Please describe your company and your position there.
I am a project manager at a HealthTech startup in the UK. We simplify the communication between patients and practitioners. We have a small team locally and some trusted partners that we work with externally. I oversee multiple projects and primarily manage development teams.
For what projects/services did your company hire GIC.сodes?
We hired GIC for building our iOS and Android apps. We were looking for a team with some previous experience in Healthcare domain to help us develop the first version of our product. We have been working with them ever since
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to develop an MVP version of our app with some of the features we've prioritized and mapped out internally. Our goal was to launch something fairly quickly as we had multiple parties interested in trying it out. At the same time, quality and scalability were extremely important as we wanted to continue the development after the initial release.
How did you select this vendor?
Initially I made a shortlist of about 5-7 vendors through online search and personal references and then narrowed it down to 2. GIC.codes stood out because of their proposal, which transparently outlined exactly how would they approach our project , their relevant experience and the fact that we were able to meet with them face-to-face in London.
Describe the project in detail.
The project is essentially two native mobile apps for iOS and Android that helps people find the right practitioner, set appointments, and consult with them through our state-of-the-art telemedicine technology. We started by having several discovery sessions with them to formalize the scope of the initial MVP. They made a lot of valuable inputs that made us redefine our initial plans a bit and follow a more effective roadmap. We then took a pause and created first designs internally and started working with them in an Agile way - they were doing the development for iOS and Android, while we were finishing the rest of the designs. They mentioned that they have a design team in-house, but we wanted to do the design internally. This approach was quite challenging at times and we had some miscommunications at first, but then we were able to put things on the right track.
What was the team composition?
First, they assigned a business analyst, project manager, and a software architect for the discovery phase. Then they added 1 or 2 Swift and Kotlin developers and a QA engineer. We communicated a lot with an account manager, who helped us with the onboarding and was always curious about our feedback.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We've successfully launched our MVP, which went really well and we have been constantly updating the app. We currently have over 50,000 downloads and 4+ ratings in both AppStore and GooglePlay. The development is ongoing with lots of features in the backlog
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
I found the initial discovery phase very effective in terms of the overall impact on the project as we were able to narrow down and simplify the scope as much as possible while keeping all of the most important stuff in place. In general, they were easy to communicate with. We had minor issues at the start of the development phase, but that didn't affect our overall experience
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Since I believe they are not that big of a team, they really pay a lot of attention to make sure you as a client is happy. They are ready to go extra mile, they make valuable suggestions and it always felt like they are an extended part of our product team and a partner rather than just a third-party provider.
Are there any areas for improvement?
We didn't have all the designs ready before the start of the development, so things were moving not as fast as we wanted, but that was probably our fault. But if I were to pick one from our experience, it would be their ability to adjust to the project with lots of moving parts.
