Growing the Abide App into a Category Leader
There are always ups and downs in User Acquisition campaigns - but when a down-trend sticks around for a while and shows no signs of improving, it can sometimes represent a threat to an app's existence. For Abide, a Christian app focused on meditation, sleep help, and Bible stories that strengthen one's relationship with Christ, a performance downtrend was starting to become a major concern.
Abide contracted Moburst to run a media campaign focused on driving an increase in subscriptions at a high ROI and reducing their cost per subscription by 70% to ensure a positive ROI for the client.
At Moburst, we had to think on our feet, adapt to rapid industry changes, and align with the client on the best approach to measure long term success. Through collaboration, innovative approaches, and a comprehensive strategy that encompassed paid media, creative, influencers, and an app audit, Moburst was able to deliver incredible results for Abide.

UX/UI Design for Mobile Gaming Company
“Moburst is very professional, and they’ve performed excellently on everything.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the senior director of VIP and customer support at Playtika, a mobile gaming company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed help with the UX/UI design of a new customer support portal for one of our clients.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Moburst has created the UI/UX designs we needed. Initially, we had a brainstorming session to address our client’s needs and review how they wanted the solution to look. Then, they provided us with some mockups they made on InVision, and we iterated on those to make some corrections and changes.
After that, the rest of the project has gone smoothly. They’ve already provided us with the final designs, which they created using Adobe. Now, our internal team is in charge of implementing them.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with some designers from Moburst, and they’ve been part of the meetings, but we don’t communicate with them directly.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
Moburst was referred to us. We evaluated a few companies that came up with different creative ideas, but we saw that Moburst provided the most efficient and exciting suggestions for the project.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent less than $50,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Thanks to Moburst’s designs, we can definitely see an improvement in our platform’s UI/UX.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Moburst is very professional, and they’ve performed excellently on everything. We usually communicate via Zoom.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Moburst’s work in defining projects is very detailed. They excel at doing market research and coming up with creative ideas. Additionally, they’re very knowledgeable regarding project execution.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Given that Moburst is very knowledgeable, it would be good if they pushed their ideas more instead of relying on the client’s ideas. Sometimes, they’ve changed direction based on our ideas, but we’ve realized that their input is usually better due to their experience.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Go for it — you’ll be happy working with them.

ASO & Digital Marketing for Mobile Gaming Company
"They impressed me quite a lot with a few things I didn’t know, even though we are in the same profession."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We are a mobile gaming company with a few very big titles in the mid-core and hardcore genres. I lead the App Store Optimization (ASO) work in the company, and I manage all the titles that we have.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed outsourced help with three distinct services. We asked them to help us with keyword optimization for our titles in the stores, creative design for store galleries, and influencer marketing. For the final service lines, we were researching different agencies to help us reach out to influencers.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They reviewed two of our biggest titles, performed keyword research for the titles, and recommended which text to put in both the App Store and Google Play Store so that we could increase our organic reach. That project lasted several months as we had a few iterations.
In parallel to that, they designed screenshot galleries with us. They created new galleries for the store designs, which we used to test in the store.
The third project was influencer marketing, which is not a part of my team so I can’t give a specific opinion about that. Once there was engagement and the influencer marketing kicked into play, we forwarded it to the respective people.
What is the team composition?
I worked with the ASO lead, the CRO lead who managed all of the gallery creative asset optimizations, and the creative lead who, is in charge of the whole design team.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve spent roughly $30,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
It started around February 2021. We started with the ASO, then the creative design and testing, and then the influencer marketing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The purpose of the initial engagement was to increase the organic reach through keyword optimization, which we did quite successfully. Moburst pinpointed the right keywords to focus on, and then they helped us achieve a higher ranking for these keywords, resulting in more downloads for these keywords by reinventing the meta-assets, including the description, title, and algorithmically relevant store assets. They did it in a thorough, meticulous way that we couldn’t do in-house because we don’t have the people necessary.
