This was a major project.

We are an online dating service, where service can be accessed via website and app. Our systems are delibertely more complex, as we focus on quality of membership and not mere quanitity. As such the coding is extremely complicated to not least enable as genuine membership as possible. From screening to automated reviews, complex rules between types of members etc.

Our previous IT team had just finished the very comprehensive and complex task to replace legacy of website with the language of new app. The new IT team was responsible for building a completely new app in flutter, while importantly facilitating a seamless interface with all serverside setup and technology as well as the website and website users.

I’m the founder and owner of KYG, a SaaS startup company focused on an AI agent to manage communities.

What challenges were you trying to address with Empat?

We wanted to build an MVP we had in mind for our business.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Empat helped us with web and mobile app development. We started the process by sharing our idea with the team so they could help us clarify our next steps and how the final product would look like. After that, they gave us an estimate for the final deliverable, which was an iOS and Android mobile app.

In addition, Empat’s work also included the creation of mind maps based on our ideas, user profile and journey development, UI/UX design, production, and testing. In terms of technology, they used Ruby on Rails and Native iOS and Android platforms.

Regarding functionalities, the app is an overlayer for WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, and Telegram that allows community owners and community members to create profiles, search users, communicate, share documents via Dropbox, conduct AI-generated interviews, and manage events.

What was the team composition? 

We worked with around five members of Empat’s team, including Nazar (Founder & CEO), a project manager, an iOS developer, a backend developer, and a QA specialist.

How did you come to work with Empat?

Someone within my community referred Empat to me. We decided to go with them for this project because they had experience with startups, so they knew where to dig into and what questions to ask to understand what was important to this project. Overall, it was obvious that they were the right choice and would also help us save a lot of money on this project.

We spent around $50,000 with them on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February–September 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Empat delivered as promised. The user testing results were satisfactory, and everything went great. The team also offered three free changes to the platform.

How did Empat perform from a project management standpoint?

Empat stayed on budget and within deadlines. In addition, they were open to feedback throughout the process and flexible and understanding with our change requests.

Regarding tools and communication, we used Slack, Telegram, and Notion.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review? 

Nazar was a great guy to work with and helped me save a lot of money for this project by making everything easier.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Empat's experience was key to the engagement's success. They previously worked with several startups, so they knew what approach to take with us to help us avoid common startup mistakes and waste money. They were committed to our success by playing a professional advisor role.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Due to the time zone differences, It'd be great to have them in the same city to avoid early morning or late evening calls because Empat's team is based in Ukraine, and we're in the US.
