Key clients:

Magnani works with enterprise-level businesses that are committed to providing exceptional digital brand experiences for their employees and their customers.

Kemper Branding Image

Kemper Branding

The Challenge: Kemper, a national leader in providing auto, home, life and health insurance solutions, had performed a series of acquisitions spanning its lines of business. The company needed to update its brand positioning and brand architecture to better reflect its growth and evolution. And it needed to launch in 90 days.

The Insight: Though Kemper was undergoing a lot of positive change, customers, agents and

brokers long for stability and consistency, and the brand needed to provide comfort as much as inspire.

The Solution: Magnani developed Kemper’s new brand positioning, “Affordable protection in an ever-changing world”. This built upon Kemper's commitment to keeping costs down by providing accessible and affordable insurance solutions for policyholders with unique insurance needs.

Magnani designed Kemper’s new bold logo in navy blue and red to showcase Kemper's strength and stability in the marketplace, embodying the characteristics of the company’s committed team of employees and the qualities of trust, strength and reliability.

Molina App Image

Molina App

Challenge: It’s easier to develop a mobile engagement strategy when you start on a mobile platform. Working from a desktop-only functionality, Molina wanted to create a way for patients and their providers to connect on the go.

Solution: Work from the ground up to create an app that would allow health system members to access their records, communicate with their care team, manage appointments and prescriptions, even

flash their member ID card without having to carry it around. Then get the message out and show them how everything works.
CNA.com Image

CNA.com

Challenge: Legacy web properties and years of ad hoc additions had left CNA with a thorough, but thoroughly unusable, online digital experience. Abandon rates were high. Conversions (agent referrals) and satisfaction ratings were low. No user sign-in capabilities were, or would be, available.

Insight: If customers have trouble finding the right path to relevant coverages and service, maybe the relevant coverages and

services should find a path to the customer.

Solution: Provide an experience, curated on the fly, that quickly matches and presents to every user only those coverages and solutions that matter to them and their business—and then, connects them to an agent, seamlessly.

@Properties Image

@Properties

Challenge: They had a website. What they lacked was traffic. They needed a streamlined user experience to help guide real estate buyers and sellers to the information they needed, faster.

Solution: Create a seamless user experience, starting with a new website skin that would make higher-end properties pop. Streamline web applications into intuitive, self-contained locations. Improve map view and functionality and

search. Make it easier for everyone to find what they need.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of Marketing for a wholesale and specialty insurance distributor. We interact with insurance carriers to bring unique, niche products to market and offer mass distribution.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

I hired them to conduct a brand research study to measure both our company’s brand awareness as well as our competitors’. Using the data they provided, I planned to create a targeted marketing strategy.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

At the beginning of the project, they helped me flesh out the scope of the research and how I would use the data. We developed a two-part study, the first half being qualitative and the second part being quantitative. We discussed the surveys, structuring each question to ensure that the results would be informative and useful. Going into this project, it was very clear what I should expect from each survey. I then provided them with a list of target clients for them to question.

First, we conducted informational interviews with internal employees to ensure that we had their input and could identify key hypotheses we could test. Then we conducted a blind study with several of our independent insurance agents and brokers. Though this part of the survey was supposed to produce quantitative results, we received a lot of insight into what our audience thinks about before selecting a wholesale specialty broker.

Magnani would summarize the results for me after each test. Once everything was completed, they analyzed the data and created a full research report. They even did a separate breakdown for one of our largest clients to make sure the data wasn’t skewed and to give us additional insight into what they wanted.

What is the team composition?