The second task was creating the screenshot gallery based on the hypothesis that our internal research team gave them. Our team here researched what kind of core motivations players have and Moburst built two distinct galleries based on that information. We tested those against each other and against the current gallery, and they were a lot better than the current gallery. This effort was a very interesting and positive experience because they managed to take the insights that our research team had and translate them into visuals that worked better. The engagement with the creative lasted another two months approximately.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
The experience with them was very positive, and everything was top-notch. The service, speed, and communication were all good. I can’t say that there is anything bad to report here. I know how to work with agencies, and they know how to work with gaming companies, so everything went very smoothly.
For communication tools, it depended on which part of the project we were in and which team we were working with. We used Asana for project management and Slack overall. When we did the ASO, we used Slack to pass the materials back and forth, as I needed to involve my brand team to approv the text. When we talked about the creative and visuals, we used Slack and Asana because the projects were a little more complicated and we needed more assets to be delivered back and forth. Occasionally, I talked to the project managers on WhatsApp, but that was just me and them.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I would say that their strengths are being meticulous and very up to date with the industry trends. They knew many things that we didn’t. It is their job to be on top of things all the time, and they did that. They impressed me quite a lot with a few things I didn’t know, even though we are in the same profession.
They are also very service-oriented, and they make sure that the work is not just about being professional, but also about being service-oriented. Whenever we needed something, we got a quick response, even if it wasn’t always urgent. They always made sure that we felt confident about their response in a timely manner
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, not in the scope of our engagement. I remember that I also talked to the influencer marketing lead here, and she was very positive about continuing with them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Come with an open mind. They sometimes have out-of-the-box ideas that need to be explored with an open mind. For example, testing icons is something that many companies are very hard with because an icon is the brand identity. Their team does have interesting insights and we do use them. I am glad to say that it proved to be a good decision.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder and CMO of Evmux, a live streaming software company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed a company that could handle our social media marketing efforts and help us increase our conversion rate.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We hired Moburst to help us with our social media marketing efforts. Their main responsibilities include developing, launching, and managing campaigns on social media. They create content such as static images, videos, and copy for our website, campaigns, and social media posts.
Aside from that, they also help us find influencers to partner with for our campaigns. They’re tasked with setting up contracts with influencers and managing them. They’ve also helped us optimize our site’s content to help us further increase our conversion rate.
What is the team composition?
We work with 5-7 people, which include a project manager, copywriters, graphic designers, and videographers from Moburst.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
We came across Moburst through a referral.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent somewhere between $100,000-$150,000 so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in November 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve definitely seen an increase in our social media awareness and conversion rates.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Moburst has performed very well in terms of project management. We have shared documents that we use to track their tasks and deliverables, and we typically communicate through Slack, email, phone calls, and video conferences.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Moburst is a true professional and expert in their field. They know how to utilize their knowledge to guide my company in the right direction and to help us achieve our goals. I also appreciate how attentive and responsive they are and how well they take care of me.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t think there’s anything they could have done better.

SEO & Social Media Marketing for Food Technology Company
“They provide an impressive suite of services that are truly in sync with each other.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the digital marketing manager at Redefine Meat, a food technology company based in Israel founded in 2018.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed Moburst’s help to improve our digital presence.
What was the scope of their involvement?
At the start of our collaboration, Moburst built a landing page for us. They also worked on our SEO and link-building strategy needs; the team also did research on other food technology and meat companies. They gave us an overview of the industry before beginning their work.
Moburst has also worked on our social media campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Together, we’ve built our activation plan and strategy that details how many posts we will push out and who our target audience is — we’ve essentially planned the entire funnel for our social media.
At present, they do campaign optimization tasks. While working on our social media accounts, they work on optimizing our content and introducing our brand to various audiences. We work closely with them to find the right audience for each social media platform. We also use them for planning, budgeting, and executing all of our campaigns.
What is the team composition?
We work with an account manager, who serves as my main point of contact. I also have dedicated meetings with their social media and development teams.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
Moburst was already working with our company when I joined. However, our founder let me decide whether I wanted to continue with them or seek another organization. I was pleased with how closely Moburst wanted to work with us as we built our digital ecosystem, along with our branding and marketing activities. Simply put, they were a good match for our growth, so we continued our relationship.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in May 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
To measure success, we track the conversion of our B2B and B2C leads as we enrich our database. We’re also tracking several KPIs related to brand building and digital marketing, such as conversion rates, CTR, cost per click, and others.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Moburst’s project management is great. They use their own platforms for project management, but we only use Slack to communicate with them.
