    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

At that time I was at top manager at IAOP Global Outsourcing 100 company. We had a customer with a specific need for VR solution and unfortunately we didn't have any in house experts. We found OTR through our network, they had very solid reputation among our partners.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

The main task was to create an interactive VR smart boards for our customer pilots academy classroom, a customized teaching and learning solution for helicopter pilot training.

What were your goals for this project?

We required them to develop a new approach for our customer cadets’ training based on VR educational panels. We need to develop a platform for preparing pilots to manipulate helicopter controls, demonstrate the way MI-17's systems function, and prepare them to fly helicopters all in a safe, risk-free environment.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We compared around 10 companies from different locations, OTR has both highly-skilled VR resources that we managed to interview within a couple of days and capacity to start the project right way!

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

The final project OTR delivered included 8 smart training panels, each equipped with the original helicopter controllers and sticks. The entire system was supported by animations turning the 3D models into interactive ones, fully replicating the original helicopter.

The best thing about the project was the entire system’s perfect visibility and accessibility of the key parts and units combined with the simplicity of operation, while the product was created with both students’ and lecturers’ applications in mind. Pilots academy cadets can observe every element and equipment by simply moving their heads as if they were inside the vehicle.

This ensures a much better demonstration of the system’s functionality and operation. Lecturers can manipulate various information with clear indication and advanced animation as if on real-life video boards.

    What was the team composition?

We had 3 C++ devs, 2 QA engineers, 1 electronic engineer and 1 dedicated project manager.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The panels have been fully implemented into our customer's training curriculum, showing a significant increase in trainees’ results. The new technology helped to facilitate the training process achieving training time reduction by 15%. According to our customer, they have also been getting 10% more positive feedback on the graduates’ practical skills, proving that the interactive environment turned out to be a great productivity tool for both students and our teaching staff.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Very clear and precise communication. All task were completed on time, there were no problem in adding minor edits or rearranging some of the already delivered milestones. The project management team was always available for discussion and helped us a lot in defining the initial product spec.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We valued their professionalism, and ability to report and deliver everything on time. They’ve developed a very clear roadmap, and let us know on every project’s advancement with the maximum result and zero delays.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Really enjoyed working with them. May be the QA process could be a bit more automated.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I used to work as a head of marketing in a small startup in software development field. We specialized on custom development in such areas as web and e-commerce development. I run a department consisted of 4 people: 3 digital-marketing managers and designer (for banners and movie production). We worked predominantly with USA clients, that can allow inner projects with budgets 70-200k $.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

Our company hired OTR to make a detailed VR visualisation of the new production facility that was still under constrtuction.

What were your goals for this project?

What we were aiming at was to receive a realistic promo material that would display the future production facility’s functionality and operational capabilities. At the same time, we wanted the final product to be visually appealing, user-friendly, and capable of engaging new investors.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’ve been looking at several companies with similar capabilities, however, we really preferred OTR’s portfolio as they’ve already had substantial experience working with technically complex solutions and equipment. We requested an offer with their initial vision of our project and quite liked what we saw.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They’ve created a full-scale VR facility simulation allowing the visitors to take a “tour” around the entire location. Based on the technical drawings, OTR rendered a detailed three dimensional VR factory model, including all of its key areas, as well as the equipment and machinery, with all of the aspects of manufacturing verified with our engineers.

Viewers could navigate the entire factory onboard of an emulated glass elevator that allowed us to have a better look at the production process and machinery configurations. They’ve also added multiple captions explaining the factory’s most crucial functionalities and operational capabilities to give a better understanding of its service and operation.

    What was the team composition?

