The product design workshop at Merixstudio is an essential step in the custom software development process and a very good way of starting the product development process. Every product design workshop session is different and we always adapt its plan to the client’s needs. The maturity level of your project doesn’t matter here. Product design workshops at Merixstudio will be beneficial for both - new projects and ideas, where

assumptions are not clear yet but also for already designed products that need revision and improvement.

Each product design workshop session consists of doing sketches and mobile or web application mockups, brainstorming and focusing on the business goals or the analysis of user flow. One of the main advantages of participating in product design workshops is time and money savings. Such a session is a crucial way of understanding the application and the users’ needs.

Product Design workshops are also a good opportunity to know the multidisciplinary team that will be working on your project. The engineering team always takes part in it - you’ll have the frontend and backend developers that are able to advise and present a more technical point of view on your project. Of course, the product design team with UI and UX designers is also present at the workshop. The project manager role is also essential here as you will stay in contact with him/her during the whole product development process. Also for us, it is very important to work in multidisciplinary teams. That way we can look at the project from different perspectives and be more creative. Additionally heaving a tech person on the product design workshop will give us insight on how those features will be developed and how much effort will it take.

Moneyfarm - a leading UK digital wealth management application Image

Moneyfarm - a leading UK digital wealth management application

Moneyfarm’s mission is to give their customers the best solutions and support to protect and grow their wealth through time. They believe that everyone should be able to protect, promote and pursue his/ her wealth, without having to worry about it. We were very happy to help them in spreading this mission and bringing value to the customers.

There have been over 9-months of close cooperation between Moneyfarm and

Merixstudio’s React development team. We kicked off the project with a few day onboarding processes in their London headquarters where we had a chance to meet the team in person and learn the project’s specifics.

Merixstudio provided front-end development support for two of MF’s internal teams; among others, the onboarding team with a key focus of unifying the users’ onboarding process. This referred e.g. minimising differences between the flows on web and mobile, doing groundworks for A/B testing on user flow. We also dealt with data analysis and data visualisation ( we used for these dygraphs and chart.js - JavaScript charting libraries).

We followed agile management using “Quarterfall” model i.e. planning in 3-month blocks where OKRs were derived from work prioritised for the quarter. The team incorporated Scrum that served as a framework for delivery and employed its ceremonies that facilitated the development.

Sendinblue - a powerful relationship marketing platform Image

Sendinblue - a powerful relationship marketing platform

Merixstudio’s team was responsible for timely implementation of a clear-cut scope that mainly boiled down to empowering users to automate email marketing by generating custom forms and pages. Taking into consideration the scale and complexity of the whole application as well as a number of inherent dependencies, the team decided to pay a special focus on the testing process and to double QA

efforts. Except for unit tests by the dev team, this mainly referred to QA functional testing i.e. writing numerous test cases and performing intensive manual testing, automated functional testing with WebdriverIO, JavaScript, Mocha, Chai as well as functional API testing with Postman.

The team headcount varied from 7 to 10 people in its peak time and the composition included scrum master, UX designer, QA specialists, front-end and back-end engineers. The team functioned as an independent and self-managing unit, however, maintained collaboration with the other stakeholders located in both Europe and India which make them successfully handle the workflow with an almost 5-hour time zone difference. The whole development was supported by an agile methodology incorporating Scrum practices and adjusting them to the current project needs.

Walaro - django-based web app for warehouse space leasing Image

Walaro - django-based web app for warehouse space leasing

Our approach was to create the MVP of the solution to get the product to early customers and let the client achieve business KPIs in a timely fashion. Functionalities and priorities were discussed with the client and multidisciplinary team during the two-day in-house Product Design Workshop. This helped us to forge product requirements and tailored solutions having been focused on users and

business needs. Design Thinking was a strategic and practical process that made us achieve it.

