A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of a creative video agency, and we produce digital media content for a wide variety of companies throughout the country.
What challenge were you trying to address with HUVIDEOS?
We hired HUVIDEOS to produce two deliverables for us.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The first film was a two-minute testimonial video for a project we had with a metal service company. The video featured a couple of our external clients’ members where they talked about their membership benefits. The second video was a two-minute reel showcasing our work. We gave them our assets, footage, songs, images, references for past projects, and more. They used Adobe Premiere to edit the videos.
What is the team composition?
We only worked with Mohammed (Senior Video Editor).
How did you come to work with HUVIDEOS?
We got randomly connected with Mohammed on LinkedIn. After that, I reached out to him because I liked his work. We were formally introduced to each other through a Zoom call, and since we work with freelance editors, I decided to give Mohammad a shot to create one of our videos.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent $1,000. For the first project, we spent $600. Then, for the second project, we spent $400.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them in February 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We didn’t have any statistics about their projects, but HUVIDEOS’ films were very well done.
How did HUVIDEOS perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicated through email, and if anything was urgent, we got in touch through LinkedIn. I was the project manager for both projects, and they took directions from me. Overall, they were very responsive throughout the engagement.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Mohammed had a great eye for detail. His decision regarding the transitions, shots, and music was very impressive. Above all, he was creative and I enjoyed the way he worked with us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Mohammed was from Cairo, and our company was in Chicago. As a result, there was natural time disparity that sometimes made it difficult to work on the project. However, we didn’t really face any time constraints. Our only issue was the eight-hour time difference.
We highly appreciated that Mohammed was good at English. Still, there were certain times where we needed to translate our messaging differently.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Communicate with them, and be clear about what you want them to accomplish.

Video Production & Editing for Cairo Television Network

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the executive manager at CGTN Africa – Cairo Bureau, a Cairo television network. It’s a national English speaking channel, and we do news reporting of events.
What challenge were you trying to address with HUVIDEOS?
We needed a highly skilled person to help with video production. We wanted someone who could learn to edit our news reports.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We trained Mohammed (Senior Video Editor) on the kinds of skills we wanted, and he’s been helping us with video production ever since. Most of the work he does is for feature stories and political, business, and sports news. Most of the stories are 2–4 minute segments, but we’ve done 11-minute documentaries a couple of times.
What is the team composition?
We work with Mohammed. He manages the other three editors.
How did you come to work with HUVIDEOS?
When we met Mohammed the first time, he didn’t have that much experience in this kind of work. He was a video editor for promos and advertisements. However, we felt that he had the skills and was serious about learning. We decided to hire him despite his lack of experience because when we tested him, he strived to do things accurately.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent between $70,000–$100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in November 2016, and he’s still working with us.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The feedback from our clients has been very positive. They feel that he’s an asset and praise his work a lot. When we recruited him, they noticed the improvement and sent us a message saying there was something different in the packages we’d sent them. They felt the video editing was better, so the reviews and remarks were great.
How did HUVIDEOS perform from a project management standpoint?
Since there’s a lot of work, we’re in contact by the hour. We used to meet every day, and we would sit down and put the plan for the day together. We would also meet weekly for planning. Since COVID-19, face-to-face meetings only happen once a week. We currently keep in touch through phone calls, WhatsApp, emails, and Zoom.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Mohammed always wants to improve his work. He wants to be creative and add new ideas.
Also, he’s very serious about his job, which is rare in this region. We have a lot of talented video editors, but many of them don’t take things seriously or are responsible at their job. Mohammed is punctual and alert all the time.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Since we’re in the news segment, sometimes there are events, demonstrations in the streets, or violence happening that has to be covered. He has to work under immense pressure and be calm and quick, and it took us some time to get him to reach that point. He can be calm under pressure, but he needs to work faster.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
A personal relationship is very important — you have to feel that you respect him. In that sense, how you treat him as a person makes a big difference. If you treat him too aggressively, he’ll give you your work but you won’t enjoy it. If he feels he belongs and is part of the team, you’ll get the best out of him.
