They were the ideal team extension, enabling internal stakeholders to take on additional projects while accelerating sprint velocity. Responsive and transparent, the team delivered products that have garnered great success for clients. They required minimal guidance and offered actionable insights.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the president and founder of Sulte Group, a growth marketing agency. We do performance-based growth marketing for companies.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ICVR Interactive?

Our primary challenge was bandwidth. We were growing rapidly and being asked to do a lot of development and engineering-as-marketing builds, but internally, we didn’t have the developer bandwidth. We were looking for a full-service outsourced team that could supplement ours.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We outsourced web and mobile development to ICVR Interactive. They acted as an extension of our team and stepped in to get things released faster. We began the partnership by doing a needs assessment and discussing the projects for which we needed extra development resources. ICVR Interactive was involved in everything from sprint planning to actual releases.

One of the projects they helped us with was building a game app for a client. The idea was that the game, which would be free and give users the chance to win money, would serve as an acquisition tool. My team came on board to build this evergreen tool and run ads. Our design team worked with ICVR Interactive’s development team to build the tool, implementing the appropriate code to create the statistics part of the tool and push it live. ICVR Interactive developed the iOS app’s backend with React and implemented viral loops. For another project, ICVR Interactive built on top of a WordPress site. They did custom PHP development.

ICVR Interactive did end-to-end testing. They had a QA person who tested and debugged everything before it was released. They provided backend project management, so if we needed an additional resource, they were available to talk with our clients.

What is the team composition?

I primarily worked with a product manager, the CTO, and the co-founder. There were other developers involved who I saw on our Slack channel, but what was great was that we didn’t have to manage them; the CTO did. We didn’t have to worry about what each developer was doing, which made everything easier for us. The CTO and project management lead provided updates.

How did you come to work with ICVR Interactive?

I connected with ICVR Interactive at a random event awhile back. When we hit our bandwidth threshold, I began looking at agencies. We’d hired another team, but that didn’t work out. We hired ICVR Interactive because of their methodology and competitive pricing. They were also willing to work with us and serve as our partners, whereas other agencies I’ve worked with required a lot of guidance and instruction.

How much have you invested with them?

My company spent around $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together spanned April–September 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were the perfect extension of our team and helped us complete projects that we probably wouldn’t have been able to execute without them. They helped us accelerate our sprint velocity. I think that if I’d hired someone in-house to complete some of these projects, it would’ve taken another six months, whereas ICVR Interactive knocked them out in a month or two.

Our client ended up getting around 9,000 new emails through the viral loops strategy that ICVR Interactive helped to implement. The solutions they provided were super reliable. The overall value was that we were able to take on projects that we would’ve had to turn down had we not been able to leverage ICVR Interactive.

How did ICVR Interactive perform from a project management standpoint?

They did an awesome job and were very transparent. Having communication technology helped a ton; we used their project management software to manage the deliverables and team coordination. We could get in touch quickly and easily using Asana and Slack. We also communicated via text.

They were super organized and always had a project plan from the start, providing Gantt charts to show when things would be done. Working with them was a relief because we didn’t need to micromanage them; their team just reported to us. They delivered on time and mostly on budget. We went slightly over budget with the game app, but that was mostly because the client requested several design changes at the last minute. If it hadn’t been for that, we would’ve been on budget.

They were very flexible and fair. If we needed their help with tasks that weren’t in the original scope, they worked things out.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were perceptive and had circular thinking. With our previous agency, we had to ask countless questions to ensure that they were considering all of the solutions. We had to push them, whereas ICVR Interactive did all of the thinking and analysis.

They provided strategic recommendations. ICVR Interactive not only served as our consultants but also pushed our thinking. For instance, a big part of the performance-based marketing that we do is building landing pages and WordPress sites and then optimizing them. When our game development client needed help with their traction strategy, our previous development partner said they could build the solution on WordPress, but it turned out we couldn’t. ICVR Interactive pushed back when our original idea was wrong and told us the right way to get it done.

ICVR Interactive were thought partners who went above and beyond, and it was easy for our teams to work together. There were things that my team wouldn’t have thought of, but because they’re experts, they made suggestions and proposed solutions.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they were really awesome to work with. Communication was great, and they always checked in.  My only constructive feedback is that they didn’t understand our marketing lingo at first, but they were eager to learn and got up to speed as quickly as they could.

Any advice for potential customers?

Take a step back and let them lead. Because we had such a stressful experience with another team, I came into this engagement trying to push our agenda. We were behind on the project and needed to deliver. However, instead of pushing what you think needs to be done, let ICVR Interactive do what they do best. You just need to trust that they’re going to get the work done. Also, Slack is the best way to keep tabs on their team.

The team delivers solutions more effectively and efficiently than regional competitors, taking the place of the client’s local team. Each finished product significantly aids the company in advancing toward new markets. They were accommodating in adopting the client’s project management tools.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO of a vision and performance training toolset. We have a platform that provides screen-based tests in addition to hardware that administers tests. That gives us the ability to track therapy and assignments. We started off in the vision therapy market, but we’re not moving toward sports.

Typically, when you visit your optometrist, they work on your ability to see clearly by looking for defects in your acuity. We’re tied more to neurological aspects of vision. That means that we’re interested in the body’s ability to process and react to objects of interest.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ICVR Interactive?

