Rethinking event planning
Client
Solar da Levada and Quinta Lago dos Cisnes are probably the most iconic event venues in the North of Portugal, they praise themselves for a very complete service. From mesmerizing locations, great food and drinks, picture-perfect decoration and party animation turning any event into an unforgettable experience.
Besides the wedding venues, they also own a public bar and store, Bamboo and Coconut. Meet our most romantic client, which offers sophisticated and striking experiences designed for the most exquisite customers.
Challenges and objectives
This project actually started with a small challenge: creating a simple website with a structure that would suit three different venues. For the wedding venues, the website allowed the user to book a visit and check availability, it also had a simple private area where brides and grooms could see useful information. The bar website didn’t require any of these features, the focus was more on the venue adjustable schedule and menu.
At that time this solution was enough for the company's needs, but it opened up the opportunity of enabling the brides and grooms to organize every aspect of their event through the private area. With over three hundred events happening every year this tool presented the opportunity to digitalize the wedding management process for the company and, at the same time, a flawless experience for couples.

Promoting interaction through competition
Client
AAUMinho is an academic association of the University of Minho that addresses the students’ needs, being the representative structure and community of all students of the college. They organize annually START POINT Summit — an event that promotes and enhances direct contact between the participants and the job market. At this event, the students can find out about job opportunities, try networking and learn from the best experts in the field.
Challenges and objectives
Our client wanted a mobile app that would be a digital evolution tool for the event to bring more value for participants and, at the same time, make the organization easier. The challenge for our team was to motivate students to participate in activities and visit as many booths as possible. On the company side, we had to provide them easy access to information about participants (CV, profile).

Mental Health for youth
Clients
SMS - Successo, Mente e Saúde is an intervention project based on the Cognitive-Behavioral Model created to help schoolchildren (from 7º to 9º grade) better understand and deal with mental health issues. The program was developed by a team of experts of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra to be implemented in schools.
Challenges and Objectives
Our client wanted us to develop an e-learning platform - SMS eSaúde -, which would include two Programs: SMS Jovens and SMS Educadores, to complement face-to-face classes. SMS Jovens would be dedicated to teenagers and it aims to promote mental health and provide psychology tools based on scientific evidence. SMS Educadores is directed to their educators, to potentiate the effects of the program SMS Jovens.
The challenge for the SMS project is to find a way to prepare pupils for personal obstacles they can face: understanding themselves and their emotions, interacting with others, etc.

Steppint into the future with a paint simulator
Client
CIN is a Portuguese paint and coatings company and marks its position in the list of the fifty largest companies in the world. The brand aims to provide continuous improvement and innovation through its products, services and tools.
Challenges and objectives
At that moment CIN already had a mobile app, but the company wanted to give the app a new look, investing in technological innovation to provide a better user experience.
The challenge was to keep the app's essence but at the same time refresh design and implement innovative and surprising features. Besides improving some that already existed in the previous app - store locator and CIN color’s card, we needed to implement new and more challenging ones: the paint simulator and the color identifier.

Taking employee's empowerment to another levelF
Client
Flourister is a startup focused on creating sustainable impact through collaborative on-the-job learning for companies. This platform offers a tool to educate people to turn learning into performance.
Not all companies can afford to use their employees' work-time for participating in training or boot camps. Moreover, it doesn’t always have a practical and long-lasting effect. The objective of Flourister was to create a platform for collaborative learning with digital communities, actionable feedback, personalizable development journeys - accessible to anyone and anywhere.
Challenges and objectives
John, Flourister founder, was looking for a development partner, someone he could rely on to evolve the product to the next level. He already had an app and our challenge was to enhance it technical-wise and to be flexible to launch new features whenever a user's need comes up.

Retirement planning platform
Client
Reformas na Suíça is a company that provides support in organizing the retirement of people who immigrated to Switzerland. The company helps people to locate and monetize all their money, takes care of the entire process of returning to their country of origin and planning their pre-retirement and retirement.
Challenges and objectives
Our client wanted to create a platform to optimize and simplify their processes. In the first phase of the project, our task was to create a website where people would find more information and leave their contacts to be contacted later.
After our client noticed that the number of clients increased, we started to think about a more sophisticated solution. And here is where our real challenge begins. The goal was to create a very clear and intuitive experience of planning and managing retirement from the comfort of home.

