Feedback summary:

Heads and Hands completed an MVP in time for the busy holiday season, allowing consumers to use the platform’s basic functions. The team stands out among their competition with their excellent customer service and commitment to clients. Overall, they’re determined, communicative, and understanding.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of an online grocery platform. We’ve been in business for almost two years, and we’ve been growing at a good pace. I handle operations, product development, business development, and day-to-day consumer issues.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Heads and Hands?

We worked with a different developer to build an iOS app, but we ended that relationship. We needed a new vendor to make some improvements to the iOS app and develop an Android version.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Heads and Hands finalized the iOS app, and then they built the Android version of our grocery platform using a Kotlin framework. They completed the development quickly and helped us launch it on the market.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a three-person team, including a QA specialist and a project manager.

How did you come to work with Heads and Hands?

I started out looking for an Android development company in Eastern Europe. I’d previously had two bad experiences, so I used Clutch to filter my needs. On Heads and Hands’ profile, I found that they’d completed projects very similar to mine. After reading through several of the reviews, I chose to partner with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent close to $70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked on this project from January–September 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Heads and Hands completed the MVP in time for a large, busy holiday. Although it was only a basic system, our users were still able to chat with us, make payments, and input their address and registration information.

I’ve been in this industry for a long time, and I can honestly say that the Hands and Hands team stands out for multiple reasons. They focus more on the quality of their work rather than the money they make. They prioritize customer service, assuring that all of their clients have a great experience. I was never disappointed in their services. Based on the great results, we decided to expand their role with our company. We’re currently in talks to develop a software-based application with them.

How did Heads and Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, their project management skills were very good. We tracked the project through Jira, and their team was always on schedule. They thoroughly understood the scope of work, so we didn’t have any misunderstandings or concerns. We reached a point in the project where we could only speak with the project manager on the weekends, and they accommodated our needs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their deliverables are impressive. Even if we didn’t include UX/UI in our agreement, I’m sure they would’ve done it for free. They’re willing to go the extra mile to assure that they deliver the best product. The team is very driven; their desire to succeed translates into excitement for every project they work on.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Overall, I was happy with the way they handled our project. It’s not about money for them, and I value that approach.

While the platform hasn’t been promoted yet, its simplicity and user-friendliness make it a handy tool for marketers. Heads and Hands provided implementable suggestions for improving the product. The in-person meetings helped the project advance at a steady pace and with good quality.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the CEO of Tubalytics, a global and comprehensive YouTube intelligence system that helps marketers discover growing channels, estimate their audience, and explore market trends.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Heads and Hands?

We hired Heads and Hands to develop a UI/UX scheme for our project and create a final design using Sketch/Zeplin and InVision.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create a simplified and elegant design so that marketers feel comfortable while working with our platform, which has different types of analytics.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We reviewed their portfolio and met to discuss the project.

Describe the project in detail.

The first phase of the project was the development of a UI/UX scheme for table views and tools for marketers that included many visual elements. It was completed in two months, after which we began the second phase. This consisted of completing the designs for all the screens and it took three months.

What was the team composition?

We mainly communicated with the project manager and sometimes with the lead designer to quickly resolve minor tasks.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven’t conducted a massive marketing campaign yet, though the interface looks simple and it’s easy to use, especially for daily users.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We communicated through email, Skype, and arranged an in-person meeting every two weeks, which worked out great for us. Not all the deadlines were met, but it was because our requirements slightly changed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They listen to your needs and try hard to fulfill all the requirements. They also give several suggestions for improving the final result.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the head of e-commerce at Petrovitch, a DIY company based in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Heads and Hands?

Our company needed mobile app development, since all our main competitors already use mobile apps.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, they analyzed all our client’s competitors and found that none of them used a chatbot. Our idea was to integrate the first chatbot on the market in this niche and category. The chatbot helps the client minimize workload intensity for the call center, enabling them to answer 85% of clients at once. Since most client questions are typical, the chatbot has streamlined customer service and increased client satisfaction.

The app, which was developed for both Android and iOS, can also calculate the cost of delivery. This is a distinctive and valuable advantage, since no DIY companies calculate delivery costs along with additional services that clients may need.

By integrating online and in-store shopping, the app makes our client’s service the only channel. Customers can come to the store and use their mobile phones to scan the barcode of the items they need. In Russia, this was hugely progressive; no one had done anything like it before. People who are addicted to their gadgets can use the app inside and outside of the store simultaneously.

