A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the director of a software development company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We were trying to move our desktop client to a web app.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We had already written the backend for the web app, and we brought in Flatlogic to design the UI/UX and build the frontend via Vue.js. They also handled project management.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with a junior developer, a senior developer, a UI developer, as well as a project manager.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
We found them through an internet search
What is the status of this engagement?
Our partnership began in February 2021, and we will be ending it in June 2022.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve just recently launched, so it’s too early to collect any kind of data. Overall, however, Flatlogic’s services have been very good.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management is very good. They take time to understand the project and our goals, and they assign people with the necessary skills.
We use Trello for project management and Slack for communication. We also hold regular meetings via Google Meet.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re very flexible when it comes to drawing personnel for specific timelines and technologies.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I don’t think so.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I would definitely recommend engaging with them.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the president of a software and services company. Besides building software, we operate and manage the solutions for our clients.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We wanted to make a technology change that would impact how our backend tools and database interacted with our clients’ front-facing sites. While we had the skills internally, there were so many projects going on that we needed to bring in another development team for support.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Flatlogic assigned Angular developers to work alongside our team on our site development methodology. Their main focus was to modify how we built and operated sites on our platform.
Our solutions typically have a database layer with a management and configuration tool on top. From there, we create an exposed layer that acts as the user-facing website. Flatlogic worked with us to develop a methodology that refined the interaction between the layers to get our web services in top shape.
Once we completed the first projects, we were able to apply the new methodology to other projects. It’s now our go-to process for developing sites off of our platform.
What is the team composition?
We work with three developers.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
I’m not sure what the selection process was, but we brought them in for an internal project first.
What is the status of this engagement?
The engagement started in March 2019. We’re still working with them to rebuild our administrative tool using the same architecture concept along with a few other projects.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Because they work on such individualized projects that are the first of their kind, we don’t have anything to benchmark their success.
But, in general, they perform comparably to our internal team or other external partners that we might find in the US. They’re easy to work with and understand what we’re trying to do. Once they learn an approach, they’re able to replicate and apply it back into the process.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
Their developers fit into whatever project management style we have for a given project. That could be through a third-party project management team or through our own managers. When working with us, they keep us updated through Trello boards and other project management tools.
What did you find most impressive about them?
There’s been a level of consistency with Flatlogic’s developers that we haven’t seen with other companies. They work well with each other, too. If one developer doesn’t have enough time to work on a project, they’re able to seamlessly transfer workloads to another developer to get up to speed.
In addition to their ability to swap team members, we also appreciate that they can expand to meet our needs. We’ve gone from 1–2 developers to 3–4 and have the flexibility to ramp down depending on our program.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I assume there’s a greater management level on their side, but we don’t normally coordinate with them. It would be nice if they knew more about our programs so that they could see the bigger picture and assess their capacity. That’s not necessarily something we’re asking for, but it would probably be helpful if they were proactive on it.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
As with most projects, it’s a good idea to have a definite scope along with base examples of what you’re trying to do. Make sure that everyone is onboard with the scope so that they can deliver a detailed estimate of the hours involved.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re building a cybersecurity platform around enterprise cybersecurity management. I’m the director of engineering.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We needed help building an interactive dashboard with a good user interface to integrate into the backend for MVPs.
What was the scope of their involvement?
First, we had a workshop where I mocked up some elements of what I wanted it to look like. Then, I shared features I had in mind for the integration we had with third-party solutions. Next, we designed it. I chose Roku as the database with JavaScript all the way down, and React on the frontend. I let them implement the backend as they saw fit.
What is the team composition?
I worked with Eugene (Head of Integrations Department) and one other developer.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
I was looking for nice UI dashboards and they had a nice one that’s written in several languages. One of those languages was View, which is an up-and-coming language. It was nice, elegant, written, and easy to deploy. I figured I would go with them based on that.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $20,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working together in March 2020 and wrapped up in May 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The color scheme is very nice and the components they picked out and customized work well together. The code was elegant and it’s all very intuitive. The graphic design is on point and functions how we want it to. It was a good experience all around.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They had good communication, updates, and progress as we expected them. They were in constant contact and all of our objectives were met. It was very easy to communicate with them. We used WhatsApp to stay in touch.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They excel at creating user interfaces. We’re very satisfied with the outcome.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, not at this time.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
My advice is to give them a shot. They’re high-quality people and high-quality engineers. I’d highly recommend them for anyone looking for good design and well-implemented code.