What did you find most impressive about them?
When it comes to digital communication, we need to consider many aspects, such as content, media, and assets. What makes Moburst so unique is that they provide an impressive suite of services that are truly in sync with each other. Their resources also work well together to give us fast results. Since we’re a startup, we’re still agile — and we need a truly agile partner like Moburst.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They’re highly tech- and conversion-oriented, but they don’t have much experience in the food industry. To be fair, they’ve gained some experience in our industry after working with us for over a year.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be precise about your needs and priorities.

App Store Optimization for Investing & Trading Company
“Moburst’s organization is impressive.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the mobile project manager at Evest, an investing and trading company. I manage the paid and organic growth of our mobile app within all of the global markets, and I’m in charge of our partnerships. I’m also in charge of the new UI of our new mobile app that’s going to launch in 2022.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed app store optimization (ASO) services for Android and iOS.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Moburst has helped us promote our app wisely and organically, managing every promotion channel for both iOS and Android. They’re not only focusing on organic traffic, but they’re now promoting our app through paid channels.
We’re developing new strategies and adding new promotion channels to our partnership. Currently, they also create content for the ads, do keyword research, and help us with all the planning. Additionally, they will manage a new Apple search channel to bring us new traffic and more targeted clients.
What is the team composition?
We work with Sharon (Head of Organic) and a campaign manager who manages all of our Apple Search Ads (ASA).
How did you come to work with Moburst?
I found Moburst through the previous company that I used to work at. They had provided us with a very solid service then. When I started working here, I wanted a company with a very successful work record, so I brought them in.
As this was a new app, its information was very sensitive. Thus, I decided to work with a professional and organized company like them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent over $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since launching our app in April 2021, we’ve seen over 15,227 organic installs and 10,468 non-organic installs. Additionally, Moburst has shared screenshots with us of keywords that have raised us to the top 10 apps in our category.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Moburst is very organized with the tools they’re using. We use Appfire to track our results, and they use an ASO tool called Uptick to track other metrics as well.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Moburst’s organization is impressive.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. They’re very professional and organized.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I recommend talking with Sharon first. She’s very professional, organized, and patient.

App Store Optimization for Cloud Storage Company
"They're really good at leveraging new technologies and best practices to stay ahead of the curve."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
Our company is one of the leading providers of cloud storage in the US. I lead the marketing efforts for our mobile business and I'm responsible for everything from deciding what mobile products to build, how to grow them, and how to drive for their adoption and usage.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We needed to grow our top-of-funnel and acquire new users for our mobile app, so we hired Moburst.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Moburst advises us on two key workstreams. The first is with our paid search initiatives where we figure out the right channels — such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and media-buying partners — where we could acquire new users. Moburst is in charge of managing all of our media, making sure that we’re spending our budget efficiently to achieve our goals and that we’re able to hit our revenue targets from the trials we run.
On the organic search side, Moburst helps us with optimizing metadata and expanding that into international markets. This covers Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) so they optimize our screenshots, videos, and other associated assets in order to drive improved conversion rates on our landing pages. The team also helps us manage our presence on the App Store and Google Play to drive increased organic traffic.
In terms of deliverables, Moburst assists us with our media plans and builds all of our creative assets, like our ads and preview videos on app stores. They are now in the process of producing videos for TikTok and Instagram. They also help us manage the business in terms of delivering quarterly business plans and ad hoc analyses to the leadership team.
What is the team composition?
There are around 15–20 people on this project and we work with all types of folks from Moburst. We interact with their CEO, head of media, account managers, directors, and the like.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
When we saw an opportunity to accelerate our mobile growth, I knew that we couldn't do that internally because we lacked specialized knowledge and expertise. I started searching for the best companies to work with, and Moburst consistently appeared as a top agency on the various websites I checked. I also heard about them from other clients, so I already knew of them from that.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent $1 million–$2 million so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started the partnership in February 2021 and we’re still working with them.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Within the first six months of our engagement with Moburst, we’ve scaled our media spend by 5x and improved our ROI by 2x. In general, we’ve been able to reduce the cost for trial by 30%. We’ve seen amazing results for a relatively new campaign.