We had a fair amount of development work to do with a small internal team. Our goal was to extend the team to get more done with development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Much of their work was connected to our effort to break into the sports market. With that, there was a fair bit of structural change needed in terms of code and API integrations. We were striving to meet different demands in the sports market versus the vision therapy market.

Our platform consists of Microsoft Azure Media Services and REST API. We have a client app available for iOS and Android as well as a trainer app that’s for iOS only. Our screen-based tasks are executed through a separate Unity app that controls the hardware remotely.

Because of their proven abilities, we extended the scope of the project to include a rewrite of our patient app. The solution was completely rewritten in React.

What is the team composition?

I worked primarily with Ihar (Co-Founder & CEO, ICVR Interactive) and Dmitry (Technical Director, ICVR Interactive).

How did you come to work with ICVR Interactive?

We got connected through an investor in our company who had a prior relationship with them. Our team started working with them cautiously, collaborating only on the Unity app in the beginning.

Within a month, we saw the strong capabilities of the group and the alignment of our designs and workflows. The communication was also really great, so we decided to keep them on for the entire scope they completed.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $20,000 each month on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in December 2018 and still collaborate now.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They have a significant impact on our business. It hasn’t yet greatly increased revenue because we’re just starting to transition into the sports market. We already had the vision therapy market in-hand, and this served as an extension. They made the transition possible, developing screen tests and dealing with data capture.

Their team keeps pushing us toward a point where we can achieve success in a new market. The staff we’ve worked with has been knowledgeable, reliable, and able to find creative approaches to problems.

How did ICVR Interactive perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re proactive about communicating potential delays. Primarily, we use Slack, Confluence, and Asana to communicate and manage the project. We started using Asana because that’s their tool of choice for tracking progress. However, they later adjusted to our preference for using Confluence and Jira. We’ve just started documenting and tracking projects there.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were so pleased with their work that we ultimately ended up removing our local development team. Their developers were moving faster than we could. They work hard to meet the goals we’ve set, even if it means working weekends or long hours to achieve them.

Our team also found their pricing to be reasonable. It’s difficult to find skilled, affordable dev shops in our area, so that was appreciated. They’re able to move through projects faster at a lower price point than local teams.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Because their team is based in Russia, there can sometimes be a bit of a language barrier with the developers. However, their project managers have been able to smooth out communication issues. Additionally, there can be a bit of turnover on their end, too.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Clearly map out your plans and designs for the project. They work very well, but you’ll lose time if you make the requirements too loose. That’s often the case for any dev shop.

ICVR Interactive delivers excellent work while adhering to budgetary and time constraints. Their responsiveness, coupled with their methodical workflow, has made for a fruitful engagement. Customers can expect a detail-oriented team that is dedicated to achieving perfection.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO of a mobile 3D-scanning company that focuses on capturing images of the human body. We have a photogrammetry rig made up of 110 DSLR cameras; it's designed to take a photograph from every possible angle.

We use a production truck on movie sets and in production studios, scanning people to make 3D avatars. These avatars are typically used as digital doubles for movies, as well as VR and AR experiences.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ICVR Interactive?

We partnered up with ICVR for data processing support. We’ve used them for several projects now, to process data, conduct research, and provide development services. We’re hoping to expand our services into different markets, and they’ve helped us put together assets for platforms we hadn’t used previously.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team leverages an extensive set of technologies across multiple projects. For example, they’ve been optimizing our models to work for Oculus VR and some AR headsets, like Magic Leap. We’ve also had them use 3D motion capture devices like Xsens and Dynamixyz. ICVR applies the information gathered by these tools and applies that to our models.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked closely with Ihar (Co-Founder and CEO, ICVR Interactive) and Chris (Co-Founder, ICVR Interactive). I’ve personally worked with at least five members of their team.

How did you come to work with ICVR Interactive?

We met them at a tech conference. We’ve seen them at multiple conferences, and whenever we do, w always have great conversations where we dream up ways to collaborate. We finally started working together, and we’ve been working closely ever since.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent close to $30,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started preplanning for our first project around April 2019, and started it in May of that year. The collaboration is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We wouldn’t have been able to complete our digital human project without ICVR. They were invaluable and great to work with. Also, their turnaround times have been amazing, and their pricing is competitive. They always find a way to deliver within our timeline and budget.

Other providers are not as consistent. ICVR is always on time and responsive. We haven’t had any complaints, which is a testament to their dependability and integrity. Also, we did a trade show with them as well, and they helped us secure more leads and showcases our services.

How did ICVR Interactive perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve enjoyed working with them. They’re organized and available whenever I need to contact them. They use project management tools to make everything run clearly and smoothly. We typically have multiple projects running at the same time, and it’s useful having ICVR give us constant updates. We use Skype fairly often, and I'm able to access their entire team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their attention to detail is impressive, and they always go above and beyond to find areas to improve. Even when I think a deliverable is adequate, they put in extra time to polish everything, making sure every asset is flawless. I am confident knowing that, whatever they create, it’s going to be top-notch.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything, although it might be helpful to have more of them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ask for as much detail as possible regarding project plans. Take your time and go through each question you have. Also, the more that ICVR knows, the more specific they can be with timelines and messaging. Sometimes people skim over that, which leads to more back and forth later on.
