Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority, Jamesville Bennetto Early Learning & Childcare Centre, BRIGHT Run, Neighbour to Neighbour, Fish Lake Road, Château des Charmes, Hamilton Wentworth Catholic Child Care Centre
Neighbour to Neighbour (N2N) is a Hamilton-based organization with a mission to tackle the tough issue of food insecurity in our community. With a wide spectrum of services, and many stakeholder groups, N2N often felt like their brand was diluted and their integral message was unclear.
Together, Kitestring and N2N engaged members from all relevant stakeholder groups and worked with N2N on a considered rebrand. New brand architecture, logo identity, and concise brand positioning provided N2N with the tools needed to clarify and amplify its messaging. As a result, N2N was able to reaffirm its position as a leader in the fight against poverty, drawing awareness and simultaneously facilitating engagement with service users and the community.
Kitestring is proud to continue our collaboration with N2N as we strengthen our trusted marketing partnership through developing annual reports, collateral pieces, and website design and development based on a comprehensive analytics assessment. As our partnership continues to evolve, Kitestring is committed to highlighting the unique and important impact of Neighbour to Neighbour on the Hamilton community.
Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic Child Care Centres (HWCCCC) is a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and setting up families for long-term success. With forty childcare centres (and counting!), a thoughtful rebrand was needed to facilitate dynamic expansion, emphasizing both the development of children and families and the trajectory of the organization itself.
Kitestring completed directed and exhaustive research which formed the basis of a considered and appropriate brand strategy. An employee survey, two site visits, and a review of other childcare centres in the area allowed us to position the brand as a multi-layered solution to a wide-reaching audience. The new brand was tasked with appealing to families, educators, and the community in a way that was inclusive and welcoming.
Kitestring balanced a variety of factors, creating symbols inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach: bringing the natural world into every one of HWCCCC’s childcare centres. Rather than relying on traditional Catholic imagery, the rebrand emphasized experiential learning and the tenets of respect, responsibility, and discovery. Our tagline, “Where play is wondrous work,” is a subtle nod to Catholicism without alienating service users of other faiths.
In an inspired collaboration, Kitestring and HWCCCC were able to develop a new brand that graciously balanced the brand’s beginnings, while expertly positioning the organization as an inclusive choice for all childhood educators and families in need of quality childcare.
Jamesville Bennetto works with and supports the diverse families of our community by providing professional child care in an environment that promotes respect, inclusiveness, and individuality. They needed a brand to reflect the friendly, high-quality child care their centre offers.
Starting with research, Kitestring conducted a survey of parents, staff, and the Jamesville Bennetto board of directors to truly understand the values and current perception of the organization. From there, we were equipped to position the organization as a true community-driven establishment in the heart of downtown.
Focusing on Jamesville Bennetto as a pivotal part of each child’s growth, we designed an acorn to tell the story of planting the seeds for the future. With bright colours and fun shapes that stayed away from primary colours, we captured the approachable, inclusive nature of the child care centre itself.
With a new identity and comprehensive brand toolkit, Jamesville Bennetto has transformed their centre through updates to signage, print materials, apparel, and more. Now, the centre stands tall and is easily recognizable to families, friends, and community members alike. It truly is “where community grows.”
As a growing integrated port network, the Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) offers innovative ports and marine assets on the Great Lakes. In the wake of the recent Hamilton-Oshawa amalgamation, HOPA Ports looked to Kitestring to efficiently transform their brand to embody the future of their port system.
Our relationship with HOPA Ports has grown into a powerful partnership; a buildup of trust beginning with an infographic assignment quickly evolved into confidently developing an extensive website, and eventually executing a full rebrand from the Hamilton Port Authority to HOPA Ports. A decisive rebrand connected enduring history with an innovative forward vision, linking clients throughout Southern Ontario, and positioning the organization in a quickly evolving global market.
With deep roots in the Hamilton community, the HOPA Ports brand brings a sense of collaboration, certitude, and professionalism to the ever-evolving marine transportation industry. The brand leverages its enduring reputation, seamlessly integrates the Port of Oshawa, and positions HOPA Ports as visionary leaders in developing multi-modal spaces to support industry and trade.
Looking to expand the potential of their Yukon-based sustainable fish company, Icy Waters needed a creative and eye-catching way to brand and package a line of all-natural dog treats. A multi-level ask, the organization was looking to communicate the value of the product, but articulate the unique narrative of the Yukon and Arctic Charr as a sustainable seafood choice.
After in-depth research, it was clear that the brand needed a considerable forward-thinking strategy. Brainstorming about their story and main ingredient, we settled on a name that captured both: the address of the main production facility in Whitehorse, YT. Inspired by the Yukon landscape and textures of the North, package design utilized bold typography and strong colours, effortlessly creating a visually distinct product that draws pet owner attention. The compelling story is further shared on the package, bringing Fish Lake Road, Arctic Charr, and the unique qualities of these treats to the top of the customer’s mind.
As the Fish Lake Road team begins building relationships at trade shows and boutique pet stores, the brand has evolved to a range of collateral including pop-up banners, postcards, a trade show display, and even new flavours! Kitestring created an overarching brand architecture that gave the company the ability to scaffold and grow as their product line and reach expanded, bringing Fish Lake Road from the Yukon into homes across Ontario.
After 12 years of running a powerfully effective annual 5K run/walk raising funds in support of breast cancer research, BRIGHT Run connected with Kitestring when faced with the unknown— running a virtual event.
Through a comprehensive discovery session, we listened and learned exactly how BRIGHT Run raised money so effectively at their in-person event, and started planning how to best translate their success to an online format. Through the development of a marketing plan and updates to various collateral items, Kitestring was able to support and empower BRIGHT Run to confidently execute a 2020 event that was unlike anything their donors had ever seen. After surpassing their fundraising goal of $300,000, BRIGHT Run and Kitestring formed an enduring bond: the 2021 virtual event is already in the works as a joyful collaboration.
Through understanding and respect of what the organization already did well, Kitestring was able to evolve the event in a changing landscape, providing BRIGHT Run with resiliency and confidence. With a willingness to jump into the unknown and come together to find strength in collaboration, BRIGHT Run 2021 is destined to be the best year yet, regardless of circumstance.