Development Augmentation for Drone Data Startup

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a co-founder and the CEO of Optelos, a software company providing AI-powered visual analytics and data presentation software for the drone and manufacturing industries.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We had a core team working on the cloud-based web application, but we needed to scale that development team.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We were using the MEAN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, AngularJS, and Node.js), and we needed additional resources to develop the AngularJS UI. They augmented our team, working with our lead developer, who’s based in Austin. They wrote different functionalities for us.
We do a lot of visual data presentations, meaning that we take images and videos and apply a presentation layer to them. Their team has primarily helped us with that presentation component.
They’ve also sourced a data scientist for us, and we’ve continued to use them for critical development needs, especially around the AI work we’re doing.
What is the team composition?
When we first started with them, we were only using one developer. It went well, so we grew the team to four, including a senior developer.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
As we were growing, we purchased some of Flatlogic’s templates and UI tools. We liked the work they did, so we reached out to see if they could help us with some of our development needs.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $400,000 so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Flatlogic in April 2017, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They’ve had an impact on our time to market, and on our ability to be responsive to customers’ needs. These are critical aspects for us and have allowed us to produce high-quality products in a rapid timeframe.
One of the successes we’ve had was to do with a manufacturing company we have as a client. Flatlogic worked with their team to provide all the AI and UI work, and we were able to deliver it in about six months.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re responsive and adjusted to the one-hour time difference to provide a nice overlap with our local team. We have daily engagements around the progress and use fairly standard tools, including a repository. The communication is active and timely, allowing us to get things done.
They’re very disciplined, in terms of maintaining the code repository and making sure people properly check in and out. We have meetings and code reviews, and we’re comfortable having their lead developer in charge of those, working with our team.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re very talented on the technical side. As we’ve grown the team, we’ve had fairly specific needs, for which they were able to source the right talent. Secondly, they interact very well with our team. We treat them almost as employees, unlike with some other overseas partners. With their talent, understanding, and interaction with our team—the engagement and communication are really impressive.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We’ve been happy working with them, so I can’t think of anything. They’ve always been extremely responsive and have provided us with the level of expertise and talent we need.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Make sure that the requirements and scope are well-understood. As we’ve onboarded people to get work done, we found that the more defined the initial scope, the better. There’s discipline around following best practices, and that’s allowed us to understand what Flatlogic was good at, and how we could expand their role. As with anything, it took them a while to understand our business and what the relationship should be.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the managing director of a coupon platform. We offer deals and coupons to customers shopping online. We also offer white-label solutions to partner companies to monetize their traffic via coupons.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We engaged Flatlogic to help revamp our platform from a WordPress blog to a more flexible and self-developed community base. We needed help coding the frontend of both the site and the mobile application.
What was the scope of their involvement?
For the site, Flatlogic helped us create a static template file that a server can prerender for the user. We used our internal template engine to transform dynamic data into the template. It produced HTML markup with CakePHP, Javascript, and CSS helpers.
Flatlogic developed the new app as a hybrid platform for both Android and iOS. They used React Native which provided flexibility in writing and compiling an app in Javascript for different devices.
What is the team composition?
We worked with one developer for the website and another for the mobile app. Philip (CEO, Flatlogic) scaled our resources as needed.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
We were searching for a ready-to-use template for the platform’s admin area and bought one from Flatlogic. The code was clean and well-developed, which impressed me. I reached out through their website and inquired into their development services.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $50,000–$100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with Flatlogic between September 2015–November 2017.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Flatlogic met all requirements in developing the updated website and mobile app, which has launched on app stores. Flatlogic’s work on the app garnered praise from our employees; despite a lack of updates from our side for a year and a half, their app still works well, which speaks to its quality.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They communicated effectively from start to finish. Philip offered to join the development process at key deadlines, which I appreciated. We had regular phone calls to keep up-to-date on progress and could reach out easily whenever a problem arose. We preferred to call instead use chat programs like Slack. I had direct lines to developers and didn’t have to rely on a point of contact to relay instructions, which was important to me.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Flatlogic adapted to our technology stacks, pivoting from CakePHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript to React Native easily. They quickly provided developers with entirely different skillsets to meet our project needs
Are there any areas they could improve?
