I'm the VP of Product Development at Diagnostic Biochips Inc. Our company develops state-of-art brain computer interface technology to study brain functions at the cellular level. We have a portfolio of implantable neural probes for the electrophysiology research market.

Our company's core technology is on the hardware side, which collects enormous amount of complex neural data. We reached out to Lasting Dynamics to help solve the data processing / storage problem.

We found Lasting Dynamics by reading some reviews online that rated their contracted projects. The reviews were good, but honestly we weren't sure at the time. We all agree now that we had been lucky to hit a gold mine.

We build a complete data storage and processing pipeline on the cloud. This eliminates significant local infrastructures that our hardware customers must set up now to store and process data. Our cloud pipeline also makes a series of complex neuroscience computation pipeline (normally requires months to years of training in programming and neuroscience to set up and run) very intuitive by clicking a few buttons from a browser. We use React on the frontend and Python / Matlab on the backend.

About 8 people. Backend, frontend, UIUX developers, as well as project manager, QA/QC.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We can now successfully handle huge dataset management on cloud. We've also built and tested a series of processing modules that are important for neuroscience research. We are now in the process of beta testing through a few potential customers.

Very clear communication. We use mostly Slack and sometimes email. I have a single point of contact for general questions and feedbacks, but I also have direct access to developers for specific inquiry. They ALWAYS respond as soon as possible, even during off business hours when urgent matters arise.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive thing is that even though this is a contracted project, they treat it as if it was their own. And because of such dedication and enthusiasm, they were able to very quickly apply their programming skills to a very unique application that requires a significant amount of outside knowledge (neuroscience) build up.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I cannot think of any.

I’m a product owner at Numbers Group, a telecommunications company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lasting Dynamics SRL?

We needed a company that would create new software for us to improve our workflow. We primarily sell services for third parties and we need to integrate the data from a sale to our partners — we have software already but it is old and needs an upgrade.

Lasting Dynamics SRL is building a custom website where we can upload information necessary for our subscription services. This product will allow all people who are a part of the company to update their data. They’re doing back- and frontend development for the website and we’re hoping to expand the scope to include mobile app development.

We started working together in April 2021 and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Lasting Dynamics SRL is still developing the software, and there aren’t any success metrics yet. However, we do know how the project will work when it is completed. For example, if I want to know how much I make in my job, there will be a verification model that I can access that allows me to see where I stand in pay and performance ratings across my field. 

How did Lasting Dynamics SRL perform from a project management standpoint?

Lasting Dynamics SRL's project management is very good. We have a weekly meeting where we talk about the project’s progress and go over the next milestones. Every two weeks, they give me a detailed report of what they have accomplished so far, often using Google Sheets. They’re very honest and will tell me if there’s a problem with hitting a milestone — there has only been one week where we were delayed. I also track requests via software they shared with me, where I can see which parts of the project are ongoing, in testing, and in review. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Previous companies I have worked with have had many issues meeting deadlines, but this was not the case with Lasting Dynamics SRL. They always try to find the best solutions for my needs and it is a pleasure working with them.

Future customers should have open communication with them — they’re a great team and are very precise with their work. 

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of product development at a company that develops novel hardware for neuroscientists to do research. It's a sensor that's put into the animal brain that extracts a very complicated and large amount of data.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lasting Dynamics SRL?

For 5–6 years, we had only been working on the hardware side, and we were unable to help the customers in terms of how to organize and analyze the data. That became a challenge frequently, especially when the users weren’t familiar with the hardware and the type of data that was coming out of our technology. 

Recently, we started an initiative to build software support to look at the data side, which is very difficult for a small company because we have very few people and none of us are experienced in software. 

We had to either hire full-time or look for freelancers. After a lot of initial activity and proof of concepts (POC), we ended up deciding to make a sizable investment into hiring a freelancer to work on some prototypes. 

Currently, the majority of the neuroscience community relies on poorly maintained open-source software that they can just freely download from the Internet. The UI is usually not very user-friendly, and it’s difficult to use and install. 

