What was the scope of their involvement?
I was looking for a cradle-to-grave solution. (In this case, it's not cradle-to-grave because I hope this thing lives forever.) They have the full development of this activity from start to finish. They built the landing page and website with WordPress. The platform will be free of cost when rolled out. The revenue to the site will be driven by advertising content.
They do have their own proprietary platform. They also are masters with WordPress and BuddyPress, and all of the theme types and environments for customization. They're very well acclimated with tools.
They also helped us with marketing and branding. One of the first things that we accomplished in very short order was a brand identity. They did it very quickly and professionally. The logos and brand that we came up with are phenomenal.
There's probably six to eight individuals that we work with on a very regular basis. They do bring in additional people (subject matter experts) on specific topics when needed. They’re now acting as what I would call a truly integrated product team.
How did you come to work with NEWMEDIA?
I did a bunch of searching around. I'm in the Denver metropolitan area and wanted to stay in the area only for one reason: I am a hands-on kind of guy and wanted to save on travel costs so that I could go to their offices and visit with them on a regular basis.
I reached out to and interviewed several companies across the country. I wrote an RFP and then had three companies respond to that RFP. We then went through orals with those 3 companies, scaled down to 2, and NEWMEDIA was the one above the ground. NEWMEDIA had, in my opinion, the greatest offering for an end-to-end solution.
I also was looking for a true partnership. Out of the companies that I solicited, NEWMEDIA understood that concept right from the beginning. They knew I was looking for a partner in both creativity and in content as well as product evolution. They understood that and got it, and I did make the right choice with NEWMEDIA as my partner. They’ve already submitted, created, and added substantial value to the project that we're working on—and we're just now getting started.
How much have you invested with NEWMEDIA?
I have nothing to hide, but I don't want to give somebody a false number. It really is dependent upon the depth and detail that you want to put into a product, whether you're doing an MVP, full rollout, or an evolutionary kind of thing.
What is the status of this engagement?
We signed a contract in the last week of April and had our first meeting in the first week of May. We're looking roughly at 12-18 weeks of activity before rollout of an initial product in September, and then we’ll immediately go into the next generation. While the first product is out gaining membership and revenue from advertising, we're going to be creating the next version of that. I'm looking at this as a very long-term relationship, which is another reason why I picked NEWMEDIA.
