Transforming a cycling club into a contemporary brand that celebrates the heritage of the club
Gruppo Sportivo Avanti is a small, but established, cycling club based in Orpington, Kent. Founded in 2002, their members participate in a variety of cycling disciplines, from road racing and time trials, to cyclo-cross and other off-road categories. The target for the committee was to encourage an increase in membership, particularly amongst female riders, whilst decreasing the average age of applicants.
Approach
We combined an eclectic mix of new and old to create a brand with purpose and substance. A brand with a history and a future. An aspirational brand to inspire younger generations of cyclists, but also a brand with a sense of pride for those who helped to found it.
Strategy
We immersed ourselves in the culture of the club. We joined sportives and hosted workshops with the existing members to help define exactly what it meant to be a part of the club. Two perspectives emerged. The need to evolve into a contemporary, desirable brand to attract new members and the importance of celebrating the history and heritage of the club. This led us to the brand idea, ‘Riding Renaissance’.

Strengthening the identity of a cycling sportive founded by the GSA CC
Brief
Kentish Killer, which runs up and down Kent’s western border with Surrey is an annual Sportive run by GS Avanti. Now in its ninth year, the sportive attracts over three thousand riders brave enough to tackle the seventy mile route and the seven major climbs. The challenge was to establish the brand as one of the UK’s most popular cycling sportives both nationally and internationally.
Approach
It was always about so much more than designing an identity. Instead, we set out to infuse the sportive’s infectious spirit across everything it touched. From our research, we identified two prominent themes. Firstly, that the event had a festival-esque atmosphere, with such a variety of people coming together to ride the route. Secondly, that the route is extremely challenging and definitely not for the faint-hearted. We based the identity on an amalgamation of the two.
Strategy
The best way for us to get an idea of the culture at the event was for us to take part ourselves.
We spoke to lots of people, from volunteers and stewards to the organisers and the riders themselves, some of whom were riding for their ninth time and others for their first. A series of informal interviews on the day helped us to define what the sportive was all about.

Creating a different kind of events agency for the Professional Services sector
Brief
Hudson Webb are an events start-up operating in the Professional Services sector. With an already saturated marketplace, the challenge was to create a brand that stood out from the crowd and which could quickly establish itself as a more attractive alternative to the existing competition.
Insight
From our research, we identified that the current marketplace was full of huge, global giants or smaller, faceless companies, which lacked industry recognition. From grand, empty statements and over-board marketing waffle to cliché stock imagery and wonderfully abstract logos, there came a sense of ambiguity and coldness, which we thought was odd for an industry so human-centric by nature.
Brand strategy
By creating a brand that talked to its audience with personality and directness, we could cut through the noise of the existing landscape. We built our strategy around the brand idea, 'Say It Straight' and both verbally and visually communicated a fuss-free, conversational ethos. A business run by people, for people.

For what projects/services did your company hire Module Studio, and what were your goals?

I am Operations Director and one of the founders at Tonic Collective, a boutique marketing agency. Tonic Collective is a formidable team of experts across brand, events, digital, content marketing, media, PR and creative design and CRM. We hand pick the expertise required to provide tailored solutions for our clients, and have specialism in automotive, luxury and real estate.
For what projects/services did your company hire Module Studio?
We have been trading since 2015 and during that time we have evolved and refined our positioning, ways of working and approach to client requirements. We wanted to encapsulate the essence of our unique Tonic approach with a new brand and website that captured that.
What were your goals for this project?
Create a brand and website that reflected the breadth and depth of our experience in a way that would resonate with our client base and prospective new clients. Ultimately we wanted to showcase our work and attract new business.
How did you select Module Studio?
I have worked with Module Studio for many years, and have always been impressed by their creativity and positive can-do attitude so they were our first choice when we decided to have a brand refresh and new website.
Describe the project in detail.
As well as a new brand and website, we wanted to create a tone of voice for Tonic as well as defining our values and culture. So we started with a workshop to really get to the heart of our brand, our essence and what makes us tick. This really set the framework to create the new brand, website look and feel, copy and tone. We provided a lot of the content for case studies, and images, but the main copy, layouts and flow was created by Module. What stands out for us are the little bits of genius that link our new brand with the website navigation; we have a dot icon that moves around the page with navigation to link content and connects our brand to the website in a subtle but unmistakable Tonic way.
What was the team composition?
Our main point of contact was the project manager who kept us regularly up to date and on track with timelines and content requirements from our side. We also had contact with the team of designers and web developers to discuss specific details around layouts and navigation. Quite often with real time changes being made and updated as we input into the process.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Around the time of our new brand and website launch, the country went into lockdown with Covid-19. So our anticipated new business push was stalled, however, having our new website and brand still gave us the perfect opportunity to rekindle old contacts and make new ones. Despite the restrictions, being able to showcase our work in such a professional manner has resulted in a pipeline of new projects, and even opened doors to some opportunities that would have been unobtainable in the past!
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
When a project is as personal as a brand and website that reflects not only the business, but you as individuals, it can be difficult not to get too caught up in the tiny details. Module were always on hand to answer questions and give guidance, and handled our micro managing with diplomacy and efficiency. They would listen to all our comments and suggestions, guiding and steering us towards the right decisions.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Module Studio are the perfect combination of agility, creativity and professionalism, as well as being a great bunch of people to work with! Overall their drive to create the very best work and ensure you, the client, is happy, is their most impressive and endearing quality.
Are there any areas for improvement?
No, not really, nothing that stands out... the good qualities outshine everything else!

