We were trying to develop an app that would provide networking materials for college students to connect with campus ministries.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The designed and developed the app from start to finish, and the solution is now available in both iOS and Android.
They implemented a mapping feature that maps the user directly to the campus ministry building on campus, which are sometimes hard to locate otherwise. Users can also “save” and interact with various campus ministries directly from the app.
The app has been launched, it’s gone through beta testing, and it’s in the 90-day window where you’re still working out kinks.
What is the team composition?
I only interacted with two people primarily from their organization. In the beginning, we worked with a sales team. Then, we had one main contact for the process of the app build.
How did you come to work with Dot Com Infoway?
I asked one of our department heads to find three bids, and Dot Com Infoway was one of the top two companies. We negotiated back and forth until they came out as the best option. We decided to go with them because they were able to create the app from start-to-finish.

We’ve invested about $15,000 with them so far.

Our original contact with them was somewhere around April of 2019, and we’re still working with them.

Overall, we’ve been satisfied. They deliver good quality work. There have been some kinks, and it’s taken longer than they originally said. The original estimate was three months, and it’s dragged on for at least a year. However, there were delays from our end at times.
How did Dot Com Infoway perform from a project management standpoint?
In general, they performed well. They were very receptive to feedback. Whenever we wrote feedback, we’d get a very good response in 3-4 days, and they’d be open to making the changes that we asked. Their process was fairly clear, and they were adaptive as well.
There were a couple of times when there would be some fairly major kinks with the design they were working on (e.g. there would be a problem with logging into something they sent us.) I’m not sure they "checked all their Ts and dotted their Is" before sending the project off to the client to take a look. But, they always fixed these issues.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They understood what we wanted, and the deliverable is almost identical to what I had envisioned. I’m happy that the product I envisioned is now a reality, and they were able to make that happen.
Are there any areas they could improve?
If they’re working with clients from other time zones, they need to be available when their clients are working. They also need to make sure they have an effective means of communication.
For instance, we’d work primarily off of Basecamp. But, if we needed to schedule a phone call, it would be between 1:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. our time, which is difficult for a nonprofit to accommodate. They would want it on either Skype of WhatsApp, and those calls would often drop. One time, the call dropped 6-7 times on Skype within one hour.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
When you go into a project, you’ll want three things: good quality, good cost, and a good timeline. Usually, you only get two of these things. With this company, you’re going to get good quality and good cost, but not within a good time. For me, it was worth it. I’m very happy with our app, it just took longer.

They started off doing our digital marketing and promotion for our apps. We’re a political party and I work in the IT department.
What challenge were you trying to address with Dot Com Infoway?
We wanted to develop a website and the mobile app. They began with the Android app, and we found them to be good, so we gave them the website project as well. They’re working on both projects now, and both are nearing completion.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They worked on the website and an Android mobile application. Technology-wise, they used PHP, Linux servers, and an AWS hosting environment. We have a PostgreSQL database, and we’re using the typical Android stack, with third-party applications.
What is the team composition?
There were 12–15 members working on this project, split between the website and the Android teams.
How did you come to work with Dot Com Infoway?
They’re close to us, so we met in person, plus their prices are very good. The first reason for choosing them was cost, but, over the relationship, we came to understand that they are also technically sound.
How much have you invested with them?
It cost $75,000 for the app, website, and a year of maintenance, along with the AWS hosting space.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in March 2018 and we will continue with other projects that we have in mind: new editions of the app and some database projects.

There have been changes in the scope, but they’ve gone the extra mile to develop and deliver it. That dedication to extensions makes them stand out; they’re with us throughout the journey, helping us technically.
They’re up-to-date on new technologies too. They’ve delivered to our expectations and are good and reliable partners.
How did Dot Com Infoway perform from a project management standpoint?
They use some internal project management tools. Dot Com is primarily a tech company, rather than comprising business people, so some of their communication is a little difficult. However, if we give them a clear scope, they’ll deliver it.
They come for meetings whenever we call them—it’s easy to work with them. They have a lot of experience, and their founder is well known.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They operate from a tier-two city, and relative to what they deliver, they have a cost advantage over other developers—they’re an attractive proposition for customers. We decided to build an economical website and app, so we wanted a good-value partner. We were impressed by how they were able to deliver whatever technologies the website required.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They should focus more on helping the customer come up with a definitive scope in the initial stages. They’re good, but they could go deeper into the customer’s mind.
Beyond that, they could improve their product understanding and management, along with proper documentation.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
The client should come up with the proper scope, rather than just an idea. They’ll take it from there.