Client Oriented Approach on Designing Homes
Client
IODOMI is a Swedish startup founded by Xiao and Sebastian, an architect and designer. They’ve noticed a problem, that all design firms exist mainly in major cities, disregarding the rest of the population. IODOMI arises to fill this gap. So they got the idea of creating a design platform that provides access to professional services from experienced designers from the comfort of your home at an affordable price.
Challenges and objectives
The challenge was to create a web app to unite professional interior designers and people who need design services. Designers have a place to showcase their previous work and clients can hire them for their projects

IG filters as a marketing technique
Instagram filters. You’ve tried a few by now I bet. These use augmented reality (AR), which gives an interactive experience that allows digital objects into a real-world environment. These effects can improve our perception of real-life in an entertaining and educational way.
Brands are adding this new tool to their marketing strategy because they want to give their current or potential customers free and fun experiences related to their product. This has become the ultimate marketing technique to engage with the target audience.
Generally speaking, there are two marketing purposes of these filters. One is practical (give people the opportunity to try their product remotely, like sunglasses, hats or paint on the wall) and another is entertaining. This second one helps to create an emotional bond between customer and brand. And that’s what we went for.

Smooth event planning
Grupo Spormex creates memorable and professional events and exhibitions for companies. With over 30 years of existence, SPORMEX combines deep knowledge and experience in assembling exhibitions, fairs, stands, tents and events of any kind around the world. It offers varied services such as design, production, stands, carpentry, advertising and photography.
The challenge for our team was to create a tool for Spormex that would help them to use and manage their resources (staff, materials and vehicles) efficiently. Nothing works better than an organized company to achieve better results and satisfied clients.
Summary
With the development of such a smart product, we helped Spormex be at their A-game and became a synonym to “organization and planning”. Our client was able to obtain a smooth and stress-free experience on planning and execution of its services.

Design System for a growing business
Client
Frenetic is a power electronics company created with the goal of making magnetics simple. With their AI technology, the company is revolutionizing the world of magnetics, replacing the need for outdated engineering methods.
Challenges and objectives
The challenge was to create a new design system that would allow them to be ready to create new pages and features when needed, as the company is rapidly growing. Another request was to design an organizational presentation template that would work for different purposes.
THE HAND-OFF PROBLEM
We met with Xiana (Frenetic UX Designer) for her to point out the problems that they wanted to be solved. Our help was needed to create a universal design system with all necessary components (e.g. buttons, inputs, etc.), which will ease and speed up the process of creating new screens and features in the future.
The main problem was that initially, they were creating designs on the spot and when the product started growing fast, it became difficult to create new pages and keep consistency.
ANALYZING THE EXISTING ELEMENTS
After analyzing the existing materials, we had a better understanding of what was missing and started working on 3 types of elements: style assets, elements and components.
DESIGN SYSTEM
The style assets included: colors, typography, logos for different backgrounds, icons and spaces. The elements ranged from buttons, dropdowns and inputs to checkboxes, toggles, tooltips and more. And finally, on the Components, we created different tables, modals, tabs, toast messages and info cards. This really made a fantastic tool for scaling the design practice, reducing the need for hand-off and promoting more collaboration.