The app also saves the customer time. While they are using the app, it prepares the order for them so that it is ready by the time they leave the store. A lot of items are heavy in nature, so this provides a more convenient, enjoyable shopping process for the customer. Our teams worked together to create the app and ended up with high-quality results.

What was the team composition?

We worked with the owner, a client service manager, as well as developers and the marketing and analytics team.

How did you come to work with Heads and Hands?

Since we had a short turnaround on a complicated project, we met with a lot of companies to find a responsible partner. Heads and Hands demonstrated that they could complete the project. In addition to having a great portfolio of previous projects, they were very friendly and professional.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent $111,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in August of 2016, and the project was completed in June of 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has been downloaded 100,000 times so far, has 4 stars in both app stores, and accounts for 10% of the company’s income. It occasionally has some issues, but feedback has generally been positive. Feedback informs us about how our customers want the app to change and improve. The process is very interactive, allowing customers to influence the app’s future evolution. Many users are industry professionals, such as designers and contractors, and the app has improved their daily business processes and management. They are very happy with the app because it has given their jobs a new flexibility and freedom.

How did Heads and Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

I am pleased with how they performed as a partner and as a project management team. They were very strict and met the deadline without any delays. I am very satisfied. We are still working together on new projects.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Working with them was fantastic. Their approach was effective, not just theoretical. When we started the project together, they made an online order through the app to preview the customer’s experience when purchasing heavy items.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I am fully satisfied, and cannot think of an area in which they could improve.

User feedback shows the app as more stable and free of crashes. Heads and Hands assigned an impressive measure of customer service to the engagement and even performed the initial code review as a courtesy. Their testing experience also proved vital in identifying bugs within an API.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a project manager for a holding company with 100 restaurants in Russia. We also have restaurants in London, New York, and Baku.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenges were you trying to address with Heads and Hands?

We have about 50 delivery restaurants in Saint Petersburg and Moscow that operate via an iOS and Android application, as well as through a website. We needed to completely rewrite the Android app since the company we used initially didn’t do a very good job.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Heads and Hands took the source code for our Android app and did a review. The report wasn’t very good, so we decided to completely rewrite the code. We also needed to make some user interface improvements. We provided the design from the first app version, but the screens and user controls also required some improvements.

It’s a native app written in Java that functions as a catalog of restaurants, each of which has its own menu. Users are able to make orders through the app.

They also provided consultation, but we handled marketing on our side.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two project managers and one team lead from their side. I’m unsure how many developers were involved.

How did you come to work with Heads and Hands?

We looked at a couple of other companies in Saint Petersburg but chose Heads and Hands because they’d built a huge delivery app in Russia and also had experience in our area.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We had an initial discussion with them a year and a half ago, but there were some delays on our side. The project started in the summer of 2017.

The app has launched, but we have an ongoing collaboration. They’ve done a couple of fixes and updates to the app and continue to monitor our crash log. We’re discussing some ideas for the second stage.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has integrated analytics, but we need more time for user feedback because it was only released a month ago during the holidays. We’ve talked to some of the users who have said that the app is more stable and free of crashes.

How did Heads and Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

They made weekly reports with lists of completed tasks. We also received weekly builds so that we could see the progress. We communicated during the holidays and weekends on a couple of occasions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have very good testing experience which allowed them to find some bugs in our API. The project management on their side was friendly and timely. They reviewed the code from our first version for free.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything was fine.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I would recommend them. They have mid-range pricing for Saint Petersburg and provide reasonable coding and testing quality, which are both important for this kind of service.

Their quality of work is evident in the delivered product. Following the apps' launch, profits have increased, with 40% of sales via mobile, and there's been positive feedback from users. Future updates will continue to improve these results.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a grocery delivery service. I am the CTO.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Heads and Hands?

We wanted to create mobile apps to go along with our website, giving customers a new way to order groceries. Since we didn’t have an internal team, we decided to outsource the project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our app for Android and iOS, which is a typical e-commerce platform with a catalog, profile pages, order history, and a real-time tracking page for users’ orders. We wanted to make it as simple as possible, while fulfilling all user requirements.

They helped with publishing to the app stores and designing landing pages for our site, as we wanted to have a consistent visual style between the web and our apps.

What is the team composition?

We work with around seven people from their team, including a project manager, two iOS developers, two Android developers, a QA engineer, and a designer.

How did you come to work with Heads and Hands?

