Kaiik'ìt - a mobile app for learning the Gwich’in
The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) is an Indigenous organization that represents Gwich’in Participants in the Mackenzie-Delta of the Northwest Territories and across Canada. Over the years, most of the Gwich’in population has shifted to English, which caused their heritage language to become severely endangered. Therefore, one of the GTC’s main objectives is language revitalization.
The Council seeks to achieve this goal by promoting Gwich’in in the communities, developing teaching and learning resources, and creating opportunities to speak, learn, and work using the heritage language. Wanting to diversify the instructional materials and re-ignite interest in Gwich’in, the GTC decided to build a language-learning mobile application.
With language revitalization specialists on board but no experience in software development, the Council was looking for a tech partner who’d bring their idea to life. The client sought mobile development experience and support in defining the product vision further and setting measurable goals. To empower them with both, we put together a product team composed of developers, designers, a QA specialist, a DevOps engineer, and a Project Manager.
To build the first version of Kaiik'ìt, Merixstudio took care of:
- Holding a product design workshop to define with the client the product vision and value proposition
- Running a thorough competitors’ analysis to identify industry trends and space for innovation
- Conducting user tests to best address the needs of the target audience
- Designing the application flow and UI to incorporate the cultural aspects of the Gwich’in heritage
- Building the mobile application that works both online and offline

Rosalyn - an AI-based solution
Rosalyn is an AI-powered remote assessment, proctoring, and certification platform. The company’s founders envisioned the solution with two types of users in mind: the examining bodies (including schools, universities, and commercial certifying organizations) and the examinees. Rosalyn allows the former to keep the assessment of remote tests accurate, cheating-free, and cost-effective. The latter benefit by getting the opportunity to have their hard work rewarded with a recognized certification regardless of where they’re located.
When we first met, Rosalyn was an edtech startup with proven AI and computer vision capabilities and a mission to keep assessment unbiased. They needed a tech partner who’s skilled in product design and development and knows how to tackle the pain points of early-stage ventures. Having examined our portfolio, skills, and testimonials, Rosalyn entrusted Merixstudio with the following tasks:
- Conducting the discovery workshop to draft the development roadmap,
- Providing UI designs and branding to the product,
- Developing components of a complex platform for creating, taking, and assessing examinations,
- Building a complex remote proctoring tool around the company’s AI solution,
- Suggesting optimal solutions based on our experience and expertise.
We’ve been working on the MVP since December 2019. The usefulness of Rosalyn’s concept has already been recognized, as our client raised seed round funding totaling $2.2MM from private investors in November 2020.

A mobile app raising sustainability causes
Treasure Earth is a mobile app for individuals, communities, and sustainability-oriented organizations to promote environmental problems-centered activities. Its main goal lies in encouraging acts of compassion by users to ensure their greater agency in green issues and the conservation of the Earth. With this goal in mind, the app is supposed to gather like-minded people from around the world to execute environmental change together.
The premise behind creating the app was the challenge that eco-friendly communities face today: people’s lack of agency in furthering environmental causes. Those who are sensitive to the damage done to the environment are bombarded with negative news about the effects of climate change, and even though they are acutely aware of the need to act, they find themselves effectively limited by the influx of information and too many issues worth tackling.
Therefore, the application’s goal was to provide a digital platform with which users could turn their compassion for the state of our planet into action. They would do that by engaging in introspection and eco-friendly activity. The client envisioned the product with two types of users in mind - individuals and organizations.
The company approached Merixstudio being already familiar with the referrals from our previous digital projects. The client’s stakeholders decided to engage in workshops with us to dig deeper into the specifics of the future product.

SportsHi - the React Native mobile application
SportsHi React Native mobile app is a great example of a lifestyle-driven business concept. Founded by an after-hour rugby coach living in New York, the application allows the users (Coaches and Players) to schedule their training sessions and games as well as communicate with each other. This project is also a great example of both the lean approach and agile followed development.
App founders were managing the project from their New York-based headquarters, while the development took place mainly in Merixstudio’s office in Poznań, Poland. The 6-hours difference was easily overcome by planning weekly meetups during East Coast morning hours. The daily communication was crucial, as the founding team consisted of a CTO (tech lead), who was collaborating with our Frontend, Backend, and Quality Assurance specialists. In addition to that, the UX designer was overseeing the implementation of the design from the office located in the Big Apple.

Burrow - an online marketplace for seeded startup
Burrow is the US-based, B2C e-commerce company which produces and distributes bespoke easy to build uncompromising furniture. Its mission is to create products for the way people actually live their lives. Burrow was named one of the 10 most innovative retail brands in the world by Fast Company, and one of their luxury sofas was recognized as one of the 50 best inventions of the year by TIME. This Y Combinator seeded company is growing rapidly within the near future with expansion across borders, the sky seems to be the limit.
Burrow had a strict product expansion roadmap, which meant scaling up development and the team. As recruitment locally is usually a long and strenuous process, the client sought to outsource a skilled team to ramp up the development while retaining standards.
Main challenges we were faced with:
- to help Burrow to scale up the development and team quickly,
- to engage the best engineers with specific competencies to extend the client’s in-house team,
- to significantly increase the performance of the application,
- to contribute to the launch of the application,
- to facilitate the maintenance of the codebase.
The key factors were and still are to ensure front-end design requirements are met, without impacting performance.

Volkswagen - a non-profit voting system for school
Merixstudio was responsible for developing the project from scratch covering full-fledged web development consultancy, quality assurance, software development and design services. One of the main milestones to achieve were: creating a full design for the website, implementing a bot-resistant voting system for schools (one of the ways to achieve it was integration with an SMS gateway for increased verification), allowing schools to submit applications via a website, creating a back-office panel for managing applications and voting process.
It’s worth mentioning that Szkoła Małego Inżyniera is just one of many projects that Volkswagen decided to develop with Merixstudio during our longstanding collaboration. There were, among others, websites supporting their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programmes such as “Niebieskie Granty” - a website for raising ecological awareness in local communities including advanced implementations of JavaScript, Ajax and CSS3, Google Maps API and Drupal CMS. or “Mini Handball” - a website for promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical activity with Drupal CMS and beautiful front-end JavaScript animations.