Christie Hogan Hutchinson was my primary point of contact, and she brings a lot of experience from other projects.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

I chose them because I’ve worked with them before at another company, so I trusted their research capabilities. They’ve also done research for my current company before, so I knew that everyone else would trust their methods and results.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $60,000 on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from October 2018–January 2019. Despite the holiday season, they completed the project very quickly.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everyone was impressed with the quality of the information and the thoroughness of the study. I presented the results at our annual sales meeting, and our president was very pleased, both in our ranking, but also with the incredible insights we received. I’ve been using the data since the end of the project; their work has been invaluable.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They make everything so easy. They set very clear timelines, making it simple to plan ahead. We have regular check-ins and they’re super responsive to questions, but we also always had access to the information.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They brought a lot of creativity to the project. They work across various industries and can mix experience and expertise with flexibility and the freshness we wanted for our project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any recommendations for this project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When people aren’t satisfied with the results, it’s because their project goals changed. To get the best results, be very clear with how you intend to use the research while remaining open to their suggestions.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m head of product and new markets at a global tech innovation lab that targets communication services providers around the world. We innovate new product offerings that member companies can plug into their product roadmap and roll out to their customers.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

When we engaged Magnani, we were undertaking an extremely ambitious project at the heart of new product development. We were trying to understand how users perceived the value of broadband and what could be changed to benefit them. The main goal was to differentiate broadband as a service that can optimally serve user needs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

In our time together, they’ve taken care of branding strategy, ideation, imagining a future world, traditional qualitative research, precise quantitative research, experience design, etc. Their qualitative research included focus groups around the United States on multiple projects, allowing us to do some discovery work which led to the production of valuable innovations for our members. Those types of studies are designed to get to the heart of a future product’s potential.

They also partnered with outside agencies when necessary to determine the path toward best possible results. This effectively supports new product development on the innovation end of our company. We’ve had multiple engagements over our four-year partnership, touching various technologies and at least eight areas of topical interest. After they conduct research, we regroup and invent… and sometimes pivot new product ideas.

One of the most unique projects we took on with them revolved around various aspects of what life at home looks like for those in the baby boomer generation. In order to tackle this, we brought in experts in healthcare, psychiatry, generational expertise, UX design, futurism, and product design into an immersive area where they could imagine solutions together. We used their ideas to inform the sort of innovations we wanted to create for boomers at home, healthcare at home and aging in place.

For example, we looked at how homes can become responsive to changing needs in a predictive way while gathering and learning from personal data. We wanted to create experiences for people on top of broadband, wireless technologies, or other kinds of IoT sensors that allow the home to be responsive to the owner as well as become a rich environment for new experiences. Doing this requires a holistic view of the user and their future space, in order to create networking technologies that will enable them and ultimately enhance the lives of people. Magnani helped us capture that viewpoint.

What is the team composition?

We work with Justin (President, Magnani), Felicia (former COO, Magnani), Gail (Marketing Consultant & Coordinator, Magnani) who’s very hands-on with qualitative research, Alex (Market Research Analyst, Magnani), Christy (VP Strategy & Account Planning, Magnani) who handles strategy and client success, and Liz (Client Strategy Director) who has taken charge of more recent engagements.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

I’ve known Justin for many years, and the two of us went to business school together. We have mutual friends who have used Magnani on projects across several industries.  I had heard great things about Magnani’s work from them. When I reached my current position and had the opportunity to focus on new product development for emerging tech, one of the first phone calls was to Magnani to discuss how we might partner on primary research. We interviewed several other service providers, but their proposals and process always stood out to us. We saw the potential for good results, so we hired them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in 2015, and our engagements are ongoing. We don’t work with them continuously, but we’ve completed more than a dozen projects together.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the time we’ve produced research with them, the demand for the results has increased considerably among member companies. Every time we’ve provided a readout of their findings and our own insights, members have responded with positive, favorable feedback. While we don’t release results publicly often, we have occasionally blogged or posted video snippets of findings. Those have received a good amount of traction.

But, the greatest indicator of their success is that we successfully learned about users and let that inform our innovation development and market and product requirements. That’s what our team is designed to do, and they’ve enabled our success.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

Day-to-day, they made sure everything was organized and well-designed. They coordinated much of our activity with external parties as well, which can be very difficult when dealing with different schedules. They took care of everything logistically, so project management was basically invisible to us.

