A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the co-owner of Styles by Stallings, an event planning and design firm. Our team also provides floral designs and installs pipes and drapings.
What challenge were you trying to address with The Fellas Media?
We hired The Fellas to have a more polished online presence and attract more customers through videos and multimedia products.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They’ve done graphics, videos, and photographs for our online presence. They also provided branded photos and videos for us. To do that, they come to our events, take photos, and capture videos. Apart from that, they also give us tips on how we can further improve our digital presence.
The creative process depends on the project we have. Sometimes, I give my input on the project. Other times, I tell Alton (Owner) to use their creativity. This is especially true when it comes to videos. For instance, if I’m producing an event and I want to showcase our drapes, I tell them to highlight the drapery while also showcasing the entire event. Then, they put together the final videos.
I also let them take care of all photographs and editing. Alton simply asks me what I want and then goes from there. Since I’ve worked with his team for a long time, they also already know what I’m usually looking for; I also don’t tell them too much unless I’m looking for something truly specific.
What is the team composition?
Apart from Alton, we also work with Acianax (Project Manager) and Carlos (Senior Video Editor). I mainly work with Alton, but his team members reach out to me from time to time.
How did you come to work with The Fellas Media?
I came across The Fellas at an event. A relative of mine hired them for that event on which our team was also working. When I was taking pictures with my iPhone, Alton told me that he could take pictures for me since he was already taking pictures at the event. The next day, he sent the pictures to me, and I was able to put them in my portfolio. Simply put, we decided to hire them because of the quality of their photos and their quick turnaround time.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around a few thousand dollars on their services. Some of the projects cost $150, while others cost hundreds of dollars.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with The Fellas in September 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I like The Fellas’ creativity and the polished look of their output. They make our work look better. Moreover, their resources are always kind and pleasant. They always try to accommodate our needs, and they feel excited about what they do.
I’ve even asked them once to travel with us to another city to introduce them to some of our clients — those clients have also become their customers. In other words, I like them for myself so much that I recommend them to other people.
How did The Fellas Media perform from a project management standpoint?
Their communication and timelines are fair. The Fellas has grown so much over the past year, and Alton is bringing in new team members. As a result, he’s allocating some work to his team members. There’s a little shift in our communication; I’m used to working directly with him, but he has to assign other members to me at times. In other words, I have to adjust a little because their business is growing.
To communicate, I reach out to them via phone or text messages. Alton studies the best ways to communicate with his clients. In my case, I don’t deem late calls and texts as unprofessional, so he knows can call or text me any time of the day. Other clients prefer emails, but Alton knows I’m slow when it comes to emails. As a result, he adjusts to my style of communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The Fellas’ work is professional and creative. They have a commercial look, which makes our services look professional, too.
Are there any areas they could improve?
As Alton grows his business, he should grow his team in a way that matches his style and character. That way, everybody gets to see who he is through his team.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be open-minded, and trust the creative process that Alton uses. He might not have a traditional approach to projects, but his approach is fresh. He has a millennial perspective and a fresh eye for things. He also comes from a creative background, so you should trust his creativity. At the same time, don’t be afraid to tell him what you want. He can take care of it and handle it the way you want.
The company has gained a more professional look, thanks to The Fellas Media’s services. The team is highly accommodating and kind, and they communicate well even when they have to handle a growing team. They adjust to the client’s communication style to ensure that the engagement is successful.
