Full-service creative video agency
Flightless Bird Creative was born in the age of brand new platforms, shrinking budgets, and need-it-now turnarounds. When we looked at the changing state of our industry, we knew the traditional methods wouldn’t cut it. We envisioned a resourceful and agile production company, one that could do everything that a creative agency, production studio, and post house could do.
Thus, Flightless Bird Creative began with a novel principle: We are ever-changing. We don’t get too comfortable in a locked process or workflow. Each project deserves individual love and care. Sure, we have tried-and-true methods, but we’ve taken a vow to never say “no” in the face of a challenge. We’re perfectly happy to reinvent ourselves every project if it means doing it perfectly.
When you’re tired of hearing reasons “you can’t” and are ready for ways “we can.” We like a challenge anyway.

Venom Steel: Tough Protects Tough
Venom Steel was looking for a new way to showcase how much of a beating their tough-as-nails industrial gloves could handle. They had come to us before to make their gloves look badass, but this time they wanted to see what we could really do. After collaborating with Walton Isaacson, we locked in the idea to release a campaign driven by 15-second videos of their gloves surviving dangerous garage experiments (everything from blasting them with a bolt gun to filling them with two gallons of bbq sauce). They had us at bolt gun.

Bite Squad - Couch Buddies
Both on set and in the office, food delivery has been a staple of the FBC diet, so we were plenty familiar with BiteSquad. Between deliveries, our team had an idea for a food delivery ad that we started to get really excited about. So we contacted Bite Squad out of the blue and said, “We have an idea for a Bite Squad commercial that we’re really excited about.” Thankfully BiteSquad is a really cool company, and the project was kicked off.
Our concept was that two guys (AJ and Stephen) are swiping through BiteSquad’s app, and each time they view a new restaurant, they zoom (couch and all) to the middle of that restaurant. AJ swipes nonchalantly, Stephen is on a rollercoaster. By the end, we’ve seen that you can get any type of cuisine through BiteSquad.

Anoka Ramsey Community College
FBC teamed up with Anoka Ramsey Community College to create a short film centered around their "Reveal" campaign.

CandiQuik Quik Bites!
CANDIQUIK makes delicious chocolate and vanilla coatings for make-your-own-dessert recipes. They were looking for a fast and fun video series for their social media, and were accepting concepts of all types (our dream come true). We came up with a concept that lived at the perfect intersection of cute and hilarious: A cooking show with a child chef. Thankfully, CANDIQUIK saw what we saw.

Lawrence: "It's Not All About You" Music Video
This project is all thanks to our executive producer, Kevin, going to see Lawrence live in concert. Kevin now had a new favorite band, and the rest of our office slowly caught up. So we reached out to Lawrence and said that if they ever needed a music video, we were their people. It just so happened at that time that Lawrence had a single coming out, and that they wanted a music video for it. Ask and you shall receive.

The Medela Moms' Room
Medela is a maternity brand that offers products and tips for breastfeeding mothers all across the country. They told us they were looking for social media videos to promote their exclusive site for motherly advice and maternity products called The Moms’ Room. When we pitched our concepts to Medela, we told them that our team has a love and specialty for comedic videos. It’s at our roots and it’s our favorite hobby. They took this in stride and gave us plenty of creative freedom in the concept creation and scripting phases. We wanted these videos to be fun, lighthearted, and high-energy comedies. Our goal was to show relatable mishaps that moms could connect with, and hopefully laugh with too. Thanks to our collaborative client, on-point crew, and hilarious actors, they came together perfectly.