We found them using a ratings site. There was a contest and we talked to several outsourcers. Heads and Hands had a good vision for our project and a portfolio containing similar apps.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of their work was between $10,000 and $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the discussion with them in late July 2017. Our apps were ready by the end of December. We continue to work with them on an update and other projects for internal use.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The initial versions of the apps are live in stores. User feedback has been good overall, and the ratings of both apps are around 4.1. This is a good result, but we still have several changes to make.

Profits have been visible, given that more than 40% of our orders are being made through the mobile apps.

How did Heads and Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

There have been no problems with communication, and they don't require much attention. We want to participate in the project as much as possible, to share our vision. So, we communicate often, with the initiative being ours.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I like their designs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything was fine.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

It's important for clients to participate and offer as many details as possible, even if it’s assigned to an outsourced partner. This rule is valid for all developers, not just Heads and Hands.

Feedback summary:

Heads and Hands’ work with the website made it more useful and appealing to users. Strong project management, the ability to meet short timelines, design expertise, and their experience in working with survey data all contributed to the project’s success. There’s nothing they need to improve.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the senior corporate communications manager of Kaspersky Lab. We provide IT security solutions and services around the world to both home and corporate users.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Heads and Hands?

After we created our main product website, we started looking for an agency that could develop landing pages with specific features. There are many figures that must be presented in a coherent and useful manner so users understand what they are seeing.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We created a number of landing pages using Heads and Hands. We conduct large online surveys around the world in which we ask users about the devices they use, how they’re being used, their online habits, the problems they worry about, what efforts they’re making to protect their devices, and so on. We have done this for several years and have gathered very interesting and useful information. We determined that the content could prove interesting not only to us, but also to journalists, researchers, students, and average people who want to know more about the cyber threats landscape.

Initially, we focused on 3 key statistical figures to help people assess their current cyber threat situation. The first figure centered on people who were afraid of being the targets of cyber crimes; the second looked at how much people had already been affected; the third showed how many people had been protected from such incidents. Putting these 3 figures together allowed us to see how bad or good the situation was, and how it was changing over time.

These figures are complemented with other useful stats for understanding what the average behavior of an internet user was — for example, which devices are people using, how are they protecting them, how much money can be lost after falling victim to a cyber crime, and so on. We also broke down numbers into types of cyber threats, years and countries of occurrence, the ages and genders of people being affected, and so on.

The Heads and Hands team added more development resources as needed since we had a short deadline. Heads and Hands was great in this respect.

How did you come to work with Heads and Hands?

We issued a tender and looked at 5 or 6 companies. We looked at offers from different groups and Heads and Hands had the best one. They had some good design suggestions and offered to complete the project in a short timeline. This was important for us since we needed to launch it very fast.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Heads and Hands in December 2016 and launched the new version of the website in early April 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We plan to finish gathering statistics for the website at the end of June. Subjectively, everyone who has seen the website has said that it’s much more useful and beautiful than the version we had before. How did Heads and Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

I have worked with many other agencies — not only web design ones — and Heads and Hands has one of the best project management styles I’ve ever encountered. They always tried to keep us updated and created a special timeline page featuring all the stages of the work.

What did you find most impressive about Heads and Hands?

I liked the design provided by Heads and Hands. Since they have experience working with complex statistics, they were able to take the information we gave them and make it look great on the site.

Are there any areas Heads and Hands could improve?

Nothing comes to mind right now.

Feedback summary:

The Heads & Hands team delivered a complete solution, quick turnaround time, and strong customer service while supporting US social networkers.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are social networking company. Our first project was FoxRT, which gives users the ability to find media content on Twitter and customize it into their own tweets. For example, instead of retweeting someone else's content, a user can customize that content and integrate it into their own timeline.

What is your position?

I am the chief executive officer of the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Heads & Hands?

Users could achieve the functionality of our app manually by looking at the code behind each tweet. Someone can visually recognize where a video or picture is within the code of an embedded tweet, extract it, and put it into their own timeline if they want. That was still a manual process, so we wanted to create an algorithm that could do the same thing through an app. So, instead of taking 5 minutes, the process would happen immediately, and all someone had to do would be to go into a dialog box, change the comment, and post it. We had no idea how to do this, so we presented our concept to Heads & Hands.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

Heads & Hands created our whole solution. The original idea behind the app was quite simple, namely finding content within a feed. Heads & Hands created a search functionality for us, as well as a way for users to copy links. There are now 2–3 ways of finding desired content and reposting it on multiple Twitter accounts.