RMS - a Django-based Recital Management system
We supported The Juilliard School in building and launching an advanced Recital Management System (RMS), which helps students and school staff organize recitals.
Our role involved backend (Django) and front-end coding. In the beginning, front-end was based on the Metronic theme, but later during the project, we created new designs of RMS and implemented it into the application.
Our work in the project included integrations with external services such as Panopto (using SOAP-based integration), which is a system for scheduling recital recordings, integration of Colleague system (REST API), and integration with Performance Event Calendar previously created by us before.
We also developed a canvas-based Stage Composer application, which allows students to use front-end tool to create stage setup - either using one of the predefined settings or custom adjusted ones.
The final product requires the input of data such as selection of the stage that students wish to perform on, when and what time of day they want to do it, what instrument are they playing and how exactly the scene is supposed to look (for the last option we are creating the HTML5 based Stage Composer).
The system was also equipped with an internal notification system for students and teachers, tool to create dynamic forms and other mechanisms meant to simplify the whole process of preparing a recital.

BrandSync - a B2B cloud-based PIM platform
BrandSync is a cloud-based, PIM (Product Information Management) solution dedicated to both e-commerce and brick and mortar industries - retailers and producers that covers three major problematic aspects of distribution: gathering and processing products’ data, standardisation and unification of data for all of supply chain participants, and further data circulation (both internal and external).
The solution was a dedicated application that enables users to input to the database a precise description of their products. Combined with a great number of products in the base, it allows for a very expanded data exchange between the subjects within the supply chain.
One of the major challenges was to combine simplicity with flexibility and create as user-friendly tools as possible. The final product has a clear, intuitive interface with custom-made designs that provides the variety of functionalities and makes the high volume data management easy and effective.
Our technology stack of choice was: Angular, Django (the Python framework), and PostgreSQL. The whole app is hosted on AWS. Additional services and tools we’ve used include: RabbitMQ and Celery, Redis and Elastic. For CI/CD (Continuous Development/Continuous Integration) purposes, we’ve used Docker and Jenkins.

A leading international mobile banking application
The whole over one-year long collaboration was based on a partnership between two teams: Merixstudio’s Angular developers from Poznan, Poland and the core client’s team from Bratislava, Slovakia. We kicked off the project with a 4-day onboarding session in the client’s headquarters where we had a chance to meet the team in person and learn the project’s specifics.
Merixstudio’s team was in charge of a new version of country sites for the company. In greater detail, we were responsible for both the sales pages (available for all users) and transaction pages (available for authorized users only). On the country sites, users can apply for different types of financial products (particular products are dependant on the specific country’s offer), for example, credit line, microloan, prime loan. The transaction part allows a user to manage his product, cover invoices and track cash flow. The underlying assumption was to prepare a generic solution which allows us to create sites that are country-specific. To begin with, we worked on 3 country versions i.e. for Latvia, New Zealand, and Sweden. They scaled up regularly to hit 23 countries.
The whole application heavily relies on the microservice architecture written in Java. Merixstudio’s expert developers to a great extent dealt specifically with API Gateway (used NestJS to build it) providing a single, unified API entry point across numerous internal APIs.
This was fully remote cooperation put in the framework of a Scrum-driven development.

Sendinblue - a relationship marketing platform
Merixstudio’s team was responsible for timely implementation of a clear-cut scope that mainly boiled down to empowering users to automate email marketing by generating custom forms and pages. Taking into consideration the scale and complexity of the whole application as well as a number of inherent dependencies, the team decided to pay a special focus on the testing process and to double QA efforts. Except for unit tests by the dev team, this mainly referred to QA functional testing i.e. writing numerous test cases and performing intensive manual testing, automated functional testing with WebdriverIO, JavaScript, Mocha, Chai as well as functional API testing with Postman.
The team headcount varied from 7 to 10 people in its peak time and the composition included scrum master, UX designer, QA specialists, front-end and back-end engineers. The team functioned as an independent and self-managing unit, however, maintained collaboration with the other stakeholders located in both Europe and India which make them successfully handle the workflow with an almost 5-hour time zone difference. The whole development was supported by an agile methodology incorporating Scrum practices and adjusting them to the current project needs.

Europe's first solar price comparison portal
Selfmade Energy is a Django-powered comparison service that allows homeowners to find out which solar system installers boast the most competitive offers in their region. After providing basic information about their household, e.g. ZIP code or roof size, the user receives offers from three photovoltaics (PV) system installers and chooses the vendor that suits their needs best.
Dr. Tim Rosengart, the founder of a Berlin-based startup, was looking for a tech partner who would help him disrupt the local renewable energy market. As Germany is leaving the fossil-nuclear age behind, paving the way for photovoltaics (PV) will play a central role in a future shaped by sustainable power production. In order to cover all energy needs from renewable energies, a massive expansion of the installed PV power is necessary. Dr. Tim Rosengart wished to show the German citizens that the installation of the solar panels – although often perceived as expensive – can lead to significant savings in the long run.
Being a proactive member of the Berlin startup ecosystem, Merixstudio approached Dr. Rosengart offering to bring his idea to life with tech expertise, ownership, and outstanding design skills.
The scope of our work included:
- suggesting best tech stack choices based on the client’s expectations and prospective users’ needs
- building backend and frontend of the web application
- delivering clean and intuitive designs
- providing branding design for a startup whose aim was to disrupt the renewable energy market in Germany

bookingkit - SaaS solution for providers of tours
bookingkit is one of the leading Berlin-based companies from the leisure industry, highly recognized in the sector. The company operates as a neutral Global Distribution System (GDS) to provide travel agencies and marketing networks access to tours and activities in the form of a digital inventory. It is also a web-based and integrated solution (software as a service) for providers of tours and activities.
We were approached with an idea depicting how they would like to change their platform’s architecture to enable scaling it even further. The chosen solution is based on sharding - creating a number of instances sharing the same codebase but with different datasets derived from the source and divided by the chosen factor.
Such an approach, similarly to Microservice architecture, creates certain challenges like:
- providing API access allowing data consumption,
- creation across all the instances like it would be a single application.
That can be achieved for instance by creating an API gateway in front of the application instances, and that is what we aimed for.
In addition, a solution had to:
- meet certain performance criteria in terms of response speed,
- be flexible to allow for further development of the main application,
- scalable to support the growth of the user base and possibly the number of instances.
All of this has to be highly available - bookingkit is working with demanding partners such as Trip Advisor or Get Your Guide, which means their services have to be available 24/7.