Thanks to the outcome of the workshop, we were able to proceed smoothly with the wire-framing and graphic design phase during which we were in close cooperation with a development team so that we design tech-viable and effective solutions. Apart from the UX/UI visual assets, we crafted marketing materials that client used for talks with investors, encouraging operators to use the application and, consequently, unlocking the potential of the B2B-oriented part of the platform.

On the basis of a prior product design process, we crafted and launched a responsive web-based application on the Python Django framework. The whole development workflow was individual and adjustable to the current project’s needs. We were inspired by Agile development and followed selected Scrum ceremonies fine-tuning their frequencies to the changing environment and team size.

Bronson Vitamins - a leading US e-commerce solution for medicines Image

Bronson Vitamins - a leading US e-commerce solution for medicines

The collaboration with Bronson Vitamins started more than 10 years ago and since then it has been a strong partnership based on a series of different projects intermingled by less intensive maintenance time. Initially, we provided support in customizing Magento solutions and adjusting the e-commerce platform to the unique users (e.g. elderly users who browse the web using smaller screens) and business needs. We

created a new fully responsive version of the store with a goal of optimizing online sales channels as well as redesigning the layout. All these combined resulted in growing traffic from mobile devices.

One of the recent milestones we worked on was a UX audit which was a precondition for complete re-design of the layout and making the new site fully responsive (RWD). UX audit was to capture relevant information that would support the process of redesigning in a smart way i.e. adjusting to the users by noticing and understanding their behaviour patterns, annoyances and mistakes. During this process, we relied mostly on data gathered via Hotjar. Within 2 000 sessions, we gathered: 1 411 desktop, 214 tablet, 375 phone unique sessions. This served as a solid ground for identifying less-than-perfect places and needed UX tweaks and in the later stage, wireframing of the new service and creating final UI design.

Volkswagen - a non-profit voting system for schools Image

Volkswagen - a non-profit voting system for schools

Merixstudio was responsible for developing the project from scratch covering full-fledged web development consultancy, quality assurance, software development and design services. One of the main milestones to achieve were: creating a full design for the website, implementing a bot-resistant voting system for schools (one of the ways to achieve it was integration with an SMS

gateway for increased verification), allowing schools to submit applications via a website, creating a back-office panel for managing applications and voting process.

It’s worth mentioning that Szkoła Małego Inżyniera is just one of many projects that Volkswagen decided to develop with Merixstudio during our longstanding collaboration. There were, among others, websites supporting their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programmes such as “Niebieskie Granty” - a website for raising ecological awareness in local communities including advanced implementations of JavaScript, Ajax and CSS3, Google Maps API and Drupal CMS. or “Mini Handball” - a website for promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical activity with Drupal CMS and beautiful front-end JavaScript animations.

Omnigame - superior gaming solutions for a leading Danish online casino Image

Omnigame - superior gaming solutions for a leading Danish online casino

Merixstudio supported Omnigame in turning their UI design into powerful and superb casino games played by thousands of gamers. Throughout nearly two-year-long cooperation, we developed four state-of-the-art slot games.

The core game developed was Grand Prix - single-seater fast-paced auto racing wrapped up with sleek graphics and smart animations. The game incorporated both skill and

excitement that gave players an experience that was very close to driving a race car on the World Championship. It consisted of three smaller ones that were supposed maximized players engagement and encouraged to heavy use of the game.
To enhance the animation effect, we used Spine - 2D skeletal animation software. Spine facilitated the efficiency and workflow both for creating powerful animation and for integrating it into games’ design. One of the key assets of this solution is the smaller size (standard animation requires an image for each frame, however, Spine-fuelled animations store only the small bone data - attaching images to bones, then animating the bones) and smoothness of the animations (Spine animations use interpolation so animation is always as smooth as the frame rate - they can be displayed in slow motion with no loss in quality).
The whole software development was in very close collaboration with clients’ in-house team, especially their proxy Product Owner that used to set priorities and direction for the development. We kicked off the project with two frontend developers and a project manager and kept this set-up for most of the collaboration time. This was long-term cooperation covering both intensive full-time development and maintenance.
Up your eGame - a premium community platform for gamers Image

Up your eGame - a premium community platform for gamers

The Client reached out to us with a rough product idea and an outline of its key objectives. Prior to kicking-off the development we needed to get to the stage when we have a clear shape of the product and the solid action plan, therefore, we decided to begin with an online Product Discovery Workshop participated by the founders and multidisciplinary Merixstudio’s team.

