Application and Database Evaluation for California Energy Commission
In the Summer of 2019, Capitol Tech Solutions (CTS) was selected by the California Energy Commission (CEC) for database evaluation and assessment through their CMAS contract. The CEC is the state’s primary energy policy and planning agency and plays a pivotal role in moving the state toward a clean energy future.
Capitol Tech Solutions is working with the department to evaluate its Renewables Portfolio Standards (RPS) Online System. This is one of California’s key programs for advancing renewable energy as it provides procurement and reporting for the state’s load-serving entities. CEC verifies RPS claims after generation is procured from RPS-certified facilities.

Amazon API Integration for Ecommerce Business Automation Solution
Consumer Electronic Showroom (CEShowroom), a leader in online consumer electronic sales, had outgrown their existing application infrastructure, and needed to modernize their platform to allow for future business growth. Their existing Microsoft Access Database Solution posed an issue with size constraints which was hindering their ability to expand. They wanted to migrate from the Access platform to a .NET Cloud Based Solution that would offer the room to expand their technology and incorporate their product database with the Amazon API Gateway. Making these changes would provide CEShowroom the ability to streamline their business processes by increasing the automation options available to them by integrating Amazon API documentation.

Student Information System Integration Software Development Project
Identimetics, a leader in biometric technology, had a great solution for school districts, but struggled integrating their data with PowerSchool SIS in a seamless fashion. Initially, they have the services team at PowerSchool build them a custom UI page to read in the ID from the scanner. But this solution required a computer at every finger scanner, and did not allow for their USB based finger scanners. Moreover, it required districts to change their attendance setup to meet the requirements of their technology, not the other way around as it should have been. Thus, identiMetrics was not able to fully utilize all their tools to serve their customers, and struggled growing this new service.
Our Student Information System (SIS) experts met with identiMetrics, understood their technical challenges, and reviewed a demo of the product in its current state. With the current setup requiring a computer at each scanner, they were not able to grow to scan fingers in every classroom like they desires, and it challenged our PowerSchool SIS experts to develop a solution to support their growth.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of a haircutting shop. We’re a new concept that combines a barbershop and a salon to provide a musical experience. When you step into our salon, it feels like a small music venue.
We offer three separate experiences in different rooms, and everybody shares the same music using a new technology that we’ve integrated into the chairs. Customers can feel the bass, middle, and treble of each song.
What challenge were you trying to address with Capitol Tech Solutions?
We wanted to create an interactive communication route with clients and give clients the opportunity to have personalized music experiences.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Capitol Tech Solutions has helped us build the WordPress site and create our vision from the ground up. They’re a real partner from the creative side. The team brings a lot of ideas to the table.
Initially, we had several meetings before the process. We’ve test-driven various platforms through social media sites and Google and done a great deal of API work. We’re using Booker and MINDBODY to customize the interaction.
Additionally, we just finished filming a three-and-a-half-minute commercial, which will go live in about four weeks. From there, we’ll get 30-second and 60-second condensed spots.
What is the team composition?
We have one point of contact for social media marketing, and we primarily work with another person from a content and site management perspective. Kevin (Digital Marketing Specialist) is responsible for our marketing and Marik (Customer Success Specialist) is the project manager. He’s an exceptional asset, and we feel like he’s an actual member of our team.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve probably spent around $25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began our partnership with them in 2018, and we’re continually working on modifying and enhancing our engagement.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We started the business during COVID-19 and had to shut down and reopen three times. We’re finally fortifying the building blocks of growth under our feet. It’s been more challenging than we’d ever imagined, but we hit the break-even point about three months ago.
Overall, site activity has soared, and we have a significant number of retentions. We’re very pleased with the results so far and are starting to see the business grow exponentially.
How did Capitol Tech Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve been extremely conscientious about doing exactly what they were contracted to do. I can’t think of one important benchmark that hasn’t been met. They’re just great at projecting, which is rare in the amorphous world of tech.
It’s just like building a home — you realize halfway through that you want another 50 things, so the cost goes up. However, Capitol Tech Solutions keeps the horizon clear in front of us. We’ve been able to navigate all the changes without surprises, and the deliverables are precisely what we anticipated. It’s probably the best outcome we could’ve forecasted.
We communicate through email, Zoom, Google Meet, and text. It’s a very personalized experience. Marik does a phenomenal job. He continually advocates for timelines and is in constant communication. Overall, they’ve been collaborative partners during the whole process.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their execution and timeliness are far above average. Capitol Tech Solutions are exceptional at laying out the goals, establishing the goal line, and moving methodically to get there.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. In hindsight, we set up to create something that didn’t exist before, so we didn’t have a clear understanding of how we’d get there. We’ve had many conversations with their team, and they’ve done a fantastic job at staying in course.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
You’re in good hands when you work with the entire team. Everyone has a clear understanding of how to create a roadmap, set projections, and forecast benchmarks. We’ve been pleased with the entire process and team.