Please describe your company and your position there.
We are a global software solutions company serving various industries. I am a senior event manager on our company's global events team. We plan the internal events for our various divisions ranging from sales kickoffs, incentive trips to our customer facing user conferences.
For what projects/services did your company hire Flightless Bird Creative?
Due to covid-19, we had to pivot quickly to virtual events and find a creative way to present our content to ensure it was engaging for our attendees. We were planning a user conference for one of our divisions - all virtual for 1700 of our customers from around the world.
This was the first time we've ever brought everyone together to one event (normally we separate out by region - North America, EMEA & APAC). We had an event with about 30 sessions that we had to pre record, edit with graphics and make sure they were all engaging (not just death by ppt).
What were your goals for this project?
Engaging content - we knew by the time our event would happen, everyone would be suffering from virtual fatigue. We created our agenda with shorter sessions times but now had to ensure our sessions had the most engaging content - especially our keynote as we were unveiling our newest solution.
This session had (4) speakers - one in the U.S, one in the UK, one in France and one in the Netherlands - all for the main session that we had to have the best quality, best creative design and most importantly, consistency across all four speaker recordings.
How did you select Flightless Bird Creative?
We worked with them before for in person events and knew they were very professional, reliable, extremely talented and great to work with. There was no doubt in our mind that they were the best fit for what we were trying to do.
Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.
FBC worked with our marketing team to create the storyboard, gave ideas based on our theme, and offered very modern, creative and impactful suggestions. They worked with us from start to finish, truly understanding our vision and what we would like to produce.
We trust them fully and they exceeded our expectations, as always - for every project.
What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?
Truly wonderful to work with this team. They are extremely creative, kind, professional, flexible and patient. In this very stressful and unique time (our team was new to virtual events) they helped ease our minds. They were always responsive and truly an added value to our project.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We received amazing feedback from our event surveys - that our sessions were the most engaging they've seen. Well designed with thoughtful graphics placement and lots of creativity.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The best. They were very clear with their timelines, met every deadline set and always patient and responsive with all of our questions. AJ never hesitated to jump on a call when we needed assistance or had a million questions.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Their work - always top notch. Their professionalism is impressive and simply a joy to work with. Example: In the beginning i didn't understand how each session would be recorded so i couldn't really explain to the speakers.
AJ understood this right away and created a quick 2 min video for me to share with speakers that gave an extremely clear overview of what to expect. This is a true example of going the extra mile to ensure we are comfortable with every step of the way.
Are there any areas for improvement?
none - we can't wait to work with them again

Video Production for Community College
“We were able to authentically represent the college in a way that excited many stakeholders with different interests.”

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work as the marketing and communications manager at a multi-campus community college in Minnesota.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flightless Bird Creative?
We wanted to create an updated branding video to help promote the college.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We had several initial conversations with them as well as our admissions team and other groups across the college to ensure that as many voices within the college as possible were being heard. We also really wanted something that would appeal to younger generations and a vendor who could bring a lot of creativity and guidance to that project and not just execute on what we were thinking, and they helped us a lot with that goal.
They participated in a lot of the scripting and story development, as well as a lot of outreach to individuals to shoot for the video across all of the different campus locations. From there, they handled the filming, post-production editing, and posting to our website, social media, and some paid advertising channels as well.
What is the team composition?
We worked with a lot of different team members, including two main contacts during our planning phase, as well as a larger team for the multiple shoot days that we conducted, and then the finalization of the project.
How did you come to work with Flightless Bird Creative?
One of my colleagues had worked with them at a former role, so we decided to include them in our RFP process based on her experience. Throughout that process, they rose to the top right away because of their pricing as well as their youth and creativity, so it was a relatively easy decision process from there.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project ran from October 2019–June 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Throughout the project, we used a less formal evaluation process just based off of my own knowledge of working with other vendors as well as our performance on the deadlines and communication that we requested from them. They were absolutely wonderful to work with in all of those respects.
How did Flightless Bird Creative perform from a project management standpoint?
We had to alter the timeline for the project a couple times because of our campus’s schedule and what makes for good filming in terms of appropriately representing what life on campus is like. Despite those changes, their team was incredibly flexible and accommodating to us, while also being diligent with the new timelines and making sure they made all of those work.
Throughout the project, even in terms of the final delivery of a few elements, their turnaround time was always surprisingly quick. We had an opportunity to do some advertising on a channel that we weren’t expecting original, and they were completely comfortable altering the format of the video in order to allow us to take advantage of those changes quickly.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It sounds a bit generic, but I really cannot understate the value of their flexibility on the project. We had a contract and a clear scope of work, but life throws you curveballs, especially on a college campus, and their ability to work with us and make sure that we were getting something that we were happy with in the end was an incredible blessing. As a result, we were able to authentically represent the college in a way that excited many stakeholders with different interests.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I really am totally satisfied with the results of the collaboration.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Let them be creative. After our first meeting, they were able to come back to us with an idea and plan that encompassed everything we were looking for and brought more to it than any other vendor would have done for our budget. Giving them the leeway to do that was the best thing we could have done for the project.

We dealt with the lead project manager and the creative animator.
