think of another place that has ever done that for me. That's astounding, especially since we've worked with another company that had worked with us for eight months in order to complete it.

One of the things that are very hard for any businessperson to find is a team that will respond quickly and do what you say. I've been extremely impressed so far with their ability to do that. It's like having a copy of Photoshop in front of you, where you can grab and move images around, but with code. I have the ability to look from a high standpoint and decide what I want the app to do, but without worrying about technical aspects. If I tell them to move something to the left or add a feature, it simply gets done, and I don't have to think about the back-end.

Typically, their response time was one day. They would let me look at a version of the app on Monday, I would write my issues and corrections, and, by Tuesday or Wednesday morning at the absolute latest, they would have updates, which weren't simply their announcement of what they're working on, but the actual completed work. This is all the more impressive, as I'm coming from a company that would announce "We're working on it," or ask for more time. Promatics just get the work done. I feel that I have a team that I can trust to get things done.

What distinguishes Promatics Technologies from other providers?

They have great response time and do what I ask. The other company would only do what I said. What I like about Promatics is that they're adding things that I didn't particularly ask for, which contribute positively to the work. One example would be a search function that I wanted to implement. They added a date-range search, which was their idea.

They went well beyond the scope of what I set out. That was not only due to features requested by me, but also ideas that they came up with, and included directly. It isn't just about me coming up with ideas. I also need feedback from smart developers, especially since they bring things I'd never have even though of on my own. If a feature will take three hours to program, but will make the experience 10 times better, then spend those three hours, and let me know. There were several things that they added, which enhanced the app without my asking.

Is there anything Promatics Technologies could have improved or done differently?

There were some grammar errors in the app. This is a minor issue, and there's nothing else. Any quality control would catch this anyway.

We're a sports analytics company. We collect data on basketball and other sports and analyze it. One of our verticals is a consumer website where we publish stories and provide tools that consumers can use to visualize our data.

We wanted to rework our website. The page we used last year had more of a blog format. We wanted to provide more tools. Much of what we'll be doing will be less content-oriented. We will do one or two feature stories every day, but mainly focus on our tools and data.

They worked exclusively on development. For content management, we use a platform called prismic. They use a combination of PHP and MySQL technologies for this project.

How did you come to work with Promatics?

I reached out to a number of companies found through searching the Internet and looking at reviews. I received proposals from some of those and ultimately selected Promatics.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The project cost was less than $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project was finished in November 2015. We'll be working with them again on additional payment processing tools.

We're very much satisfied. Promatics made a new system that worked, and delivered quickly. We've liked them enough to contract them for a second project. Because we haven't gone out to consumers yet, I don't have a lot of user feedback. The internal feedback from people in my company has been positive. It looks and works great. The tool that they've built is very functional.

How did Promatics perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication was excellent. In my experience with other third-party vendors, I've noticed that communication isn't always good. Promatics provided very complete and easy-to-follow daily updates. They followed directions very well.

What distinguishes Promatics from other providers?

The combination of doing good work quickly at a low cost and as good a customer service as I've had with a third-party developer has made them stand out for me. They were accurate with each one of their criteria.

Is there anything Promatics could have improved or done differently?

Initially, we gave them high-level design specs. It would have been better if we'd given them more detailed user flows. The first iterations weren't exactly what we were looking for. We let them know that, and the next day it was exactly like we wanted it. It would save their time and ours in the future to provide better upfront user flows before starting the work.