In the workshop, we focused on

verifying the basic assumptions of the product and making sure that we have a perfect understanding of its goals, business model, users, and value proposition. After identifying loopholes, generating new ideas and adjusting them to specific users and business needs, we had a proper ground for crafting the final solution. In the end, we had the service described in the form of story map capturing the product shape and logic, defined MVP’s scope and development roadmap. It seems easier said than done - in fact, the process was very intensive and required effective management due to the number of stakeholders involved as well as time difference and the potential feedback loop it could cause.

Next, we proceeded with working on the MVP version of the project starting with wireframing that was kept 4 sprints ahead of the proper development. As regards the management, we followed the Scrumban methodology accompanied by Scrum events such as Daily, Review, plus ad-hoc Plannings, Refinements, and Retrospectives. Throughout 1 year of development, the team headcount varied from 2 to 9 people in its peak time and the composition included product owner, UX and UI designers, QA, front-end and back-end engineers.

Humanitrack - a non-profit community platform supporting humanity's missions Image

Humanitrack - a non-profit community platform supporting humanity's missions

Humanitrack is a platform for uniting communities to collaborate with the world, to formulate a plan and to push progress. Humanitrack is a progress tracking tool and accelerator for an unlimited number of long-term humankind goals, for example, all of the UN's Global Goals such as radicating thirst and hunger, extending lifespan, increasing quality of life, greatly reducing the cost of green energy or

stabilizing the climate.

Merixstudio was initially occupied with developing an MVP for a platform yet our role has later evolved into developing a polished early beta version. A priority for the client was tobuild a working MVP of the platform on a budget without sacrificing any of the necessary features. The MVP needed to be exceptional as the platform and community around would define the client’s company as well would serve as a foundation for testing the core user base. Merixstudio was also responsible for designing the UI (using Material-UI) as well as the DevOps operations.

The team headcount in the peak time was 8 - it consisted of a project manager, QA specialist,  three frontend developers, a Python developer, a DevOps engineer as well as a UI and a UX lead. We followed SCRUM-driven development.

One of the most significant milestones to achieve was designing the highly-engaging platform’s mechanics and finding ways to encourage users to return and keep them engaged on the website. To take advantages of our possibilities and work out the best possible solutions, we decided to run an open user-centred design thinking workshop as a part of the World Usability Day Poznań 2018.  We selected 14 UX-enthusiasts as well as invited Humanitract‘s founders to collaborate during an intensive day-long workshop session. See the full coverage.

BrandSync - a Django development of a cloud-based application Image

BrandSync - a Django development of a cloud-based application

BrandSync is a cloud-based, PIM (Product Information Management) solution dedicated to both e-commerce and brick and mortar industries -  retailers and producers that covers three major problematic aspects of distribution: gathering and processing products’ data, standardisation and unification of data for all of supply chain participants, and further data circulation (both internal and external).

The

solution was a dedicated application that enables users to input to the database a precise description of their products. Combined with a great number of products in the base, it allows for a very expanded data exchange between the subjects within the supply chain.

One of the major challenges was to combine simplicity with flexibility and create as user-friendly tools as possible. The final product has a clear, intuitive interface with custom-made designs that provides the variety of functionalities and makes the high volume data management easy and effective.