While we didn’t use a specific project management tool, we used calendar apps to coordinate schedules, email, Zoom, and other video conferencing tools. We also share a lot of data in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. We chose to leverage what we typically use to get the process mapped. They might use additional tools on their end, though.

They’ve taken a lot of project management off my plate, so I can spend more time in the transformational zone. The team has granted us visibility into their process and are always responsive to changes and unforeseen circumstances. They’re very detailed and forward-thinking. For instance, they always knew when we needed to make contingency plans.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team always generated usable, actionable recommendations based on our highly-collaborative process. I expect partners to understand us as a unique client, especially given our corporate structure and dynamic industry, as well as our focus on innovation. I don’t think many methodologies address the future as much as they do the present. But, working with Magnani, we were able to shape the discovery journey and adapt based on our findings.

The collaboration was key to the project as well. I’ve worked with bigger design firms in the past and come from a strategy consulting background. I’m familiar with the tendency to lead the client through a predetermined process without personalizing it to their needs. However, Magnani always took an integrated approach that allows the client to truly be part of the process without pushing their own frameworks.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I wish they had a multi-market presence. It would be great if they could bring together clients in California, New York, Seattle, Austin, etc., and it would provide a big opportunity for growth. Having said that, I think their current pricing is much more efficient than what I’d likely be paying on the West or East Coast.

Magnani is incredibly organized and talented, striking a nice balance between flexibility and sticking to project plans. Their work resulted in increased site traffic, monthly leads, and intranet usage.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of strategy and execution for a large commercial insurance entity. I focus on our brand presence, enabling marketing strategies, and leveraging technology to support our internal operations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

We needed a partner to help us extend our brand reach through digital means. We also needed a firm to work on our brand strategy, marketing, and communication execution.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially enlisted Magnani to design our web experience and external content. They helped us shape how we market to potential clients and bring them into digitally-enabled campaigns. From there, Magnani also worked on our intranet, including UI and customer experience. Now, Magnani is involved in both our intranet and extranet.

For one project, we asked them to create a few possible design ideas, and they used visualization techniques to create low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes. They then determined which technologies would be best to implement said designs and created a high-quality curated content journey for our users. When someone visits our site, they give us a bit of information, and the site then adjusts to become hyper-personalized to their needs. Beyond that, they also helped us choose vendors and other third-party partners to best reach our goals.

What is the team composition?

We mainly interacted with our account manager, but we also had regular check-ins with their president. The team size adjusted, depending on our project, but we also worked with a creative director, technology strategist, designers, and developers. They always made sure to scale to meet our needs.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

They’re a local company that’s near our office.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $3 million–$4 million in total.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April 2015–July 2017. We still sometimes work on projects together.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

When we launched our external site, the traffic volume went up about 50% from quarter to quarter. Our number of leads per month went up about an average of 30%–50%, month over month, and our intranet usage probably tripled in the first year.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They were organized and tracked every major milestone while also remaining flexible. They were great at anticipating risks and preemptively addressing them. We communicated via email, phone, video conference, and face-to-face meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re big enough to attract good talent but small enough to pay attention to individual clients. We had a continuous relationship and were able to work with the same people over numerous projects, which optimized our partnership. They were critical in helping us achieve success.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could always do better at pushing back and challenging the status quo. That can sometimes be hard, but whenever they asked critical questions, it resulted in a more creative and innovative solution.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Have a general idea of what you want to accomplish but be willing to adjust. They’re good at working within your boundaries to meet project goals.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of new builds and transitions for Marriott International.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

We needed help with brand positioning and marketing.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We partner with them for strategic reasons like our hotel business positioning and strategizing on how to message and market a hotel, and also for tactical items. They do the creative execution across all communication channels online and offline. They’ve done videos, brochures, and building wraps. They’ve wrapped train cars for us. We had to redo a lobby, and they not only produced the video, but they contracted out seven projection systems and choreographed all the IT so that the seven projections worked together.

What is the team composition?