As an example of this functionality, we had a Super Bowl event during which we put everyone's Twitter accounts into one instance of the app. Every time someone scored a field goal, we posted the video to all of the accounts. During those 3 hours, we accumulated over 532,000 impressions. Everything that we did was followed by a huge audience. For one video in particular, we accumulated close to 300,000 impressions. Thankfully, it was an exciting game, so we had the chance to post a lot. We were able to create our own network using all the followers in those accounts. It was easy to do since not everyone needed to make the same tweets over and over.

How did you come to work with Heads & Hands?

This was our first time engaging an app developer. We contacted several different companies, both in the US and from other countries. We came across Heads & Hands' website and sent them an email. We immediately clicked, and the team understood what we were trying to do. Heads & Hands had great customer service in terms of responding immediately to all our requests, even though they were 7–8 time zones away from us in Russia. We got replies within an hour instead of the next day, which happened with US companies.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The cost of Heads & Hands' work was between $15,000 and $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Heads & Hands in September 2016. From the first contact to the actual launch, there was a 3- to 4-month period. There was some initial testing involved as well before we launched the app on Google Play in December. The app is within its second month of being live, and we're still making little tweaks and bug fixes to it. Heads & Hands will be posting the next update in 1–2 days.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

So far, we have reached fewer than 100 users on each platform, but we haven't done any advertising for the app. Everything has been word-of-mouth since there are a few bugs that need working out. We also added additional functionalities to the app. We plan to have a major push after the next update, and we're talking to an advertising company for this.

How did Heads & Hands perform from a project management standpoint?

We presented our idea while Heads & Hands assigned a project manager and a timeline for the work, detailing exactly what would be done and when. It was done to the day and even the hour in some cases. We received updates on Friday, even though we maintained communication during the week. The process was fairly regimented in terms of knowing where we were, where we were going, and what had been done.

What distinguishes Heads & Hands from other providers?

Heads & Hands' customer service and their unbelievably quick response rate to any questions we had always amazed me. I contacted a company in the US about a different matter, and I didn't hear back from them for 3 days. With Heads & Hands, we have a great rapport and have almost struck up a friendship online, even though we've never met. Instead of writing short emails, Heads & Hands gives us descriptive texts about our status in amazing English. I always think that I'm talking to someone in the UK because of this.

Is there anything Heads & Hands could have improved or done differently?

This was my first experience with app development, but it's been a homerun. I had bad experiences with other app developers even during the bidding process, so I can't say anything negative about Heads & Hands. Our last update required 2 hours of work, and Heads & Hands did it without charge. They've told us a price and stuck to it every time. I wish this happened for all the businesses I've worked with.

Do you have any recommendations for others considering working with Heads & Hands?

I found that giving Heads & Hands the freedom to formulate their own ideas in order to solve our problem is an amazing approach. I would present them with the obstacle we were facing and have Heads & Hands' project manager come back with a plan. I use our app myself, and my follower count has exploded as a result, so I came up with many ideas from this.

I know that with many companies, there is a need to micromanage the work, but giving Heads & Hands freedom to work on problems worked great.

The client is pleased with Heads & Hands' ability to understand customer needs and design an app around them, though there were some project delays that could've been avoided with better planning. However, the client still appreciates their work and would recommend them to others.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are video management software [VMS] and solutions developer company based in Moscow, Russia. I am a senior product manager in the department of product management. I am responsible for driving products and high-severity projects in different fields.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Heads & Hands?

We are required to answer market demands for a thin mobile client solution for our VMS,  in addition to the thick desktop client.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

H&H was involved in designing and implementing the navigation between cameras and corresponding events. The most challenging part was to implement live and playback video streaming control sufficient to meet the CCTV field’s delays and UX [user experience] requirements.

How did you come to work with Heads & Hands?

An RFP [request for proposal] was sent to the top 10 Russian mobile developers who were not focused on gas, oil, or government projects. We picked H&H based on their portfolio and their response to our RFP.

How much have you invested with Heads & Hands?

We’ve spent $40,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in March 2016 and finished by February 2017. We are currently planning our further cooperation on product development.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

How did Heads & Hands perform in terms of project management?

Project management was good. They were very cooperative, responsible, and worked closely with our team.

What did you find most impressive about Heads & Hands?

They were deeply involved in the project. They understood our customers’ user stories and demands pretty well.

Are there any areas where Heads & Hands could improve?

We haven't met our deadlines due to technical issues. They should focus more on the tech side; scheduling the critical path based on the most difficult task might have helped us. We've stated clearly that task is quite difficult and demanding.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Heads & Hands?

If you have an idea about what's going to be the most demanding aspect of the project, you should insist that H&H schedule the project based on it.
