Best Rides Image

Best Rides

The aim of the app SafeRide/WalkSafe is to keep users safe during their trip from one destination to another. After entering the destination address the app counts the estimated time of arrival based on the current position and how a user is going to get there (via Uber, Lyft, taxi, driving or walking). If a user doesn’t notify the app about their safe arrival, people from the list of contacts get the warning messages about the

geolocation of the user and can call the police.

The app is well-received, and the client has been able to add a new, highly-marketable business line by tapping Citronium’s capacities. They’re willing to take on new challenges and solve them. Consistent communicators with strong follow-up, they’re open and transparent about issues and timelines.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

    BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm a director at 52 Launch LLC. We help entrepreneurs get their products to market with support to manufacturing, marketing, and development.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Citronium?

We had an entrepreneur who had developed a third-party safety app for Uber and Lyft. They used another company to build it and, when they came to us to market it, we quickly realized that the app didn't work and had lots of problems. We needed someone to both make the app functional and improve it with additional, marketable features.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Citronium rebuilt the app for iOS and Android. They refactored the app, moving it from an old iOS platform to the updated one. They fixed the Google API's and added the ability for a user to compare Uber and Lyft pricing in real time.  They added features for logging in via Facebook and Gmail which gave us the data we needed to enhance our marketing tactics. There’s a database that stores information including the driver photo and license plate that can be shared with selected contacts with one click. There’s also a panic button, which triggers emails and texts to be sent to those contacts, and the ability to call 911 through the app itself.

We launched the app a month ago but continue to make improvements. We're going to start rolling out new versions of it with new features.

    What is the team composition?

We work with a project manager.

How did you come to work with Citronium?

We found them through a friend who had used them and recommended them.

How much have you invested with them?

    We’ve spent close to $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in July 2018, and it’s ongoing.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've had strong download rates and people seem to like it. We're not an app company; we generally stick to consumer products. That we've developed this app and had success with it is a huge marketing benefit for us. A lot of our products are now shifting to IoT. Having the capacity to develop these interconnected products is a great selling point. Using Citronium, we can be confident that we can figure out these types of products.

How did Citronium perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate via Telegram, a text messaging app, and we Skype a few times a week. They’re very communicative. Often with a vendor, you have to constantly follow-up with them. In this case, they’re following up with me—which I appreciate.

They’re open and honest. With this type of development, there are a lot of unknowns and a lot of variables. You can do your best to mitigate them, but you can't mitigate everything. I appreciate that when he finds an issue, he tells me right away. They don’t try to skirt the issue. They just tell us what it will take to fix it and the timeline they need.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their willingness to attack things. They never say that they can't do something. They always figure it out. We know that things may not always work, but they’re willing to try, which is the best thing about them. It's a breath of fresh air.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While they’re willing to always figure out any challenge, it does take time to do so. I’m the middleman between them and the client, so delays complicate things for me. However, I don’t think it’s their issue in particular; it’s the nature of the business.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you maintain communication with them, you'll never be surprised. They’ll keep you informed. If you don't maintain communication, you won’t be informed, and you won’t make informed decisions.

The client submitted this review online.

    BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the co-founder and creative director at Lumen Innovation Limited. We’re an innovation consultancy that focuses on R&D, especially in medical and health tech. We utilize a user-centered process, working with medical experts around the world to explore solutions with new technology. This ranges from hardware and IoT devices to digital services.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Citronium?

We approached Citronium to create an iOS fitness app to help users improve their balance.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create an easy-to-follow fitness app that featured day-to-day programs, supplementary videos, and fitness tests to gather and visualize data.

    SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Rather than going with the cheapest option, we wanted to work with an agency that would give us the best product. The app’s UX and usability were of the utmost importance to target our audience. After searching for vendors around the world, we found Citronium online and chose them based on their portfolio of well-designed apps.

    Describe the project in detail.