Moburst has also helped us a lot with the app store optimization. We’ve ranked among the top five results for many keywords, which has definitely driven our business, improved our top-of-funnel, and turned our growth trend around.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Generally, Moburst has done a good job of defining the strategy. They usually take the first stab at it and then we would provide feedback to improve it and make it more aligned with our business. It’s a collaborative effort.
They have a really great account management team that facilitates the project, makes sure they’re delivering on time, and manages the expectations. Everything goes very smoothly with their team. We use our preferred internal platform for managing the project, but we communicate via Zoom and email.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Moburst Does an amazing job of staying on top of the latest trends. They're really good at leveraging new technologies and best practices to stay ahead of the curve. It's clear that they have solid experience and a finger on the pulse of the industry.
Are there any areas they could improve?
My only feedback is with regards to the communication. There’s a bit of a delay since a large part of their team is based in another country. They do, however, have a team that’s based in the country that coordinates details and communication between us, and I think that they’re managing it as best they could.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Invest a lot of time in the onboarding process to familiarize Moburst with your customers, unique selling points, competitors, and positioning. It pays to have them really understand your brand guidelines, message, and verbiage. The initial briefing usually takes a lot of work to pull together, but the more robust your onboarding, the more fruitful results you will yield.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CMO of Important, an app that helps stop self-driving cars from crashing into users.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We wanted to get some initial users and to find out what messaging works to acquire users.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, Moburst helped us identify what we were going to do, how we were going to do it, how we were going to measure it, and what the results would be from a great campaign. They set up, ran, and optimized the campaign, and they set up the tracking for us.
They did the creative, looked at the brand performance and the medium we would be using, and then they created different graphics, static images, carousel ads, videos, polls, and Instagram stories.
They did the media buying, which involved optimizing weekly what we were doing and making sure that we had the best performance on each network. They worked on the total strategy for helping us get the right message, format, and channels, and they optimized the business strategy.
What is the team composition?
I’ve worked with Jonathan (User Acquisition & Partnerships Manager) and Gilad (Founder & CEO).
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent close to $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them from July–October 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Moburst managed to reduce our cost of acquisition by over 200% over the course of the campaign. They created a good framework for which messaging would work for each specific market, and they provided us with enough information to create a well-structured budget and forecast moving forward.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management was excellent. Everything we asked them to do, they delivered on or ahead of time and on budget. They were great at managing the project, giving feedback and suggestions, and reporting exactly what we needed to have.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The team had a deep understanding of what we wanted to achieve and made sure that they met our business objective beyond the detail of the campaign.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I have no suggestions.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be transparent with your objectives.

Media Buying & Creative for Mobile Rewards Shopping Company
“The overarching theme here is they do a great job, and everyone should hire them.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a mobile app company for shoppers.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
We use Moburst to do app install buying, media buying, and a lot of creative work. We had a bunch of high-salary employees that were in charge of this, but they weren’t as efficient, creative, and knowledgeable as we needed them to be. We were looking for an agency to take over, and that’s how we found Moburst.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Moburst provides an extensive list of services. They do media buying and all of our creatives for that media buying. They also do all of the descriptions, media, and ASO (App Store Optimization) for both app stores. Their team does some product stuff, such as our onboarding flow and verbiage across the app.
What is the team composition?
We work with a team at Moburst. Lior (Co-Founder & COO) and Gilad (Co-Founder & CEO) are on pretty much every call; they’re very hands-on and technical. They make presentations and answer our questions.
We also work with an account manager and their direct reports. A lot of people are involved, but that’s a good thing because it means they’re deep in the weeds with us, which is helpful.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
I don’t remember; it could’ve been a referral. However, I’m very happy that we found them.
How much have you invested with them?
In terms of media buying, they’re handling about $250,000–$300,000 each month. They charge around 10–15% of that. Then, I get additional packages on top of that, such as helping with creative.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our work began around October 2019, and it’s ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Their impact has been extremely noticeable across the spectrum, from the media buying side of things to crushing some of our key KPIs. They’ve driven our CPI (cost per installs) and CPA (cost per activation) costs way down and increased the discoverability of our app within the app stores pretty dramatically, which is a big improvement. They have also increased a lot of stuff on the product end for us through data findings.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
We’re working on a lot of projects with them, so we have weekly meetings and then some meetings on top of those that can be more technical and in-depth if necessary. They also track everything through the project management software Asana, which is really helpful.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re really personable and intelligent. They can easily explain things that are very technical to non-technical people, which is key to me. The overarching theme here is they do a great job, and everyone should hire them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, not really.