Our main challenge is to build a user-friendly interface for users to use our software. This challenge is actually very difficult to communicate to a software support team because they don't deal with customers that we face daily.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lasting Dynamics SRL created a user-friendly interface and a web browser-based application. Their specific goal was to create a dashboard that could visualize our data in a very user-friendly and appealing way.

We worked with 4–5 teammates, and each of them had partial involvement commitments to the project. There was also a team leader.

How did you come to work with Lasting Dynamics SRL?

At first, we looked at Freelancer.com because a colleague recommended it. We posted a job description on there and got more than 30 responses very quickly, and all of them seemed qualified.

We went with Lasting Dynamics SRL because their reviews were pretty good, and one of the Freelancer.com agents referred me to them directly.

We spent roughly $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The initial part only lasted three months, from August–November 2020. We plan to launch an MVP in Q1 2021. We’re working on a different part of the application, which is why we’ve paused our collaboration with Lasting Dynamics SRL.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We had very specific milestones defined in the beginning. There were broader milestones for every month, and on a weekly basis, we had a dashboard to track the progress on very specific action items. Lasting Dynamics SRL delivered all of those on time. 

In many cases, they went beyond our expectations. Some problems came up that we didn't expect, and the team was always able and willing to solve these new issues, even though we didn't talk about them at the beginning of the contract. 

Even though we didn’t get the software in the hands of our end-users, we have 3–4 developer groups that are working on this project, and they’ve all given very positive feedback on the part that Lasting Dynamics SRL worked on.

How did Lasting Dynamics SRL perform from a project management standpoint?

Lasting Dynamics SRL’s communication was exceptional. The project was very difficult to communicate in terms of user requirements because it’s a very niche application. We used Slack and another communication tool. 

The communication was smooth, and I was able to convey an abstract idea and the team would turn around with a mockup that fit my expectations closely. 

I was actually surprised by how close they were able to get with the limited information I provided. We were inexperienced in the software development system, and they recommended a bunch of utilities to track progress and to have meetings.

Everything was extremely well-organized, and I knew exactly where to find each developer. I was able to look at not only the application where I could actually test, but also look into the source code. Even though the tools were all new to me, I felt like they were very easy and I could learn them in no time. 

The team leader committed about 2–3 hours per day, and then the rest of the team worked the remaining 5–6 hours. They were very fluid and adjusted those human resources according to the progress of the project and our requests. 

At all times, I felt like I had access to the entire team of 5–6 people, even though the contract stated that they were only partially involved at a given time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The fact that they understood the challenge and thought about it very hard before we started the project was impressive. They made the team composition exactly where we needed to be, and it was very fluid. 

Other potential contractors we talked to seemed to oversimplify their expectations of the project. They assumed how our project would be based on their previous experience with other projects. But Lasting Dynamics SRL’s team understood our uniqueness. 

They were able to build a team accordingly. That actually gave us the confidence to go work with them instead of others. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Because we were working with many of their members at the same time, the conference calls were a little challenging. It was hard to hear each individual talk, so maybe they could give each team member a microphone instead of having everyone use one laptop. That’s just a minor thing.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Talk to them, and make sure the team lead understands the project requirements before you start so that they can build the right team composition. Lasting Dynamics SRL has the patience to do that, which other companies don’t, so take advantage of that.

I am the CTO of a tech startup that develops solutions for fitness and nutrition. We are currently developing our first MVP and planning to launch it in the next couple of months.

Two developers have been assigned to the project part-time, for a total of 20 hours / week. Besides them, the project has been supported by a project manager that also coordinated the communication with us.

After the first 3 weeks, many of the missing features we requested were integrated in the app. Then, together with the team, we agreed to switch from Ionic to React Native for the larger support of external tools and to reach a better final UX. Lasting Dynamics is now taking care of this porting, progressing much faster than we could do internally.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was easy to communicate with, professional and knowledgeable. He has been the contact point between the developers and us and he was always very responsive. He provided us with estimates in time for the tasks we requested but also gave us proactive feedback on our technological stack and possible improvements.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The ease and responsiveness of communication with the company were very valuable and appreciated.