Business Insurance Management System for the US-based company
This company is a USA-based insurance agency focusing on cooperation with a few specific industries, e.g., trucking. Providing high-quality business products to a narrow and sometimes niche group of enterprises prompted them to adjust their internal processes. Still, off-the-shelf automation tools proved to be too general and rigid to use.
And although the product was to improve their daily work, it quickly became a blocker for the company to grow. The application was slow, too complicated, many operations had to be done manually, and the technologies used were outdated. And most importantly, the learning curve for both new employees and users was steep and required a lot of onboarding time. The overall user experience of the application was poor.
To ensure the company's further development, they were on the lookout for a trustworthy tech partner who will:
- share ownership of the product's design and implementation roadmap,
- rewrite the legacy system (both backend and frontend),
- revise the way their business processes and operations are reflected in it,
- make sure the new tech stack is modern and scalable,
- build a long term relationship for maintenance after the project is done.

Hospitality & Wellness Mobile App
Tourism & accommodation is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. The increasing demand for unforgettable experiences results in solutions that allow users to gain better access to attractions and activities offered by the providers. That’s why one of our UK-based clients came to us with a plan to develop a modern, UX-friendly mobile app for luxurious Spa enthusiasts, looking for relaxation at one of the best resorts in England.
The specifics of such a modern product came with the following issues to solve:
- choosing the appropriate tech stack for front-end and back-end development,
- enabling a comfortable and intuitive booking of many services like massages, facials as well as rooms and other attractions via mobile app,
- anticipating the modern standards of the wellness experience.
The project has been preceded with a remote scoping session, during which the client introduced our full-stack team (frontend, backend, quality assurance, project management) to the requirements, graphical assets, timelines, and roles. Rough deadline stimulated both teams to introduce the best agile practices, and maintain constant communication using Slack, Jira, and Google Hangouts. With several dependencies, every team member was highly involved to overcome technological challenges and the effectiveness has been secured by an experienced project manager.
Merixstudio has integrated three 3rd party APIs during the process, performed Behaviour Driven Development, and series of API tests. The designs have been delivered by our partner, although dedicated User Experience designer supervised the user flows and supported the engineering team evaluating each view, feature and user flow.
A combination of the tourism industry expertise and most modern engineering delivered a future-proof mobile app for streamlining the process of booking deluxe services of UK-based resort.

Netvico- digital signage content management system
Netvico is a Stuttgart-based, boutique digital agency delivering top-notch solutions for all kind of industries and branches. Their portfolio includes highly tailored work for such recognizable clients like Volvo, IBM, Adidas, Porsche, Schwerin, and DHL.
Their core service, PlayEverywhere is a Digital Signage/Digital out of Home content management system (CMS). It is successfully introduced in various locations, such as shopping malls, industrial plants, office spaces, and even ski resorts. The service is suitable for different kinds of users - shift managers, store supervisors, PR & marketing specialists to maintain daily based communication. PlayEverywhere allows them to display Corporate Identity (CI), advertisement and other interactive content on various types of screens, including 4k monitors. All kinds of the audience may benefit from Netvico’s service; industrial workers, shoppers, tourists, and office workers.
Main challenges to overcome:
- from a corporate perspective, the main difficulty was related to Netvico’s demand for top-quality talent. Netvico was on a lookout for a team of experts who will learn their business core and thus continue further development of the CMS, including creating new features.
- the second aspect of work was caused by business circumstances and engineering. Netvico provides it’s services for different kinds of clients, using various types of screens and monitors in different contexts. Some of them are interactive and required WebSockets to maintain communication between the content provider and the final user via smartphones.
Netvico also offers solutions for touchscreens and dynamic environments, like industrial plants, where the contents need to be adjusted several times during the day. PlayEverywhere has to anticipate all these conditions, hence the demand for intuitive navigation best performance.

Snappt - AI-enabled fraud detection software
Merixstudio’s involvement boiled down to two key stages namely onboarding and development. Since we dealt with a legacy project, we agreed to kick-off the project with a 2-week pre-development phase during which the team got familiarised with the project’s priorities and codebase, drew up a plan (research, scope, estimates) for integration with Yardi - a 3rd party property management software, and scoped out a new application’s flow that needed refreshments and better UX. Afterwards, we scaled up a dedicated software team so that we could efficiently develop new features. The key milestones were: building out a new application flow based on the designs delivered by the client and integrating the application with 3rd party Plaid that analyses bank deposits to validate your users’ income and employer information. These were subject to change and adjustments which made us employ a fair amount of flexibility throughout the development.
We followed the Scrum methodology with 2-week sprints that served as a framework for the delivery of new features. Although, the challenging time zone difference, we kept close and transparent communication with Snappt’s US-based stakeholders (e.g. thanks to the weekly planning sessions on the videocon with clients, daily updates on a project’s Slack channel, Jira).
The long-term partnership with Snappt has been based on different degrees of collaboration - since the project’s start, there were various full-time jobs intermingled by less intensive maintenance time.

Process General - US-wide database of legal cases
We improved the usability and findability of data by redesigning Information Architecture and simplifying user paths. The whole process was initiated by UX audit that identified the specific areas that needed refinement. This gave us a fair ground for working on accurate planning and execution of product development - this, however, was shaped with a client during online Product Design Workshops. During 3 online sessions, we discussed: the value proposition, main assumptions, and priorities for development, re-definition of target users, Information Architecture structure, the scope of features to be developed, and technology and solutions that will be used. The key objectives were to increase findability, usability, increase esthetics, decreasing bugs and not working features.
We proceeded with an intensive iterative wireframing of the new solution in a multidisciplinary team of UX, PM, and Python developer so that the feedback loop is shortened and the solution is robust from the early stages. The wireframes were eventually implemented with customized Material Design which let us speed up the process. Other goals to achieve were integration with Pacer, an electronic public access service of United States federal court records, to automatically download documents and introducing the mobile version of the app. During the development, we followed Scrum practices and organized work in one-week sprints that served as a framework for delivery of the new features.

Study Bee - a learning system for Google Classroom
Studybee is a Sweden-based startup that builds a lightweight learning management system for both teachers and students. It enables teachers to grade students' assignments and assess students' progress directly in Google Classroom where the actual learning takes place. This decreases administration job for teachers and, as a result, gives them more time for teaching. Also, students can view assessments and receive feedback in Google Classroom.
Merixstudio’s key responsibilities were building an A-to-Z Chrome extension from scratch, implementing a browser-based logging functionality, fetching data from Google Classroom API, building a dedicated admin panel using out-of-the-box Django Suit, defining different grades’ types, managing grades (thanks to an advanced digital class register), Google Cloud integration.
We also executed UI/GUI tests, functional tests, and E2E tests. We wrote test cases, and we tried to cover all the scenarios including positive and failure path and boundary cases. We wanted to be sure that the extension was working as expected and according to the specific requirement.

