We were launching our first product in the UAE and were looking for an experienced, leading edge performance marketer to lead us through the launch. Our goal was to get the team up to speed on growth best practices while acquiring our first user-base as effectively as possible within the constraints of our capabilities.

We evaluated a few local vendors in the market we were planning to operate in when GrowthCurve arrived as an option. The deciding factor was that Mulenga, who would be leading the engagement, had successfully executed a similar business with a similar demographic user base and product before.

First, we went through an onboarding process to register accounts and create access for the different platforms that would be required. We started with generating a mailing list with a landing page and paid ads ahead of launching the product in the market. This toolkit included Adjust for mobile attribution. We learned a great deal with the first market launch and are now looking at getting everything set up ahead of the next market launch.

We worked with Mulenga - the account manager and overall lead marketer, Michael the media buyer, and Jade who managed the creative studio.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
In the first six months, we generated a base of 30,000 users and proof of product-market-fit with a positive NPS.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We have weekly check-in calls to go through budget, aligning on campaigns and unlock any blockers. We also have a Slack channel to discuss concepts and raise urgent issues.

Launching various products over a yearlong period, growthcurve created and implemented strategies around user growth & retention (both B2B & B2C). This included organic and paid growth.

Having worked with growthcurve before, it was a no-brainer to commission the work again.

As a relatively flexible and iterative project (with many moving parts and new products), the scope of work needed to be equally as flexible. Growthcurve adapted to this style of work effortlessly. At the start of each month, key deliverables were agreed (set against a wider agreed strategy) and each month the previous months metrics were analysed.

For what projects/services did your company hire Growthcurve?
We were looking to launch our app, and test our various metrics: retention, conversion and ARPPU. Additionally, we wanted to get to a point where we could successfully scale campaigns in a ROAS positive way. Allowing us to grow the app, and raise further funding for other extensions of the business.
How did you select this vendor?
We found Growthcurve through a past connection with Mulenga. I had been impressed by his success at Monese and is in depth knowledge on performance led creative.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
We talked with Mulenga and team our ambitions with the business. Namely our vision to provide a new format of entertainment. We also discussed our key KPI's and what success looked like. This would then be translated into creative that would deliver this proposition to the user, across multiple channels.
What was the team composition?
We worked closely with Mulenga and more recently, Michael. These were our main points of contact.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Through constant iteration of creative, audience and channel, we were able to reach ROAS positive over the last few months. Will April 2021 being our most successful month ever. We reached 143% return on ad spend in April! This has built a strong base for us to grow from here, and given us confidence to continue to spend and expand audience and market targeting.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We have had weekly meetings with the team, discussing strategy, creative and ongoing ideas. I've especially valued them challenging us on some ideas we had, and usually their suggestions have resulted in success. I've especially appreciated them pushing back on our creative ideas, in place of more bluesky thinking!
What did you find most impressive about this company?
The Growthcurve team is always challenging us in the right way. There's always a right way and wrong way to do it! They've constantly pushed us to think in more exciting ways from a creative point of view, pushing outside the box of what competitors and other apps are doing. I've also found it useful to discuss fundraising tactics with Mulenga, as his vast experience in guiding startups to success is hugely helpful.
Additionally, in the grand scheme of things, we're a small client for Growthcurve. However, I've always felt the team have made us feel like we're a key client! This has been reflected in their energy and excitement to help us grow.
Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?
Being able to feed more creative thoughts into the process would be useful, though this is pretty minor. If we were spending more, I know this would be the case! Additionally, it would have been great to have had more speedy interactions when it came to implementing some of the recent data changes impacting marketing.

We chose Growthcurve because we are impressed not just by their media buying knowledge but also with their behavioral product mechanics expertise ie. the full customer lifecycle - making sure we arent chucking money at a broken product.

We engaged Growthcurve after having worked with them in the past, onboarding was easy. We have slowly been scaling up our acquisition over the last few months as the product comes to market and constantly testing and learning before opening up new budget.

They are more technical than any other team, not a standard approach - but almost a split between engineering/product and marketing.

It would be great to communicate more before creative is developed to make sure that our roadmap and UI is up to date with the screens they are putting in our ads. This is especially because we are moving very fast and our app is in constant flux at the moment.