Jeff (Client Strategy Director, Magnani) serves as our single point of contact. He is the contact for all of our marketing managers. They’ve had various people in and out to help who are scaled based on the workload. We also worked with Sara (Vice President, Operations & Finance, Magnani) who is the head of account management. Those two shield us from having to talk to the creative people or the production people directly because something’s not right. They interpret and articulate our needs so clearly to their network of resources that we don’t have to get involved. Kat (Manager of Creative Services, Magnani) is as solid as they come. Production is always 110% spot on.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

Our former VP did a nationwide RFP for an agency to support our field needs. We needed a strategic agency that could help us with the big picture and also tactical support because there are hundreds of hotels that need individual support, whether it be collateral, videos, or menus that need to be uploaded.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in October 2005 and the work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were the head strategist as well as the execution arm for a six-year campaign that targeted our top four intermediary channels that booked business on behalf of Marriott. When we started working with them on this project in 2009, the intermediaries didn’t have Marriott as their number one choice. By the time the campaign ended six years later, not only were we number one market share across all four of those intermediary partners, but we grew revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars across those accounts. It was Magnani’s strategy, execution, and creativity that helped facilitate that relationship with those companies. It was an ongoing campaign that was structured brilliantly. Financially, that was a huge success for our organization.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re impeccable. They never miss a deadline. They’re receptive to all kinds of communications. We use email, phone calls, face-to-face, or however we want to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What I value most about Magnani is that they’re a true strategic business partner. They know as much about the hotel industry as I do. They’re very in tune with not only our business model, how we’re structured, our brands, and what needs to happen, but they’re also up on the trends of the industry. Magnani has a tremendous value. Since they’re a partner, their results are better. Since they’re ingrained in what we do and understand it, their creation is more effective. They don’t nickel and dime you and they work with you regardless of budget or project. I think the world of this agency.

They’re very innovative. They do just about any marketing solution. They come up with those new solutions and are able to really bring those to life from conception to execution.

Jeff not only knows all of our hotels, but he knows exactly what was done for them. He knows the strategies of each hotel. He’s like the steal trap. He’s amazing. I give Jeff four sentences and it comes back fabulous and exactly what we need. He’s able to interpret our needs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Hire them. They will make your life so much easier. They offer a tremendous value proposition. They will help you become more efficient at what you do. They’re on time and accurate. Allow them to be a partner in your agency and you’ll reap the benefits tenfold.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of journal publishing at the American Academy of Pediatrics. We’re a medical association that has about 66,000 pediatricians as members. I oversee five journal products, which includes our flagship journal, Pediatrics.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

We were originally looking to better understand our audience in terms of user preferences around reading and accessing medical and research content. We used the market research to find new ways of seamlessly integrating our content into the pediatricians’ clinical practice.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We commissioned Magnani to conduct eight focus groups around the country and gather the results in a way that was applicable to our business. We used this research to collaboratively formulate a new marketing strategy, which they also helped us execute. This included production of video content, prototypes for updates to the site, and eventually portions of the web development needed to reflect our changes in strategy. We’re also making changes to some of our print content according to the market research we collected.

What is the team composition?

We worked with an account manager, a market researcher, a designer, and a developer. Justin (President, Magnani) was involved in most of our conversations as well.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

We initially did an online search and met with several agencies. They gave a very clear presentation and asked questions about our business to fully understand what we were looking to achieve.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested between $500,000-$1 million total.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June of 2010 and completed the project in 2015.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were always impressed with their results and had very few edits on deliverables like site design prototypes. They took time to understand our business and the strategic drivers influencing our future direction. Our marketing team enjoyed working with them and were very impressed by the quality of their materials, especially the video content. It was a very positive experience overall.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. Our business is extremely busy, and they made sure we stayed on schedule throughout the project. They were very professional and easy to work with. We started with weekly meetings and later moved to bimonthly as the project scaled down. We had very few issues, but they were always responsive to changes when we needed them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Magnani is a true visionary in their industry. They take personal interest in businesses that they work with, and they always find new and innovative ways to approach challenges. They have remarkable talent, and I continue to work with them on projects as needed.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’ve always gone beyond on our projects. Travel to their office was slightly inconvenient because of our location, but it was worth the experience because they were a great team to work with all around.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to have your business plan and strategic direction prepared before meeting with an agency like Magnani. It facilitates more efficient dialogue in the beginning, which is crucial to a successful project.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the former VP of Brand and Customer Experience for a property and casualty insurance company that focused on commercial businesses. We sold products through independent agents and brokers to midsized organizations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