Volumetric rendering and streaming platform

Logo Creator - ML-powered logo maker to instantly create custom logo designs
The project boiled down to creating a proof of concept version (POC) of the Python application in order to demonstrate its feasibility and verify a practical potential of the concept.
In brief, the main user flow looks as follows: user inputs name of the business, selects industry, chooses a few pre-designed styles from templates, picks up colour schemes. These several steps were supposed to lead to the automated generation of a logo with a watermark.
A fundamental job that determined the success of the project was designing the model of logo generator's engine.
This came down to the following flow:
- at the beginning of the process, a batch of logos with random parameters was created,
- from this batch, those which broke some base design principle were filtered out i.e. those without sufficient contrast between colours,
- finally, a Machine Learning classifier, trained on examples hand-labeled as good or bad, filtered out those logos that didn’t reach a certain quality.
The model used as machine learning classifier was a neural network created in TensorFlow. This framework exposes to programmer low-level API that allows having better control over the architecture of the neural network.

a platform for managing the employees’ activities
There have been over one year of close cooperation between Levatis and Merixstudio’s Angular team. We kicked off the project by integrating with the client and team in their headquarters in Vienna where our developers travelled for a few day onboarding processes. In this early stage, Merixstudio’s team performed a code review to test for application performance and code quality. This was a prerequisite for assessing the general health of the application (including main pains/gains) indicating remedial points (including the suggested action points and recommendations). The next step was implementing new features such as a time tracking tool, CRUD views for projects, and human resources planner.
The division of work’s scope was quite clear-cut. Merixstudio took ownership of front-end development in Angular, whereas Levatis in-house team took care of back-end written in Java. The whole development was facilitated by agile methodologies.

Divio - enterprise content management with Django
Django CMS is a simple and developer-friendly system with a powerful and intuitive drag-and-drop interface. The application supports content management - it’s been built around the needs of marketers (offering multi-lingual publishing and built-in SEO tools) as well as developers (offering easy integration with other Django applications).
The client reached out to us with a need for quick scaling up their existing software development team in order to accelerate velocity and enrich the team with new skills. Initially, Merixstudio’s team kicked-off the project as a development extension of the Divio team, however, with time they have been given greater ownership and trust being recognised as core developers and consultants.
During the development, we remained in close contact with the external team not only remotely (via Slack, Jira, Skype videocons) but also on-site visiting Divio’s headquarters and Divio clients's branches in the crucial phases of the development.

Walaro - web app for warehouse space leasing
Our approach was to create the MVP of the solution to get the product to early customers and let the client achieve business KPIs in a timely fashion. Functionalities and priorities were discussed with the client and multidisciplinary team during the two-day in-house Product Design Workshop. This helped us to forge product requirements and tailored solutions having been focused on users and business needs. Design Thinking was a strategic and practical process that made us achieve it.
Thanks to the outcome of the workshop, we were able to proceed smoothly with the wire-framing and graphic design phase during which we were in close cooperation with a development team so that we design tech-viable and effective solutions. Apart from the UX/UI visual assets, we crafted marketing materials that client used for talks with investors, encouraging operators to use the application and, consequently, unlocking the potential of the B2B-oriented part of the platform.
On the basis of a prior product design process, we crafted and launched a responsive web-based application on the Python Django framework. The whole development workflow was individual and adjustable to the current project’s needs. We were inspired by Agile development and followed selected Scrum ceremonies fine-tuning their frequencies to the changing environment and team size.

Bronson Vitamins - US e-commerce solution for med
The collaboration with Bronson Vitamins started more than 10 years ago and since then it has been a strong partnership based on a series of different projects intermingled by less intensive maintenance time. Initially, we provided support in customizing Magento solutions and adjusting the e-commerce platform to the unique users (e.g. elderly users who browse the web using smaller screens) and business needs. We created a new fully responsive version of the store with a goal of optimizing online sales channels as well as redesigning the layout. All these combined resulted in growing traffic from mobile devices.
One of the recent milestones we worked on was a UX audit which was a precondition for complete re-design of the layout and making the new site fully responsive (RWD). UX audit was to capture relevant information that would support the process of redesigning in a smart way i.e. adjusting to the users by noticing and understanding their behaviour patterns, annoyances and mistakes. During this process, we relied mostly on data gathered via Hotjar. Within 2 000 sessions, we gathered: 1 411 desktop, 214 tablet, 375 phone unique sessions. This served as a solid ground for identifying less-than-perfect places and needed UX tweaks and in the later stage, wireframing of the new service and creating final UI design.

Omnigame - gaming solutions for a online casino
Merixstudio supported Omnigame in turning their UI design into powerful and superb casino games played by thousands of gamers. Throughout nearly two-year-long cooperation, we developed four state-of-the-art slot games.
The core game developed was Grand Prix - single-seater fast-paced auto racing wrapped up with sleek graphics and smart animations. The game incorporated both skill and excitement that gave players an experience that was very close to driving a race car on the World Championship. It consisted of three smaller ones that were supposed maximized players engagement and encouraged to heavy use of the game.
To enhance the animation effect, we used Spine - 2D skeletal animation software. Spine facilitated the efficiency and workflow both for creating powerful animation and for integrating it into games’ design. One of the key assets of this solution is the smaller size (standard animation requires an image for each frame, however, Spine-fuelled animations store only the small bone data - attaching images to bones, then animating the bones) and smoothness of the animations (Spine animations use interpolation so animation is always as smooth as the frame rate - they can be displayed in slow motion with no loss in quality).
The whole software development was in very close collaboration with clients’ in-house team, especially their proxy Product Owner that used to set priorities and direction for the development. We kicked off the project with two frontend developers and a project manager and kept this set-up for most of the collaboration time. This was long-term cooperation covering both intensive full-time development and maintenance.

Up your eGame - a premium community platform for gamers
The Client reached out to us with a rough product idea and an outline of its key objectives. Prior to kicking-off the development we needed to get to the stage when we have a clear shape of the product and the solid action plan, therefore, we decided to begin with an online Product Discovery Workshop participated by the founders and multidisciplinary Merixstudio’s team.
In the workshop, we focused on verifying the basic assumptions of the product and making sure that we have a perfect understanding of its goals, business model, users, and value proposition. After identifying loopholes, generating new ideas and adjusting them to specific users and business needs, we had a proper ground for crafting the final solution. In the end, we had the service described in the form of story map capturing the product shape and logic, defined MVP’s scope and development roadmap. It seems easier said than done - in fact, the process was very intensive and required effective management due to the number of stakeholders involved as well as time difference and the potential feedback loop it could cause.
Next, we proceeded with working on the MVP version of the project starting with wireframing that was kept 4 sprints ahead of the proper development. As regards the management, we followed the Scrumban methodology accompanied by Scrum events such as Daily, Review, plus ad-hoc Plannings, Refinements, and Retrospectives. Throughout 1 year of development, the team headcount varied from 2 to 9 people in its peak time and the composition included product owner, UX and UI designers, QA, front-end and back-end engineers.

