What is The Population Project?
The Population Project is an US-based non-profit striving to list the full name and birth date of all humans alive. The database is fueled by official lists and user-generated contributions, and is actively growing with more than 1M records being added on a daily basis.
The website has been launched in early Fall 2022 and is currently being actively maintained and further developed by our team.
Our impact
The Population Project is a statistics website that provides information about the population of every country in the world. It has features like charts, interactive maps and tables to display different statistics about the population.
We have a website that can handle a high number of concurrent users and is very quick to respond. The technology it leverages is powered by the Jamstack approach we decided to work with and the results are visible on the live website.
Web Educational Platform
What is the Web Educational Platform?
The Web Educational Platform is a website that enables children, teens and adults alike to learn any of the subjects available on the platform (trust us, there's a lot of topics).
The features of the platform span from allowing its' students to learn through repetition, using a smart algorithm, to allowing content creators to add new content, view analytics of the popularity of their content and request payouts, given a percentage of each one of their student's monthly/yearly subscription fee.
About the project & Our impact
We have started working on the project back in February 2021, the project having just finished development for all essential functionality. Unfortunately, the project has been ongoing ever since 2018, and the technology used was very outdated. For instance, the backend was still using the beta version of a very popular backend application framework.
We understood the challenge we were up against: we need to launch this application. For us, that meant that we needed to bring it up to security standards and ensure that all functionality works as intended, but to also make sure that the client's requests are answered to and that work on new features was still possible.
Having set the right expectations for both the development team and the client, work has started. For the first 8 months, we have closed over 75 Jira tickets for severe bugs and we were in a good position to start refactoring
Throughout the following year, and the time spent up until December 2022, we have completely rewritten the entire application: Website, Mobile Application and Backend.
Furthermore, we have completely reworked the architecture, both from a repository perspective, since we've chosen to use Nx and a monorepo approach, as well as from a backend systems perspective, where we've moved from an ad-hoc backend that used a virtual machine, to a containerized environment, highly available, highly maintainable.

What is the Educational Mobile App?
The Educational Mobile App is a mobile application that enables children, teens and adults to learn a variety of new topics using a methodology of learning through repetition, translated into a computer algorithm.
The app is actively under development, new features being added on a weekly basis.
About the project & Our impact
We have started working on the project back in February 2021 and have since upgraded React Native, the main technology of the mobile app, from v0.56 to v0.64, and in the Fall of 2022, to the latest at the time.
During this process we have greatly improved the stability and performance of the app, which resulted in better user experience and has enabled the business to start using it as the main source of new students.
Additionally, we have implemented best practices for accelerated software development, having added Fastlane CI, along with leveraging Gitlab CI/CD to properly control our environment and improve release performance.
Shipment Web Dashboard
What is the Shipment Web Dashboard?
The Shipment Web Dashboard is a platform that allows operators of an Israeli startup to generate freight forwarding quotes in a very simplistic and intelligent manner, using artificial intelligence to parse incoming quote requests using natural language processing.
Our impact
We have build the website that the operators interact with on a daily basis and use to generate quotes, and also print them using a pre-defined template, ready to be sent to the freight forwarders.
Digital Twin Platform
What is the Digital Twin Platform?
The Digital Twin Platform is an web application that allows it's users to navigate the interior of designated buildings that go through the process of digital representation.
The process consists of creating a digital twin of the real-life interior of the designated building and is offered as a custom solution for each client.
Our impact
For the Digital Twin Platform project we have fully refactored an existing Backend, written with Express (the Node.js web application framework), and moved it to NestJS (also a Node.js web application framework, but one that uses an Object-Oriented Approach and a more structured architecture).
Additionally, our team has contributed to the Frontend Angular website which allows the users to navigate the digital twins.
INMATEH
What is INMATEH?
INMATEH is an Agricultural Engineering scientific journal. The website looks to enable contributors from around the globe to easily write content for the journal, which is released once every 3 months.
There are 4 types of users, each one serves a specific purpose for the journal: contributor, reviewer, translator and editor.
Our impact
INMATEH has been built from scratch by one of our team members, between October 2019 and January 2020. Development and maintenance have been done by another team ever since then, and in November 2022 the client has asked us to fix the web application.
The project was partially functional as we began our work, with basic functionality such as signing in not working. Our first job was to assess the issues and the time needed to remediate all problems.
We then moved to create a staging environment, automate the deployment processes with Jenkins and then start fixing all issues.

One of the projects we worked on that was very complex was a Digital Twin technology platform, where the backend architecture was developed within AWS and managed using Terraform. The frontend application was written in Angular + ReactJS, and the backend was initially in Express. Pro Application Tech refactored the entire backend to use NestJS and TypeScript whilst maintaining the same service availability and functionality.

So far, we have worked with 2 developers from Pro Application Tech. 1 Back-end position with Nest.js. React, MongoDB, TypeScript, AWS 1 Full-stack position with React, Electron, Redux Observables

I'm the founder and president of the Population Project, a non-profit organization whose goal is to record the full name and date of birth of all humans alive.
For what projects/services did your company hire Pro Application Tech, and what were your goals?
Our current website was merely describing the goals and purpose of the organization. It was time to launch a second version, that would display the contents of our database and let users create and edit records on their own.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We placed a request for proposals on Upwork. The deciding factors were: - the previous jobs produced by Pro App Tech; - the relatively small size of the organization; - the ability to speak directly with the owners/managers; - the hourly rate of programmers.

Pro App Tech has developed our new site from A to Z in Next.js, in tandem with a freelance designer and our back-end team. The site is available in three formats: desktop, tablet and phone. We exchange with Pro App Tech on a daily basis through Slack. We also have a weekly meeting with the full team (back end, development, design) to measure our progress and set new goals for the week.

One programmer and one owner/manager.

It's too early to share numbers but the quality of the new site is outstanding and far superior to our expectations. Our partners and volunteers are incredibly impressed.

We communicate through Slack, Zoom and Trello. The style is laidback, though extremely professional. No question of ours goes unanswered. Even when our programmer doesn't know the answer from the top of head, he'll come back a few hours later with an educated opinion on the subject.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
What I really appreciate is that Valentin, the vendor's owner is always available when I need him, even late at night. (he absorbs the entire 7-hour time difference).
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Not really!