Please describe your company and your position there.
Howard Kennedy LLP is a London based, full-service law firm, specialising in providing straightforward legal advice to entrepreneurial businesses and individuals on domestic and international matters. My position in Head of Marketing & Communications.
For what projects/services did your company hire Module Studio?
When I joined Howard Kennedy they had done some work on the brand proposition but their visual identity didn't reflect it. I had previously worked with the team at Module so I knew they'd be able to help us tie it all together and deliver a full rebrand for the firm.
What were your goals for this project?
To update and align our visual identity to reflect the newly defined brand proposition. To engage with key stakeholders to be excited and proud of the Howard Kennedy brand. To ensure every touchpoint had a consistent brand feel to it.
How did you select Module Studio?
I'd work with them before so I knew that not only were they a great bunch of creatives but that the quality they delivered was really high. Although I knew them, they had to come and pitch to the management committee and a groups of senior partners at the firm. There were two other agencies that pitched. Module blew them out the water with their designs.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
This was a mammoth project. The first stage was to create the brand toolkit. This then had to be applied to every single touchpoint - the list was in the 100's. Module did this in sprints. Finally they created a very detailed brand guidelines document for us and support on the internal roll out and engagement.
What was the team composition?
We had a day to day project manager and a lead designer. We met with both of those regularly. I don't doubt there were many others behind the scenes but to keep it straightforward for us we only dealt with two.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The rebrand was a huge success both internally and externally. We were shortlisted for Best Rebranding Campaign at the Citywealth Brand Management and Reputation Awards 2020.
There were no complaints or moans internally which was a MIRCLE. Externally it has provided us with the building blocks to raise our profile and communicate with our clients in an impactful way.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
I cannot tell you how many balls to juggle and plates to spin (at the same time) this rebrand had... but we would never have known from Module that this was the case. They were calm, communicated clearly, and managed expectations very well. The feedback throughout the project was really collaborative and open.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Their quality and creativity are really impressive. Neither suffered to achieve the other. They felt part of our team. They invested in our people and built longstanding relationships across the board.
Are there any areas for improvement?
I honestly can't think of anything!

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of an arts management consultancy business that’s been going on for over 20 years. We work across the cultural sector in theaters, galleries, museums, art centers, orchestras, and film.
Our company provides diverse services, including strategic and business planning, organizational reviews, audience development, and a lot of feasibility studies for new cultural buildings. We employ people on a project-by-project basis and according to specific skills required by the client’s brief, be it fundraising expertise, property development support, or other work areas.
We mainly do business in the UK, but we also do some work internationally; we are like a one-stop-shop for arts organizations looking or going through change processes. Module Studio has been a key partner in this process.
What challenge were you trying to address with Module Studio?
I’ve worked with Module Studio for many years. They have supported my company in various ways, but the primary work they’ve done involves web development and management.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Over the years, Module Studio has provided design, website structure, and management services. They built a WordPress website from scratch and also handle site management.
They recently helped us with an exciting initiative we launched in November – an online arts journal for creative practitioners. We worked closely with Module Studio over the last 4–5 months; they developed the whole infrastructure and trained its team to deliver the project. We discussed closely with their team how we can move this art journal forward.
For the arts journal, their team has provided media, such as films, documentaries, high-class quality photographs, audios, and text, to engage with a wider creative audience.
What is the team composition?
I don’t know how many people are involved behind the scenes, but we’ve dealt with three people at any one time.
How did you come to work with Module Studio?
I knew Module Studio’s director when he was at another company that I used to employ when I was at another job. We stayed in touch, and when he set up his studio, I was keen to work with him.
How much have you invested in them?
I don’t know exactly what we spend with Module Studio annually, but it’s less than $10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them at the beginning of 2004, and a lot of our work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
It’s been enjoyable working with their team. I receive comments from people in the cultural sector who really like what they do. Module Studio puts a lot of care into their work, and that is reflected in the positive feedback and reception.
Since we’ve been time-constrained, we haven’t done any metrics or evaluation work for the art journal. It’s also a bit too soon, but there’s been strong anecdotal evidence from colleagues, and we are pushing the project forward.
They are a creative and responsible team, committed to helping deliver the product, which we really value.
How did Module Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
What is important for us with Module Studio is that they are always there when an issue or a technical crisis arises. We typically communicate by phone or email, and they are always very responsive.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The most impressive part of Module Studio is that the team at the top of the organization has remained constant and attentive for a long time. We've been able to build up a close relationship.
Their team has taken a lot of time to understand my business, do data analysis, and compare it to our competitors while providing creative solutions on how to communicate what we do in the marketplace. Module Studio is always able to deliver, and we´ll continue to work very closely with them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
A few years ago, we had a problem with the quality of some design work, as perhaps some of the designers they hired lacked the right experience. This was addressed, and it is no longer a problem; they’ve been very receptive to our concerns.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
For any company thinking about working with Module Studio, my advice would be to look at their range of work on their portfolio and talk to some of their clients to get a real feel of how they work.