Non-profit platform supporting humanity's missions
Humanitrack is a platform for uniting communities to collaborate with the world, to formulate a plan and to push progress. Humanitrack is a progress tracking tool and accelerator for an unlimited number of long-term humankind goals, for example, all of the UN's Global Goals such as radicating thirst and hunger, extending lifespan, increasing quality of life, greatly reducing the cost of green energy or stabilizing the climate.
Merixstudio was initially occupied with developing an MVP for a platform yet our role has later evolved into developing a polished early beta version. A priority for the client was tobuild a working MVP of the platform on a budget without sacrificing any of the necessary features. The MVP needed to be exceptional as the platform and community around would define the client’s company as well would serve as a foundation for testing the core user base. Merixstudio was also responsible for designing the UI (using Material-UI) as well as the DevOps operations.
The team headcount in the peak time was 8 - it consisted of a project manager, QA specialist, three frontend developers, a Python developer, a DevOps engineer as well as a UI and a UX lead. We followed SCRUM-driven development.
One of the most significant milestones to achieve was designing the highly-engaging platform’s mechanics and finding ways to encourage users to return and keep them engaged on the website. To take advantages of our possibilities and work out the best possible solutions, we decided to run an open user-centred design thinking workshop as a part of the World Usability Day Poznań 2018. We selected 14 UX-enthusiasts as well as invited Humanitract‘s founders to collaborate during an intensive day-long workshop session. See the full coverage.

Happy Scribe - a high-end dynamic SaaS platform
Happy Scribe is a high-end dynamic SaaS platform for researchers, journalists, podcasters, and media production companies. It uses state-of-the-art machine-learning models to transcribe audio/video files uploaded by users automatically. Happy Scribe is used in a plethora of different industries, whether it be in education all the way through to the entertainment.
We were tasked with, among other features, the development of a simple and functional player for video or audio. Apart from simply playing the material, users can also control it by clicking on text to jump to the specific point in audio or video simultaneously.
The next thing we were responsible for was making the transcribed text as clear for users as possible. That’s why we introduce speaker Identification, which allows users to set the identification to differentiate between speakers.
Another problem we needed to tackle was how to help users to easily navigate the text when playing the transcribed file. We achieved that by adding the function of highlighting the text (similar to karaoke), which is synchronized with the spoken word. In addition to that, we introduced comments, which also are based on highlighting particular parts of the text.
One of the most interesting features we implemented was also a confidence Heatmap, which defines the value in the audio/video file transcribed into text.

Everclassic
Everclassic is a leading Danish online marketplace for vintage, Scandinavian design including furniture, ceramics, art, and other design objects. It is a large-scale platform including both online auctions and a marketplace.
One of the main challenges for Merixstudio was to successfully take over the project from a team from Ukraine making it smooth and downtime-free. The key milestone achieved by Merixstudio was developing an English version of the website to help our partner thrive on the international market. This was proceeded by completing the unfinished legacy tasks such as rewriting Zend to Phalcon as well as Magento integration and performance optimization.
The team composition was flexible and adjustable to the current project’s needs. We kicked off with one back-end developer and PM, then, on peak time scale up to four team members adding a front-end developer and QA specialist. The Client and Merixstudio’s manager shared the responsibility for the project management distributing it between the product-vision and process-coordination parts.
Stack: Magento 2, Phalcon, Laravel, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the co-founder and engineering director of a startup that makes veterinary software.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We were trying to set up a team augmentation model where Merixstudio would provide back- and frontend developers to be a part of our team.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Merixstudio provides us with back- and frontend developers to augment our in-house team. They use Python with Django on the backend and Typescript with React and GraphQL for the frontend.
What is the team composition?
We don't interact with a project manager, just four of Merixstudio's developers.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
We looked at reviews on Clutch.co and interviewed about nine of the top Python companies. We were initially only looking for backend developers, but Merixstudio convinced us that it was a good idea to take on frontend developers as well.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around £250,000 (approximately $306,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
Our partnership with Merixstudio began in March 2021 and is scheduled to be complete within a few weeks.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I don't have any metrics, but Merixstudio's two frontend developers have quickly become a part of our team, and we'll be sad to see them go. They've produced a lot of features that we wouldn't have been able to do without them.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
My team manages the project since Merixstudio's developers are essentially a part of our team. We've integrated Merixstudio's teammates into our Slack channels and also use Google Meet for our morning team standup meetings. We also have Slack huddles throughout the day and GitHub for our projects. Merixstudio always meets deadlines and stays within budget.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We had some issues filling a backend developer position with Merixstudio's developers, which was frustrating because that's what we wanted them for in the first place. However, we adjusted our plan and hired full-time developers for that role instead.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I'd advise customers to hire Merixstudio.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the manager of language revitalization for an indigenous organization.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We wanted to develop a language learning app for our organization and its beneficiaries and participants.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We hired Merixstudio to design and develop a language learning app for iOS and Android. We started the engagement with an initial meeting, wherein we explained to them what we were looking for and what our expectations were for the mobile app. After a few more meetings exchanging our thoughts and input for the app, they started building it.
The app offered general language lessons for our organization’s beneficiaries. When users open the app for the first time, they’re asked to sign in and answer a few questions about their age, ethnicity, and level of proficiency in the language before they can access the modules within the app. After finishing each module, users are required to pass a test before moving forward to the next one. Each passing module is a little bit more advanced than the previous one.
We wanted the app to have a warm, welcoming feel to it. Merixstudio worked closely with our language specialists to make sure that the app had all of the features and designs that we wanted for it.
What is the team composition?
Our main point of contact is a project manager, but there are around 5-7 people in total working on the app itself.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
At the time, we had a language specialist who was working with our organization, and this app was something that he had been looking into developing for quite some time. He did a lot of research on various app developers across Canada and the US and found that Merixstudio was the best fit for this project because of their reputation and the type of work that they've done before in language revitalization.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $100,000 so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We haven’t launched the app to the App Store and the Google Play Store yet, but we have conducted user testing. We’ve received very positive feedback from the individuals who tested the app in terms of its layout, content, and modules.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
Merixstudio has performed really well in terms of project management. They’re incredibly helpful and are always there to answer our questions and address our concerns. They also guided our IT person in filling out the forms for the app markets, which was great.
We typically communicate through email, and we also have Zoom meetings once every week.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I’m most impressed with how supportive and helpful Merixstudio is. They took their time to explain every step of the app development process to us. They made sure to meet with us through Zoom every week to update us on their progress, explain everything that they were doing, and ask for my feedback. This really showed how much they cared about our satisfaction and how they’re constantly trying to improve themselves.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I wish they had explained the whole process upfront before we started the app’s development. They developed the app just as how we planned, but we had to upload all of the content ourselves, which we weren’t prepared for.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure to do your research, prepare and have all of your questions written down, and establish a budget and timeline before you start the engagement.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of Facta, and we build software for the finance and accounting industry. We’re located in San Francisco.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We hired Merixstudio for custom development.
What was the scope of their involvement?
When they came into the partnership, they reviewed everything for about a month and created a plan to fix all of the technical problems we had. They've done a bunch of things for us, including fixing a legacy codebase and writing a new software. They're also in charge of auditing the quality and code of our platforms.
Furthermore, team has also built a bunch of new products and implemented many UI/UX improvements. On the frontend, they use TypeScript, React, and Redux. On the backend, they use SQL, Serverless, and PostgreSQL. The main purpose of their outputs is to contain, analyze, and communicate financial data, so it affects both the accounting and finance departments at companies.
What is the team composition?
We’re working with their project manager who’s in charge of organizing everything. We also work with their two frontend developers, three backend developers, two designers, and a customer service lead.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
Merixstudio was referred by another service provider in Poland. We were told that the team could produce high-quality work.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent over $500,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our ongoing partnership began in February 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The value that they’ve delivered has been impressive. Thanks to them, we have a software that’s very easy to onboard because it’s automated. As a result, it’s easier for customers to get their work done. In addition, data integrity is very high, which allows us to offer good UX. Overall, we have had a good experience working with them.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
They have an excellent project management process. They finish their work on time and as expected. They have a dedicated project manager assigned to us and we let him dictate the course on a number of our decisions. So far, he’s been right with all of his decisions. We use Jira and GitHub as our project management tools, and we communicate through Zoom and Slack.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The quality of their engineers and designers is great.
Are there any areas they could improve?
One of their engineers left in the middle of the project, but that’s pretty typical for outsourcing providers. Besides that, we have a pretty flawless relationship with Merixstudio.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Trust Merixstudio because they’re experienced and they know what they’re doing. Give them a little leeway because they’ll deliver as long as you trust them.

