In 2019 we had a request from a global R&D company developing a revolutionary equipment and perception software for computer vision of autonomous vehicles and other domains. They wanted is to to form an automation team in Minsk from scratch, then they opened new engineering and administrative positions as well.

One recruiter was assigned for the project as the Single Point of Contact. We also

consulted on the compensation and benefits package on IT market in Belarus, provided labor law insights and assisted in finding the best option for an office.The client’s demand was to identify and hire top talent for the new R&D center in Minsk. The requirements included: 
  • Engineering Degree;
  • 6+ overall testing experience, 3+ years automation testing experience;
  • Proficiency in Python 3x;
  • English speaking level - B2+.

Another request for Mechanical Engineer with data gathering skills, knowledge in electronics, driving license and reasonable English. Сompany is planning to test autonomous driving system on usual vehicles collect data in different weather, road, landscape, etc. conditions.

And most recently we were asked to find a Senior Office Manager (5+ years of experience) with Bachelor’s Degree, proficient with local human resources documents policies, accountancy and purchasing, speaking English fluently, and with own car as administrative, office of the company is  40 km from the city border.

In 2018 we were contacted by the company providing customer service to the users of Western Union’s payment system. This department is located in Riga, Latvia and the request was for 30 new employees, Nordic speakers.

Due to the lack of specialists with good knowledge of Nordic languages in Latvia and unwillingness to relocate among most Nordic citizens, we’ve been contacted by the company. The request was to relocate

specialists with higher education and speaking Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish or Danish and English at a B2+ level from CIS countries to Riga.

We were approached by HRD of the company PROFILE VOX, Emanuel Reśliński, with a request for recruitment. Our company had been recommended by the regional office of GI Group, as their reliable partner in Belarus since 2014, and that imposed additional responsibility on us. So this project was in of primal importance to us.

The specifics of the project was that all vacancies were based in Brest, at the local production

site and required good knowledge of English. While there are not that many opportunities to use this language professionally in this region. So some of the candidates that matched were to relocate from Minsk. 

To fulfill the client hiring needs, we deeply analyzed the production of plastic products technical details, examined the market thoroughly. Headhunting was actively used by us to build a solid talent pipeline and attract the best candidates.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re a Swiss construction chemicals company. We have two factories and 150 employees in Belarus, where I’m based.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with KIAT?

We hired them for recruiting and staff augmentation services. We started in Belarus, in 2013, and they helped us find key people. We later started recruiting by ourselves, but we’re still using KIAT’s help.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I give them profiles of the positions we’re looking for, we go through a preselection, and they send candidates to us. We’re not a very large company, and the only permanent full-time position is the general manager.

KIAT has recruited sales managers, accountants, market field managers, and other employees. We’ve recruited around 20 people through them.

What is the team composition?

Igor (Owner and CEO) is my main point of contact. 

How did you come to work with KIAT?

We had a partner in Belarus who helped us set up the company, and we asked them for a recommendation.

How much have you invested with them?

Their fee is a bit more than one month’s salary of the hired employee. I can’t provide a total amount.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with KIAT in August or September 2013, and the relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It varies depending on the market situation and the person I’m working with. Sometimes it was good, and sometimes it wasn’t so easy. 

I think overall they’ve been good. I know that they’re focusing on outsourcing and temporary staffing now. They’ve been flexible, and they’ve understood the needs of our company over the years.

How did KIAT perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re both Russian speakers, so communication is easy for us. We’ve never been involved in the international communication process. We were looking for an HR manager recently, and KIAT organized interviews over Skype, which went okay.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve worked with other recruitment agencies, including international ones. The good thing about KIAT is that they’re really responsive and flexible. If we have a specific demand or need someone urgently, the bigger agencies won’t be very flexible. This is why I prefer working with KIAT.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Over the past 6–7 years, I’ve worked with 3–4 different managers from KIAT, who searched for candidates. Not all of them were of the same quality. Some managers would send me the right people. With others, it was really difficult to explain what kinds of people we were looking for. 

For example, we were looking for a sales manager for the construction chemicals sector, and one of the managers kept sending us candidates whose sales experience was in selling cookies. It’s workable, but it just takes more time and effort. We may have to go through more interviews, but they listen, they give feedback, and they’re trying to improve.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of HR for an Israeli startup company. Our product is a lidar sensor for autonomous vehicles. We were founded four and a half years ago, and we already have 260 employees, including our site in Minsk, Belarus.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with KIAT?

We’d just started the Belarusian site, and I had no idea how to recruit engineers in that region.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They really understood the profiles, they asked the right questions, and they researched candidates to match our job descriptions. It worked really nicely. We recruited across a couple of phases, starting with two engineers, adding another two, then adding a technician and someone to deal with the administration.

All the interviews were for fulltime roles. KIAT screened all candidates before sending them to us. We got candidate résumés, ran phone interviews, and then traveled to Minsk. We quickly found the first people we wanted to hire.

What is the team composition?

We had one representative who worked directly with me on everything. When he had professional questions that needed more technical answers, we involved the relevant people from our company. The communication went very well. I had a single point of contact for the whole process, from beginning to end.

How did you come to work with KIAT?

I was looking online for agencies to support this, specifically ones that could work with us in English. Many of the recruitment agencies in Belarus are not English-speaking, which was a big problem. KIAT was the first company that got back to my email, and I found that they could really support us. I realized that I could work with them from the very first conversation. We agreed on working terms, and it worked really quickly from that moment.

How much have you invested with them?

We pay them a fee for each hire, and we don’t have a retainer. I can’t provide an exact figure.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with KIAT around February 2019. The first engineers they hired started in July of that year. We don’t have any openings in Belarus at the moment, but I’m in touch with KIAT, and I’ll definitely contact them again when we have a position.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Meeting candidates was never a waste of time. The ones we decided to reject were still definitely relevant, meeting the basic demands.

Everyone here has been very happy, both with the process and the end results. If we didn’t have this connection with KIAT, I don’t think we’d have managed to start the Belarus site on time. They’re really helpful, and everybody here appreciates that. So far, we’re really happy with the team we’ve hired.

How did KIAT perform from a project management standpoint?

We travelled to Belarus for interviews a couple of times, and everything was well-organized by the KIAT representative. I was really happy with their service, compared to recruitment agencies I’ve worked with in other places, especially in Israel. They provide a totally different level of service, understanding of our needs, and the very prompt manner of work. It was really a pleasure working with them.

We communicate via email, WhatsApp messages, and phone calls. Everything’s worked well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I think I’ve said it all. It’s been a really positive experience, really.

There’s nothing I can think of.

There are no risks here. KIAT is very professional, and it was a pleasure for me to work with them.