I’m the marketing director for Shimoda Law Corp., which is a law firm.
What challenge were you trying to address with Capitol Tech Solutions?
We wanted to bring in more calls and clients, so we needed help with our ad campaigns.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Capitol Tech helps us manage our PPC campaigns on Google Ads. They also work on our site’s SEO. For the ads, they conducted keyword research, which they present to us for approval. Then, once we set a budget, they go ahead and put out the ads.
What is the team composition?
We mainly work with Marik (Customer Success Specialist), who acts as our account manager, and Kevin (Digital Marketing Specialist), who conducts the research and manages the ads.

Capitol Tech’s ads are definitely working. Thanks to their efforts, we’ve received a massive increase in calls. There’s also been an increase in the number of our site’s unique visitors and form submissions, which we’ve tracked to our ad campaigns. Overall, we’re happy with their work — they’ve proven to be a highly beneficial partner to us.
How did Capitol Tech Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
Capitol Tech is excellent at communicating, and they’re always available. To interface, we use emails and phone calls. Each month, we have check-ins through Microsoft Teams, where they give us detailed updates through a PowerPoint presentation. As a result, we’re always aware of the performance of our ads and how many calls, clicks, and form submissions we’ve received.
[What did you find most impressive about them?
We like the way they work. They’re a relatively small company, but they’ve done an even better job than the bigger vendor we used to work with. Capitol Tech is also much more involved in the process. Furthermore, they’re a friendly team that’s very good at their job.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything they could do better. Capitol Tech is a fantastic team — we’ve never encountered any issues with the project.

Make sure you know what you want them to deliver. Additionally, give the team all the information they need to produce accurate, high-quality ads.

I’m the director of technology solutions at an IT consultancy.
What challenge were you trying to address with Capitol Tech Solutions?
We had a school district client that needed a student information system. We needed help implementing a new PowerSchool student management system for our client.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They handled all of the rollout, setup, data migration, configuration, custom reporting, and custom development. There were pieces of system functionality that were home-grown and served as a frontend UI.
What is the team composition?
We worked with two senior developers.
How did you come to work with Capitol Tech Solutions?
We were looking for companies that had the breadth of knowledge to help us with the implementation. It was also paramount to have a partner that was familiar with the Texas education system’s procedures, especially around funding. We had a few colleagues and clients that had worked with Capitol Tech and they were able to provide good feedback.

We spent $1.5 million–$2 million.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in September 2019, and our work wrapped up in December 2020.

We had well over 100 customizations we needed to deliver by certain dates. Capitol Tech easily contributed 40%–45%. They successfully configured, set up, designed, and QA’d each one.
How did Capitol Tech Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
I was the program manager for the entire project. We held a more scrum agile approach. Capitol Tech’s development lead did a great job managing code review from start to finish. We also used project management tools and had several levels of review to make sure everything stayed within our standards.
What did you find most impressive about them?
One of their strengths was the knowledge of the product. They really helped to train our staff on some of the behind-the-scenes development efforts and plugins. They were very instrumental and valuable.
They’re a great group of people to work with. They roll up their sleeves and get into the work. They do a great job of understanding what’s expected within the scope of delivery and development. They also understand end-users and business requests, too. The team was able to give us suggestions based on their experience with other school districts.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they were very honest and open. Usually, they were spot on with how long it would take them to deliver something. They were always very available.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
My advice is to be clear and concise about what your scope of work is and what you want Capitol Tech to deliver. Firm documents are important for any project. Give them the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions.

We have been searching for a volunteer to do this for years. Capitol Tech Solutions offered to give so that we can continue to serve. They went WAY above and beyond anyone that we have ever hired in the past!

We had a kick-off meeting to discuss our needs. From there they came up with a beautiful design that they then presented to us. They listened carefully to the needs of our organization and created a user-friendly website for children to apply for their dream bedroom and also a place where the community would want to sign up to volunteer or donate

There was a whole team but I spoke mostly with the project manager. The initial person I spoke with was Robert Haney in Sales. He listened to our needs and went way above and beyond to get Sweet Dreams Foundation and a gorgeous new website.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Everyone is loving our new site and we are excited for this next year of growth!

We had a few zoom meetings along with email communication which was perfect! They listened to our needs thoroughly which was nice to have a team that truly listened vs needing to continuously repeat our needs. Everything was done very fast and we couldn't be more appreciative.

They listened to our needs and implemented those needs into the site. We didn't need to do revisions because they listened well from the very beginning to the heart of our organization.

Capitol Tech Solutions begin by assisting with the rebuild of the website for our clubs largest fundraiser the Sac Century Challenge. They executed this in a professional, timely manner and the website was a hit! Soon after they took on our social media and moved from their to the full Rotary website.

Initially their pricing and services met our needs. They donated a few services to start and so we were able to see the level of service they would provide.

They took our previous Sac Century website through Wordpress and completely rebuilt it from scratch. They provided a technician who created an outline that was easy to understand. Then provide regular suggestions on updates. On a weekly basis they provide a social media schedule for approval.