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the CTO of a company that provides embedded financial services for startups.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We were trying to build an API and the corresponding dashboard to power our embedded financial propositions.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Merixstudio provided us with an entire scrum team to augment our in-house development team and develop our proposition software. Before the development began, we had a few workshops with a designer, who helped us visualize and create a mind map of what we wanted to achieve. We dove into the details of the product we wanted, but didn’t completely design the product because we’d created one with another designer.
They built onto our existing MVP platform and brought it to production. Merixstudio also developed several of our internal development processes and workflows in Jira. For this project, Merixstudio utilized React.js and Selenium.
What is the team composition?
We worked with Paveł (Mobile Engineering Manager), two backend developers, and a QA teammate from Merixstudio.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
We initially shortlisted several candidates on Clutch, and Merixstudio understood our project the best and had experience with similar projects. They had a lot of really great reviews on Clutch.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested €70,000 (approximately $78,000 USD) with Merixstudio.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement with Merixstudio was from April–August 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Merixstudio took our startup mentality and built up our ideas into products that are now in the hands of our users. Before working with Merixstudio, we were pre-product with no customers. Now, we have products and solid development processes in place that have instilled good habits in my team.
The API Merixstudio built is very stable and we haven’t gotten any complaints from users — all of the issues with our embedded systems have been rectified. Merixstudio’s work has made my life a lot easier.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
Even though he was only a part-time project manager, Paveł acted more like a full-time manager. He ensured that our project was set up correctly and built an impeccable project management process using Jira. We usually used Jira and Slack for daily communication and had daily standups in Google Hangouts.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The best thing about working with Merixstudio is having access to their exceptional development talent and QA team. Their team helped us stabilize our system — their talent and dedication to the craft really improved our business. No matter the developer, Merixstudio maintained high-quality work across the project.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Merixstudio’s financial awareness wasn’t great because they were focused on their craft. Often, they didn’t understand the cost implications of certain design decisions, but we found a good balance between work quality, timeliness, and cost after a while.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I’d advise customers to be as clear as possible about their project's objectives, timeline, and budget. It’s also important to encapsulate each project into specific details so that the customer always knows where Merixstudio is at a given point in a project.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a company that produces emergency lighting systems and options.
What challenge were you trying to address Merixstudio?
They’re producing a web user interface for one of our systems, implementing the frontend and the backend. We’re giving all the interfaces to the hardware of the embedded system.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, we had a few chats about how to implement our wants, as many companies don’t have experience with embedded systems. We then move into a hybrid remote and in-person workshop.
Merixstudio is currently designing and developing the UI for our solution. The product allows people to configure their space after they connect to local WiFi networks. Currently, the solution runs through a web browser.
What is the team composition?
We’re working with around 8-11 people right now, including full- and part-time teammates. Resources for UX design and QA come and go as needed. In the beginning, with first contact, they had senior developers with experience available to answer my questions. Now, we’re with a different group of people.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
I checked out multiple websites talking about software development and identified those with experience with embedded systems. After speaking with 5-6 companies, I picked Merixstudio because they had the best meeting and asked the right questions.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent close to €90,000 (approximately $102,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve worked together since September 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We work through a design, sprint, and then delivery process. The sprints last two weeks, and we present deliverables to our stakeholders for their approval before continuing to the next task.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
We’re all in the same slack channel and have daily stand ups. Merixstudio responds quickly to requests. Whenever we need to make changes, they find someone to implement them. There’s no lack of communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their flexibility stands out. With 200-250 developers, they can provide more support when we need it. Likewise, if someone is not currently needed, Merixstudio has other tasks to assign to them.
Additionally, their design and frontend development have been very fast. I expected the work to take much more time, but their resources are great.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There could have been more preparation from both sides. Merixstudio couldn’t have done anything, as we were under time pressure, so a few issues did pop up with the embedded system.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Take your time in preparation.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
Biocore is a biomechanics company that does research and consulting. We provide a large portion of our services to organizations that are focused on sports, in particular, those that are in the professional football industry. I am a senior software developer in the company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We have a product that we are currently in the process of researching and developing. In this case, it is an instrumented mouthguard that will be used by professional and collegiate football players. We hired Merixstudio to build a software that could enable our research team to pull and view data from multiple data streams — or those that are coming from the instrumented mouthguards — and to validate the information we are discovering. Our goal is to detect and determine the impacts on players using that validated data.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Merixstudio started by building the frontend of the software from scratch. One of our requirements was that it be a React-based application, so their team used Next.js. We provided them with some rough wireframes and they went into a design process to improve upon it for usability and a better overall look and feel.
What is the team composition?
We worked with about 5–6 people. There was a UI/UX lead, a visual designer, a project manager, two developers, and a QA specialist.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
I had worked with Merixstudio years ago for a website and software development project. This was for the company that I owned. At that time, I found them through a Google search and started working wi them. I had such a great experience with their team that I decided to include them in our RFP process for this project.
Clutch was a big driver in that undertaking since we looked into the testimonies of former clients. That, combined with my personal experience with Merixstudio, cemented our decision.
How much have you invested with them?
I believe we spent around $113,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We formally began working together in April 2021, and the work was completed last August 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
In the past, our research team had to undergo a very difficult manual process of pulling and validating data. Thanks to Merixstudio’s involvement, we now have a full-fledged software that only takes 10–15 minutes to complete what was once an hours-long task. It was hugely valuable to our researchers. Back then, we would also need to wait until the end of the season, but now, we can look into the data every week.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
Merixstudio was great across the board. Working with them was such a phenomenal experience, which is why we’ve hired them again to do two more projects.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What stood out about Merixstudio in this engagement, as in the last, was the level of quality that we got from their design team. Their output is at a level far above what we would’ve received from the other companies that we considered and worked with. It also stood out how they did everything at an incredibly lower price point. It allowed us to iterate more times to make the software better. We got great value for our investment.
Are there any areas they could improve?
A lot of the areas we initially struggled with were really due to us and not Merixstudio. Off the top of my head, I only have good things to say about their team.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you have the opportunity and means to meet with Merixstudio in person, do it. Investing in a thorough design process with this team will be totally worth it. Even if you don’t or can’t, though, you are sure to end up at a really great place, just as we have.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a medical software company. Our goal is to offer more insight and transparency into medical billing to help physicians employ best practices when managing claims.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We already had a system that enabled bookkeepers to process physician claims, but we wanted to make an extension of that app specifically for physicians. To do that, we were looking for a team with a lot of expertise in frontend development.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Merixstudio handled the frontend development of our progressive web app. They worked in conjunction with our internal development team, which dealt with the backend side. We first set up several sprints and detailed what needed to be done and who needed to do them.
The platform is already finished, but we have yet to launch it. The app allows physicians to log in and see an overview of their earnings and track claims from inception to completion.
What is the team composition?
We worked with a total of five teammates, including Sławek (Project Manager), two frontend developers, a designer, and a QA specialist.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
Someone recommended a software agency to us. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the technical background we were looking for, so they put me in touch with Merixstudio, who had a good track record in web-based apps and used the same tech stack as us. They showed us a number of their past projects that proved that they were the best fit for us.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $50,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from April–August 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
It was a pretty good project. Merixstudio did an excellent job of getting ahead of the curve — they finished well ahead of time and below budget. Furthermore, we didn't need to redo any part of their work. Whenever we found any issues or bugs, the Merixstudio team solved them very quickly and efficiently.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
They exceeded expectations in terms of the timelines. Moreover, they did a great job setting up meetings well in advance, so there was no shortage of communication between us. We met 1–2 times per week on average.
The project manager was really professional and responsive — he kept everyone on track and prevented any scope creep.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Merixstudio was a very collaborative team — it was easy to work with them because they set aside their egos and focused on what we wanted to achieve. Additionally, the communication couldn’t have been better. They were willing to sit down with us and plan the project in detail.
Overall, they had a phenomenal skill set, worked efficiently, and communicated effectively. Finding a partner like that was invaluable to us, and we plan on working with them again on the next version of the product.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could’ve been more proactive about giving us suggestions, but in the end, that wasn’t their fault. We designed the product, so they were just doing what they were supposed to.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Do your work ahead of time and make sure that the project is scoped efficiently. If you know what you want to build and have a clear vision, Merixstudio will handle the execution and deliver precisely what you want.

