NOT ALL LAW FIRMS ARE CREATED EQUAL
.LawyersInHouse.com is a virtual law firm comprised of former in-house counsel. We are committed to increasing diversity and inclusion within the legal industry. Over 90% of our lawyers are women and over 25% of our people are BIPOC. We are WBE Canada certified and as such qualify as a diverse supplier. We also have a strategic partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind where we support visually impaired entrepreneurs and business owners as well as employ visually impaired lawyers and paralegals. By creating a flexible, collaborative "anti-firm", we believe we are creating a space for lawyers who feel they do not fit or do not feel they can thrive within the legal industry as it is currently structured. We believe it is through the inclusion of diverse perspectives and backgrounds that the legal industry can best serve businesses and communities.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO and co-founder of XpertVR. We’ve been running this business for less than five years. What we do is create VR simulations for research and training. It’s mostly used in the academic space by researchers or professors who can’t research something in the real world, and they hire us to create a virtual environment for them.
Sometimes, our clients also use it to teach their students hands-on skills that they don’t have time to do in a lab. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, our clients also use VR simulations since they can’t bring their students into class.
What challenge were you trying to address with LawyersInHouse.com?
We had a lawyer before that we were working with, and that person helped us with legal documents, contracts, and similar services. However, we had a lot of issues getting an estimate for the project cost. When the project ended, the estimate ended up being 2–3 times bigger than we originally anticipated. We also had other issues with that lawyer, and that’s the reason why we ended up working with LawyersInHouse.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The team created our privacy policy and terms of use document since we recently developed our first product. The solution we created enables researchers to run their research remotely. We still need a community of over 1,000 people to go to our website and participate in research studies, so we needed to have pretty robust terms of use and privacy policy for all stakeholders. Currently, they’ve been helping us rework some of our employee contracts.
What is the team composition?
We mainly work with two people, but we’ve also met Christine (CEO & Founder). They told us they have lawyers for every kind of specialty and as we bring on more projects, I’m assuming that we’ll be working with more staff from LawyersInHouse.
How did you come to work with LawyersInHouse.com?
We didn’t really shop around too much, and when we reached out to a couple of advisers that we have, they suggested LawyersInHouse. After that, we had a meeting with their team and it went well. As a result, we started working with them right away.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent $4,000–$5,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our collaboration started in January 2021, and we continue to work together.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
On the quality side, everything has been amazing and easy to understand, specifically the contracts and different documents they’re doing for us.
They have a very diverse team and many lawyers from LawyersInHouse have worked for Fortune 500 companies and in larger businesses. Since they have a wide range of talents, they can pick from that depending on what projects we have. Other vendors that we've worked with only specialize in certain areas and most of them didn't have business knowledge in the startup space we’re in.
Overall, LawyersInHouse has a huge positive impact on our organization, and with their help, we don’t have to worry about the legal side of our business. We’re not experts or specialists when it comes to legal things, but having a partner that can handle any legal questions or things that come up — takes off a big weight from us.
How did LawyersInHouse.com perform from a project management standpoint?
The team sits down with us, gives us an estimate, and makes sure that they update us if they’re going to be over that estimate. In that sense, they’re better than our previous lawyer. I don’t think that we have specific tools that we use, but they have one project manager that we’ve been working with.
That person listens to our problems and then finds a lawyer from their company who is going to be best to work with. The full introduction typically happens through emails and video calls. Overall, it’s been great to have one project manager who we can go to with our concerns and someone that is good at directing us to the right people.
What did you find most impressive about them?
LawyersInHouse’s turnaround time has been amazing. For the privacy policy project, they finished the rough draft in a week. Then, within two weeks everything was finalized. We’ve had some contracts that took 1–2 months to finish, so their speed has been impressive.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t really think of anything that they can improve. Everything has been seamless for us, and their pricing has been around where we expect it to be.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be completely upfront and honest with LawyersInHouse, and let them know your level of understanding of contracts and other legal things. Furthermore, share all the documents that you already have with them. From what we’ve seen, the more you can share, the better the relationship is going to be and you’re also going to help them get their work done quickly.
LawyersInHouse.com is responsive and delivers high-quality deliverables. The client appreciates that they have wealth of talents that can help them in various types of projects. They also have a seamless process, fast turnaround time, and exceptional transparency, leading to an ongoing engagement.