So far we have been very satisfied with the work of Lasting Dynamics.

Lasting Dynamics is really good. Their founder is extremely bright and very proactive, always coming up with new and better suggestions. I find the entire team to be very efficient and they carry out a highly transparent process.

We have weekly deadlines that they meet, and if they don’t meet them, there’s always a reasonable explanation. I’m tremendously pleased with how they work. Lasting Dynamics is based in Italy and I’m in Copenhagen, so we primarily work through Skype and Slack.

Lasting Dynamics’ CEO is outstanding. He always makes sure that our agreement is lined up.

No, I don’t think there is a lot that could be done differently.

Be well prepared, and that goes for all IT development. Clients have to know exactly what they want or else they will get something unexpected. Products must be described down to the smallest detail.

I represent a premium Merino wool technical-sportswear and urban outdoor clothing brand.

We sell our products worldwide through our e-commerce and with a small retail network in Europe. Our brand is part of a big group that is a world leader in producing and selling merino wool fabric to major brands such as Zegna, Hugo Boss etc.

I'm the Digital Marketing Manager so I'm responsible of all digital activities for the e-commerce in order to bring valuable lead and transactions. I report directly to the CEO.

Our e-commerce was too slow, especially from mobile. We asked for advice from Lasting Dynamics to improve the performances of our web site and resolve the various bugs found during navigation.

Reducing loading time of each page of our website in order to make the customer journey a great experience. Moreover we wanted someone who tell us the potential of our CMS and what we can do from now to the next five years so we can decide if migrate to a new platform or ask for building one.

We asked for different quotes and had a call with several agencies. What we have found in Lasting Dynamics was exactly what we were looking for: not a big agency where your need are not their but a boutique, a young company that gives importance to every single request.

They took access to our server and domain so they had the possibility to make an audit in the first week. After that they made a list of all the to does and put them in a gantt of one month duration.

It was extremely accurate, with all changes needed both in the back-end and front-end in order to make the website faster. We had access to their agile platform so we could follow all the daily work and it was amazing how they have finished the project in time.

After that we asked to refresh and restyle an old internal app that we use with our retailers. They have build a solid crm and a sort of e-commerce for retailers where they can add products in the cart simply by shooting the QR code shown on each product in the catalogue. This makes easier the entire management of the order BtoB.

What was the team composition?

The team was composed by 3 developers and 1 quality assurant but on each work there was always the supervision of the CEO Michele Cimmino. With him we had several calls for different questions.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our website is now faster than ever and every bug have been solved. The project gantt has been followed as scheduled and the job has been done in time.

Reducing loading time from mobile has reduced our bounce rate from 70% to 45%/50% and this means that we are intercepting a lot of valuable visit that we were missing before.

As already told before, after an audit they sent us a gantt with all details and the job has been done as scheduled. I even had access to their agile platform so I was always up to date.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The work was done perfectly and on schedule even though there have been many other requests during the development phase.

Lasting Dynamics has proved to be only up to the job but capable of going much further, translating every request into a business opportunity. They are serious, dynamic, and full of ideas. They have the desire to do things right.

We use Jira for task management, Confluence for documentation, and Slack for communication.

Lasting Dynamics SRL’s passion is the main thing. When I gave our dev team a new mandate to focus on bugs for the next weeks without Michele’s input, he later asked me why I didn’t tell him about it because he had lots of ideas about how to get it done. Despite the young age of the company, I found a serious team, able to commit to deadlines and in providing deliverables. Their methodology in design and delivery is able to adapt to different team environments. Their point of strength is their ability to innovate by exploring new solutions and cutting-edge technologies. Often, it is the perfect complement in traditional system integrators expert teams.

There are always rooms for improvements in such responses with low budget and short time, but about Lasting Dynamics, the services required were delivered on time and on budget. The communication and team spirt has been very good.