Any advice for potential customers?
I recommend letting Moburst get in the weeds. Give them everything they need upfront and let them sift through things so that they can make the most informed decisions. They know exactly what they’re doing.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the founder and product manager of Vevivo Limited. We are creating a social networking application. We’re still a startup and haven’t launched in the market yet.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
My co-founder and I don’t have backgrounds in the app market, nor do we have experience with marketing strategies or techniques for this specific industry. We were looking for someone to educate us and give us essential information that we would need to succeed when it came time to launch.
What was the scope of their involvement?
In the few months we have been working with Moburst, they have done a lot for us, including brand analysis, competitor analysis, and color research. Our app was overwhelmingly orange and, after they researched colors, we decided to change it to more business-friendly colors. They did brand personas for our customer segments, and they helped us develop and set a core message.
They did a media buying strategy as well as very useful monetization strategies that other apps and our competitors are using in their apps, and they felt these would be a good addition to our app. Moburst also did an SEO report for us. They created plenty of marketing materials that we can use on Facebook and Instagram, and they did different variations depending on what path we might want to take.
We did a lot regarding the App Store, such as screenshot analysis, and they showed us failed examples of what we should be avoiding when creating screenshots for the App Store. We have also established a strong purchasing funnel, and we did retention strategies.
What is the team composition?
We work with Mike (Director of US Accounts). We have spoken with Gilad (Founder & CEO) a few times. We were thinking about when the best time would be to approach investors, and he has a lot of experience within the investment field. We were really anxious because we didn’t know if there would be available funds and if investors would be looking to invest in companies during the pandemic, and both Mike and Gilad were very helpful.
How did you come to work with Moburst?
My co-founder pointed them out to me. He performed a Google search for mobile growth experts. We were consulting with a local marketing agency here in Cyprus, but they aren’t exactly mobile growth experts. We were really looking for someone who knew what they were doing. We saw that Moburst has a very good track record and A-list clientele. When we contacted them for more information, they were very helpful, and we clicked with them immediately.
How much have you invested in them?
We have spent around $24,000 so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began the project in late March 2020, and we are still working with them. It has been an intense three months. During this time, the pandemic peaked here in Cyprus, so we couldn’t test the app to a wider audience. However, it worked out perfectly because it forced us to work on the company, the brand, and the app itself.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The impact has been huge. They truly helped us find our voice as a company and as a brand. They showed us how we could add true value to our customers and be different from our competitors. They helped us with research that we wouldn’t have been able to do ourselves. For example, with the SEO research, there is no way that we would have been able to do that. They really pointed out the importance of using keywords and having high rankings for the App Store. They helped us calculate the cost per install of the app, so that we can now adjust our financial model. When we approach investors, we can show them specific numbers and calculations.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
We have weekly meetings on Tuesdays, and Mike always has new material for us. That has been the high point of our week. They gave us a consulting schedule in the beginning, and we didn’t really deviate from it except for when we wanted to talk about something specific. For example, during a couple of sessions, my co-founder wanted to talk more about investors. During those times, we also spoke with Gilad, who specializes in this area. The timing has been spot on, and there haven’t been any changes that we didn’t want.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Moburst understood our brand better than we understood it. They convinced us to capitalize on my experience, which actually led me to create this app and express it to our customers. They have always been very excited about our brand and the actual product. They tested it out amongst themselves and gave us feedback on what they thought about the functionalities. We have had positive meetings every week, during which we always learn something new. After those meetings, we spend a day or two trying to implement the stuff they told us about. Every meeting has been worth it.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything off the top of my head.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Keep an open mind. A lot of people are too attached to an idea, certain functions, or a name, but it is a business world, and if you really want to succeed, you have to listen to those that know the recipe for success. This doesn’t mean completely ignoring your own beliefs or values, but just listen to them. Really think about the things that they tell you.