Please describe your company and your position there.
The SMS – Sucesso, Mente e Saúde (Success, Mind and Health) is a University of Coimbra’s project, based at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences (Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive and Behavioral Intervention) The University of Coimbra (UC) is an institution with important national and international partnerships, dedicated to teaching, research, knowledge transfer and community support.
The UC also has a specific department which accompanies UC projects with regard to technological surveillance and encouraging entrepreneurship and partnerships. The SMS project is coordinated by me and comprises a team of specialists from the UC, from the areas of Psychology, Education and Software Engineering and international specialists as project consultants.
For what projects/services did your company hire Codepoint, and what were your goals?
The SMS – Sucesso, Mente e Saúde (Success, Mind and Health) intends mainly to promote mental health and prevent depression in 3rd cycle of education adolescents and contemplates the implementation of the SMSjovens (for adolescents) and SMSeducadores (for parents/guardians) programs, in a blended format, that is, a in-person format with the access to a web platform.
In this sense, a search began for a company specialized in the development of web platforms, and Codepoint was selected. We aimed to develop a responsive platform that included an open access area for the community in general and two reserved access areas for the two SMS programs and their respective participants: the SMSjovens and SMSeducadores.
We also wanted Codepoint to develop interactive resources (namely videos, games, comics, forums, quizzes, graphics and records), based on the scripts of texts and instructions that the team of specialists at UC produced for all these features, which would be placed in areas with restricted access, especially the SMSjovens program.
It was also intended that Codepoint would develop a gamification component, in the SMS eSaúde(eHealth) platform, in the SMSjovens program, with the collaboration of the UC team, especially the UC project team member from the Software Engineering area, so that the adolescents would earn points, gems and crowns for their participation in the programs and associated tasks (e.g., games, records).
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
The decisive factor in choosing Codepoint was the quality/price ratio, as the company had a very clear advantage in this aspect compared to other national companies we contacted.
Besides that, the first contacts with Executive Director of Codepoint were very important, as she gave us confidence and led us to believe that the company would be competent and would help us achieve our goals and expectations regarding the platform.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
The SMS project wanted a responsive platform that adolescents, guardians/parents and users of SMS programs could use in the program sessions and between sessions. Initially, the concept of the SMS eSaúde platform was presented to the Codepoint team and its visual identity was discussed.
The next step was the development of the landing page, taking into account the desired features and the information we would like to be introduced. The SMS project sent all the necessary texts, to be introduced by the Codepoint team in the back office that was developed by them.
Thus, during the development of the platform, the SMS team sent the audios of mindfulness and compassion, so that they could be introduced into the SMS eSaúde platform, and the scripts of graphics/charts, videos, games, quizzes and comics so that they could be there implemented.
Throughout the process, regular feedback was given on the development and progression of the platform's features, with frequent discussion of ideas and discussion of implementation options.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
The SMS team had a closer contact with SMS manager at Codepoint and with Codepoint Executive Director, who attended regular meetings with the SMS team about the SMS eSaúde platform. At the beginning of the development of the platform, we also had a close contact with Designer at Codepoint who was responsible for the graphic part of the platform.
In some meetings we also had the presence of Programmer at Codepoint to clarify doubts about the programming of the platform and its execution time. At the end of the backoffice development, we also had a meeting with another codepoint team member who explained to us all the backoffice functionalities and clarified the doubts that the SMS project team presented.
In addition to the aforementioned elements, we know that other people from the Codepoint team contributed to the final result of the SMS eHealth platform.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
The SMS eSaúde platform is currently being used by adolescents in the 7th grade of two schools in the municipality of Figueira da Foz covered by the SMS intervention. From the feedback obtained, we believe that this platform is an added value to its users, making the contents of SMS programs more appealing.
In the near future, we intend to present the platform itself and indicators of outcomes, in the media and in the scientific community, after the University of Coimbra has ensured its protection in terms of patent and copyright.
Until that moment, the use of the SMS eSaúde platform in the two schools targeted for intervention is restricted and experimental, and it happens in students who frequent the SMS programs and are authorized by their respective parents to use the platform. The project team is therefore waiting for this “green light” from the UC to promote a more massive use of it and, in coordination with the Codepoint team, to publicize it.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Codepoint showed great availability to hold online meetings with the project team, weekly and whenever necessary, presenting ideas and solutions to the challenges that were posed. Additionally, by email and by telephone, questions and doubts from both parts were clarified and the progress of the work was presented. We believed that Codepoint revealed simple and effective management and communication model.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
The availability of the team to solve the challenges/problems posed, as well as meeting the expectations of the SMS team.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
We believe that there is always a way to improve our work. However, we are very satisfied with the work carried out by Codepoint and the product developed. Therefore, the company Codepoint is a company that we highly recommend for the development of responsive platforms integrated into projects with objectives and challenges similar to those of the SMS project.

"They're not just our supplier — they're part of our team."

