Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the co-founder and CTO of Rise Financial, a fintech company in Canada. We offer a prepaid Visa card to small and medium businesses, quick access to a prepaid card, and a spend management mobile app solution for SMBs.
What challenge were you trying to address with DevEngine Technology Ltd.?
We needed help to develop an MVP. An investor invested in our business, so we wanted to go forward and create a prototype.
What was the scope of their involvement?
DevEngine developed the MVP from scratch. We initially provided them with some mock-ups and UI wireframes. Everything was deployed in AWS, and they built the mobile app for iOS and Android with React and Python for the backend. They created a search lookup that allowed users to search by phone numbers or email. Users also needed to upload some identification documents to validate them later on.
New users could download the app and find the company; they needed to be incorporated in Canada to use the app. Once they were signed in, the documentation was verified through the app, and they had access to a commercial prepaid Visa. Additionally, they had a dedicated Rise email address that they could use to collect e-transfer money deposited on the card using the Interact network available in Canada.
People could use the card to buy things online or anywhere Visa’s accepted. After a week, we’d also ship a physical card with a business name so they can use it in-store.

We had seven developers from their team.
How did you come to work with DevEngine Technology Ltd.?
We were looking around for an agency to develop our MVP and found DevEngine online. They were based in Canada.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $65,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The partnership lasted from March–November 2022.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
DevEngine successfully developed the MVP. Releasing the final product was a significant milestone; it took us about seven months to do the whole mobile app on Android and iOS.
Moreover, the app worked well and connected to banking infrastructure. Since we’re not a bank, DevEngine helped us connect to the bank and a security proxy called VGs to protect credit card information. Although it was a complex integration, DevEngine achieved it. We finally went live two months ago; we currently have customers using the app.
How did DevEngine Technology Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?
They were active and responsive during the project. DevEngine delivered the tasks on time, and we used Slack, Google Meet, and email to communicate. Additionally, we used Jira as a project management tool and to write user stories.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They understood what we needed, offered immediate solutions, and followed up. Moreover, DevEngine had a great pool of candidates with excellent communication skills. They had great project coordination and were invested in the project’s success.
Are there areas they could improve?
They could review the current pricing model. We paid per hour, but sometimes, if you have a bad developer who takes longer than usual, you might spend more money.
Any advice for potential customers?
First, be clear about your needs, requirements, and the type of people you want to hire. Define a profile and get ready to interview people properly. Finally, prepare your questions in advance and have a structured interview process. DevEngine will listen to your feedback and try to give you exactly what you’re looking for. They'll filter differently if they send a candidate you don’t like.

We needed staff augmentation for our ongoing tech projects. Our goal was to complete a very aggressive roadmap that was set out by Product Management that would enable buyers and sellers of private equity to find each other and transact on a platform

The deliverables from the vendor teams were of high quality and they fit into our team's culture and working norms seamlessly. It was easy to communicate with the vendor team even if they were remote. The team was professional and delivered what we needed them to delivery to meet our aggressive roadmap.

Th team members were integrated with our own core teams so they communicated with us regularly on our TEAMS channels. They were expected to follow our working norms and there were no issues with this.