    The team consisted of: 1) 2 C++ developers 2) 1 QA 3) 1 3-D Modelling Engineer 4) 1 PM

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

OTR’s VR simulation helped us a lot and proved to be a great marketing asset. It helped us to display something that was only about to be built in a way that could actually replicate all of its future functions. As the result, we managed to find an investor to finance the actual construction. More info under NDA.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

OTR team was always open to communication and ready to assist in everything project-wise. The communication has been always very clear and precise, every step was first discussed and then reported to us. They managed to take care of everything with practically no assistance on our end, only negotiating the most crucial aspects with our engineering department.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were really impressed by their professionalism and dedication, delivering every project stage in a timely manner. OTR not simply delivered a VR project but created an all-in-one solution perfectly fit to meet all our requirements.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Great work. Don’t really see how they can improve.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We're a software development company with a core focus on business processes automation

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

We contacted OTR for creating an immersive 360-degree angle video presentation to advertise the new vehicle during an international expo event.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed a solution that could suit for both international advertising campaigns and local marketing, as well as tell compelling stories about our brand and its history that are exciting and immersive, not just showcasing our products, but giving an insight into the production facilities, main equipment, and technological processes.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’ve done the marketing research to establish the list of vendors who were the most suitable to perform the task. After that, we shortlisted several candidates with the most extensive and impressive portfolios. OTR was our final choice while they not just had the necessary technical expertise, but they also were eager to help us with the creative concept and video scripts.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

OTR created an audience-engaging immersive presentation on the basis of 360-degree video footage and then merged it into four viewer-controlled spherical video films. There was no premade content used during this project, all video, captions, and narration were created from scratch. OTR filmed both at our new production facility to capture the entire vehicle’s production cycle and at the mining pit to showcase its operational capabilities. They added easy-to-use interactive menus to facilitate the navigation and assisting in the illusion that the visitors were a part of the story. They also expanded how viewers could interact with videos by introducing captions and infographics explaining the main aspects of vehicle’s production and operation.

    What was the team composition?

360 Video Team (3), Experience Designer, Concept Artist, CG Artist, Unity Developer, Sound Designer, QA Engineer

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We actually received what we were looking for, namely, an immersive advertising tool to be used during an international exhibition to fully display our new vehicle’s capabilities without having to transport it to another continent. Therefore, the implementation of this solution helped to reduce both marketing and transportation costs more than twice while boosting effectively the new product’s sales.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Really enjoyed their forward-thinking approach, with a clearly defined path to the final result. During all stages, they managed to deliver every task on time and on budget. The communication was always precise and clear, with a wrap-up meeting to assess the intermediary success of every stage (footage, editing, development, etc.).

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We enjoyed working with them a lot thanks to both their expertise and the ability to tackle efficiently every task they had in front of them. Great creative ideas, immaculate technical skills, and speedy communication — all resulting in a top-notch project.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

The mission of our company is to arouse interest in Belarusian mythology by means of contemporary art and VR. We stage exhibitions of sculptures "Old Heroes – A New World" all over Belarus. I'm a founder and CEO of the project.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

We asked OTR to create an immersive infotainment-style VR game based on the folk tales and mythology with a strong educational focus.

What were your goals for this project?

Our aim was to create an immersive educational project capable of teaching the younger audiences about mythology characters and legends in an easy-to-digest and entertaining manner.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’ve considered a couple of developers having similar expertise, yet in the end, we decided to stick with OTR due to a much more attractive cost-to-quality ratio.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Their team was responsible for all the project’s stages, from drafting the initial tech specs to the end result. The final product's been a narrative VR game designed for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets, set in photorealistic surroundings.

One of the main features of the project is that the players can interact with multiple objects as well as other characters to progress further in the game storyline, while each NPC’s behavior’s based on an individual pattern.

Another key requirement was the game engine's ability to simulate real-world physics, like objects responsive to touch, breakable items, and similar features, resulting in engaging educational gameplay.

    What was the team composition?

    2 developers (C# and Unity), 2D illustrator, 2 3D illustrators

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The game’s performed even better than it was supposed to, namely, it has attracted more visitors to our project and has served as an engaging entertaining means of educating some of our younger audiences on folk mythology, i.e. since the game’s release the visitors’ count has increased by 40% and still keeps going up.