They’re developing an iOS fitness app that’s based on Tai Chi and Qigong training. The goal is to improve the user’s balance over an eight-week period. By using the app, users can easily stick to the program and monitor their progress.

    What was the team composition?

We work with a project manager, a designer, a frontend developer, and a backend developer depending on the project needs.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project is still ongoing, so we don’t have any hard metrics as of yet. However, Citronium employs a professional team, and it’s a pleasure to work with them.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

As with all projects, it took some time to get to know each other, but our teams quickly developed a good synergy. They’ve followed a clear process throughout the process and offer creative solutions based on the project needs. Because they’ve assigned such dedicated project managers, we’re able to dive deep into the smaller details and get real user feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It’s great that their team works with us to troubleshoot issues. When necessary, they advise us on challenges and help come up with creative solutions.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There have been a few hiccups with timing.

Citronium leveraged a modest budget to produce an outstanding mobile app that both users and investors enjoy. Working rapidly within a tight turnaround expectation, they delivered a high caliber product. The team offered consistent availability and provided thorough documentation.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

    BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder of Wriggle. Our company addresses food waste and business sustainability.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Citronium?

We hired Citronium to help us develop our signature mobile app.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our hybrid mobile app is cross-platform, so it works on both iOS and Android. It hosts a digital marketplace to promote local cafes in Bristol, Brighton and Cardiff In the U.K. Restaurants can promote last-minute independent food and drink offers through our platform.

Citronium developed the initial version from scratch using Node.js. It’s built on a Mongo database and includes a Stripe payment integration. They completed the first, basic iteration within a two-month period.  Since then, they’ve continued to add new features for the past two years.

    What is the team composition?

The first lead developer we worked with was highly skilled. The second developer was mediocre, but Citronium replaced them with a better teammate. I especially enjoyed collaborating with three developers in particular.

How did you come to work with Citronium?

Our technical advisor guided us through the decision-making process for which team to hire. We interviewed five teams including several local freelancers. Citronium submitted a pitch through ODeck. Based on their competitive pricing and the quality of their work, we hired them for this project.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $50,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February 2014–May 2014.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Despite the constraints of a minimal budget, Citronium leveraged the available resources to produce exemplary results. As an outsourced team, they were especially skilled. They delivered within an impressively short timeline. Based on the quality of their work, we raised money from investors. We’ve received positive feedback about our app from both users and investors.

How did Citronium perform from a project management standpoint?

Regarding communication, I was happy overall with Citronium’s level of availability and documentation. The experience varied at different stages. It was especially effective in the beginning. Specific teammates improved as time went on.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I admired Citronium’s efficiency. They’re trustworthy, reliable, and quick.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice to future clients is to give Citronium specific specs. They work much better when they have clear expectations and a framework for exactly what to build. Using an ad-hoc method is less effective.

The application performs flawlessly and has helped the company land an exclusive contract with a major automotive company. Citronium responds quickly, keeps immaculate records, and makes it easy to contact developers. Their reliable accessibility is the backbone of the project.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

    BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the CEO of Mobisat, a Swiss telematics company. We produce telematic boxes, such as black boxes for vehicles.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Citronium?

    We needed development.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Citronium covers almost all our hardware and software production. They build applications for our clients, dealers, insurer companies, and dealerships. They are an original partner for us, and we work on an exclusive rights basis.

I have been very happy with Citronium because they are very ahead of the curve and always use the latest technologies. We’ve been exploring both native and cross-platform applications. We initially used Cordova PhoneGap and are now working with React Native.

Using the mobile application, our clients can access real-time services. They can see their vehicle position and usage, including, among many other things, how hard the pedal is pushed. Through the application, clients can also access a historical log of data and reports.

They did a crash dynamic report, which is a video reconstruction of a vehicle crash. During a crash, the device sends our server a lot of data. We get to see the crash dynamic in real time by assessing how the car was driving a few seconds before and after the crash. In a virtual video, we can gauge the impact force and see which part of the vehicle was impacted. It’s really effective.