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner and CEO of a small startup company. We created a learning experience management tool with all the features and functionalities needed for social learning within corporate organizations. Instead of watching videos or getting micro-learning nuggets, users get input from the platform, apply it, and then get feedback from sources around the system who can see them doing the work.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codepoint?
I’d been working with a partner that wasn’t delivering on time and quality, and the platform they offered wasn’t state-of-the-art, so I reevaluated and decided to change providers.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Codepoint took over the development of our web and mobile applications and rebuilt them in a new technology platform. They were also in charge of the UI/UX design.
For the web app, Codepoint created the front- and backend. The backend includes client management, content management and creation, publishing, and high-performance learning journeys. As for the mobile app, the team built it for both Android and iOS. They developed the frontend and added functionalities that support digital communities, actionable feedback, and development journeys for our users.
Other features they added to the app include creating groups that can manage themselves and adding coaches that we can assign to those groups. The team also developed an authoring tool where experts can create fast learning journeys, focusing on the transfer from knowledge to practice or applied behavior. Codepoint still handles new feature launches whenever the need comes up.
Additionally, Codepoint has helped us with web design and to set up our website. Right now, we’re in the early stages of development for a new culture survey tool they’ll build for us.
What is the team composition?
The team composition varies depending on how many features we’re implementing. Right now, we’re working with three people from Codepoint, including a senior architect and developers.
How did you come to work with Codepoint?
Our previous partners were also in Portugal, and when looking for new developers, we didn’t want to change the region because I was comfortable with the work culture. I researched with a friend who’s an IT consultant, and we identified a few companies in Portugal, from very big to small, so I had a broad range of options to talk to. Within a week, I’d interviewed around 12 companies.
From that process, we selected Codepoint because they were a smaller company, very flexible, and client-oriented. We got the feeling that they’d put in in the center, and their planning was very agile.
How much have you invested with them?
So far, we’ve spent around $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in August 2018, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The system Codepoint built is much faster, more reliable, and easier to develop and evolve. Additionally, the authoring tool is extremely easy to use. We’ve raised a few hundred clients and up to 2,000 end-users in the last year; we’re a B2B provider, so we sell our product to trainers and not directly to end-users.
Both our clients and end-users say the platform is extremely user-friendly. Users don’t need explanations or tutorials; they can open the app, start playing around, and within 20 minutes, they know exactly what they need to do.
Since it’s software, the platform crashes occasionally, and there are bugs sometimes. Codepoint works on bugs immediately whenever we flag them as urgent. Otherwise, we discuss minor bugs in our meetings.
How did Codepoint perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re very good at project management. We’re using the Agile methodology, and we don’t have overarching deadlines. Instead, we periodically define what we’re capable of financing and what we can achieve in sprints with those resources. Codepoint always ends each sprint with the goal achieved, so I’m very happy with them planning-wise.
We have a weekly planning meeting via Zoom and Skype where everything is very transparent and lean, and they have their own customer management tools. I always know where I am regarding what they do and the cost of their work; our contact is very reliable.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Codepoint delivers high-end products that work. I’m also impressed by how they connect and work with us. They’re not just our supplier — they’re part of our team.
Overall, working with Codepoint is very nice; they’re open, transparent, and responsive. They have some very cool senior developers, and they also bring in new people they coach. We must always have more than one person working on the project in case something happens, and they take this very seriously.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t see that they need to do anything differently. Of course, for a startup, pricing is always a concern. However, I think Codepoint’s prices have been pretty fair from my point of view.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
To work with a software developer in general, you should have an idea of what you’d like to achieve and how and then identify the right partner. For a mobile app like ours that is lean and achievable within a few months or a year, Codepoint is a perfect partner.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of MMAPP Technologies, a software development company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codepoint?
We wanted to develop a mobile application that’s used for a very specific use case, but we didn’t have the staffing to do so. As a result, we hired them to build the app for us.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We already knew what we wanted, how we wanted the mobile application to be done, and how much budget we needed, so Codepoint mainly helped us develop the app according to our specifications and within a given timeline.
What is the team composition?
We work with four people, including a project manager, supervisor, and developers.
How did you come to work with Codepoint?
We were searching for development partners on various freelance service websites and their company eventually came up. After interviewing them, we decided to hire them based on their knowledge, expertise, and credibility, as well as the quality and price of their service. Plus, they really seemed to be the best choice compared to other providers.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent about $10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in September 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
So far, we’ve only had a restricted group of people test out the app — they say it’s very informative. Other than that, we don’t really have any specific metrics because we’re still finalizing the app and talking with key stakeholders to use it.
How did Codepoint perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve been always on time in terms of deliverables and communication, and we’ve had no issues. Whenever we provide feedback, they’re able to incorporate everything without messing with the budget or quality. Overall, they’re doing a stellar job.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I really appreciate the sincerity and honesty in their work — they’ve been fulfilling our expectations at a fair price. Their communication skills are also off the charts.
Are there any areas they could improve on?
It’s been a good relationship so far, and I don’t have any complaints.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure you know exactly what you want before beginning the project.

Associação Académica da Universidade do Minho is the representative body of the students of the University of Minho. My position is director for employment and my function is to bring students closer to the labor market.
For what projects/services did your company hire Codepoint, and what were your goals?
Every year we organize the START POINT Summit, the largest fair of employment, entrepreneurship and training at the University of Minho. This year, we wanted to introduce something new and differentiating and for that we contacted Codepoint to help us develop an app that would help the event.
How did you select Codepoint and what were the deciding factors?
Since the first meeting we felt great empathy for the Codepoint team, for all the availability and interest they showed in this project. It wasn't the cheapest option, but it seemed to us to be the best option and ended up justifying it.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
To start, we had a meeting to define the project goals and align milestones. Starting the project, we were presented with wireframes with the app design. After being approved, several students were interviewed in order to understand if the design made sense and if it was really intuitive and interesting for the final user.
Next, we moved on to the development of the mobile app, and when this stage was over, the necessary tests were performed in order to ensure that everything was ready for the final launch.
How many resources from the Codepoint team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Three people worked directly with us. Me and Andreia, as CEO, were the connection between the two entities. Rita, the project manager, received all of our feedback regarding the product development and ensured that at the next meeting all of our suggestions were guaranteed.
Finally, Júlia was responsible for the design of the mobile app and it was through her that we handled the wireframes and the initial interviews with the students.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Throughout the event, we had over 1500 people and over 1200 downloads. These numbers were only possible thanks to the app developed by Codepoint.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Top grade. I have nothing negative to point out, quite the opposite. Since the beginning, the whole Codepoint team always had everything well defined as to what they had to do to achieve the final goal. As for us, They always have an enormous availability and readiness for any requirements and suggestions that we had.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Seen from the outside, the good, almost family-like atmosphere they have inside the company.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Nothing.