I’m the co-founder and CTO of a company in the IoT industry. We also offer cryptocurrency-related financial services.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We hired Merixstudio to replace our existing software development team because they weren’t able to scale our application to the international market.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Merixstudio is helping us build our website’s frontend dashboard and reconcile our legacy data. They use standard platforms, technologies, and programming languages, such as React Redux, Node.js, React Native, Webpack, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS. Additionally, they use CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous delivery) practices.
What is the team composition?
Their team composition oscillates between 9–12 people, depending on the project. This includes two project managers who constantly help us out.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
Merixstudio was a recommendation from one of our portfolio investors who had used them previously. We tried them, and they’ve worked well so far.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $500,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Merixstudio has helped us release our app’s 1.5 version, as well as our frontend dashboard’s 2.0 version. So far, their work has been very good. We’re satisfied with them, and we’ve received positive feedback.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
Merixstudio has been very good at managing the project. They ensure that we have written weekly updates, and they also keep us updated over Slack.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Merixstudio is very communicative, and they’ve met my expectations. Overall, they’ve done a good job.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be constantly engaged with them, and make sure that you give them as much information as you can before they start working with you. Merixstudio has great assertiveness, which I really appreciate, but it also requires us to be highly assertive from our side. If you’re going to hire them, try to be very communicative for your engagement to work as well as you need it to.

Mobile & Web App Dev for Ammunition & Defense Company
"Their ability to rapidly obtain the domain knowledge required in our space stood out."