We receive an enormous amount of data from the devices. Every day, one device sends 1,000 pieces of information to the server. Since we have tens of thousands of devices, we get a few million records daily. We and Citronium had the challenge of managing and processing all that data. A receiving software passes data through a real-time processing service. Once the data has been processed and sent to the external library, it is written into a database.

We are evaluating driving habits and speed limits. Our telematics devices know the driving speed, but they don’t know speed limits. By geocoding and researching street map databases, we can determine speed limit, road information, and traffic information. After all that data is processed, it is enriched and written into the database.

    What is the team composition?

I’m in touch with a project manager who takes care of all the tasks. Since we’ve created a few applications with them, we have had more than one project manager.

The team changes depending on the project. We usually have a project manager, a designer, a server person, and a platform specialist. They dedicate 6-10 people from their team to every project.

How did you come to work with Citronium?

We decided to try them out after a referral from another company that had experience working with them. We were very happy with the outcome and continued working with them.

How much have you invested in them?

We have invested between €50,000-€100,000 Euro per year ($61,737-$123,475 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in October 2014 and the work is ongoing.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We became the first and only telematics service provider for a major automotive in Italy. They wouldn’t work with anyone else. They can access know real-time vehicle and diagnosis issues. We give them the tools to completely automate activities like client recalls based on telematics data.

If a client has a problem with a vehicle, the automotive company notices it before the client and brings in the car for servicing before the client goes anywhere else.

We are working on our product ecosystem, which will hopefully be mandatory in every vehicle in the UAE. We are very close to finalizing the deal, which is based on the video crash report.

How did Citronium perform from a project management standpoint?

We have been very happy with project management. The project manager is always available on Skype whenever I have a need or idea. If we need to speak with the developer, they get them on the call right away. One of the great things about working with Citronium is that it is very easy to talk to developers.

They deal with tasks and activities very professionally. Everything is tracked in the software, so every issue has a transparent history. We can check what has been done and what is going to be done.

Server breakdown crises usually happen on the weekend. They have been available to help us solve those issues, which makes us quite happy.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their real-time availability has been very important since we deal with clients that demand real-time responses. Without their real-time responses, we wouldn’t be able to provide those services. We didn’t have that advantage when working with other software houses.

The quality of the application is impressive. We were charged fairly, and we’ve never had any issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The more detailed the project, the better the outcome. We gave Citronium a document with all the details. This approach was successful because they needed less time to understand our needs. We save time and money while getting exactly what we want.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

    BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a doctor in the UK and the founder of Dr. Julian, an application that expands accessibility to mental healthcare. After doing some research, I found that online therapy and video therapy have proven to be as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy. Dr. Julian connects people in need to qualified, vetted professionals 24 hours a day.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Citronium?

I hired Citronium to build the app from scratch.

    SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They initially built an iOS patient app and are now building a web application with a backend for admins. They integrated Twilio to support video chat/messaging and Stripe for payment services.

    What is the team composition?

I primarily liaise with a project manager, and there are one or two developers working on the project at any given time.

How did you come to work with Citronium?

A friend of mine had worked with them in the past and recommended them very highly. They seemed better than their competitors and I got along with the CEO quite well.

How much have you invested with them?

I’ve invested about $50,000 GBP so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2016, and the project is ongoing.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The iOS app received very positive user feedback after its launch. The layout is consistent with what I envisioned, and people that need help now have a resource that’s always available. We’ve also worked with English developers on other aspects of the project, and they’ve said that Citronium’s code is very well written.

How did Citronium perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well apart from some minor issues around communication. However, our project manager speaks English very well and has been fast to respond in addressing any issues that come up. We use Skype to communicate on a regular basis.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of their code is very impressive, and they offer great value for the cost. We’ve had no platform crashes and the app runs smoothly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

    No, nothing comes to mind.

    Advice for potential customers?

They have a very broad scope of expertise and can take on projects in almost any capacity.