What’s more, according to players’ interview results, the game has proven to be a much more powerful tool in terms of information retention level that has gone up since the game release from 30% to 80% compared to the traditional edutainment tools.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The entire communication was fun, OTR was always open to any suggestions and storyline edits we had during the whole development stage. And we got all our questions answered in no time.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Really impressed by OTR’s ideas and expertise — they clearly know what they are doing. What’s more, they’ve managed to finish the whole thing within just 16 weeks.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Nothing to improve on our project. Just keep up the great work.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

Our company develops solutions for the aviation and transport industry. I am Head of IT Department.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

Our company asked them to develop a detailed fully immersive VR elevator simulator to showcase our new product to our clients.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to demonstrate the entire scope of possible configurations of our elevator cabs without traveling to our showroom or to finished facilities. We were looking for the final solution to be fully scalable and adjustable for multiple products’ presentation.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’ve been choosing among several VR development companies, however, the solutions they offered us did not fully meet our requirements, while OTR managed to come up with just what we’ve been looking for with pretty reasonable delivery times.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

The final project is the elevator simulator designed for both VR headsets and special controllers allowing for 6 degrees of freedom. OTR has recreated multiple locations on the basis of the real-life buildings (already equipped with our elevators). They’ve developed a highly realistic simulation of different cabins’ types and sizes. One of our favorite options is the solution’s easy customization, with multiple variants of wall color, button type, adding and replacing multiple accessories, adjustable lighting, and more. Changing configuration is fast and easy, our sales team can do it on their own with no technical assistance required. It’s also possible to shoot the video of the entire simulation right as you go and share it with just a single click.

    What was the team composition?

VR Experience Designer, Concept Artist, CG Artist (2), Lightning Artist, Unity Developer (2), Sound Designer, QA Engineer

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

They helped us to take a great head start with our new product line. Customers can now get a better view of the final product long before we’ve actually designed it, let alone made it. The customization helps us to adjust to their requirements in no time. All that combined has really boosted sales conversion rates almost twice.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project managers were always there when we needed them. They helped us a lot at the initial planning and spec drafting stages, transferring our ideas into a list of specific requirements for them to implement. They were ok with the last-minute edits and still managed to deliver a great outcome

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The best thing about OTR is that they actually care for literally every smallest detail. They didn’t just concentrate on the technical aspects but also added great cinematic visuals, recreated everything from elevator buttons to flooring patterns. And the VR immersion is outstanding.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not that we can think of. We received exactly what we’d been looking for.

I’m the director at a 360-degree film company in VR, and we also make some VR applications.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with OTR?

We had a client request development of a helicopter training VR simulator. Our client wanted the simulator to train their pilots. They needed not only the software part of the VR solution but also a hardware platform with all of the tools pilots use for flying helicopters.

It was quite a challenging request for us. We decided to find a vendor who would do the job for us.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

OTR covered the full development cycle from the design and concept to the end product. Together we discussed the requirements and OTR suggested a solution that fit our client’s requirements.

They created a hardware platform that has a hemispherical screen so that users don’t need to have their headsets and have a screen that is similar to what pilots see in the helicopter. They developed all the buttons and embedded it in the platform to fly the helicopter.

They simulated it to a real-world terrain model where pilots can fly and train their skills. There is a smart collision system and several training scenarios that allow pilots to experience different flying options. They built both the hardware platform and the VR portion of it.

    What is the team composition?

There were about five developers, three designers, and we worked mostly with their project manager and CTO.

How did you come to work with OTR?

Our most important criteria was finding a company that could implement the project. We needed a vendor who could do the hardware platform and had expertise with helicopter documentation — it was a really complicated project.

We found three companies that were able to do those things. We chose OTR because they provided a better portfolio. They showed they were experienced enough to develop the project. The pricing was good as well.

How much have you invested with them?

    We spent $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from October 2018–October 2019.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They delivered a really good solution and our client was happy. They told us that the helicopter simulator is very useful and helps them cut costs significantly for training pilots. They don’t need to spend money on helicopters and technicians and it really helps to train new pilots.

How did OTR perform from a project management standpoint?

I communicated with the project manager and the CTO. They used good project management software so we could see what they were doing and their deliverables. We could see all of the progress online. They were able to implement our feedback into the platform, too.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very flexible and operated quickly. Their team adapted to the requirements and feedback we gave them and we had a good experience. Their work was on a high level.