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a digital analyst in the ammunition sector at Ruag. We’re in the business of defense, aeronautics, and space.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
In ammunition, one of the key software components that we offer to our customers is ballistics software to simulate the trajectories of small-arms caliber fire. We were looking to update that software to the latest generation.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We developed an updated model for calculating the trajectory of ammunition, and Merixstudio designed and implemented it in a Flutter application for mobile phones. They also created a JavaScript application for the web. Essentially, they wrote all the frontend code for the users.
Once we selected Merixstudio, we provided them lots of different technical documentation, including scientific papers, our user persona research, and a competitor analysis on existing apps in the space.
They used a workshop-style process where we explained the project, handed over our technical documentation. Because of Coronavirus, we shortened this phase, foregoing the workshops and sharing the requirements in more specific detail than was in the bid.
All the work was done remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. We haven’t had a physical meeting with them yet.
Merixstudio worked independently on sprints and reported back to us. This execution phase ran from summer through winter 2020, with the project deploying in December. There were some bugs and technical difficulties, but those were ironed out in the weeks following deployment. Since launch, they’ve supplemented the project with various additional features.
What is the team composition?
It’s been varied, but we’ve worked with an account manager, a project manager, a senior developer, three mid-level developers, and two QA resources.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
We have stringent rules about purchasing so we found four agencies to bid on the project. The requirements were a cross-platform mobile app and web app. We’re based in Sweden but none of the domestic options matched our budget.
I went out looking for agencies in the US and Europe, and we found a few options in Poland as well. Everyone submitted bids, and we weighed numerous factors, including cost, time-to-completion, the type of technology stack they’d be using and more. Out of all the bids that we received, Merixstudio wasn’t the least or most affordable, and they weren’t the fastest or slowest either. Rather, they satisfied all our requirements across the board.
How much have you invested with them?
The initial cost was around €80,0000 (approximately $94,000 USD), and we’ve spent another €70,000 (approximately $83,000 USD) since then.
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working together since June 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve received a lot of positive feedback on the application, but we don’t have too much quantitative data summarized. 200–300 people visit and use our desktop application, and over 1,000 people use the mobile app daily. We’re very happy.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve done very well. Ammunition is a sensitive business, meaning there are lots of security protocols we have to abide by. This makes knowledge transfers difficult, but Merixstudio performed very well.
We use the Atlassian suite, including Trello, Jira, and Confluence. Slack helps with day-to-day communication and quick questions. Google Meet and Microsoft Teams support our larger meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their ability to rapidly obtain the domain knowledge required in our space stood out. Ammunition touches on defense and law enforcement, target shooting and hunting — these are very different customer types with different demands. It can be difficult to explain this type of business to people, as there are many who are openly against these types of activities, but Metrixstudio was very neutral about it. In this case, it was very easy for us to hand over all the required knowledge to build a successful application.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They’ve had some personnel turnover, including one of the lead designers we worked with. She left the company mid-project; we’d spent a lot of time explaining the application to her initially. Some details were lost during the transition — this happens in every business but it certainly created some stumbling blocks. We had a meeting to rectify the problem, and it was taken care of.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
They’re great. They work quickly and to budget. To get the most out of the relationship, it’s important to have really clear instructions and on-point specifications because Metrixstudio will deliver exactly what you ask of them. If you don’t write it down or tell them, then it won’t be in the product. I definitely recommend them.

Custom Software Development for High-End Travel Company
“Merixstudio sincerely cares about helping to find solutions for their customers.”

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a travel company. We’re a high-end travel company that specializes in luxury chalet rentals in about 50 different destinations.
What challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?
We were looking to update a legacy pricing and availability tool we had. We wanted Merixstudio to develop it as a custom software app. Once they looked at our current systems, they made some recommendations on how we could turn it into a one source of truth system. The system could become far more streamlined and modern. We came to them with one problem, and they showed us what was possible. Then, we decided to pursue that with them.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started with three scoping sessions with Merixstudio over the course of a 12-month period. The delay between those was due to our internal team and if we wanted to commit to a project. After the scoping sessions, we did a UX audit and code review of our existing web system.
Once we decided to embark on the large, full project it began again with rescoping the project. That was followed by a UX and design phase where we went through and analyzed the entire user journey and behavior. We took the time to study that together and look at what solutions we could do for the frontend.
We also looked at our internal users, which is our team, and how they’d use the back-office system. We wanted to make sure that was user-friendly as well because that had been a problem in the past. Once we moved on from that, Merixstudio started developing a proprietary backend for us. That dovetailed into the frontend on the website. In parallel with that, we had a proprietary sales tool being developed too.
What is the team composition?
It has varied over the course of the project. We’ve had two principal backend engineers, 3–4 other backend engineers, a couple of frontend engineers, a project manager, a UX specialist, a designer, and the DevOps team.
How did you come to work with Merixstudio?
We scoped several companies in the market and did a bit of a tender process. We went out to 5–6 companies that we’d reviewed and sent them questionnaires. They gave us a little overview of how they work and Merixstudio felt like a good fit. I flew to meet them in person twice. We got on straight away. I had a good feeling, and they were an impressive company so we went with them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve invested between $200,000–$1 million.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our ongoing engagement started in June 2019. Now, we have an ongoing retainer with them for support services and the constant evolution of our IT.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We released the products in February 2021 so we’re still in the early days. An early indication of success has been that the bounce rate of our website’s frontend has reduced significantly. Time spent on the website and the conversion rates have both increased. All early indications are positive.
Internally, our team is very happy with the deliverables. We feel that the time spent on administrative tasks has reduced immensely. The system is much more efficient and user-friendly for our team. Of course, there are things we didn’t get to that we still want to continue to develop. In terms of customers and suppliers, feedback has been very positive. They praise the new site.
How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve done very well with project management. There’s always a phase of learning how to work together especially because the bulk of the project was 8–10 months long. We went through several stages, and Merixstudio managed the project very well. Communication was good, and they were transparent. We utilize Slack, Jira, and Confluence.
Their team really worked to understand how we work. They adapted to help and suit us. It’s been a very positive engagement from a project management standpoint. We had regular meetings where the cadence depended on the part of the project. I regularly speak to our project manager. Even now, we speak on a daily basis even if it’s just to touch base on Slack.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Merixstudio sincerely cares about helping to find solutions for their customers. They’re flexible with us and mindful of how we want to work. When we’d present ideas, their team was good at explaining other solutions that may be more effective.
They were good at having those conversations and explaining why we might want to go in another direction. At the same time, if we come to them with a good idea, they were always on board. Listening and working collaboratively are very good between our teams.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, nothing in particular. I think we all could’ve learned to collaborate a little quicker. If anything did come up, Merixstudio reacted and solved it.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Do a longer scoping session at the beginning, especially if you’re not experienced in engineering like our team was. Instead of spreading out scoping sessions as we did, have them be more focused. Do it over the course of a week to really define the project from the outset.
Merixstudio's frontend developers are an invaluable part of the client's team. The client wouldn't have been able to create key features without Merixstudio's resources. The client manages the project through GitHub, communicating with Merixstudio's developers through daily standups in Google Meet.