Our technology stack of choice was: Angular, Django (the Python framework), and PostgreSQL. The whole app is hosted on AWS. Additional services and tools we’ve used include: RabbitMQ and Celery, Redis and Elastic. For CI/CD (Continuous Development/Continuous Integration) purposes, we’ve used Docker and Jenkins.

Happy Scribe - a high-end dynamic SaaS platform Image

Happy Scribe - a high-end dynamic SaaS platform

Happy Scribe is a high-end dynamic SaaS platform for researchers, journalists, podcasters, and media production companies. It uses state-of-the-art machine-learning models to transcribe audio/video files uploaded by users automatically. Happy Scribe is used in a plethora of different industries, whether it be in education all the way through to the entertainment.

We were tasked with,

among other features, the development of a simple and functional player for video or audio. Apart from simply playing the material, users can also control it by clicking on text to jump to the specific point in audio or video simultaneously.

The next thing we were responsible for was making the transcribed text as clear for users as possible. That’s why we introduce speaker Identification, which allows users to set the identification to differentiate between speakers.

Another problem we needed to tackle was how to help users to easily navigate the text when playing the transcribed file. We achieved that by adding the function of highlighting the text (similar to karaoke), which is synchronized with the spoken word. In addition to that, we introduced comments, which also are based on highlighting particular parts of the text.

One of the most interesting features we implemented was also a confidence Heatmap, which defines the value in the audio/video file transcribed into text.

RMS - a Django-based Recital Management system built for The Juilliard School Image

RMS - a Django-based Recital Management system built for The Juilliard School

We supported The Juilliard School in building and launching an advanced Recital Management System (RMS), which helps students and school staff organize recitals. Our role involved backend (Django) and front-end coding. In the beginning, front-end was based on the Metronic theme, but later during the project, we created new designs of RMS and implemented it into the application. Our work in the project included integrations

with external services such as Panopto (using SOAP-based integration), which is a system for scheduling recital recordings, integration of Colleague system (REST API), and integration with Performance Event Calendar previously created by us before. We also developed a canvas-based Stage Composer application, which allows students to use front-end tool to create stage setup - either using one of the predefined settings or custom adjusted ones. The final product requires the input of data such as selection of the stage that students wish to perform on, when and what time of day they want to do it, what instrument are they playing and how exactly the scene is supposed to look (for the last option we are creating the HTML5 based Stage Composer).  The system was also equipped with an internal notification system for students and teachers, tool to create dynamic forms and other mechanisms meant to simplify the whole process of preparing a recital. SportsHi - the React Native mobile application Image

SportsHi - the React Native mobile application

SportsHi React Native mobile app is a great example of a lifestyle-driven business concept. Founded by an after-hour rugby coach living in New York, the application allows the users (Coaches and Players) to schedule their training sessions and games as well as communicate with each other. This project is also a great example of both the lean approach and agile followed development.

App

founders were managing the project from their New York-based headquarters, while the development took place mainly in Merixstudio’s office in Poznań, Poland. The 6-hours difference was easily overcome by planning weekly meetups during East Coast morning hours. The daily communication was crucial, as the founding team consisted of a CTO (tech lead), who was collaborating with our Frontend, Backend, and Quality Assurance specialists. In addition to that, the UX designer was overseeing the implementation of the design from the office located in the Big Apple.

The whole development process showcased a great advantage of React Native as a multi-platform, JavaScript-based technology, as well as Python/Django as a backend technology. With the development of the Django-fuelled backend running smoothly we were sure that this is the most optimal technology for the projects of such nature. Beyond that, the team worked with of Redux, Web Sockets, and Django REST framework to deliver the application that went live in the summer of 2018.

