Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m an executive at an accounting services company. We provide tax and accounting services to clients.
What challenge were you trying to address with Next Horizon Tech Solutions?
As an accounting firm, we use different data sources for various aspects of our work. We were using tax software, a personal server in-office that stores all our client’s records, and a database where clients upload their data.
We needed software that combined all of that information to quickly check what has been uploaded in the last week or so. Basically, we needed software that could do data queries and generate reports from all these sources.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Next Horizon Tech helped us with custom software development. At first, I described to them exactly what we wanted in detail, and then an assistant on our side and their team created the plan, layout, and interface. Although my assistant handled the details, I believe they used Python. They presented 2–3 different layout options for the design, and I picked the one best suited for us. I approved every step of the project and made sure it was relevant to what we needed.
They created a report generator that correlates the accounting software with the database where clients upload their documents. They also helped build a feature that sorts document types. Sometimes clients don’t classify their files appropriately, so the software determines which type it is, like an invoice or a bank statement, and aligns it with the accounting software.
The project lasted 4–5 months, and then for the following two months, they were on stand-by in case we needed assistance. At that point, our team was used to the software, so we didn’t have to call upon Next Horizon Tech as much, but they were still available to us.
What is the team composition?
This project had 3–4 teammates from Next Horizon Tech working on it, and we were in direct contact with the lead developer and the sales manager.
How did you come to work with Next Horizon Tech Solutions?
We wanted a local company, and I was able to find their information through Google. We interviewed 2–3 other developers but ultimately decided to go with Next Horizon Tech.
How much have you invested in them?
We invested around $40,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in May 2020, and the project was completed in December 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The main evidence is that it’s saved me a lot of time. Before, I had to tap into each software separately and do some manual work. The software Next Horizon Tech created consolidates everything and makes my job easier — it’s cut the time in half for me.
How did Next Horizon Tech Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
The team was efficient in creating the software, even though I didn’t have a set goal for the timeline. They were consistent about asking questions; they asked for more details when needed and provided us with options when it came to different layouts. They were proactive and good with project management. We communicated through email and phone calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We found their efficiency most impressive. They knew what they were doing and created the software we were looking for – they understood the requirements.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I haven’t worked with enough software development companies to say any areas they need to improve.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I would advise explaining your requirements in terms of timing and the software, and as long as Next Horizon Tech understands them, they’ll be able to perform really well.
