BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and director of Sunali’s Classes, a company that provides an educational app called Inq, which helps students solve problems that they don’t have solutions for. The platform allows them to upload the exercises to a forum by either typing them out or by taking pictures, and sends them to a group of students who will help answer the questions. The solution is a free app, for now.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Pixolo Productions?

We wanted to create a simple and fast application that would work across different Android devices. People in India typically don’t have the latest phone models, so it was important for it to work across old and new ones alike. We also wanted to build it as a responsive web app, so that we wouldn’t have to create a separate version of our platform for iOS.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pixolo Productions developed our website and Android application. The basic functionality consists of posting questions on a public forum. Users can either type them in or send photos, and there’s a feed showing all the available questions. We also have tags for the questions in order to separate them by chapters. It’s also possible to browse answered questions, including by importance, to revisit critical ones later on.

They provided end-to-end services, working with us on how the app should be structured, and handling design and development. Since I’m not too technically-inclined, I only sent them a set of requirements specifying how the app should work. We’re still undergoing some development, which will make up the next version of the app. We’ve also given Pixolo a contract for a completely new website, which is also in progress.

How did you come to work with Pixolo Productions?

I searched on Google for developers both in and out of our country. Pixolo Productions had a good portfolio and pricing and seemed confident in being able to deliver. I haven’t been disappointed so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them almost two years ago, and the collaboration is ongoing. The first app was released almost a year-and-a-half ago. We’ve had a couple of updates since then.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve never had an application before, so it’s difficult to quantify its impact. Whatever success we’ve had so far, has been thanks to Pixolo Productions’ involvement. We currently have 5,500 downloads on Android devices.

How did Pixolo Productions perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve handled this part well, right from the brainstorming part. Not only do they understand the requirements, but also suggest new features and approaches so that we can deliver the best product possible.

We use Google Docs for communication, as well as phone and email. There aren’t too many people involved, so we don’t require a separate project management tool, though they did recommend a couple to us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They never stop trying, and they’ll continue to experiment in order to deliver the best results. They always adopt new technologies, and the technical people I’ve shown the app to have told me that Pixolo Production’s choices are modern.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their only thing to improve is their development speed so that they can shorten their timelines.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

It’s important to have a discussion with them first to see what else can be done besides the standard requirements.