When we first started working with them, we had 36 independent business units, all responsible for their own profit and loss. This created a very fractured brand, and we worked with them to reestablish the branding for the entire organization.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped establish our visual image, including logos and our brand platform. They helped us research and establish what’s relevant to our customers, and helped organize meaningful, supportable logistics. They helped us break down our silos and build a cohesive brand.

In the early days, a lot of their work involved collateral development to support the whole organization, which moved toward integrating marketing campaigns and using new technologies.

What is the team composition?

On average, we had direct contact with about four members of their team—two from a design standpoint, one from an account standpoint, and one for planning. We worked with other account managers that supported different vertical industry segments, so there was a larger group that we didn’t have direct contact with.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

I led a search. We did some research, and sent out an RFP. From that, we interviewed about eight different companies. We asked them to provide us with a presentation, and selected Magnani based upon that process.

How much have you invested with them?

I can’t recall our exact investment over the course of our relationship, but our fees were in excess of $200,000–$300,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them sometime around 2003, and the company was still working with them when I left.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were very satisfied with them, and we stayed with them so long for a couple of reasons. They took ownership as much as we did, and they were committed to the success of our initiatives.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They were incredibly responsive. The entire time we worked with them, they were great about project management, and never missed deadlines. They laid out exactly what we could expect, and we always got it when we expected it.

I felt like they were a part of our team, and they made themselves accountable. From a creative standpoint, they were very good. They brought fresh ideas, and they understood the realities we had to deal with as part of a larger organization. They balanced their forward thinking with execution, and we could consistently demonstrate positive momentum. They also provided excellent value.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a truly integrated communications organization. We were always trying to take things to the next level together. They were really instrumental in helping us develop a really great digital strategy. They’re able to do a lot, and they bring that to the table.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were times during initiative development when we weren’t always in agreement, but we were always able to work through it. A couple of things didn’t come together on the first try, but that’s to be expected. Something were more successful than others, but where we really exceled was in our ability to solve problems together.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I was the marketing and brand manager for Molina Healthcare.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani?

We needed to improve our brand awareness and perception in all our key markets.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We went from no advertising to a lot of advertising. We created all those assets and put together how we were going to change perceptions. They were in charge of the all the creative. They did everything from strategy and research to devising the various campaigns. That included TV, radio, outdoor, and digital.

They designed and implemented a mobile app for us. They did research internally and externally to the UI/UX to architecture and testing. They work hand in hand with our IT department. Our IT department was not well-versed in frontend development so they came in and consulted with our team to make it happen. They helped us to connect a lot of our in-house systems. The app replicates our website, but it’s more consumer-friendly. Our website had to appeal to the States because our clients are on government-funded healthcare. The app is for people that need to find a doctor or a health insurance plan, have a question about their claim, etc.

We did a brand tracker study to track us all the way from awareness through use. We were able to track a lot of success. Magnani helped a lot from both the creative standpoint and the drafting. This included strategy and assistance with UI/UX.

What is the team composition?

It changed over time. The core account service team was always the same. There were 2–3 people depending on how busy we were at the time and what level of strategy we were in. We had different people helping out. Creatively, we had another 2 people. We did a lot of digital work with them and that required a different team in addition to typical account service people. There was a total of less than 10, but more than 5 people on the account.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

I worked for them a long time ago. I hired them twice since then. At Molina, we looked at 5 different agencies all over the country. We were looking for a certain size and creativity, and experience in healthcare was important for us. We also liked their digital work.