We had some misunderstandings in the beginning. Our team did not make specific functionalities and the ideas behind them as clear as we could. As a result, the developer implemented it incorrectly. However, we resolved with clearer communication going forward. We’re overall highly satisfied with their work.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Have a long set-up call with their team; make sure all questions are answered before starting development.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the founder and CEO of Hubsoft. We're an online order management platform.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We needed help with moving our app onto an Angular platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They moved our application from the older Java GSP user interface to an Angular platform. We wanted to take our existing application and enable it with the API, creating a new interface. First, we discussed the design and the basic UI layout with them. After we made sure all the screens had consistent validations and confirmation messages, we started building specific sections and functions within the application. It's a collaborative process and they’re working alongside our development team. It's a big and complex application, so replatforming it isn’t a small task. We've completed about 80% of work at this point.
What is the team composition?
We work with one or two of their team members.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
I was looking for an offshore provider. I saw some of Flatlogic's work online and liked their skill set, so I decided to choose them for the project.
How much have you invested with them?
We've spent about $130,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in September 2017 and the project is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Their team is very skilled at developing the architecture in Angular, so they've been able to deliver a very good platform. We've received a positive feedback from everyone who has seen the application.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
We have daily meetings and they're doing a great job keeping the project on track. Since I'm the project manager, our in-house team is in charge of most of the documentation.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They're very experienced and knowledgeable. Their team is much stronger when it comes to the Angular framework than the other vendors we've worked with.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can't think of anything.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of QodesyQ Technologies, a developer of web-based products. We do lots of cloud solutions primarily for the nonprofit sector.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We needed help with some frontend work and browser-based software development. We started from there, and our partnership with Flatlogic has expanded to platform customizations.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Flatlogic does a lot of infrastructure work related to the maintenance and building of our software. They use tools like Jolt, npm, and Node.js to automate the build and deployment process. Our apps support Electron for native installation on Windows and Mac. They mainly use Angular but will soon start using React Native for mobile devices.
Flatlogic has also helped a bit with our design and UX/UI. I give them high-level concepts and goals, and they execute on those plans. Most of their work is behind the scenes, developing technology and improving our design.
What is the team composition?
We always have one person on full-time, and I interact directly with whoever is doing the code.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
I found a dashboard template they built that I really liked, so I researched them and eventually hired them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $15,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We partnered in January 2017, and the work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Flatlogic got us up and running much faster than if we had done everything by ourselves. I only have positive things to say about the quality of their code.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re highly responsive, and we’ve never had any communication issues. They’re typically ahead of schedule, and we share code through GitLab.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re experts in their field and the cost is incredibly reasonable. I’ve worked with other firms that are inexpensive but don’t do good work, and Flatlogic isn’t like that. They strike a great balance between price and technical expertise. They proactively engage with our project, answering questions and improving the final product.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, everything has been great.

I'm a co-founder of a booking platform.
What challenge were you trying to address with Flatlogic?
We were looking for a company to build our internal CMS, and we were on a tight deadline.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Flatlogic built a CMS that holds the whole load of inventory we work with and integrated it with our internal APIs. They used AngularJS, JavaScript, and HTML for development.
What is the team composition?
We had a project manager and we also interacted with the developer they assigned to us.
How did you come to work with Flatlogic?
Their website looked very professional and I could download the examples of their past work. I liked what I saw and it looked similar to what we needed. Also, they had a can-do attitude, so I chose them.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them between February–August 2017.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They gave us speed, which is what we were looking for. The CMS is intended for the internal use only, and our team is impressed.
How did Flatlogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They did a great job. We communicated through Slack and instant messaging, so we could contact them any time. We were also happy with their level of documentation and responsiveness.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The contractors we worked with in the past would try to cover up their mistakes, but the team at Flatlogic was very transparent and addressed any issues quickly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. We were happy with what they did for us.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be clear about what you need done. You need to have a firm idea of the scope of the project, otherwise you will waste a lot of time.
Flatlogic has successfully helped the client launch their web app. The team has understood the project requirements in-depth, managed the timelines well, and assigned resources with the right technical skills.
