    We were migrating to a responsive site on the Magento platform from an in-house version.


    What was the scope of their involvement?

    Krish helped us migrate to a Magento platform which interfaced with our multichannel backend management software. They initially ported our existing website and its data, and have helped us move to a mobile-responsive site in the past year. They helped us think through the decision of building a responsive site, and have helped us with day-to-day maintenance, patch installations, search and UI improvements, as well as some marketing endeavors.


    We are a bit different in that we offer both educational books and software. One of the unique features Krish had to implement was a way of showing all product types in search results when looking for a particular title. When looking at a vendor’s book users will also see icons for the accompanying iOS and Android apps, the e-book version, and the Windows or Mac download versions. It was a complex and different approach to most of our competition, but it improved our customer experience. It was our idea, but Krish brought it to fruition with very few complaints.


    They didn’t really engage in a lot of content development for us, but they did help with some SEO challenges, porting information from our existing site to the new version. We handle most of the content in-house. They did undertake our marketing-related landing page development, and could probably work more on content, but we haven’t asked it of the team.


    What is the team composition?

    They’ve assigned developers, designers and project managers to our work. We’ve consistently worked with two people who have been with us from the beginning. For the responsive redesign, we were given a separate design team to make sure the UI was in place. Several components of the company were involved, depending on what project we were working on. They have a head programmer and a head project manager who see projects to fruition.


    How did you come to work with Krish Technolabs?

    We made a fairly extensive search for Silver Magento partners or higher, small-to-medium-sized firms which were growing, but weren’t too large. They needed to be small enough to give us the attention we wanted, given that we’d worked with some larger companies in the past, and got lost in the shuffle. Newer companies like Krish can provide the right level of attention, and we could grow together, building a great partnership. Out of 50 companies, we narrowed the list down to around 14, focusing on India because of cost. We got into the small details with the final three companies, and Krish was comprehensive in terms of response and what they planned to provide for us. We liked their level of detail and overall plan.

    The total cost has been well over $100,000.


    What is the status of this engagement?

    We started working with Krish Technolabs in June 2013, and have an ongoing relationship.


    What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

    Our website e-commerce conversion rate has gone up by almost 1%.


    How did Krish Technolabs perform from a project management standpoint?

    The work was delivered on time, and they’ve become an extension of our team and business. They’re proactive in answering questions on what the best approach might be. A few projects have been a little behind schedule, but that was mainly our fault, due to changing requirements. Krish has been responsive and quick in implementing changes.


    We used email initially and moved to a project management tool created by Krish for managing tasks, which they use for all their clients. It’s been helpful, and we’ve actually moved to a new version in 2017.


    Their English skills are incredible—accurate and proper.


    The one downfall for Krish and any company in India is that most of the communication is done through a time zone difference. I and other members of my team stay up late chatting on Skype, while issues in the project management system are addressed by them.


    What did you find most impressive about them?

    Their detailed responses to our requirements and any questions we ask is the most comforting aspect of Krish. We’ve worked with hundreds of development companies, but the level of detail in Krish’s questions, after we give them requirements, gives me assurance that they are looking to do a quality job, and aren’t just looking to put something together quickly, not thinking of all the challenges. Those questions are logical, and provide ideas relating to long-term functionality issues or possible problems. They’re critical thinkers, and these are the kind of people we want to work with.


    Are there any areas they could improve?

    The timezone difference is a negative aspect. They do provide a U.S. contact in case of emergencies, whom we’ve had to use twice. By “emergency”, I don’t mean anything critical of the website going down; just functionality changes we want to make immediately.


    We’ve had a malware attack recently, which was resolved within less than a day. Krish works quite fast.


    Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

    Use a project management system, and be as detailed as possible in requirements. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, if you’re not sure which way to go.