Everclassic Image

Everclassic

Everclassic is a leading Danish online marketplace for vintage, Scandinavian design including furniture, ceramics, art, and other design objects. It is a large-scale platform including both online auctions and a marketplace. One of the main challenges for Merixstudio was to successfully take over the project from a team from Ukraine making it smooth and downtime-free. The key milestone achieved by Merixstudio was developing an

English version of the website to help our partner thrive on the international market. This was proceeded by completing the unfinished legacy tasks such as rewriting Zend to Phalcon as well as Magento integration and performance optimization. The team composition was flexible and adjustable to the current project’s needs. We kicked off with one back-end developer and PM, then, on peak time scale up to four team members adding a front-end developer and QA specialist. The Client and Merixstudio’s manager shared the responsibility for the project management distributing it between the product-vision and process-coordination parts. Stack: Magento 2, Phalcon, Laravel, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript Full protfolio: http://bit.ly/EverclassicClutch

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We offer services for private and institutional clients that need financing, especially in the real estate business. We also provide trade financing and other services in the finance industry.

What is your position?

I work as a part-time associate and was responsible for our new website. I was given the task of evaluating possible service providers to create and design a website for us and then leading that project within the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

Our existing website was out of date, and we needed a new design.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of your involvement with Merixstudio in detail.

Merixstudio helped us with everything. We started with the concept. They asked what our idea was and what we expected from the new website. They then created some designs for us to evaluate. Then, they developed the front end and the back end of the website, which includes a contact form feature. The CMS [content management system] did almost everything for us except marketing. The website was built on Drupal.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

In the beginning, we were looking at local companies in Switzerland, but noticed a huge price gap between the providers here and those in Poland. We began looking in Poland, and we were impressed by the services and projects Merixstudio had on their website. They also sent us some examples of their work, so we decided that we wanted to give them a try because their price was better than we could find for a similar service here in Switzerland.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

We've spent somewhere between $10,000 and $50,000 working with Merixstudio.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Merixstudio last January [2015]. The goal was to have the project done by the end of the second quarter of this year. We're a bit late and consequently only launched the website in September [2015]. This was partly their fault because they had one minor delay, but most of the delay was from our side because we added some late changes to both the front and back ends. During the process of development, we received some new requests, which they had to implement. Now, most of the work is done. It's on us to deliver the next step, which is to translate the web page.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics, metrics or other feedback from this engagement?

We've had more visitors to the website. The new website much more user-friendly than our old site, and it incorporates our corporate design, which was important to us.

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

Merixstudio had good project management overall, and the quality of work was great.

What distinguishes Merixstudio from other providers?

It was really the uncomplicated relationship between our businesses. We had very good and very productive talks and calls between us. Even though we never met in person, I think the result doesn't lack the quality that we would have expected if we had been able to meet face to face with an agency here in Switzerland.

Is there anything Merixstudio could have improved or done differently?

This was my first website project, so perhaps at the beginning they could have provided a bit more of an orientation on how such a development process normally occurs. Maybe we could have discussed all the possible changes earlier on the front end development and not have waited until the back end was finished. If we had known more about the front end changes, we would have been able to finish the project sooner.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a business center development company in Norway. The concept is to build up a business park where all the facilities will be concentrated in one place. The area of our park is 1,700 square meters [approximately 5,600 square feet]. We have a commercial area, niche shops, a hairdresser, restaurant, bar, and so on. Our mission is to create a concentrated place where employees have everything they need.

What is your position?

I'm the social relations manager of the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

We wanted to make a booking system for our tenants so it would be easy to reserve services through the website.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

Merixstudio was responsible for website development and setting up a booking system within the website. They redesigned our website using Symfony, a PHP framework. They created booking featured for our business center, gaming center, and restaurant. Those three systems were integrated to our internal system.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

We had relationships with various developers from Norway and Poland. We met with them and spoke to them about our project. We chose Merixstudio because they are very professional, responsive and offered a lower cost for the project than other vendors.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The cost of the project is confidential.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Merixstudio in November 2014, and the project wrapped in June 2015.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

We don't have anything to show right now because we launched the system in July 2015. We have tenants in two buildings, and room for up to 2,000 workers in our business buildings. The first building is almost full with around 960 tenants. Roughly 80 percent of them use our web application.

