A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder and CEO of an edtech company located in Hyderabad, India
What challenge were you trying to address with Hoomanly Studios?
We were a brick-and-mortar company, restricted to Hyderabad, and the software we were building would enable us to open ourselves to students and teachers across India. As a result, we hired Hoomanly Studios to help us with the UI/UX of the new learning management software (LMS) we were developing.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Hoomanly Studios designed our platform’s UI/UX, which was the basis for the code that was written by our internal development team. They used Figma for sharing screens, wireframes, and more. We then took their deliverables from Figma.
The first version of the platform had been completed, and we'd be comparing user growth metrics and feedback between the first version and the second version. Our company would launch the beta version in October 2021.
What is the team composition?
I worked with Soumya (Founder & Chief Product Officer). The team basically consisted of one person, with two additional resources being called in depending on our needs.
How did you come to work with Hoomanly Studios?
I had worked with Soumya on a few projects, and I liked him. He was the co-founder of a company for which I provided mentorship. I found his overall product and design thinking to be very insightful and useful. When I was developing this new project, he was my first choice because he was a UI/UX expert.
How much have you invested with them?
The project cost was $5,000–$10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Discussions started around December 2020, and the project ran between January–March 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The most important metrics for us would be centered on user growth. Since the platform was still in the second stage of development and didn't go into production yet, success metrics were more related to how smooth the UX flow was.
We had pretty good success on the platform's version, and we would love to see how the adoption rate would fare in the future. In fact, our user base increased post-April.
How did Hoomanly Studios perform from a project management standpoint?
Their communication skills were outstanding, and they were able to understand our requirements and ideas. We used Figma to share designs, and we didn't use any other project tools. Their scheduling skills were good, but it could've been better.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Whenever we discussed a particular topic, they didn’t just go along with what we were saying. They had the ability to think out of the box, and they suggested ideas beyond what was expected of them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They were handling a lot of projects and maybe they could've tightened up things on their side. Hoomanly Studios met our final deadline, but they could've implemented more minor milestones.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
If the client is looking for a UI/UX designer that can actually participate in the exercise, Hoomanly Studios is an excellent choice. Clients that have a plan and are just looking for someone to execute should clearly set modular timelines.
The client was satisfied with Hoomanly Studios' design work and strong communication skills. With their support, the client's user base successfully increased. The team always found ways to expand the company's ideas to make them even better, allowing them to facilitate a fruitful collaboration.