How much have you invested with them?

We have invested $20,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from May 2015 until August 2015.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It increased member satisfaction as well as people who were looking to answer their questions. Our website was not user-friendly before. It was very hopeful for all of our members.

We tracked the radio spot versus the TV spot versus the digital. They were huge. There were approximately 300% increases. It was massive. Part of that was the media buy and part of it was the creative. The creative was very well-received by focus groups. We did a brand awareness study that tracked their perceptions. It increased all marks substantially. It’s a new creative based on humor, which was a wild idea at the time.

They helped us accomplish something that was needed and not something we were able to get easily in-house. It would have taken us years to get there. This app gave us an opportunity to build the customer-friendly portal that we needed. We couldn’t have done it without them. We needed that frontend service. It led to other digital work as well. Our IT department reached out to them directly on a few things after that. It even helped train our internal IT department, which was interesting.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

It was really good. It was one of the main reasons that we initially hired them. I knew their project management performance. I knew I needed somebody that was going to manage me. At the time, we had a really small team. I used Magnani to augment my team. They didn’t miss deadlines and they stayed on me and helped us maintain our deadlines internally.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were good at pushing back on deadlines and good at standing firm on what they believed in to be the right experience. It was really helpful. At times, that meant pushing back on me or disagreeing with me. They did so with respect. They helped us get to something better by having those creative differences, especially on some of the digital work.

They showed strong leadership with the IT team by flying into town and sitting side by side with them when we weren’t even in the room. For them to help push that along was incredibly helpful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes you want them to push it even further than they did. We always worked through that and got to something that was really great.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the Director of Public Relations at Molina Healthcare. We're a large managed care health insurance company

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Magnani.

I wanted to build a more user friendly mobile version of our website and secure portal. The problem was that we had members trying to access these sites from their phones or other devices, and it was a bad experience. We wanted to bring someone in to improve that.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The initial website was built by our in-house IT team. There were no designers. We brought them in to improve the look and feel of the website, as well as to make the portal consistent with the public website and the rest of our brand.

They optimized the platform so now patients can request new ID cards, pay their bills, update their personal information, or change their primary care physician all on mobile devices. The goal was to reduce call volume and encourage self-service service; make it really easy.

We're a very highly regulated company, so there are a lot of rules in terms of Section 508 compliance and the reading level. They worked with us to make sure the website fit within those requirements so it was accessible for people with disabilities or who might not be as educated.

What is the team dynamic?

I had a project manager who was my point of contact on a day-to-day basis. I also worked with a couple of web developers. There were likely more people who worked on the project, but my interactions were limited to about 3 people.

How did you come to work with Magnani?

Magnani had worked with a few different people within the company, and had been involved in brand updates for the traditional marketing team. They were already familiar with the company, and we just went with them. We didn’t really look at other competitors.

What is the status of this engagement?

The general timeline only lasted several months. The project started in May 2015, and was complete in August 2015.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve been pleased and have gotten good feedback. People were already trying to use the website on mobile devices, and this made the whole experience a lot easier. It’s gone really well. There were no major issues in terms of usability of the platform; we’re always making little tweaks, but overall it was a smooth release.

How did Magnani perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very good at communicating with us. They’re very organized and did a good job of recapping with us where things stand in the project, as well as setting expectations and if there would be any delays.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were really good at collaborating with our IT team, who in the past were sort of weary against agencies. They felt more like partners, rather than just a vendor working on a project. They did a good job of working closely with our IT team to bring them along, and their developers even taught them a few things which have been very helpful to us in maintaining the website.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It is very important to pick a partner that understands your business, goals, and challenges going into the project. Magnani knew us pretty well and understood our business. Other agencies can come in thinking, sometimes very creatively, but not realistically about what's possible. I recommend finding a partner that is interested in learning about your business and make sure they deliver results for your goals.
