I'm the Marketing Lead at Fastmail, a privacy-first email company for people looking for a better email experience. Fastmail hired Casey Stanton as our fractional CMO, to advise us on how to grow our company to reach more users.
For what projects/services did your company hire ?
We were looking to grow our outreach to reach more audiences and to set and reach marketing goals focused on moving our business forward. Casey provided a marketing strategy that considered the needs of our values-driven organization. He established our marketing KPIs and held us accountable for reaching our goals. He also provided professional development and support for our one-person marketing team.
How did you select this vendor?
Our COO met Casey at an event. He impressed us with a Half-Day Consultation that helped us define areas where we could improve. We found his proposal to be insightful and his rates reasonable so we brought this to our board and they approved.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
Casey and his team are providing ongoing strategic direction, help vetting new opportunities that come our way, advice on how to remove blockers to our work, and helpful resources and templates. He also established weekly KPIs and keep us on track in hitting those goals with bi-weekly marketing calls.
What was the team composition?
Casey helped grow our marketing team. It was initially only a Marketing Lead reporting to our COO. Casey suggested vendors for SEO and PR, identified our need for additional capacity, and found a way for our budget to cover the hire of an additional full-time marketing person.

Casey helped us grow our team, have a better understanding of our marketing and business data, and launch new marketing initiatives. Our marketing team is now working based on data-driven hypotheses and results. CMO Exponential supports us in making mission-critical decisions for the business and making sure we hit our quarterly outcomes.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We have bi-weekly sprint planning meetings and ongoing email correspondence. The CMO Exponential team set up a board for our work in Notion that tracks tasks and goals, which has been really helpful. We also work together on a KPI tracking worksheet that makes it clear how we're doing each week.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
CMO Exponential has been one of our most valuable expenditures. We love working with Casey and his team. By putting our growth goals first, Casey's added a lot of clarity to how we work just by helping us establish goals and put those goals first.
Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?

Before hiring Casey at CMOX, JEVS was losing cases due to insufficient staffing. We were also throwing our marketing dollars away on vendors that weren't providing accurate results.
