    We created PowerBI reports of customer feedback that we were looking to disseminate to a userbase. The reporting portal needed to be password protected and capable of handling row-level security in PowerBI. We needed a platform that would allow for the addition and subtraction of users, as well as compatibility on a range of devices. There was also a ticket tracking system incorporated that would allow field users to surface and resolve customer complaints.

    I mostly communicated with one point of contact at Loginworks, but she very clearly had a team of colleagues that were executing the work.

    Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

    While the final stages of the project are still being lightly refined, the portal went live to users and has been meeting their needs. We’ve needed the occasional bug fix, and Loginworks has been quick to respond. This project is the beginning of an ongoing relationship.

    We were admittedly a difficult client, with a need for quick turnaround on many tasks. They worked late hours at points of urgency and did a really great job.

For the backend, they connected it to the servers of the various financial institutions we use for payment.

    We haven’t launched the website to the public yet, so we haven’t tested their integration. With that said, it was a great experience.     They did a much better job than most of the other companies I’ve worked with. They were timely, professional, and driven. In terms of customer service, their entire team is nice, courteous, and receptive to feedback. Overall, it was a positive collaboration.

    We regularly spoke with our primary point person via Skype, but we had a larger group chat on Upwork. Someone from their team was always available. For example, our primary contact was away for a few hours, but we needed a status update. We reached out, and they handled it. If there was ever a miscommunication, they fixed it promptly. If we requested a demo, they sent one over as soon as they could.

    Are there any areas they could improve?

    No. If anything, they were too nice. It was a refreshing experience, and I hope to have more work for them in the future. It was a small project, but I’m confident in their abilities.

    Clients should nail down their specifications before the start of the engagement. Provide a lot of details, because what may seem obvious could potentially be overlooked. Make sure there is a mutual understanding regarding expectations for the final product and the deadline.

    Please describe your company and your position there.

    Real Estate Investar, listed on the Australian Security Exchange, provides software as a service (SaaS) investment software, reports, and data, as well as investment grade properties, to investors across Australia and New Zealand. My current position is COO, but I began with the company as a technical team leader in 2010 and still retain responsibility for the business’ technical sector.

    For what projects/services did your company hire Loginworks Softwares INC?

    Loginworks provides custom software development as well as long-term support and maintenance. 

    What were your goals for this project?

    The goals were: to add value and features to the property investment software; to increase our technical capacity while controlling costs due to budget limitations; and to improve our internal team's accessibility to a broader range of skill sets and specialist resources.

    SOLUTION

    How did you select this vendor?

    The relationship with Loginworks was in place before I joined the company. I was happy to continue the successful relationship as I stepped into technical management.  

    Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

    The majority of the custom projects require web technologies such as ASP, ASP.NET, and PHP, with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server as our database layer. Projects involve the integration of a number of APIs such as Google Maps and WalkScore. They also built custom enhancements into a complex enterprise CMS platform. 

    What was the team composition?

    A primary project manager supervises all projects and serves as our main point of contact for change requests or support tickets. Developers, testers, and designers compose a technical resource team of varying size, sometimes as many as eight. 

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

    Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

    Operating costs have decreased while our access to new skills has expanded. We now also have more scalable resourcing for larger pieces of technical work.

    How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

    We initially used our online project management tool, but have recently moved to TaskTrek, a Loginworks product. We have used them both to manage and monitor every size of project. 

    What did you find most impressive about this company?

    Their broad skill set makes them highly flexible in technology platforms and API knowledge. They provide good value in terms of cost per period for technical projects and effective management.

    Are there any areas where they can improve?

    Most of the challenges were related to insufficient requirements or scope creep and the time zone difference. Some pieces of work were not fully documented, resulting in extended timelines due to changes or retesting. Other times, a lack of change control or forced changes added cost or time to projects. The time zone difference was also a challenge for some of our technical team. Failing to raise issues or defects immediately can cost an entire day, but we had small time windows for phone or chat communication; if the windows were not used effectively, delivery was often delayed.

The development had several aspects including the creation of the backend, which I completed. They initially designed the UI, but we got negative feedback on the functionality. We then started in parallel to create a new design, then Loginworks began developing the apps.

    They’re also doing the frontend work for our web application, which we recently upgraded to the current version of AngularJS.

    What is the team composition?

    We work with a product manager and a small dedicated team of developers.

    How did you come to work with Loginworks Softwares?

    I looked through buyer/seller websites and found that Loginworks had the best ratings for AngularJS. I made the initial contact with them and two other companies. I was impressed with the way Loginworks presented themselves.

    We’ve invested $6,000–$8,000.

    What is the status of this engagement?

    We’ve been working with them for almost a year, and the partnership is ongoing.

    What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

    Regarding functionality, we’ve shown the app to several people and gotten their feedback.

    I have a highly technical background, so I’ve been able to review the code and give input on not only the functionalities but the code and its security. We initially didn’t do well, but we are now.

    How did Loginworks Softwares perform from a project management standpoint?

    We had a few methods for managing the work. Their team used Ionic for the mobile application, which I’m not familiar with. I was impressed with our product manager. He’s really nice, and I enjoy working with him.

    Their team is good in terms of clarity and transparency. They answer at any hour, no matter the time. I usually get a straightforward response a few minutes after contacting them. When the project started, I always received detailed estimations of the tasks. If any were unclear, they usually reviewed them for me.

    Their estimations process is fair, and I feel I’ve gotten value for what I paid, and that they worked for it.

    A few parts of the project got stuck, and I didn’t understand why, but I saw an effort on their part to fix the problems. Their team did a great job with communicating any issues with our team.

    It’s been a long project, but we’ve enjoyed the experience with Loginworks, and we’re quite happy.

    What did you find most impressive about them?

    The team at Loginworks Softwares is honest and transparent about everything. They always keep our team in the loop. Their technical abilities were also notable. They didn’t charge us for the development hours spent initially, without any results, and we were only charged for the initial estimation, plus a bit more. Loginworks knew they weren’t doing something well and took responsibility.

    Are there any areas they could improve?

    There were times when I needed more transparency and felt the speed of development slowing down, but this is understandable since they are a company with multiple projects.

    Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

    It’s important to spend time before the project starts, planning timelines and milestones. After we put a plan in place, the development happened faster, and we were able to track any deviations from the plan.
