Medical software development
The company
Haemonetics is a global healthcare company dedicated to providing a suit of innovative hematology products and solutions to help customers improve patient care and reduce the cost of healthcare. Their technology addresses important medical markets: blood and plasma component collection, the surgical suite and hospital transfusion service.
The project
Haemonetics is both a strategic partner and our largest client. They are a dominant international player in the blood and plasma industry. Our collaboration began with an affiliate in 2005 and we have since collaborated on numerous projects. During our tenure together, we have augmented their team and resources and have represented the entire development lifecycle. We are very proud of the role we have played in supporting Haemonetics in their industry.
The project involves the ongoing development and testing of a solution for Blood Management and Bedside Transfusion for U.S., European and Asian markets.
The system combines software with hardware components as an extension to a blood bank information system. The IronRooster team is responsible for developing and testing the software solution on multiple platforms (including Android, iOS and Windows mobile) and ensuring compatibility with different hardware devices (refrigerators, kiosks) supporting healthcare processes.
The client relies on IronRooster’s experts to react to the unique requirements of various users for new functionality. The team is tasked with defining work associated with new releases in consideration of regulatory requirements specified by regulatory authorities. Over the course of multiple releases, the team’s responsibilities have grown to cover the entire software development lifecycle from planning to development and testing of the final versions. As the medical device is available for multiple markets, the team must ensure the software supports several languages.

Healthcare Solution Refactor
The company
GPI is the preferred partner in Italy for technology and services dedicated to Health and Social Care and the Public Administartion. Founded 30 years ago in Trento, over time, GPI has constantly grown in both size and expertise. It operates with several brances throughout Italy and abroad as Hemasoft America Corp.
The project
The project involved a complete rewrite of an existing fat client healthcare solution to migrate it to a state-of-the-art web-based architecture.
The main goal was to recreate the functionalities of its successful predecessor using cutting-edge web technologies. Working with the Client and their customers, we reviewed all the functionalities of the old version of the solution and identified those that were still valuable and useful for users. We discarded unused functionalities while adding new ones and finetuning existing ones based on changing work practices in the healthcare industry.
We helped the Client break-up the scope of the re-work into several projects/releases in order to maximize the speed to the market and minimize efforts required to secure regulatory approval. During these releases we were involved in planning project scope and managing the full lifecycle of these projects. We designed its architecture using the latest technologies taking into consideration user needs and performance requirements. We implemented and tested all functionalities; created all required project and product documentation. We also analyzed hazards associated with its use and designed functionalities to mitigate those hazards.
At the end of the development, we also took part and assisted in executing the beta testing at the customer site and prepared all the documentation required for regulatory approval. We are proud that, despite the size of the solution, we secured regulatory clearance less than 90 days after submission for review.

Personal asthma assistant
The company
Smart Respiratory Products is a London-based digital healthcare brand with a Budapest regional office. Smart Peak Flow is the world's first truly integrated 'smart' peak flow meter, utilizing smartphone technology to enable people with active lifestyles to monitor their health. Smart Peak Flow is CE and GMP certified with international distributors throughout Europe, Asia Pacific, North America and Africa.
The project
Smart Peak Flow is a solution for improving the lives of those suffering from asthma. The device measures the user’s breathing abilities using a specially designed hardware solution with machine learning. The aim of Smart Peak Flow is to provide an efficient tool to patients and physicians for treating this illness. The Client leveraged IronRooster’s experience in medtech to develop the software and ensure quality control.
The collaboration began with a one-month pilot and its successful completion led to our current long-term partnership. The team used a number of optimization procedures to achieve the best possible result. In order to test measurements, our Client provided a machine that simulates human breathing so the team could continuously check the accuracy of results. This process significantly increased the efficiency of the development.
The team succeeded in meeting their main goal of obtaining a CE mark for the device by the end of the first phase. In order to adhere to regulations, peak flow measurements had to reach a specific, required accuracy. The IronRooster team has worked over 15,000 hours on this solution to date.

Technological innovation in the financial management field
The company
Mekyska Management Consultants GmbH offers clients solutions in the area of IT-Financial Management Solutions and IT-Financial Management Consulting. Their diverse range of services hinges on the custom made solutions they provide in the IT Financial Management sector.
The project
IronRooster began working with the Germany-based Mekyska Management Consultants GmbH in 2007 helping them with technological innovation in the financial management field. Since our partnership began, we have worked on a total of 11 projects together. Our collaboration has resulted in the significant optimization of expenditures by customers, a faster working flow, and an improved quality in the data offered by their software solutions. Our two biggest projects with Mekyska have involved the IT Cost Director, a modular software suite that helps customers maximize the profitability of their existing IT infrastructure. The solution enabled the automated and casual allocation of customers’ IT costs, facilitating a company-wide, structured IT landscape with delable data and measurable results.

Telehealth solutions for dental care
The company
DentaLive is a healthcare startup focused on telehealth solutions for dental care. The pandemic of 2020 ushered in the idea for a real-time remote dental care solution. The goal of the solution was to help dental patients consult their dentists and receive advice on next steps for their care from the comfort of their home.
The project
The mobile application developed by IronRooster for the Client allows patients to complete a form and send images to a dentist who can evaluate the information in a web app, provide a diagnosis and, in urgent cases, advise patients to seek immediate care.
The IronRooster team used agile methods during the development and completed several sprints over the course of a three-month development phase. This process made it possible for the Client to reprioritize features and implement new ideas. The global pandemic of 2020 shed a light on the need for teledentistry and the positive changes this technology can bring about rendering this solution the first step in a long-term collaboration with DentaLive.
