Order Barcode Scanning and Tracking System
Project Description
Custom Catch needed to maximize efficiency while increasing visibility into all aspects of its new facility and came to Pell Software to design and create an application customized to optimize its unique workflow. The design streamlines the order fulfillment process including custom product creation and order shipping routines and integrates directly with the Shipstation order and shipping management system.
The system automatically procures orders and allows staff members to easily track and update the orders they are creating and shipping. Also included are reporting tools to track maker and shipper defects/exceptions.

I'm the Director of IT for GH Phipps Construction Companies headquartered in Denver Colorado. GH Phipps is a long-standing commercial general contractor focusing out efforts in Colorado and Wyoming since 1952. My team and I are responsible for all that is IT for our 5 permanent offices as well as all temporary job sites.
For what projects/services did your company hire Pell Software, and what were your goals?
I engaged Pell SW to take over a systems integration development effort with a lot of moving parts from another firm that wasn't going as smoothly as it could. The solutions had been in place for close to a year, and we had a number of required bug fixes and enhancements that were needed in a rather short period of time.
The original development firm wasn't able to meet the timeline so I began reaching out to other Denver-based development companies.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
I reached out to a total of 3 other development firms here in the Denver area. Over the course of a few weeks, I had held at least 1 video conference with each where a high-level description of the solution and new requirements were discussed.
Out of the 3, Pell SW seemed to grasp the existing systems and requested new functionality very quickly, and quite frankly asked me very on-point and salient questions. It was at that point I decided to go with Pell SW.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
Integration is between an on-prem web portal, a 3rd party SaaS system, and our SharePoint 365 environment. We had a number of lingering bugs from a previous release that needed to be addressed, as well as a need to add functionality to better handle compliance as it relates to jobs under NDA and Confidentiality Agreements.
Following the initial meeting, an in-depth walkthrough of the systems was conducted, and requirements were again covered. Pell SW took that information and provided a very comprehensive SOW outlining everything that was discussed, timeline, and costs. SOW was executed and work began within days.
The goal was to have the project completed before the end of July, and I'm happy to say we accomplished that.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There were 2 folks from Pell SW. Their President/Founder who was involved in the discovery conversations and crafting the SOW, and a Sr. Software Engineer with whom I worked very closing during the development, testing and release.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We met the project deadline of launching before the end of July, and the release process was the smoothest we've had with this solution (this was our 6th or 7th release since it's inception);
the entire release took about an hour and we had no issues. This new release affords us the ability to automate portions of access control to job information that falls under an NDA and must be restricted, which was 100% manually previously, and error-prone.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Communication was fantastic! I was kept informed throughout the development cycle, and as questions came up, answers weren't far behind. We used mostly email, text messaging, and MS Teams/Google Meet.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I was honestly a bit concerned about them picking up where the previous development firm left off in a timely fashion; I was pleasantly surprised that in just a few days of beginning work, they had already addressed some of the bug fixes.
I've been working with development and IT service providers for close to 30 years, and something I found extremely refreshing about working with Pell SW was the ease at which you could have a conversation. No overly formal BS or red tape got in the way. They were accessible as and when I needed them to be and proactive in giving me updates.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Nothing that I can think of at this moment, no.

For what projects/services did your company hire Pell Software, and what were your goals?
We needed a made from scratch custom order entry system to help us track all vehicles being moved at our 45+ locations all over the United States. In conjunction we needed a mobile app to work with our order entry system for our drivers in the field. This system then feeds our revenue into QuickBooks for revenue and expense tracking.
The goal of this system is to ensure we do not miss any revenue and all vehicles are receieved by our clients timely and efficiently.
How did you select Pell Software and what were the deciding factors?
We were referred to Pell Software. We spoke to several other companies and Pell Software seemed most willing to create a customized program Marty was the most open to listening to our needs to create what we wanted.

Our order entry system had to be customized to all our individual locations. They had to create multiple levels to account for different pricing structures across all our business units, different billing scenarios for our different clients, and get everything to sync over to QuickBooks appropriately. The system also has to work in conjunction with a mobile app Pell Software created.
The mobile app has to have the ability to see the order details, scan vins, document data about a vehicle, and keep up with driver pay details. We had a 3-4 month timeline for completion and due to unforeseen circumstances had to get project done sooner.
Marty and team made this a priority and were able to get us a working system with a weeks notice when they still had a month left on their timeline.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We had three primary people we worked with from Pell software. Marty, who is owner, Tiffany primarily works on the mobile app and specialty items, and Robert who helped us create reports and many of the items in the order entry system.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Pell software was able to get our system to us ahead of schedule. We are continuing to work with them to enhance and add additional features to the system. His team has been great to work with, flexible, professional, and dependable.