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

The Merixstudio team was responsive, responsible and professional. The quality of website was very good. They'll find solutions to any problems you will face.

What distinguishes Merixstudio from other providers?

The first thing that sets them apart is price. They use the most modern and sophisticated technologies, but only charge a fraction of the cost compared to other providers. They also have a great CMS [content management system], that anyone can use without a lot of IT [information technology] knowledge.

Is there anything Merixstudio could have improved or done differently?

Sometimes, the work was a little bit delayed, but it wasn't so crucial for us. It wasn't a problem.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a small software development company that focuses on custom development. We work largely with digital media companies that have digital content but, in the last years, we've been working with health and fitness companies.

What are your position and responsibilities?

I am the director of project management and general manager. I run all the day-to-day operations of our business.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

We're a small firm, and we work largely with contractors. We had a bigger project come up, and we wanted to have a full-time team dedicated to the project. We had worked with Merixstudio in the past, before I joined the company. They were a rational choice for this project.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

The largest project I've done with them was for one of our largest clients – a fitness studio in New York. We built custom software for them that spans across multiple different platforms. We built software that allowed users to sign up and schedule a class in a fitness studio.

We did some in-depth custom development work, using algorithms that we built on our end. We sent that over to Merixstudio, and they used that to build software and algorithms of their own. We built it into a complex web application as well as an API [application programming interface] that allowed it to communicate with the platform from multiple different internet-connected devices. Out of respect for the client, I can't get into too much more detail about it, but it was custom development work, built from scratch. Merixstudio provided great support and development for us throughout the project.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

I don't know how my company initially got in contact with Merixstudio. For this project, I knew they had all the necessary skills and ability to scale up on a project quickly. That's why we ended up going with Merixstudio.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The size of the last project was between $50,000 and $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership is ongoing. At the moment, we're not undergoing heavy development with them, but they still do a couple of hours here and there for us as we need support for some of the products that they built for us. The next time we have a big project come through, they'll probably be my first point of contact to get that built.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I can give some general trends, but I don't want to go into too many details to respect my client's privacy. The products that we built for our client are getting between 50,000 and 100,000 hits a month. Their whole business runs on the platform that we built for them. The application has to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It can be used online as well as onsite, so it's a very usage-heavy application. Our clients haven't had any issues with bugs in the system, or the system going down. They are very happy with it.

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

They have been excellent.

What distinguishes Merixstudio from other providers?

I enjoy working with Merixstudio. They're pleasant, and we can always get in touch with them when needed. They do good work, and they are very reliable.

Is there anything Merixstudio could have improved or done differently?

I can't think of anything specific, but they're always very receptive to feedback. When clients have issues, they're very quick to solve them.

Merixstudio earned praise for their dedicated professionalism and sophisticated development skills. Faced with a complex implementation, the team delivered outstanding results and built a trusting partnership.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Could you please describe your company?

My company, Wiadomości Rolnicze Polska, is a Polish agricultural newspaper. We have print and online editions that provide the newest information for people in the agricultural market.

What is your role in the company?

I am a graphic designer in the company. I'm also responsible for any IT [information technology] projects that my firm undertakes.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What was the business challenge that you were trying to address when you approached Merixstudio?

We were trying to implement e-commerce applications onto our site. We wanted to create a web market for farmers, where they could buy and sell machinery. Our aim was to be more competitive with other machinery markets in Europe.

What was your process for selecting Merixstudio?

We sent offers to a few firms. After receiving responses from a couple of the companies, we chose Merixstudio because they had a good portfolio, and they offered us a good price.

SOLUTION

Can you talk about the scope of the project?

This project was our biggest undertaking since starting the newspaper. Merixstudio worked on the back end development of our website. The whole site was created on Drupal CMS [content management system], with advanced modules for ad categorization, filtering and positioning on listings. Merixstudio prepared script that is "translating" the structure of our database to databases in other web markets. Right now, we can import and export data to two outside sources.