App Store & Conversion Optimization for TV Network
"I know Moburst has other clients, but they always made me feel like I was their number one priority."

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of digital marketing at a TV provider with 18 different networks and 18 different TV everywhere apps.
What challenge were you trying to address with Moburst?
I’m in charge of paid and partner marketing — anything related to increasing app downloads and user engagement. One of my responsibilities is app store optimization.
This means figuring out how to increase our conversions, as well as working on keyword optimization to increase daily organic traffic and downloads. I hired Moburst to help me with this.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They started off by gathering some baseline information about how our current conversion optimization was performing and how we were ranking for keywords. Afterward, the team then offered us recommendations and had us fill out a brief on our different apps and key selling points.
Moburst worked from top to bottom. The team did a lot of A/B testing, updated our keywords on a consistent monthly basis, and wrote up monthly keyword reports. They overhauled what we were doing and helped us implement best practices.
For example, they pointed out to us that we weren’t even taking advantage of all of the characters in the subtitle, or that sometimes we didn’t even have a subtitle. They really came in and gave us a blueprint of how to best utilize all of the elements to help with the conversions.
What is the team composition?
I worked with Gilad (Founder & CEO), as well as with Jonathan (User Acquisition Manager), who was later replaced by Mike (Director of US Accounts).
How did you come to work with Moburst?
Someone else in the organization recommended them. When we started talking to the other vendors, we met with Moburst and were really impressed by their client list. It was really easy to develop a relationship with them early on.
We could tell that they were very knowledgeable in their field and were going to dig in and hold our hands throughout the process. From the very beginning, we knew that they would be organized and detailed, which would make for a strong partnership.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent between $500,000–$1 million.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement began in April 2019, but we had to put the project on pause in March 2020 because of the Coronavirus.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
There’s been a lot of growth since we started working with Moburst. Within a 6-month period, we saw a 61% growth in organic keyword traffic, which was valued at about $5 million. In the first two months of 2020, we saw a 31% increase in organic traffic from December 2019.
In terms of conversion optimization, we saw a 14% increase from the creative work for a couple of our apps. We had a couple of hiccups along the way from our side. For example, we get recommendations from Moburst that we couldn’t implement.
It's been amazing to see this tremendous growth given that we weren’t able to fully execute all of the recommendations they gave us.
How did Moburst perform from a project management standpoint?
The project management was great. Everything was easy to do, and the team was organized. When we gave them feedback, they would often get back to us the next day, if not the same day, so that we could go through another round of creative, copy, or keyword review.
Moburst was very much open to feedback. There were times when we would sit on the phone and bounce ideas off of each other. The whole process was collaborative. I know Moburst has other clients, but they always made me feel like I was their number one priority.
They worked efficiently and were able to turn tasks around quickly while explaining certain aspects to us in a way that made sense. Both Gilad and Mike were incredibly smart and were able to give me digestible soundbites of the key information, which helped me when I had to relay that information to other people without expertise in this area.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were incredibly knowledgeable about every nuance. I could tell that they were truly experts in what they do because they knew the ins and outs of iOS and always knew what was happening before it happened.
Their level of expertise and willingness to share information speaks to how keen they were to educate us, knowing that we could then take that knowledge and eventually do the work ourselves. Moburst truly had our best interests at heart, even if it was a detriment to their business.
In general, I was really impressed when they would come up with concepts, pushing us to try what wasn’t the norm. The team was incredibly creative and was able to take our feedback and showcase the different ways that we could brand our apps.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There could’ve been some improvement in their understanding of the nuances of our business and industry. We took a chance on them being that they didn’t have entertainment clients like us, so there was a little bit of a learning curve for them. They had to come up to speed with our language.
It was an ongoing process, but in the future, they could try to dig in and understand the different positionings of the programmers and their brand. Nevertheless, they got there eventually.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Give them as much information as possible and be open to new ideas. One of the aspects that we struggled with was that we were so set in our ways about how we thought the apps should be. I would advise potential customers to be willing to try new things because they’re experts for a reason.
Additionally, invest in testing the conversion optimization and creative work. We spent a huge portion of our budget on testing, which I’m glad we did because we learned a lot. That’s how we were able to prove that what we thought was the norm wasn’t really leading to conversion.