Project management has been great. Marty keeps everything on a project management board for all to refer back to. We have weekly calls to follow up on progress, issues, and new tasks. If we need to speak sooner about items Marty always makes time to jump on a googlemeet call to discuss.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
We get to work with Marty's entire team to share ideas and work through issues. They've all been very helpful and insightful. We are creating a great program together that will help our business be a step above our competitors.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Marty and Pellsoftware have been great. I wouldn't change a thing.

Martin and his team were able to help automate and implement a process that ensured the data was transferred accurately, securely, and in a timely manner. We have since made several updates to the process and the Pell Sotfware team has been very responsive and has helped ensure that the process is functioning as expected.

We had recently invested in a Dog Daycare, Boarding, and Grooming franchise company. We needed Pell Software to help us automate our reporting process. Basically, they came up with a process to automatically download a report and transfer the data into PowerBI on a nightly basis.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We had worked with Pell Software in the past and had found the process successful. In fact, we are already talking about working on another project with them.

We needed a specific report pulled automatically from a website. This report had to be converted to a csv format, and updated in PowerBI nightly. This is for revenue reporting internally. We first worked with Pell Software to outline what we needed done, and if it was even possible. This kind of automation isn't our strong suit which is why partnering with Pell was so critical. Throughout the project and even after it was delivered, Martin had made himself available to help us out.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We worked with Martin Pellicore, the president of the company mostly. He is also a software engineer and was our main point of contact. We also worked with Chris Swenson, another software engineer at the company.

The project went exactly as planned. We now have almost real time data visibility in a way that was previously unattainable.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The workflow was very effective. Martin was always available to answer questions and if he was out of office, he would include a coworker in the email to ensure we were taken care of.

Martin is very upfront and candid. We appreciated the level of transparency he had.

I interviewed a few candidates and could quickly tell from my conversation with Martin that he knew what he was doing and was well organized. He was able to put together a ball park estimate of time and pricing and ended up being quicker and slightly cheaper than what he ball parked..

Our CRM software does all of our scheduling and we wanted the inspection information to auto populate in to a form building software we use for digital inspections. We first IDed what info we needed to pull out of our CRM and where it needed to go in the form building platform. This is a review for ongoing work that spans many projects we have and also we will have going. One of the most recent is that we needed to have custom API's built and then along with that webhooks and custom forms. The entries to these are made via our client websites but then are passed on via these API's and webhooks to a partner of ours. It is quite complicated and delicate and very important to our company.
Another project also includes building custom APIs and displaying the data from those APIs on pages of client websites. This is all custom coding with many factors involved to get it right.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We were referred to Pell from another vendor and when we spoke to them we knew they would be perfect for our needs, they are reliable, unbelievably talented and price their work reasonably.

This work took place with our development team so I can't tell you all the steps but the deliverable was the successful hand shake of the data to the partner via the webforms and it has been working perfectly! Also the custom APIs, to this day all work exactly as we want and we are about to build a set of new ones with Pell

There were 2 to 3 people working on this, not sure the positions.

We are now delivering the data we need direct from users on the website to our partners APIs.

I recently had an ecommerce site developed in Shopify only to be completely unsatisfied with the service that I received from the hired company. I had worked with Martin for a long time before moving to the new site and when I became aware of Pell Software, I knew i needed to bring them into work on any issues and new developments of our site.

I worked with Martin for at least 8 years with a different company and when I was informed that he had started Pell Software, I was excited to be able to reach out and have him work with us again.

For this particular project I need them to come in and learn an entire site and it's programming in order for us to move away from the other company that I was entirely dissatisfied with. We had to have meetings with the other companies to be able to bring pell onboard. With the very low communication for the previous company, Pell Software jumped in and have been able to fix all of the issues we were having with the shopify programming.

I mainly work with two people at the company. The President / Software Engineer and another Software Engineer.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
After brining in Pell Software we have been able to keep our site running with all of our orders being transferred into our in-house ordering system and tracking information being sent back. Also fixing any freight, discounts and ordering issues that we were having before.

I am mainly an email person and they adapted to my style. They are very responsive as I usually hear back that someone has read my email and a timing on when I should hear back with the solution within a couple hours depending on the time of day as we are on a different timezone.

Pell Software has extensive knowledge in e-commerce development. I have always been impressed with their quick turnaround and solution to every issue that has ever come up.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
I cannot think of any. I am thankful to have found them. Keeps my mind at peace.

Pell Software has created incredible applications that keep getting better based on our clients needs and requests. Fortunately we found a partner in Pell that is excited to work as fast as those new needs and requests arise!

They are incredibly thorough on creating the requirements documentation and delivering upon those requirements. My team receives weekly updates on progress and Pell has never missed a deadline.