Can you give a sense of the size of the initiative?

The project in its entirety took about a year to complete. By the end of the project, the cost was around $8,000.

When was the project completed?

They delivered a working product to us in February 2015. Merixstudio is still providing us with some additional work around maintenance, bug fixes and additional features.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

When working with Merixstudio, was there anything unique or special about them?

We worked with other firms that provide similar services to Merixstudio. Merixstudio is the most professional firm I've worked with. We had had some bad developers before we brought them on board, but Merixstudio did a great job completing the tasks we gave them.

Is there any area that they could improve upon or that you would do differently?

Merixstudio provided exactly what we asked them to provide. I would probably have done some things differently. Right now, we are importing and exporting data to two databases that are similar. The problem is that our database has a different structure from the other databases. It would have been more cost efficient if we created a database structure identical to the others.

The new site boasted a mobile-friendly design and significantly improved response times. It drew in an impressive 40,000 monthly visitors. Merixstudio impressed with their communication, work ethic, and collaborative acceptance of feedback. They excelled at delivering on a rigid deadline.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

Our company is SoftwareONE. We are a global software portfolio management company. We support our customer base in more than 65 countries in all the aspects related to software licensing.

What is your position?

I'm the global enterprise content manager. I'm responsible for our public website and other areas related to enterprise content management.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

We decided to rebuild our public website. Our website was outdated, was not responsive and the message that the site conveyed about our company wasn't accurate. It was based on obsolete technology and hosted locally, so we had a hard time securing fast responses to clients in remote countries.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

When we approached them, we already had some graphical design work for the website. We asked Merixstudio to build the website using those designs. They studied the designs and offered suggestions on how to improve them. We then defined what the structure of our pages should be, what text we want on each page, what pictures we wanted. Once we approved of their plans, Merixstudio developed the site. We gave them a very strict timeline: the entire project had to be completed in not more than 60 calendar days. They built the site in four language – English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese – to support as many of our clients as possible.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

We researched companies all around Europe. We reached out to 10 of those companies and discussed the project that we had in mind and our timeline: 60 days. Merixstudio was the only company that ensured us that they could make it happen. Other companies wanted to sacrifice quality for time, or rejected the timeline.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The size of the project is in the $10,000 to $50,000 range.

What is the status of this engagement?

The site launched in June 2015. Our relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

The response online time has been much faster since the launch of the new site. For example, our response time in India decreased from 15 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Everyone is happy with the look and feel and with the mobile support. In terms of unique visitors, we had 40,000 hits last month, averaging 4,000 per day. That is a significant increase.

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

They did a great job. We gave them a tight timeline, and they performed well under pressure. It required discipline from them and us in terms of communication, timely feedback, and timely reaction to feedback. It all worked very smoothly. Everything was delivered, and we didn't have any major issues. Of course, there were some minor corrections we were requesting, but that's normal.

What distinguishes Merixstudio from other providers?

Merixstudio was very flexible and open to our opinions. They worked very fast without compromising quality and stuck to tough deadlines.

Are there areas in which they could improve, or things you might do differently?

At times, decisions were made too quickly. I, sometimes, wished they had taken a day or two to think things through instead of making quick decisions. That being said, the project was great, but it's easy to look back and say, "That wasn't the best idea."

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a strategic consultancy firm in Poland. We mainly advise young, family companies. Our company was also part of a European Union project, for which we created documents, such as books, manuals, and audiobooks, that advise young companies that can't afford to hire consultants.

What is your position and responsibilities?

