Business Transformation
We worked with this client on the 2020 business transformation strategy that involved a new brand identity and positioning based on a cultural truth. The famous calle ocho street is no longer a Cuban culture only icon.
We created a new concept called 'Working Juntos', to stop being perceived just as a Cuban-American publication, and reaching out to the entire US Hispanic community in Miami Dade County. We redesigned their website, created new content categories, created a new media kit, and a newsletters content strategy. To communicate this new positioning, we launched a branding campaign with a front cover print and social media content.
Now we are developing a new business model, and planning new brand touchpoints such as a podcast channel and virtual community events.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am a co-founder and COO at a software development agency.
What challenges were you trying to address with La Palapa?
They helped us out with gamification development for one of our clients. The development was aimed to create a gamification experience inside an e-commerce platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They were directly involved in the creative part of the project in addition to the gamification development. They worked with Woocommerce and WordPress since that’s what the e-commerce platform was built with.
What is the team composition?
I worked with three people, including a creative director, an innovation manager, and a UX designer.
How did you come to work with La Palapa?
We had collaborated with them before. Originally, they actually contacted us to work on one of their projects, and this year we decided that we wanted to invite them to work on one of our projects.
How much have you invested in them?
So far we have invested $25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started this project at the beginning of April 2020, and the project is still in process.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve achieved a 35% increase in user retention on the website, sales also increased by 15%. The results were pretty immediate and the client is very happy with that.
How did La Palapa perform from a project management standpoint?
We had a very short amount of time to organize the teams and start with the project so it was complicated, but we managed to achieve a very good collaboration, using agile methodologies. Their team adapted to our daily workflow, and they were a very good partner.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The ability to combine technical skills and creativity is one of their greatest virtues.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The only setback we had was having to organize the teams on such short notice, but that wasn’t an issue that depended solely on them.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
The name of our business is Press Net Corp, and we are a publishing company. We’ve been printing a newspaper twice a month for almost 20 years, and we also have a digital platform.
What challenge were you trying to address with La Palapa?
Leo (Owner) has helped us with all of the branding on our digital presence that we have developed over the last six months.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We talked to them about our specific goals for the brand, and then they developed all of the graphics and brand collateral that we needed to have a fully built-out presence online. From there, he took the initiative of giving us guidance and direction on how to run advertising campaigns, which we had never done before.
What was the team composition?
Our main point of contact was Leo, and he was the only person we had any significant amount of interactions with about the work.
How did you come to work with La Palapa?
Leo found us and offered to deliver his services because of an article that we published about the community.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started around May 2019 and is still ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our work with them has increased the value that we are able to bring to potential clients. It has broadened our focus and created a more cohesive image that we are then able to project out into the community. We are totally satisfied with the work that they have provided.
How did La Palapa perform from a project management standpoint?
Communication was excellent, and he was always very responsive to any requests or questions that I had. He totally surpassed my expectations in terms of our budget and deadlines for the project.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The branding campaigns that they helped us develop really killed two birds with one stone because they allowed us to significantly rebrand our agency while also gaining a lot of exposure in our target markets.
Are there any areas they could improve?
He helped us improve in our company, so I can’t think of any way I could ask him to improve instead.