Image Sourcing & SEO for Language Solutions Company
"Their project management process has always been perfect and most of the time, it exceeds expectations."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the managing director of One Stop Language Solutions, a London-based translation and interpreting company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Module Studio?
I've decided to have a brand new website and I started the project with my designer who I’ve been working with for many years. However, for some reason, after the global pandemic happened, we were stuck because we couldn’t find the right images that we wanted to convey.
The images I had for my homepage were based on in-person meetings and were no longer applicable. We only had the texts ready. As a result, we hired Module Studio to source the images we needed.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The Module Studio team started by sourcing images for my website, specifically for my header. They came up with five different ideas, and we had a slider with different images. Then, whenever we ended up choosing something, we also analyzed the color palette during that process.
Furthermore, we had some requirements for LinkedIn Showcase Pages, but then I decided not to go ahead with it. We’ve also been sending newsletters to them. Once they receive it, they look for errors and contacts us straight away. David (Director) has since given a solution to that.
They also made recommendations for a six-month SEO campaign that involves speeding up pages, backlinking, and performing competitor analysis. Then, just a few weeks ago, Module Studio started spearheading the implementation of some changes on our platforms such as sourcing new images for our homepage and Google My Business page.
What is the team composition?
They’ve got a team, but I’ve always been liaising with Sabrina (Studio Manager) and David.
How did you come to work with Module Studio?
I was talking with a client of mine, and they suggested getting in touch with Module Studio. I initially contacted Sabrina who was very friendly. Then, when we booked a call, we started having a relationship with David.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent £2,000–£2,500 (approximately $2,700–$3,400 USD)
What is the status of this engagement?
The partnership started in June 2020, and it’s ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I’m very pleased with the services that they've provided. David has been instrumental in taking the website to the next level in terms of sourcing new images. I was stuck in terms of colors, color palettes, and more. However, thanks to his help, I’ve implemented the changes that I wanted.
Since the launch of the website, I haven't received any requests, but it’s not their fault. It’s partly due to us not driving traffic to the site and we have no Google campaigns — or main SEO activities conducted.
How did Module Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management process has always been perfect and most of the time, it exceeds expectations. They deliver on time and are very quick to provide cost estimates.
Additionally, their communication has always been on point, and we have frequent catch-up calls. We also have Skype calls, which has enabled us to establish a relationship based on trust. For documents, we use Google Docs a lot and I see their progress there.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their willingness to help distinguishes them from other providers. David is committed, friendly, proactive, and very hands-on. For example, if I have a problem or something I want to change, he can do it straight away. Above all, David is always ready to meet our demands.
Are there any areas they could improve?
To be honest, I haven’t found any negative about them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?

AccountsCo is a firm of UK Chartered Accountants, Chartered Tax Advisors & Registered Auditors that specialise in helping international businesses operate in the UK
For what projects/services did your company hire Module Studio, and what were your goals?
Our main challenge was to refresh our brand and create an up-to-date professional web-site. In addition we wanted to increase our social reach.
How did you select Module Studio and what were the deciding factors?
We spoke to a number of firms and received a number of quotes. We chose Module because they had experience in our sector and because their team seemed very collegiate. We felt we were embarking on a relationship rather than an assignment.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
The scope of work was to analyse our brand and come up with ideas on how to improve it. Then the team designed and built the web-site (WordPress ML). They also provided a lot of assistance with social media and provided training on how to use the web-site, Hootsuite and various other tools.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Its hard to say how many people worked on the site. We had meetings with up to four people but most of the work was co-ordinated by one person.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We have a great web-site and a good relationship with a top tier partner. Overall it was a very good result.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.
Module is quite relaxed but very in control. Everything they do is professional.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They are happy to pick up the phone when called and work with you for a solution. They are not in it to make a quick buck. Instead they take pride in their work and want to create a relationship.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