Are there any areas they could improve?

    No, everything was good.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’ll ask a lot of questions. If we had given them high-quality requirements at the start, they could have delivered the final solution faster.

A reliable vendor, OTR has been a good partner to work with. Although their strong attention to detail sometimes leads to project delays, the team regularly offers suggestions on how to enhance the solution they developed.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

    BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the business director of a VR technology company based in Minsk. The primary focus of the company is location-based enterprise VR. We have a local VR entertainment club in Minsk. Because of the COVID-19 situation, we’re starting to deliver VR headsets for home entertainment.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with OTR?

We had plans to scale internationally on a franchise basis and wanted to develop valuable VR content for that purpose. We had an idea for a VR free-roam game, so we were looking for a technology vendor that could develop it for us.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

OTR served as our technical vendor and helped us with our VR free-roam game.

    What is the team composition?

I’ve only been in contact with a few key people. I talked with their project manager, the head of development, and the head of QA.

How did you come to work with OTR?

Minsk is like a little village, and there are just a few players here for VR development. We’d worked in the same building as OTR, and we got their proposal for our tender. We chose them because they offered the best price and a very good timeline for development.

How much have you invested with them?

Including all the customizations we made in 2019, the total price has been $180,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with OTR in May 2019, and the initial stage of the project ended that same year. We’re still working with them to improve the solution and to bring our product to an international enterprise level.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everything is good with OTR. They’re a reliable vendor, and we like working with them. They provide suggestions along the way on how to improve the product.

How did OTR perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly communicate in person, but we also communicate through Telegram, and we receive plans and milestones through Microsoft Project.

The suggested timeline from OTR was actually more than what we expected, but that was our fault, as it was our first time working on VR development with a vendor.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They started working with us without payment. Everything was good in general, so I can’t highlight anything in particular.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re perfectionists, and they pay attention to all of the details. However, some parts of the project took longer than they should’ve due to this.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise companies to do their homework and prepare specifications and technical tasks. It’s important to describe what you want to receive in detail. This will help bring results faster, and the results will meet expectations.

Design is a major part of the project in VR, and you need to describe it in detail. Designers should be able to understand your ideas and imagine what exactly you want to see. We had seven iterations of different designs until we got a result that fit our proposal one hundred percent.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We are SW development company. I am Executive Director.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire OTR?

We asked them to develop VR simulator of Tram for staff practising and trams selling purposes

What were your goals for this project?

The goal was to create a VR simulator for Tram drivers, so that they can train driving, handling of critical situations, be ready for unforeseen situations on the railway

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We chosen among several vendors, comparing cost, quality and relevant experience. We were surprised by the OTR quick response and level of expertise, so we decided to move on with them

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Built upon a real tram car, the VR simulator represents a solution for VR trainings that:

    • Provides the three 4K visualization channels
    • Reproduces the entire tram driving process
    • Gives a picture of an actual area for the highest possible identity

Although there were no tramlines available during the development, so OTR developed the visual identity of 27-kilometer tramways. VR for trainings made a course for tram drivers informative, user-friendly, and effective.

As for advertising, virtual reality gave us the power to provide catchy promos. Overall, OTR covered all project development milestones, from creating the tech task to optimization.

    What was the team composition?

    5 developers (C++, UE4), 3 designers, 1 Project maager, and 1 QA

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

There is a significant increase in qualified tram drivers, by 35% per month. A positive tendency is related to the training efficiency, too. Thanks to solution for VR training, it takes tram drivers less time to do the whole course (40% time-savings achieved).

Tram advertising reached a new level — as the latest models are offered by VR means now, it boosted tram sales statistics by 15%.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Everything was on a high level, they reported weekly and dilevered milestones right in time. Also, we found that communication was pretty good, as they had very clear answers to all of our questions

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are very competent in VR — the level of VR developers is very high. Also, they suggested several project improvements on the way, that we find very useful for our solution

Are there any areas for improvement?

OTR is the best vendor we ever worked with, I don't see any improvements, at least with our project