I am the marketing and public relations lead of the firm.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

We had a WordPress website that didn't work the way we wanted it to work. It was quite old, and we needed a developer to update and improve it. We also wanted to add a functionality that would allow businesses to register for our events directly on our site. We partnered with Merixstudio to help us improve our website.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

Merixstudio was in charge of the complete rebuilding of our site. They helped us improve the design and the content of our WordPress website. They also added various admin abilities, so we can allow various authors and experts to post and publish content directly onto our site, which was not the case prior to the update. Merixstudio also advised us on SEO [search engine optimization] strategy and best practices when setting up the layout of the site.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

We got recommendations for various developers from business partners and colleagues. We did research on those companies and found that three of them had impressive portfolios. I wrote an offer statement describing our project and sent it to those companies. Merixstudio gave us a proposal for the project, and we thought it was really good. That's why we chose them, and I'm glad we did.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The size of the project was around $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project was completed in March 2015, but Merixstudio is still maintaining the website and advising us on best practices.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I don't have any metrics to share at this time. The website is mostly for branding and representation purposes.

How did Merixstudio perform?

I am very satisfied with Merixstudio's performance. They did everything perfectly. I'd be happy to hire them again for future projects.

What distinguishes Merixstudio from other providers?

The Merixstudio team was very responsive and reliable throughout the whole project.

Are there areas in which they could improve, or things you might do differently?

We were not always the first on the waiting list for them. As clients, we always want to be their number one priority, but that can't be the case for everyone.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a ceramic tile manufacturer from Poland.

What is your position?

I am the digital marketing manager.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Merixstudio?

Our website was outdated. We were looking to redesign it in order to represent our brand better. That's why we partnered with Merixstudio for the project.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

Merixstudio created a responsive website for us using Drupal CMS [content management system]. Merixstudio was involved in creating five different versions of the website as our website is available in five different languages. We provided various mockups, statistical documentation and referral documentation as the original concept of the project. Merixstudio used those concepts to design, develop, and test the website. They have been fully responsible for all of the technical aspects of the project. Merixstudio has also created dedicated sites for our business partners, such as architects and suppliers.

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

We had already approached Merixstudio in the past during one of our earlier projects. They made a really good impression on us, so we asked them to provide us with a concept and an offer for our new website. They had great idea for the project, so we chose them once again.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The size of the project is confidential.

What is the status of this engagement?

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

We mainly use the website for branding purposes. We do not have an e-commerce functionality built into the site, so we don't keep track of the traffic, but we are very pleased with the results of the project.

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

Merixstudio is an outstanding company. They provided us with great design and development skills. I really would recommend them. Overall, they are a fantastic supplier of IT [information technology] services.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I'm an instructional designer. I've been overseeing the production of digital resources and checking content that accompany secondary school and primary school textbooks.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Merixstudio?

We needed digital resources to accompany math textbooks we were making for students ages 14 to 16. They had the capacity to make the type of flexible tools that we were looking for.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

We provided Merixstudio with our requirements. We wanted users to be able to edit the tools, so the tools had to be flexible. Merixstudio developed wireframes based on the concepts that we provided for them. They developed the tools using HTML5, CSS3, and SVG. They also worked on the frontend design and user experience.

What was your process for selecting Merixstudio?

We've done various projects with Merixstudio through the years. They're a trusted vendor.

BACKGROUND

Our company sells luxury home products. We are a pure e-commerce company. We work in Norway and are expanding into the Nordic region.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I'm the founder and managing director.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Merixstudio?

We were looking for a developer to build a custom e-commerce platform for us.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Once we settled on the exact concept that we wanted for the platform, Merixstudio developed, tested, and launched the platform. We took benchmark sites that were similar to the functionality that we wanted to have, and we used those platforms as the foundation for our platform. They built the platform using Magento.

What was your process for selecting Merixstudio?

I used to work in an IT [information technology] company. I called a former colleague of mine and asked him if he had done any projects with Eastern European companies. He gave us two recommendations, and we contacted both of them. After speaking with both companies, we chose Merixstudio.

Can you give a sense of the size of the initiative?

I think Merixstudio performed well in terms of coding and back-end technology. They are very good at what they do.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?
